Resistance 2 DLC and Patch 1.50 Available for Download on March 26

Game on! Tomorrow (March 26) we’ll be bringing you a host of downloadable content for Resistance 2, plus another patch that helps improve the online experience even further (and includes several requests that came from…well, you!). So let’s get right down to it, shall we?

The DLC comes in two forms: new competitive multiplayer maps and character skins. The Aftermath Map Pack features three new battlefields, two set in Twin Falls (Aftermath and Pit Stop) and another in Orick (Outpost). All of the maps support 20-player Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch, while Outpost also lets you play 20-player Core Control. The Aftermath Map Pack will be available for download through the PlayStation Store for $5.99.

We also have six new competitive multiplayer character skins. In addition to our usual band of brothers (of the human, Cloven, and Chimeran variety), we even have two selections for our female R2 players. You can download the following skins through the PlayStation Store for $0.99 each: Rachael Parker, Female Soldier, Ravager, Cloven (Retribution model), Ranger Variation, and Black Ops Variation.

Then we have patch 1.50, or what some on the MyResistance.net forums have been calling the “the big patch.” And it definitely lives up to that nickname—it’s quite substantial. Once you install the patch (the download prompt will come up automatically once you start R2), you’ll now be treated to:

Meltdown Mode: We’ve read the message-board comments. We’ve seen the online petition. You want it? You got it! Patch 1.50 brings back Meltdown, the popular Resistance: Fall of Man multiplayer mode in which each team attempts to gain control of the map by capturing beacons.

Superhuman Co-op Mode: Does your eight-man Specter squad possess the skills to survive this all-new difficulty? It features stronger enemies and disables auto-respawning (only another squadmate can revive you), but dishes out bigger rewards (double the Grey Tech and XP per round).

Second PSN Login Support: Your fellow couch potato can now save their character’s multiplayer progress, thanks to the added option to log in with two unique PSN accounts.

But that’s really just the beginning of patch 1.50’s offerings:

  • XP balance adjustments for competitive mode
  • Announcements screen

  • Just because now you can use multiple PSN accounts does not mean there will be a new firmware update.

You can have multiple accounts in Little Big Planet also.

  • If this update doesn’t require firmware, then i am led to believe many important things for the PS3 are not unified.

  • cool beans! love the new cloven look

  • LOL at all these people complaining about not knowing about Firmware update…

Sony really can’t win, if they rush it, problems like 2.40 occur and people complain.

If they take their time to ensure it’s right, then people still complain…

Remember folks, the PS3 is the hi-tech console that DID not rush it’s release, and as a consequence it’s feature complete and reliable. Perhaps people need to remember that, when complaining about Sony and complementing their competitors.

  • SWEET!! im so GETTING THIS and R2 is tight, ilike it ALOT keep up the support IG your fans appreciate all you support :D

  • @51

LBP doesn’t use multiple PSN sign ins, it uses the local user accounts on PS3.

  • that’s awesome I had the game but traded it in for killzone2 and I can’t wait for the DLC for that!

  • Nice!!!… and I love that I can now play as Rachel!!!
… do the skins apply to co-op as well as competitive??

  • Holy crap. These updates just might get me playing R2 again.

  • Good stuff!

  • An already impressive game just got better :-) THX.

  • I need more fighting games…but for the meantime i’m being driven into insanity by kz2, ut3, n r2 n that’s a good thing

  • Insomniac stated that the ability to use multi psn logins was on the firmware update after r2 was released and this is why it is barely being patched into the game. So by that info, you won’t need a new ps3 update.

  • 2.70 confirmed for tomorrow?

  • As far as I know multiple psn login is already possible on Little Big Planet. My wife and I have both logged in at the same time, so I’m pretty sure this means no guarantee of 2.70 hitting tomorrow sorry.

  • So I guess FW 2.70 IS coming…

Also, thanks for the map pack and whatnot, but let’s get some more co-op missions. I’d be chomping at the bit to give you my money for some more of those!

  • When will Resistance 2 gain PlayStation HOME game launching capabilities? Where is the Resistance 2 Game Space? Bring on more HOME integration please!!

  • hmm i might need to buy this game again…

  • @55

This update is for local user accounts also…so basically its the same thing.

  • @ 50 that is not 2 PSN logins on 1 system that is local, doesn’t show the second person online or track both of their stats only player 1

  • Thanks for the update guys… now my wife will play resistance with me again…..
She was so pissed that she couldnt keep her stats….

  • To let everyone know, Firmware 2.7 MIGHT not enable multiple sign-ins, it MIGHT actually come from a recent development kit update.

Anyway, I’m very excited about this update. R2 is definitely the best FPS on PS3, so I can’t wait for this patch. I still hope to see more co-op stages and higher levels sometime.

  • One question…
I already have the preconditions for some of the medals.
That means they will be added to my profile when I download the update? Because you can only max your level once…

  • Awesome! Thanks Insomniac!

  • And no NEW!!!! coop maps, lol, what a EPIC FAIL!!!.

But well, for now is OK, just for now, BAD move IG, bad move.

  • To all you people saying multiple logins are already in LBP, listen:

In LBP you can log in multiple USERS locally on the PS3.

In R2, they are making it so you can log in two PSN ACCOUNTS online at the same time.

That is not even close to the same thing, and it has already been documented that the latter is not currently possible on the PS3. A R2 developer said yesterday the only reason R2 didn’t ship with that feature in the first place is because it required a firmware update from Sony.

So yes, FW 2.70 IS needed for this patch.

    • Right… but the required update from Sony WAS NOT 2.7, and we\’ve already had it as we\’ve been testing it — as many others in this thread have said.

  • nice, i might just play this game again…

  • I cannot believe you guys listened about meltdown! my dad and I have had to go back to R1 for that :O awesome awesome awesome!

  • Looking forward to this. Thanks!

  • This is great!

  • Now all thats left (in terms of splitscreen) is to get rid of those annoying black bars and it’ll be perfect.

  • this is great news! but honestly R2 disappointed me a little, i dont know it didnt feel like the first one which i really loved.
With killzone and RE5 that keeps me busy ill look forward to resistance 3 :) hoping it will surprise me like the first one did

  • Bryan, are we required to update our PS3s to FW 2.7 if this 1.5 patch is coming with PSN multiple login support?

  • custom-soundtrack would have been nice.. i’d buy R2 again if you add that

superhuman co-op sounds awesome.. trading in R2 is one of my biggest mistakes in life :(

  • mmmmm Hallo? I don´t understand why nobody tells anything about 2.7 when everybody asking… Even when the are still posting some news like new space at Home.
We are getting psycho with this update and the rumored news, so please, the surprise doesn´t matter, just tell us if it´s gonna be out tonight or early tomorrow, and that´s it.

  • excellent update. but im a coop guy we need more maps and scenerios too but im still excited!!!!! i love this game

  • Firmware 2.70 please tomorrow

  • @4

it’s the same concept as what sony did with 2.40.

they put in trophy support, while developers had to patch it in their games.

I highly doubt that we’ll see fw 2.70 this week. if so, it will be tonight, because all fw updates have been on tuesday or wednesday.

Also, if this fw has double sign in, don’t you think that a video would be necessary to show how to do multiple sign in’s?

    Anyhow…..

    here’s to hoping….

  • there is a high possibility that the firmware 2.7 will be released tomorrow, but i doubt that the in-game chatting and the other rumored features will not be coming with 2.7

  • That’s what I’m talking about Insom! Hopefully this firmware update will come to allow dual log-in in time.

I have to say that after getting platinum in R2 I stopped for a bit to play SFIV, KZ2, and Burnout…but it appears forces beyond my control are bringing me back to R2 yet again.

  • sorry typo, heres wut i meants 2 say…

there is a high possibility that the firmware 2.7 will be released tomorrow, but i doubt that the in-game chatting and the other rumored features will be coming with 2.7

  • I wish they would release more info on 2.7 or whatever its gonna be called. I will definitely be playing this game again. I have been playing kz2 heavily since its release. You guys are crazy for that 10,000 kill trophy man i would have had plat if it wasn’t for that lol

  • James, you can’t give us anymore insight on FW 2.70? so you guys have been testing 2.70?

  • any news about resistance 2, resistance fall of man game launching for home and a home space that would would be cool

  • 2.70 IS NOT tomorrow.

  • Thanks for the update…
R2 is very enjoyable, but needed this. Many things needed repair. Not everything is corrected here, however; it’s a step in the right direction. Excellent!

I must say I’m excited for this update and any PS3 firmware additions that may follow.
So many things require attention on the PS3; perhaps this is when my most desired features are included, maximizing my enjoyment potential.

  • is it possible if you show us a video of the update in action?

  • Thanks for the update James (=

  • Something totally different. When can we expect the announcement from the new Ratchet?

    It’s almost April now…

  • is there going to be notification of received medals?

are all ribbons going to show up when received? sometimes you hear the sound, but it doesn’t tell you what you got.
