Secret Agent Clank Coming to PS2

Hi there, My name is Glen Egan, I am the President of Sanzaru Games, a San Mateo, CA based independent video-game studio. We are just putting the finishing touches on Secret Agent Clank for the PlayStation 2. The debonair spy will be bringing his unique brand of Clank-fu to the PlayStation 2 on May 26, 2009 and I just wanted to use this brief post to tell everyone a little bit about our studio and the game.

Seven of us started Sanzaru Games in January 2007 with a mission to bring together a group of talented individuals to share a common vision to develop fun to play, visually stunning and technically spectacular console games. Over the last couple of years the team has grown to nearly 30 and will continue to expand as more talented and experienced developers are drawn to the studio. The name Sanzaru refers to the famous 3 wise monkeys – the founding philosophy for Sanzaru Games is that great games are a function of good design, beautiful, clear visuals and a strong technology base to deliver these. Should any one of these three pillars be missing then the game will suffer.

We are all huge fans of the Ratchet and Clank series of games and when Sony talked to us about helping bring Secret Agent Clank to the PlayStation 2 we jumped at the opportunity. Insomniac has created one of the most awesome and enduring console game experiences ever and it has been an honor to help add to the series!

High Impact Games put together an awesome game and we wanted to make sure that all the great gameplay moments from Secret Agent Clank were preserved from the original PSP title. We have therefore focused a great deal of our time and energy on rebuilding all the levels, characters and effects to take advantage of the additional power of the PlayStation 2. Here are a few screenshots to give you an idea of the visual changes.

Also given the different controller we wanted to bring back the lock-strafe camera mode seen in previous games, since a lot of us have enjoyed using it to great effect to blow stuff up over the years! We hope you all have as much fun playing the game as we have had making it, and we look forward to working with Sony to bring you more action, adventure and blowing-stuff-up good times in the future!

Cheers,

Glen

  • Glad to see my decision to not get the PSP version was well warranted. Equally glad I have a PS3 with Backward Compatibility to play this on since I don’t own a PS2 anymore.

  • I will admit to having taken advantage of the PSP -> PS2 ports in Twisted Metal: Head On. But my life would be easier if I could just get these via PSN. I would still pay the $19.99.

But I understand the need to keep the PS2 fed. So, maybe these could be done in both versions. You know give the PSN port an HD polish.

Either way, I am not opposed to porting PSP games to the home consoles. It happens a year later, when the PSP version is probably not selling as much anymore.

  • LOL, how do we allways get PSP port to PS2 and never PS2 port to PSP? Even though PSP is going to out live the PS2 and even sony say’s so. And with all of wonderful games on PS3 I’m to busy for PS2…

  • wordflipper.com if someone didnt answer ya yet jeff

  • Why does Sony continue to undermine the PSP by releasing games on the PS2? It doesn’t make any sense and just makes the PSP look bad…..

  • Another PSP game goes…
    Another PSP game goes…
Another PSP game goes to the PS2.

    Please stop these…
Please stop these ports right now…

Seriously, they’re killing the reason to have a PSP/PS3.

What’s next? LittleBigPlanet portable being ported to the PS2 because people own more PS2’s than the PS3 and PSP combined?

There was a reason Secret Agent Clank was made for the PSP in mind.

Mind boggles at PSP to PS2 ports. Why buy the PSP version in the first place if a PS2 port with fixes/more stuff is just going to happen anyway?

Good for you guys, I guess. Count me out though.

  • why ps2 if u still gotta 2 thats ur own fault stop being cheap

  • I dont know. I personnaly didnt like Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, that other port, on the PS2. I really hope this is beeter. It certainly looks much better!!!

  • Hi there,
Thanks for the post, answers below:
Q1) No, the audio mix will be for TV viewing.
Q2) We are rendering at 480i.
    Q3) Yes
    Q4) No
    Cheers,
    Glen

No thanks then,It is the new age guys,I know you guys maybe new or whatever,If you can’t get at least progressive output for this,I will have to pass,Its quite disappointing,Theres so many PS2 games that came out quite a few years ago that support 480p and even some that do 1080i,Times have changed guys,This is the HD era,Many people now have HDTV’s or at least an Edtv that can handle 480p,I play everything on a 1080p TV and I have tried playing games in 480i,And its just too unbarable,480p I can deal with.So I hope you guys recnsider rendering in 480p,I loved the PSP version of this,And I own Every Ratchet and clank there is,I own both the PSP and PS2 version of Size matters,And judging how that port ending up as compared to the PSP version was a real let down,Hope you do better job than High Impact games and I wish yall luck with it,But again,Without out at least Progressive rendering,I will not buy this!

  • let me also add..Like others have said,It would alot better to just do a PSN release and add trophies to this,I am a huge Trophy nut and would love for a Ratchet and clank game to have some trophies(Can’t wait for the REAL Ratchet and clank this year from Insomniac!..Git er done Insomniac!! Yall rock!)So ..

Make a PSN release,Make it at least 480p,And add trophies,And it will sell like hotcakes!!

  • how come you guys didn’t make it on the ps3

  • Secret agent clank I thought was for the psp exclusively first they take nintendo ds classics for psp now they are taking the psp games for the ps2
