Hi, everyone, we have a system software updates for PS3 coming soon, and I wanted to provide you with a sneak peak at the details.
The PS3 firmware update (v2.60) is designed primarily to enhance the system’s media capabilities. The key feature is a new Photo Gallery application, which delivers a suite of tools for sorting through and displaying your digital photo collection. Digital pictures can be organized in groups according to various criteria, including the camera used to take the photos, the event date and time, colors in the photos, as well as the number, ages, or facial expressions of the people pictured. You can also create slideshows set to music and build photo playlists with an easy-to-use interface. The Photo Gallery application will need to be installed separately from the XMB after you update your PS3’s firmware. To install the Photo Gallery application, go to the Photo section on the XMB, select Photo Gallery and press the X button.
The 2.60 update also includes:
- Guest access to PlayStation Store – This enables non-PlayStation Network members to browse through the storefront to check out the latest games, demos, videos, etc.
- DivX 3.11 support – Videos in this format can now be played on PS3.

I can’t seem to log in with my computer. I’m using a Mac. But I am able to log in through my cell phone.
When I try to log in I get this message.

Seems kinda cool. Goes hand in hand with that in-game screenshot function you guys added recently. Even though not many games have that feature. Lol.
Did you guys forget that this is a games machine? This is what was worked on after flash 9? Your next goals should be custom soundtracks for all ps3 games past a certain date or fall all ps3 games period, cross-game voice chat, cross-game invites, a party system, and simultaneous editing of album info for many pieces of data. ☻
hey eric got a question to shoot out at ya, is there going be in-game cross voice chat inputed? i know that 2.6 just came out soon enough but it the firmwire in the works for that thanks
Hey does anybody know if divx can play AVI formats?
Please add the ability to log onto 2 PSN ID’s at the same time, My roommate and I like being able to games like resistance 2 together online, but it also sucks because only one of us can be earning XP or trophies at once. please, please fix

C’mon guys. Wheres the party chat or private chat? Invites to games, updated avatars, etc. Ya know, features on the 360 that makes Xbox Live light years ahead of you guys. I mean, I was on COD4 the other day and I couldn’t even look at a guys PSN tag to see trophies an that. Put some effort in at least. When am I gonna use this photo feature? Very occasionally, its a good feature but not a good one when I wanna play games first and foremost.

AVI is a container and Divx is a codec.
AVI’s can contain Divx encoded video or a combination of audio and video encoded with different codecs.
Divx doesn’t “play” anything.
Migration not so smooth – I should be logged in as “Twitch_City” (PSN account) but instead it still says silentmatt (blog account)

Still waiting for the day that we’ll be able to capture screen shots just by opening an option with the PS button. :( This is my most wanted feature on PSN and then everything else could just go to hell. PLEASE!
Hey, can we get a chime for incoming mail and when friends sign on? Maybe in the next update? My eyes aren’t always looking at the T.V. when the PS3 is on. You see my desktop sits next to the T.V. and when I’m reading something on the computer, I may miss friends messages. It becomes annoying to find out that I have 20 unread messages I don’t know about.

Works in games like Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet. It will never be like the way 360 is though. Which i can understand.
Playing with a friend split screen would be cool though.. both getting trophies.
Just testing out the new ID.
I echo these requests
1) Full DiVX 7 Codec support (MKV container – this can legitamately be asked for now that it is part of the DiVX 7 spec)
2) Just the addition of DTS bitstream output on HDMI from MKV or m2ts streams would keep me happy.
Regarding the photo slideshow playback, which I use my PS3 for a lot, I would like the ability to overlay photo title data from either Exif or IPTC data. Currently I use a third party watermark application to burn these titles into the photo’s I use for slide show. It would be nice if I didn’t have to generate a second copy of photo’s with this applied.
More graphic options when playing back music would be nice, including things like displaying lyrics, with larger cover art etc would be nice.
Lastly, the experience with BBC iPlayer is still not good / fully sorted. It seems like there is a lack of hardware acceleration on the flash video playback so it appears jerky. this will be an excellent device for iPlayer in the lounge with this corrected. Best Regards
Im looking foward to this but I think they need to focus on the gaming aspect of the ps3 now and add some new things to make everything gaming that much smoother. Etc In game Video chat would just be killer!!!

what about fixing the ‘no trophy earned’ problem?
I also feel that sony should concentrate on adding the most requested features, DivX helps, but this photo thing and being able to see the PS store without an ID? I feel sony should start listening more to the features people want instead of focusing on the features they think we want. Really a photo app over everything else, I don’t get it. PRIORITIES

That’s odd it still shows me as C-h-a-o-s but it has my PSN avatar. I hope it never shows my PSN id and I stay as it is.
Divx 3.1, great, the more codecs being able to play natively the better, the less transcoding PS3 Media server has to do.
As a non-native-english speaking person who owns a beamer, I would really like to be able to move subtitles, a lot of movies have the subtitles partially in the black bars, and I want to be able to move the subtitles up into the active screen.. the only way to get good subs on those movies now, is to rip the dvd to the pc and use a program called dvdsubedit to move the subs up..
Also it would be nice if the PS3 DNLA would support subtitles in streams..

This is so awesome. I’ve spent a lot of time separating hundreds of photos on my PS3 using the Album option but this is gonna make everything a lot easier now. I hope the transition is easy and not a time lengthy as the albums are.
Neat feature, maybe for the next firmware update, can you add a little icon indicator to tell those who use a wireless connection their signal strength while in-game/online. It would be very useful! Also, more visualizations for Music playback :)

photo application sounds pretty cool. i’ve been meaning to get a new hd to take advantage of all the media capabilities..as my 80 gb is getting filled up pretty fast.

Also, need an update that allows PSP games on the PS3 via USB mode. The wired option sucks! Let us hook the PSP up to the PS3, upscale the picture to our 1080p displays, and sit on the couch with our Dualshock. You know you want it too, so make it happen guys.

I love the ps3 it is my console of choice and here is all that you need so that their is no more debate about which console is better.
-party invites to the xmb to straight ingame without using home.
-voice messages
-I would love to compare my trophies with my friends on this website.
-i also want every demo to install by itself in the background after I download it.
-Please find a way to make the trophies card load better cause they are too slow.
-Also What is with the trophy sincing all the time? I would like my trophy to be sinced automatically in the background as I unlock it.
Well thats all I can think about at this moment but other than that keep up the good work. I hope you can take my critiscisms to heart and answer my needs with future updates. Thank you…
