Life in LittleBigPlanet: Episode 2 (Plus Some Beta Keys for You)

1,936 8

FINAL UPDATE: Everyone who’s going to receive a beta key from us should have already received it. I’ve noticed a lot of, um, pointing out that “I sent mine in before [that guy] and I didn’t get one and he did.” The way we did it is – we gave keys out in the order they showed up in our inbox. With the amount of emails we received, it’s entirely likely that they didn’t arrive in the order that they were sent. Of course, we’d have no way of knowing that… so goes the interwebz.

UPDATE #2: The beta keys are sending out now, so check your inboxes (and spam filters). All should be reach their destinations within about 2 hours (it’s 4.23pm Pacific right now). Good luck!

UPDATE: You can stop sending emails now, we’ve gotten more than enough. We’re processing them now and we’ll update right here again once we’ve begun sending out beta keys. Thanks for the awesome response!!!

Our first dive into the world of LittleBigPlanet taught us all about the SackBoy, now it’s time for another visit! The second episode in this series takes us deeper into the wonders of LBP. This time we answer the question- “How do SackBoys Play?” You’ll soon find out, alone or in a pack, these little guys know how to have a good time.

Oh, and a few days ago, we stirred up a bit of a frenzy by handing out the remaining 50 beta keys we had left over from our Orlando Meet-up. Some of you thought that, as the official PlayStation blog, we should have a bit more than 50 to give away. Well, we here at the PSB don’t like having our Bloghood called into question. So, as of the time of this writing, I’m sitting on a monstrous stack of burlap-covered LittleBigPlanet beta keys, and they’re there for the asking. So ask away, send an email to [address removed, all codes have been sent] and we’ll get them out to you.

Now we’ve got *a lot* of beta keys to give away, and I’d hate for you to develop repetitive-stress disorder from whacking your F5 button to refresh your inbox, so expect it to be a few hours before the codes are sent. We’ll update this post when we have it lined up and start pressing the “send” button.

If you receive a code, this paragraph becomes relevant to you:

    1. Public Beta Ends October 11th, 2008
    2. You must use a consumer PLAYSTATION 3 system that is connected to the internet.
    3. You must have a PLAYSTATION Network Account.
    4. If you have previously redeemed a LBP voucher code, you must delete any old LBP data (along with save data and game data) and download this version (go to Download History and redownload the new code).
    5. This version does not require a DNS redirect and levels created here will be available for consumers at launch of the full title.
    6. Please refrain from creating anything inappropriate, as we do have moderation in place and it may result in your account being suspended or banned.

Downloading the LittleBigPlanet Public Beta.
After you have signed in with your PLAYSTATION Network Account, select [Account Management] on the XMB interface located under the ‘PLAYSTATION Network’ tab, then select [Transaction Management] and click on the option ‘Redeem PLAYSTATION Network Card or Promotion Code’. Enter the following unique code to start the download of LittleBigPlanet.

And once you get in, you can start getting creative. What’s that, you’re looking for inspiration? Have a look at Wired’s Top 10 User-Created LittleBigPlanet Adventures.

  • Here’s my pathetic plea at asking for anyone’s extra code.

    Please?

I love you all. Happy Friday.

  • Wow this sucks ass, for the record an hour difference doesn’t just happen because of the interwebz.

Man i use to be such a big supporter or Sony, but it’s been disappointment after disappointment, i mean it’s not like i’m going to sell my PS3 for a 360 or anything, but for the next generation consoles, i think I’ll remember which company screwed me over the most. And so far Sony is far in the lead in that department.

Oh well, that’s what happens when you believe that a company could actually care about it’s supporters.

  • You’d have no way of knowing that eh? It’s common sense that the most recent emails you get show up first thus the ones received first would be below the ones sent in later, so much for common sense in society though….

  • I think I spent 30 minutes just waving my Sackboys arms around and nooding his head. This is the coolest game ever and I haven’t even built anything yet. I am going to go hardcore into the building today. I hope to have my Haunted house level finished by the end of the day. Thanks again Jeff!

  • Wow THANK YOU Very much for the key. My kids as well as me an the wife will love the beta as well as the game. Thanks!!!

  • It really is funny how pissed people are getting because of this. This was a giveaway and most of you are acting like you were owed this from Sony.

The response for this game has been anything but “little”. (see what I did there) I can imagine that going through those emails yesterday wasn’t an easy task. So thanks for at least trying to get some keys out to more people.

I didn’t get a key either but it isn’t changing my view of Sony or of this game. I am still twitching with excitement while I patiently wait for Oct. 21st.

LittleBigPlanet + Sackboy = Game Of The Year

  • Yikes people. 1600 posts and counting.

I was expecting to see a lot of stuff about how people liked the game on the last page but all I see are people getting upset they didn’t get in. It’s now October 3rd. The beta goes til the 11th. The game drops the 21st. Lets put this all together. You will be in the beta for a week, at which point you will then not be able to play the game for another week, and then the FULL game will come out. Isn’t worth just waiting the two a half weeks instead of whining and saying Sony is a disappointment when really it’s not Sony directly who is disappointing you. “Oh, I didn’t get a beta key! LIFE IS SO UNFAIR!” Boo hoo. Sony (and of course Mm) are delivering you one of the biggest games of the year (if not THE biggest) and all you can say is how much of a disappointment Sony is cause you didn’t get to play the beta for a week. Yeesh.

I hope you at least get enough candy at Halloween. Would hate for your month to be ruined.

  • @amante, f u

  • @1612

    f u? Like Fu Manchu? or Fu(Foo)Fighters?

I didn’t get a beta key either if that’s you might be thinking. In fact, I didn’t even check the blog when they were being given out so it came as a surprise today to see keys all went bye bye. Yet am I flailing on the ground, screaming, and crapping my pants in anger? Not the last time I checked.

Oh, and I get the f u thing. And no thanks. I don’t believe in internet romances.

  • Boo hoo, I didn’t get one.

Still can’t understand how people who sent their email at 1:20something got to the inbox before mine @12:47-:48.

Oh well, I’ll get over it one day.

  • @1611 amante.

    I agree with you.

This is like a lottery; some people win, some don’t.

As you stated the beta is only till the 11th and the game is out the 21st.

All this is free and Sony has provided many with beta codes.

If we win, great, if not, it should not be brought out against Sony.

They have done their best in providing this to us and since it is beta, not everyone can be included.

I’ve seen many people get into beta and then come post on the blog how bad the beta was.

Well…guess what…that’s why you’re in the beta…to find all the bugs if possible, before it goes live.

I know I’ve done much testing in the job I am currently in and my manager would NOT hire people that just complain and whine constantly.

They want people with open minds and ability to test and show what is still wrong with the application.

Just my 2 cents worth…you don’t have to listen, but lately I’m seeing so much negative responses.

Sony has stepped up to the plate with many new games and is listening to us and trying to please us.

They won’t please everyone, but most of us I think are very please.

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK SONY…I for one support you fully.

  • @1615 GGCAN

YAAAAAY! An adult on the blog! (Not saying there aren’t others, but sometimes it seems that way)

I agree with you completely. I’m a QE so testing is sort of what I do on a day to day basis. You could say I’m a professional tester? Anyway, people seem to miss the point that you’re in a BETA release. Granted it isn’t an Alpha release but it’s purpose is to weed out the remaining bugs, if any, before it goes live. Granted those who get in are being given a treat, but you’re also guinea pigs.

When I think about it, I would much rather play the full game and be surprised by everything in it with as little bugs as possible rather than come back to something that has been fixed and start all over again.

I’m just glad someone else gets it.

  • @kA-S-Shou-comment 1487- hey retard..dont get mad at me cuz i got one and u didnt ..mr “be the way..the time you send your?”…proof read your own tihs b4 u hate on sumone ..fool..;p

  • I see what both of you are saying, but I think why most people are mad is because they sent an email before many people who were able to get a key.

It’s like if you’re a kid, and you line up at the ice cream man for some free ice cream, and he just decides at one point to start gong to the back of the line, and then runs out before he gets back to you.

Are you going to be like, “Oh thank you ice cream man so much for handing out that free ice cream to all those other kids and not me!” I doubt it.

And for the record, I sent my email at 12:47 PT, but it was not “received” in the other inbox until 12:48 PT. Which still puts me ahead of many other people, so I’m pretty sure I still should have “shown up in the inbox” before many who were able to get keys. I think I got sent straight to spam or something. Ya know, because I’m a well-known spammer and all.

  • If you’re going to claim that is “the way of the internet”, then you must agree that sending through e-mail is not the way to go. If this is done again in the future for another game, I think there needs to be a better solution in order to correct the inconsistent nature of e-mail servers. Either have some sort of form to fill out or make comments in response to the blog post to obtain a code. Something that levels the playing field to the point of not being able to use the series of tubes argument in response to angry patrons.

  • I really hope most of you guys are in your early teens because the amount of crying on here is ridiculous. Its a free Beta. You do not deserve anything. This is not Obama land yet, well not yet. Until then at least, its a free gift. If you got in, great, if not stop crying.

Oh and BTW I did not get it, but I am happy for those that did.

  • hey if we havnt got a code yet and we win one now do we have to re-download the new one?

  • Wow…. get a grip people, those who got in can only play for a week, and the game comes out in less than three weeks! Are all gamers this impatient and immature? These must be the type of gamers who start fanboy wars. Just like the majority of people in here, I’m patiently waiting for Oct 21 to get my first chance to play LBP!!

  • I emailed less then 30min after the post and I didn’t get a Beta Code from here. I realized I got the Beta code from the Little Big Planet News Site. So I guess I just got lucky. Sorry to all those that didn’t make it in.

  • man 1624 comments

  • Jeff explain what happened if you care about your costumers/supporters

  • The game is nice, but in the tutorials for level creation the parameters for beating the tut keeps freezing. My game stuck on the music customization tut. I satisfied the requirements, but it would never say complete. So I quit for now, time to fold at home.

  • It sucks i didnt get a key but LBP is still gona be great, cant wait!

  • The reason I want in the beta so bad is because, yeah the game comes out on Oct. 21, but I’m in the Ohio National Guard and I leave for basic training on Oct. 28, so I get to buy the game and play it for six days. Then I won’t be able to play it again until I get back in June 2009. I’ve been following this game since GDC 2007, and it would mean a lot to me to be able to play it for more than six days after it launches. Anyone with a spare key feel free to email me or add me on psn.

  • I just read the rest of this post and realized the stuff about emails. I didn’t even send one, mine apparently came from reading something on the official LBP Site. That is crazy, I thought about going to different sites to try for a code, but gave it up as hopeless. I guess sometimes things just work out.

Not trying to be funny or anything, and sorry if you did not get in.

See you all in the full release.

  • Thanks Sony for nothing but stress and fustration, This “win a beta code” thing is the worst way to give out exclusive content. It would make more sense to me to give beta codes to people that have pre-ordered the game. But I guess Sony already has their money so who cares about them.

Somehow Sony managed to sour the sweetest tasting videogame of the current generation. I’ll still pick up my pre-order on the 21st but whenever I load up LBP I’ll always remember how much stress this game caused me and how stupid and unfair Sony can be.

  • Thank you for the Beta Key!
This was a great early wedding present (as I mentioned in my email).

I stayed up for hours last night playing the beta.. which may not have been a great idea since I received the Influenza (Flu) shot yesterday.

But thank you so much. This is the perfect game to get my fiancée playing the PS3 with me.
    November 1, 2008

  • Congratulations phileoca!!

I’m also getting married on the 1st!

  • E-mail sent, fingers crossed ^^

  • I hope they give out more today. I skipped school just so i cant get one! lol. i hope i didnt do it for nothing. *prays*

  • Look guys, I’m just pissed that I knew I was getting in, I was the 15th post, and emailed before that even… then i waited for a long ass time, and found out that other people that posted hours after me, somehow got in. That’s pretty much the gist of it, the 21st better hurry up! :D

  • Thanks for hooking me up PS Blog!
Can’t wait to get off work and really dig my teeth into this beta. It will make the wait for the full game so much easier. I’ve not had much time to experiance much but what I have played is charming and undeniably fun. Thanks again.

  • They are giving out more at the LittleBigPlanet website, but nothing in my inbox yet.

Of all the thousands of codes given I cant believe I don’t have one. I wouldn’t care so much if I haven’t tried so hard to get one. I hate to think I just wasted all that time for nothing.

  • LBP is awesome nice work and again thanks. To the people who didn’t get beta keys hold tight, when it releases you wont be mad. I wasn’t sure if this game would interest me but has totally caught me off guard. I will be purchasing this game day one.

  • i got this email from playstation blog does this mean im in?

  • I Love those little sack people!! I hope I get a BETA KEY. That would be cool.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

  • Got one last night by total surprise! Thank you LBP Newsite!, though unfortunately now I am leaving on a cross country trip and there won’t be a tv at the end of it :( and when I return the beta will have ended, but I had a fun romp with it last night, just gotta get that depth perception thing down, I’ve never seen my gf more frustrated lmao, she was about to start chunking controllers!

  • man i could say so many things about that explanation of how things were sent out.

    Honestly it’s not work.

so I just wanted to THANK the PSB for doing this for us and even though I didn’t get a key I’m sure those that have are really happy to have been chosen.

    THANKS EVERYONE

  • Thank you Jeff for giving out the codes that you have. I personally didn’t get one, but am appalled at the comments made. it isn’t anyone’s fault that people that say they sent in their email earlier than others didn’t get their code they should have. I personally know that not all service providers are not as quick to send out the emails and really it is like trying to phone into a radio contest. you may have dialed quickly but got a busy signal….then for some reason you try back and you get in!!

this is something that was offered FREE!! not promised that everyone would get one.

I think that everyone that is pissed at sony for not giving them what’s due should take a step back and really look at the situation. you try giving out something free and see how many people are mad at you because you didn’t give them one…..it is ridiculous

buy the game…..it is only a couple weeks away from release.

I have beta tested many many games and have more fun playing the full game anyway….it will be much better than the beta….trust me!

so those that complain go home and download the newest demos of bioshock, BIA and Beijing olympics and be content that you will get to play LBP soon enough.

cheers to all that did make it into the beta…..can’t wait to play

  • Gee whiz, I was hoping that during the week where my gold fish died, and the dog ate my homework, I was fired from my job, my girlfriend dumped me, my wife left me, I was sent to the principal’s office, fired from my job, my car was set on fire, the earth swallowed my house after it was hit by that flood caused by that hurricane AND typhoon, and Cliffy B. kicked me in the nuts, that a beta key code would make it all better. And yet I was denied once again by the almighty interwebs.

Did I mention I was an orphan. Oh, and sick too. I thought they had cured the black plague but I guess not.

(just in case you find some more beta keys in your back pocket.)

  • Hey!!! This Game is Great!! Game Of the Year For Me!!!
I was Late To Work i cant stop having fun with it!!
    psn:wizardpsx

    Tijuana, Mexico!

  • @1639 no, I got the same thing from lbp official site, but to no avail. I’ll just keep waiting for the game release.

  • Thank PS.BLOG you guys rock, played the beta last night for awhile and it is amazing.

  • I posted in the 70’s and did not get a code, oh well – looks like somehow the news got out prior to this being posted on the Playstation.blog. Oh well, i guess i will play my German copy…

  • @big_hawk97 roflmao…did you just cut and paste each little excuse from all the other comments on this post? lol, people think that making their life look bad that they have a better chance to play a beta…your life is not that bad if you can afford to purchase a PS3 and sit on a blog all day trying to score an early look at a game. We should just go give beta keys to the homeless shelters huh, they deserve them more than us. Some peoples children!!!

  • can you send me a key lbp please mate
    thanks jeff

  • @1639 sonu

Can you read? no u didnt get in.

  • posted early and sent email early and still didnt get in
