BioShock PS3 Trophies Confirmed, Detailed

142 0

As an ongoing effort to show some of the features that are going into BioShock for the PLAYSTATION 3, we would like to invite you to peek behind the curtain and see how the game is taking form.

BioShock welcome

Recently, the BioShock PS3 design team here at 2K Marin spent some time with the Trophy system for the PS3. The Trophies for the PS3 are ranked as if you, the game player, were an Olympian. It seemed only right that we organize our thoughts by this method.
Our first batch out of the Trophy-maker, were the Bronze Trophies.

Just like in the original BioShock, for the PS3 version our initial emphasis was on encouraging thoroughness and exploration of the BioShock universe. Each system in BioShock has a reward for the player that digs deep enough. Our hope is that players that may otherwise neglect a system will want to explore it just for the Trophy. Systems like Researching, Modifying Weapons, Hacking, and Crafting are all loaded with awards. A meticulous player will find themselves up to their armpits in prizes.

While every system has a tactical in-game advantage, we hope these Trophies will encourage players to try out every aspect of BioShock. Hacking, for example, is a system that some players may never focus on. However, for the player who gets out their wrench and starts tinkering, the tactical significance of having a turret and two security bots on your team is impressive. We hope that luring you in with the promise of glittering medals will make you consider revisiting such systems. We believe that once you get a nibble of the effectiveness of certain tactics, you’ll come back for a full meal.

Silver Trophies were next to be handed out.

For the true explorer, we present one of the more difficult Trophies to get in all of Rapture. The “Historian” Trophy is awarded for finding every single audio diary. This particular Trophy is Silver because we understand the rigor required for this endeavor. If you’re a true adventurer and seek to know the full story of the fall of Rapture, look under every desk and open every door. There are many to find.
As you may expect, several Trophies must remain secret. Giving this information away has the same effect as turning to the last page in a great book. We imagine you hate this as much as we do. The other silver Trophy must remain in our vault until you discover it for yourselves.

Next we turned to the Gold Trophies, the real beauties.

When considering how to use these Trophies to reward players, we chose to give a respectful nod to those few who desire a challenge. We believe that BioShock PS3 has a lot to offer in a single play through, but we wanted to emphasize and reward a player’s second or third descent into Rapture. This led us to create new Trophies that encourage more advanced tactics and enemies that provide a greater challenge.
As a result of this thinking the first Trophy bears the name, “Brass Balls”. If you desire to be among the few who have this prestigious award on their mantle, you must win BioShock on Hard difficulty with the Vita-Chambers turned off. A feat so daring that anyone even glimpsing this formidable Trophy in your glass case will be shaking with terror and respect.

There are still more Trophies yet to be unveiled which will push you further than this. Devilish trials which only the sturdiest among us will finish. Keep your ears peeled for further details.

We believe that you will find gathering all of these Trophies a grueling but satisfying trek. Should you manage to gather every single bronze, silver, and gold Trophy, the ultimate achievement is waiting: the coveted BioShock Platinum Trophy. Its glistening mass is reserved for those few who can stare down a Big Daddy without shivering.

Our hands are at the ready to give congratulatory pats on the back to anyone strong willed enough to claim these shiny keepsakes. Until then, expect more updates from the designers here at 2K Marin as BioShock for the PS3 surfaces.

  • idk what the differ between collector or special edition but it would be nice to recieve a trophies right away for having a collector edition of the game

  • i don’t see how custom soundtrack will improve the experience for this game.. also, aren’t those trophies the same as the achievements on the 360?

  • ohhh come on…
same achive dat d xbox version
    and its taking dat long…
hope it comes with better graphics or somethin

  • I can get a second-hand special-edition xbox version for 20 quid. But i’m happy to wait for, and pay full whack, for the PS3 version if there is good incentive.

Will there be any improvement to frame-rate/graphics/gameplay/ sound content or anything else?

  • Trophies add to the replay value of any game…heck its been awhile since I’ve played my SuperStardust until the trophies and I’ve been playing it quite often! I can’t wait for Pain trophies cuz they’re gonna be hard!!! :-P

I just hope this game is worth all the whining over. Xbots always tried to rub this into our faces so I’m gonna give it a equal shot at impressing me :)

  • I’m not a shooter fan but i think i’m starting to like them lol, Bioshock will be great, this and Killzone 2 !!!!

  • wouldn’t it b cool if your friends could create profiles on your ps3 like they can on a 360 and when you and your friends play they could log in and unlock trophys to when devs start using them, just a thought

i know you can create multiple profiles but im sayin wouldnt it b cool if you could log in on all of like you can on the 360 and unlock trophies withyour friends

will sony make that possible by a fw update or sumthin

  • Good news about the trophies

  • Yes! Thank you very much! Brong on the trophies Sony! Jeesh!

  • good job!! and please add some to MGS4 please!!

  • About time this game made its way onto the PS3. And about time more games support trophies. Looking forward to hearing more about it.

  • I´m really glad to heard that guys from 2k are really worry about this game for Ps3.

  • i sincerely hope that more developers will take this effort with trophies and getting them into the game.. it will definitely further my interest in buying and playing a game more thoroughly.. i know there are a lot of gamers out there who just blow thru a game so they can move on to whatever is next.. absolutely not my strategy.. i like taking my time and experiencing all a game has to offer…

and that includes the soundtrack.. no need for in-game music in games of this nature.. at least not to me…

  • So how many Trophies in total are you going to have? Could you break the count down into Bronze, Silver and Gold?

  • See, this is a truly great article. THey delve into their trophy system, without giving away too much, but yet, give readers a taste and hunger for the soon to release product. On the other hand, I have been emailing SCEA for the past 2 weeks trying to get any details about any game that will feature trophies and when, along with the approximate date of when games will be mandated to feature trophy support…..All I got was the SONY STIFF ARM.

“As much as we would like to address all of your questions, there are certain topics that are simply out of the scope of this department within Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA). Additionally, due to the complex nature of this industry and its products, certain information is just not easily available.”

I think that not saying anything is poor business ethics. You can clearly see that people are ready for this feature and more information on it. Take a note from 2K Marin, Sony, we want details! And as long time paying consumers I believe we’ve earned it!!

  • this will be one amazing game

  • I’m definitely picking this up!

  • :) :) :) I’m awaiting patiently! Glad to see 3rd parties coming over to the blog and posting…!!

  • Well that has certainly made me suddenly interested in this game! I really have no idea what Bioshock is, I’ve only seen trailers awhile ago for the pc. But because of the addition of trophies, i will definately be picking this game up. Sounds like it has rpg elements with the hacking and crafting, I love anything customizable :) Sounds awesome, can’t wait! :D

  • Sweet I can’t wait to pick this up.

  • It looks amazing

  • Thanks for the update.

  • STOP WITH THE IN-GAME MUSIC REQUESTS!!!

Cripes! Half of the reason the game is so good is the way it pulls you into its world with the sounds of the classic music! They would be morons to support in-game custom soundtracks.

btw… I’d be curious to know how many of you made fun of this game when it was only on the 360 then got excited when it was announced for PS3…

  • @ 74 johnnymoses

i heard of this game when it was on the 360 i even helped my friend beat it i thought it was graet then and now thats its on the PS3 i still thinks its great. i my Be a Sony suporter but i never get cought up in the system wars as they say yes i may say something along to line of which console i like better but if i see a great game on the other system that i like i will give it the respect it desevers. but then aain its not like our comments influence what goes on in the gaming world. but once i enetr the gaming industry maybe my comments might actual mean something

  • And this is why I’ll be rebuying this game, Sony. Trophies are FTW.

  • Ok sony enough with the childish games. Xbox has Netflix, Final Fantasy and more games. Its do or die for you guys in the states if you expect to keep a happy audience. You guys need to step it up…Final Fantasy 7, all the japanese games your selling on PSN, More exclusives if not parallel release dates, NETFLIX (who in their right mind would care to spend money on a movie that they wont see until years later). This is starting to look like a old Mike Tyson fight where you guys just cant and wont win!! Who is in charge of your market strategy it is better to flood the market with choices then to make them wait for one item. 3DO died from that strategy. The masses are getting restless and people are running out of fighting words for Sony. Help us help you. WE NEED MORE!!!

  • Finally something about trophies!! this game is a must have for me! nice!

  • Ok Sony enough with the childish games! Xbox has Netflix, Final Fantasy, and more games. What more do you need to motivate a stronger market strategy. This isnt a oil crisis there is no need to ration your games. Games people actually play is not the point all the time its the variety of choices that makes owning a game system interesting. You have many ACES in your whole but have yet to use them. Waiting is going to get you nowhere because that has been proven with such a late release of the system. Final Fantasy 7, Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, 3, Tekken Tag, Intellicube(PSN Network), Netflix, Exclusives, Parallel release dates, these are a few of my favorite things. This is heart wrenching, its like seeing a nerd get beat up by a bully. You just wanna help.

  • *******For Some Reasons I’ve Been Experiencing Problems Posting Here – For Some Reason When I Submit A Post It Never Shows Up – When I Try To Resubmit The Post I Get A WARNING Saying Double Post Detected – Any Help?******

    On Topic:

I can’t wait for this game and the extra trophy goodness is sure to add more to the experience.

  • @80 I get the same message too. It looks like the url is messed up after I post a comment.

  • nice!
this gonna be the best bioshock version!

  • If a game features music in track form (ie., Burnout Paradise), then I can see the point of custom soundtracks.

If the game features its own soundtrack that compliments the game and the environment, then why would you need a custom soundtrack?

If you’re that desperate for your own music, buy a stereo, don’t keep insisting than Sony incorporate something to take the games out of context.

  • i can’t wait for some more trophies. what other incentives are there for collecting trophies other than just displaying them against my PSN buddies?

    thanks,
    Lh

  • ***** DO NOT RENT ANY MOVIES FROM SONY PSN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ********

the PSN is a rip-off …do NOT rent from it. let me give you my experience with it:

on Thursday the 17th of July i purchased the HD version of Cloverfield. i paid 5.99 for it (or 6.99) and was happy to be supporting sony. i read the licensing agreement that says once you play back the movie you can only view it for 24 hours thereafter. rather than wait to play back the movie after it finished downloading (which was over 5 GBs) i tried streaming it and it worked for about 4 minutes after which i got a “Buffering…” message and had to wait. i decided to wait for the movie to finish downloading overnight to play it back the next day. the following day, the movie was finished downloading and i tried to play it back and i got the “expired content” message! maybe it’s just me but i interpreted a “playback” as playing back a FULL MOVIE…not a stream with “Buffering” messages! the timer should begin after the movie download is complete! so i wrote customer care immediately because their telephone support was closed for the day and customer care never replied back to my message. i called today and spoke with “Steve” who empathized with me and said “i understand you had some problems with the download let me transfer you”… he transferred me to a woman who insisted she could do nothing, “unfortunately, the terms of the license state you can’t view it after 24 hours” to which i kept telling her, “i couldn’t playback the movie, how can the 24 hours begin if the movie is not even watchable??” she told me she could not refund the money and i told her i didn’t want my money back, i just wanted to watch the movie. so she transferred me to her supervisor, Charles. i was on hold a very long time while waiting for “Charles” and when he finally got on the phone he was a complete jerk. he should NOT be a supervisor. if he had taken the time to see how much money i’ve spent on the playstaion network he would have seen that i have actually purchased a lot of items from PSN and he should treat me with some understanding rather than being such a jerk. He kept repeating what the woman said about the license and i kept telling him it’s how your interpret playback…how can you playback what’s not there??

Only one copy of a Rental Content may be viewable on an Authorized Device for up to 24 hours after the first playback or 14 days after payment for the Rental Content, whichever is sooner.

this the line from Sony’s PSN Store license agreement. i told him it was bull*#&* what they were doing and it was stealing and he hung up on me. this is the type of support you’ll get from Sony PSN consumer care it’s exactly the type of thing that loses customer loyalty and support. microsoft would NEVER do that to a customer. i’ve been a hardcore PS3 fanboy up to now…today i am very pissed off and i am going to post this in as many places as possible to cost Sony thousands of dollars for being so selfish with 5.99.

please copy and paste this on every forum you know!

  • I just hope that BioShock Trophies are not LAME looking at SuperStarDust HD, one Trophy with different color to represent the Status.. like if you look clearly its one trophy colored Bronze, Silver and Gold.

  • @87 Good to know. Not sure what it has to do with Bioshock ps3 Trophies… But good to know none the less.

And as far as Bioshock on the ps3. I can’t wait!

  • this game is going to be sick. i loved it on the 360.

  • I can’t wait to buy this game guys! Please disregard the immature idiots (nevian) on the blog. Please implement custom soundtracks for this game!

  • my laptop couldnt play this game and i never use my 360 so glad i can finally play this on PS3. and with trophies.

  • Why is everyone chomping at the bit for in-game music? Who could possibly want to play your own songs in place of Bioshock’s beautiful and haunting score?!

It would just take away from the experience.

  • pretty :D

  • @85

that’s what you get for starting to watch a movie that won’t be downloaded before it expires, next time wait for the download to finish before watching it, or just get faster internet so that you can stream the movie.

Anyway i can’t wait for Bioshock hopefully i will get all the trophies, beating the game on hard can’t be much harder than beating CoD4 on veteran.

  • How about mouse and keyboard support? More games should support my mouse and keyboard for the PS3.

Always preferred playing first person shooters with mouse and keyboard.

  • I already have BioShock, ticked me off when they announced it was coming out for PS3. Sorry 2K, but I’m not buying it again. And sorry Sony, you should have pushed for this sooner.

  • thanks 4 the update
finally I can play this beautiful game & with trophies .
