Hi, everyone. As many of you know, we released PS3 firmware update v2.40 last week, but had to take it offline temporarily because, for a limited number of users, the XMB wouldn’t display after the update was installed. We’ve been able to fix the problem, and I’m happy to report that firmware update v2.41 will be released shortly.
We want to extend our apologies to the PlayStation community for any inconvenience. Now we’ll be looking forward to seeing everyone online and racking up those trophies!
i just downloaded version 2.41 and i got a problem with it, i can’t play my own music while i’m playing one of my games. so can you guys help me out?
I just download the 2.41 patch to my Playstation that was working just fine with the 2.40 update and now when I turn on my system all I get is a black screen with the occasional flicker of the screen that lasts for 2 or 3 seconds then goes back to black and even that stops after 5 minutes.

Thank you for the info but the reason we’re using it is to show Planet Earth in high def via my now bricked PS3.
Purchased an external enclosure and hope reformatting does the trick. Oh, and I’m NOT happy about losing all my game info!

ok this is all fine and dandy makin a bit of progress i see the progress toward HOME but when is that going to be released it took for ever for MGS4 and even longer for an in game XMB even xbox has a beta for making your own games out (for $99) what is sony going to do to compete with that?
personally i suggest somthing to do with the compatibility of linux and the PS3 thay tryed it once kind of for the PS2 it only failed because of the cost of the hardware (same reason ffXI was kind of a flop) now u have the power and potential to just freely distribute the software alone and do the same thing to crush the competition.
on the PSN u cant even rent movie this is yet another dissapointment to me due to the fack sony is all blu-ray gung-ho if HD DVD is truley gone than thay have no reason to put trailers for movies on the PSN store especally for movies as old as thay are advertising i mean who cares bout i married an ax murderer when thay should be more focoused on more recent releases like 300
i would most definitly absoloutly love to see more support for way larger hard drives and your partition options when installing another OS maybe even options for multiple OS’s ( I.E. yellow dog linux and fedora)
some times i just feel that the sony corp dosent take full advantage of there hardwares potental please dont make me feel like i have invested $800 in somthig that has the power of this machine but the owners wont allow it to be done or even take in to consideration how the consumers feel i would love to see this macine come to life and see people using a user friendly GUI to make there ideas come to life that we can share as attachments through messages or upload to a server and download from a development PSN store all i ask is quit pushing the blu-ray thing and focus on the true potental of this machine make it so we feel no need to “chip” or “mod” the machine but yet u still controle over the hardware enough to where we dont want to pirate or install a chip to use the true potental

Do you have a 60GB model? I have my PS3 hooked up via HDMI and I also notice since 2.40, I can no longer play PS2 games either. After inserting the disc, it shows up on the game menu, and after starting it, it just hangs. Blank screen, TV says “No Video Input”. I have to manually hold down the power button on the console to turn off system. Otherwise, PSone, PS3, DVD movies work fine…I haven’t tried a blu-ray but I assume that would work too.
Downloaded 2.40, my ps3 worked perfectly. Today i download 2.41, after one in game message my ps3 turns off and now i cant turn it on again :(……….Sony i have been a fan since PS1…..ur hanging by a thread now
I am quiet surprised on how, all of us PS3 owners were understanding when Sony pulled 2.40! All of you guys were so supporting, so like for example, none of us were complaining about the faults and the problems ! We knowhat you had to go through Sony ! Thanks for the 2.41 update, I was having troubles with my headset, sometimes, no body could hear me when i was online so now that is fixed, and the in-game xmb is les laggy ! Thanks Sony ! Keep the updates coming ! PS3 Rocks!
Is sony going to update the PC download for their firmware?
since i updated to 2.4 i have been getting DNS errors when i try to do anything network related on my PS3 (using my internet now with several computers and the 360 works fine). wired or wireless. So i was hoping that the latest update would solve my problems. but since i can’t download anything with my ps3 and since Sony hasn’t updated their PC download link since 2.36
I am screwed. Now i am not sure i want the update since several people here are having problems.
I must say that i am surprised to see Sony let this happen. talk about embarrassing.
If Sony keeps this up then they will never regain the spot as the top dog of console game systems. but i guess that’s what we get for “free”.

wow, i’m scared to even play it anymore… and this is my 4th ps3. non of the others broke from firmware.. not that i know of…makes me wonder… this is weak. why are we worried about firmware… i just wanna play it. sony, fix your problems instead of needing to release update after update to fix your last mistake… this is starting to get sad
serious…2.36 was very stable. never had an issue till 2.4x
in-game XMB is not that kool for me to worry about playing… it’s the point. to play the game. not worry if you did your job right and mines not gonna break. then wait 6 months in line with the others as you drag your feet to get a new system for me… i’d rather lie to the retailer and then you get the loss… another voided machine on your part… thanks god for warranties

I still have v2.36, I wanted to download it via PC but now I’m wondering, I want to wait a month or 2 before I install any more fw updates but I can’t even log in online cuz it wants me to update first. And where are the mods in this form to answer the questions? Maybe Sony has them and the janitors and salesmen fixing the fw updates also lol

Update to my original post. Sony’s customer service rep admitted to me she has been getting other phone calls about the 2.41 upgrade problem, but won’t elaborate. Sony’s repsonse? Since my PS3 is still under warranty, I send the PS3 back for replacement or repair. Seems pretty drastic for what appears to be a software glitch. I would much rather fix the last patch with another patch (it couldn’t make it any worse than it already is). Anyway, for the rest of you out there, I suggest you hold off from the 2.41 upgrade, if you can. My PS3 is a big, fat, black brick now..and I pissed off….

I am kinda scared to update since people are reporting some serious problems and there is no official or unofficial statement from sony yet.
Thanks for updating sony’s web site admin! I really love it when a company keeps their web site out of date, does not reply to comments, and makes their users sift through a forum to find answers to questions that customer support can’t answer and to download system updates.
SONY. If you keep this crap up you will never regain the top spot in the console market. Can anybody think of a ps2, xbox, or xbox 360 system update that caused as much problems for end users as this has?

and at this point, while i can still play my ps3 i kind of wish i could just downgrade the firmware back to 2.36 when everything ran perfect.

in all seriousness y did thay make these dam next gen consoles FW uppgradible did the dev scene piss them off that much seriously the slim ps2 and psp were released to prevent the dev scenes production and reguardless certin models of the slim ps2 thay found the IDE solder points and created there own case extenders to fit the HDD so thay changed the mobo but that still didnt prevent using an exteral USB HDD or the USB loader for them quit being nieve soy u will never stop dev only slow us down that is what we are good at is solving puzzles the more u give us the more we will find a way around it reguardless of ure worthless efforts even the slim PSP can still be firmware hacked with a little bit more work just make a good product and forget about making it harder for us cuz it will never work

I REFUSE to upgrade to v2.41 until they fix this for Real. If I had to choose between No Trophies and NO PS3, I know which one I’d pick. NO WAY am I going to risk bricking my 60Gb PS3. I sold my PS2, so this is all I have to play games on. It’s ridiculous that this is even an issue!

NEW RULE: Don’t release any more Busted Software. Make sure it’s ready before cramming it down our collective throat. or at least give us the option to Upgrade. Apple never tells me that if I don’t download the latest patch that I can’t go online! Adopt a better model for your Upgrades, like NOW!
any one else get a problem with the ps3 cutting out to static using HDMI out ive had this issue for at least 3 FW updates now have never had the problem since the update so im shure sony has somthing to do with it or my ps3 is taking a crap
