Hi, everyone. As many of you know, we released PS3 firmware update v2.40 last week, but had to take it offline temporarily because, for a limited number of users, the XMB wouldn’t display after the update was installed. We’ve been able to fix the problem, and I’m happy to report that firmware update v2.41 will be released shortly.
We want to extend our apologies to the PlayStation community for any inconvenience. Now we’ll be looking forward to seeing everyone online and racking up those trophies!
Good to know that all the GOOD sony games will never see trophies…oh well guess they are just as useless I thought…
trophies are reserved for lame $10 psn arcade games….so if you are a fan of tetris and pong only with supped up graphics u are in luck my friend!! otherwise if you are a serious gamer who likes to compete then trophies are useless to u.
Even echochrome is better than that stardust bull, and it is a sony first party title!! and they can even get trophies for that game!!! wtf and you actually expect 3rd parties to go out of their way to provide them?? fat chance…they already got paid which leaves us screwed with a very useless trophy collection icon.
So when is pong HD coming out? I cant wait!? I hear if u hit the ball with ur paddle u get a trophy!!! awesome this is a gamer’s heaven I cant wait to see the look on my friends faces when they see my pong trophies!!! Why not just add a coin slot to the ps3 sony? so I can FEEL like I am really in the arcade!!
what next? frogger HD and trophy support…god I cant wait, all the greatest games with top notch trophy support….

In an official statement issued to ThreeSpeech, SCEE explains the problem with firmware 2.40. It seems that there was a problem which “prevented a limited number of PS3s from activating properly after updating to version 2.40, when certain system administrative data were contained on the HDD.” This has now been fixed with 2.41, though those who suffer from the problem (which prevents the PS3 from loading up the XMB) will not be able to access the new firmware update.
Instead, those who had problems with 2.40 will need to contact Customer Services and will receive a replacement PS3. 2.41 will prevent this problem happening to anyone else. The statement also reiterates that those who installed 2.40 successfully will not suffer from any issues. Good news all round, really. We’re happy those people who were too slow to grab 2.40 will now be able to start earning trophies and enjoying in-game XMB with the rest of us.

i have always been able to before pause it or stop it when ever i was doing anything beside playing a game. i’m on my fourth ps3 cause i use it so much.
ps3 History:
1st: fan went out in 7 hours (60g)
2nd: drive motor went out (60g)
3rd: drive diode went out (60g)
4th: poor music playback… (80g mgs4)
i also own almost every game downloadable… my girl works at hollywood video so i rent every game that comes to them
i’ve beta tested almost every ps3 game out that was available to me… even paid for qore and all that …
wtf, it’s not like i don’t spend the money to have one.
it should be about upgrades, not downgrades with a bigger number…
Mine got the update just fine. Now I have Trophies, and cna check my buddies stats, as well as my own any time I wish! I can also PM them from the trophies screen! IN-GAME XMB on GT5 is vary nice and works great! Now we need BF:BC to support these features! This is the begining of the PS3s community features!
HOME is next! And we all are looking forward to that!

I just happened to be on my PS3 and about to log out when I got the msg on the 2.41 being available.
After installing, I immediately went into PSN to see if the patch was again available for SSDHD.
What I did come across was a download for ‘PS2 Software’ in the form of the Emotion engine. With it were instructions for copying PS2 games from the disc to the hard drive.
It was late so I did not get a chance to use the software, but I did download and install it without a problem. I have not been able to find any mention of this being on PSN.
Can anyone elaborate?

I took apart my PS3 to clean it I smoke in my room and I know it is going to happen. Smoke leaves a residue that air dusters and lens cleaners can’t remove I have to open my ps3 once a year to get it to read discs again. I wouldn’t suggest to anyone to do it their self there are cleaning services that are cheaper than getting a new PS3. Tho I don’t think it’s smoke in your situation. Air dusters can damage optical drives I don’t know who told people to spray air dusters into their drives but that can ruin a drive.

How come games such as MGS4 and GTA IV does not have trophies?
When can we see in game voice chat?…in game texting is a little annoying it takes to long and its best used for cell phones I do not understand this?
I really do not understand how we have trophies but only one game to get trophies for?
Every game I have does not support trophies COD4, GTA IV, MGS4, Folklore no trophies…
I think no trophies for MGS4 is unacceptable Sony come on…I would think that with MGS4 and 2.40 so close to there release dates it should have Trophies.
question… how are you supposed to update the console that has been bricked? i mean my 2.40 works great am just asking for any one who was thinking the same thing.

This update is different– it automatically restarts so you don’t have to press the PS button.
@519 if you read up earlier they are patching all the games you mentioned for trophy support. Blame the devs they had the tools to have it already in the game before the firmware came out just I guess the developers of the games are lazy.

I recall a few months back when someone spotted the firmware being updated to support the PS2 games being copied to the hard drive at the Asian store, but it wasn’t documented in North America.

Im on my 10th xbox 360 so 4 ps3’s sound like a dream machine. im on my first launch 60gb still works.

Is closed captioning supported yet?
My Mac can play DVDs that have embedded closed captioning in the video stream. I was going to buy a PS3 but now I can’t play my old DVDs because I don’t hear well. Millions of baby boomer customers. Millions of hearing impaired people. Makes economic sense to pursue putting this capability into the PS3. Thanks for your time and consideration.

Subtitles just have to be turned on in the DVD title menu. Almost all have the option under languages or setup.
