Hi, everyone. As many of you know, we released PS3 firmware update v2.40 last week, but had to take it offline temporarily because, for a limited number of users, the XMB wouldn’t display after the update was installed. We’ve been able to fix the problem, and I’m happy to report that firmware update v2.41 will be released shortly.
We want to extend our apologies to the PlayStation community for any inconvenience. Now we’ll be looking forward to seeing everyone online and racking up those trophies!

@444……HVB and Pain you don’t go to the menu like SSHD….on those…hit the Select button on your controller….will take you to your HDD music and then you select from there.
SO EVERYBODY IS STILL COMPLAINING ABOUT TROPHIES… IM TRYIN TO FIND OUT IF UR GUYS SYSTEM IS MESSED UP LIKE CUZ OF THE 2.40 UPDATE
@422 you can turn notification off I think but if you are in the middle of a movie example I was watching a movie “There will be blood” and then while watching it getting notifications of people signing on or offline which is annoying. Very good movie but thats besides the point. I figure if you pause it or exit then the notifications can come up. Now I can just sign off the psn when I start watching a movie and I have to check but I’m sure you can turn notification off. I do not think I should have to do either. I figure an sub menu would be in our best interest player notification while playing ps3 games, dvds, folding, etc.

Eric, can we expect to see the SSDHD patch re-introduced to the network? I was greatly disappointed to see that the patch was taken down temporarily for SSDHD. I just wish for another opportunity to download the patch from the SSDHD servers so I can earn those trophies. Thanks.
How will those with “dead” PS3’s update if they can’t even start up the XMB?
Not that my PS3 is gone, I was lucky enough to get both SSHD and 2.40 updates working just fine.
BTW Eric Lempel: For the future, don’t have trophies for add-ons unlocked without even buying the addons. I don’t feel like shelling out $10 for some trophies to get 100% while I can just buy another game, say PAIN, for a full $10. If you want to make trophies for the addon packs, make sure that the trophies are only unlocked if you buy the addon packs.

since your trophy list is synchronized with the server, ALL trophies are avaible to everybody at all times (I ASSUME)

Well honestly…your tastes are 100% different than mine….I dont fancy arcade games on my $400 gaming system….I like action games and if you sold you copy of MGS 4 for $15 then you are a dumbass.
I played stardust at my friends house and it was sooooooo lame!! omg all the levels are the same, no adventure at all…its just well lame.
if I want to play something like that ill go to the arcade and do so for 25 cents.
gta iv trophies would be nice too….I just hate the fact that if I want trophies I gotta fork over 10 for a piece of crap that I cant stand..
so u guys dont have any problems with the 2.40 update n why is everybody talkin bout trophies. n since theres only 2games rite now that have them its a stupid game n try to play a challenging game or go head to head with somebody in a real game

if i know about it….. then im sure who is in charge knows about it as well…. so if you put 2 and 2 togheter.. you know you must match it rigth away in order to stay competitive especially in north america.. give away more ground now…

blu ray players are like 300 dollars alone… the ps3 has more expensive parts, hence, i think sony’s prices will stay stable for awhile

hey i have a problem with 2.41..i was downloading it was about 60% done and my ps3 is conected to the internet with a wireless router and my internet conection failed for a second and the ps3 just rebooted by itself..it works fine it says 2.41 is installed and no update is required but i read that 2.41 includes a 4th tab on the profile card for latest games played and that tab its not there..the platinum trophy icon changed fine and the in game xmb works fine..so should i be worried? the 2.41 instalation never got completed…but it works fine..
i got it bout 6 months ago n i think it should be in warranty still

@supersnake: 13 bombed systems yikes I can see why you might be a tad disgruntled. However I doubt that its directly sony or the nlu ray drive’s direct fault. Its worth asking tho if you have pets or you live in a househould with smokers because smoke residue and pet hair build up could just as easily be at fault. Slot loading drives like the ps3 has are also pretty sensitive my friends Wii developed DRE issues at one point and when he took it in to get looked at the dianosis was that the lens had gotten coated with tar residue cuz hes a heavy smoker especially when hes playing games.
Barring that tho and assuming all 13 drives came from the same retailer its entirely possible that there had been some mishandling going on from shipment to shelf tho they’ve been spread out over time its highly unlikely that after the first few replacements you’d still be saddled with broken systems. I would suggest calling where ever you’ve been buying/replaceing yer consoles and seeing if they’ve had any other repeated returns like yours.
Assuming they don’t lie and they say yer an isolated case of apparently hideously bad luck then its safe to say that whatever is fubaring yer blu ray drive is happening on yer end after you bring them home.
I had to laugh at yer “abandon blu ray” thing tho. Theres nothing wrong with blu ray and I doubt sony would abandon their one sucessful proprietary format they come out with that didn’t bomb (Mini Disc, UMD movies) or get blown out of the water by competitor (BETAMAX) because 13 out of a few million consoles apparently have problems which may or may not be unintentionally the fault of a the user or retailer.
I haven’t downloaded it yet, but does this give the option to turn the clock and date on and off?

Yeah right, it wont be happening anytime soon unless Sony makes Trophy mandatory, I aint buying a lame *** game for the trophies.

PS3 Software Trophy Support List
We gave you the story of the classic PS3 trio of software that won’t be getting Trophy support, but we still don’t have the official, definitive word on which games will, and which games won’t. We have heard from several sources that about 70% of PS3 titles will support Trophies, but again, we don’t have a specific set of lists.
Well, it’d be difficult to compile, but if you want to check an ongoing updated list, head on over to TheSixthAxis, where they’re currently setting up a “yes, no, and maybe” list for the trophy support subject. As you can see, that trio of Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Resistance: Fall of Man is under the “Will Not Support Trophies” category, as we reported earlier. But it’s the other lists that should interest you, and that includes the “Expected To Support Trophies;” it only includes one game right now: Bioshock. We imagine this is true, because we’ve heard plenty of evidence that this PS3 remake will most certainly boast Trophies. Chances are, 2K was well aware of them when they started on the project.
Anyway, keep checking back as they update it, and we’ll be sure to keep you apprised of any major, big-name titles that will or will not support Trophies. Well, at least for now; eventually, most all games will, so it won’t be much of an issue.”
mgs4 is bomb game n playable hella times n it got mgo so da guy who sold it to get sshd doesnt kno wat a good game is n should stay at da acrade n play pacman or centipede
@469 nothing went wrong man my download did the same thing chugged slowly till it got to 60% and then skipped to 100% and rebooted. So far there is no “4th tab” so wherever you heard about that was either wrong or the feature was not included.
So relax everything went fine :D

Are you sure you lost your internet connection? When mine updated, it got to 60% and then leapt to 100% in the blink of an eye and automatically restarted/installed fine.

well anyway noticing that do we exspect to see auto turn off in downloads in the future?
oh and good job with the update , in-game XMB seems to be running allot smoother. I didnt notice any lag when moving through it at all and the icon seem to load allot quicker. Xant wait till E3.
wonder what surprises await for us there.
oh and btw what is the upcoming maintanence for?
Aircard, Need Aircard support if that is possible. I know there are PS3 owner with internet service that Uses Aircards. If its possible then add it in an update. If not then say somethign about it pleas.
I honestly don’t get it why in-game music / customized soundtrack is so important. I love the sound in the game as that makes the entire atmosphere complete. I couldn’t imagine to play an Uncharted, Folklore, Oblivion or a Ratchet & Clank without their original soundtrack. But that’s just me, so in-game music is the least important feature to me, unless the music is so annoying, but can’t think of any game which has that.
And once again, more games supporting trophies surely will come, once the phase of using by us, without any “major” problems have passed, I’m almost certain about that ;-)

I clean out my system every paycheck with a can of compressed air, also yesterday while I was reinstalling windows (on my pc), my OS drive overheated, restarted “ntdlr not found”.
reformatted the drive and all’s well, (sounds like the ps3 problem huh?) maybe heat was a factor with those damaged systems

I, like many others, had zero problems with 2.40, so it’s a bit of a pain that I will need to install 2.41, but I guess if it’s for the greater good, I can pony up and get ‘er done.

it could be possible, maybe there’s a dust bunny inside your system or humidity could be a factor too… I put my ps3 in the box every night because it’s like 90% humidity everyday/night

first off, i was “lucky” enough to not have an effected system, but i have a complaint that to me renders it most usless for my needs now.
has anyone noticed the loss of Internet browsing and music playback?
they don’t go together as smoothly as before this update.
The main function beside gaming for my ps3 is the fact I can listen to music with flawless sound and browse the net for what ever it may be. if i have any audio coming out from the net then i have to wait for the songs to end just to hear it… there is no more pause or even a stop feature.
Has no one noticed we lost the ability to pause or even stop music from the internet browser. Dude, it’s a ps3… i can wait for patches to play music in games, but to take something away to give us something we have to wait even longer for.
Not to mention i’ve locked up my ps3 3 times in 10 min trying to log onto the psblog… wouldn’t even let me do it.
since when does a 400-500$ machine that could do it before, now can not…???
this loss of function has made this machine just another gaming console. not the supposed media machine its supposed to be.
fix it sony, you had it better before 2.4 period.

i am the biggest sony supporter i know. i own every system… not sure why i do still but even my ps1. just for kicks i guess. i’m only mad about losing function, not about the trophies or in game XMB, thats all a work in progress.

I went in the game to the store still isnt there my super stardust hd is updated to 4.00 I wish they would put it back up cause all i need is the co op trophy

Don’t want to wade through 10 pages of comments… but hopefully someone mentioned the voice problems (particularly in games like Warhawk) that were caused by the 2.4 update.
Hopefully this has been fixed! (I bought the PS3 because it was wireless and hate having to go back to using my wired USB mic)
