As has been reported on many gaming blogs and websites, we have temporarily taken Firmware v2.40 offline. We’ve received a limited number of calls from consumers experiencing an issue with installing the system software update on their PS3. While our consumer services department has seen a low volume of calls on this topic, we are committed to providing the PS3 community with XMB access features delivered in the v2.40 update. We are working diligently to isolate the problem for those few consumers and to identify a solution before we put the firmware back up.
We’ll provide further information as necessary here on the Blog.
@Big-Slug…I’m not sure that game has it as not all do.
But try hitting the Select button on your controller when the game is loaded and it should take you to the music…select one from your HDD and if it plays it works.
Apparently Sancho45 just told me that High Velocity Bowling and Pain both had this feature before 2.40.
Just glad we have these blogs to find this stuff out. I have HVB and didn’t even know it was available !
Look at post 1764 to download. I posted the site there…no invite required. I tested it on my PS3 and it works great. Only 1 person out of 800 had a problem…and they knew that they had a corrupt HDD anyways. Echo posted directions to D/L and install the update. Enjoy (if you are impatient like me)

They were using PJM Eden, which will be out shortly and support both in-game music and trophy’s. The original PJM supports neither, as of now.

Would it be too much to ask to add a VIDEO PLAYLIST function? There is one for photos and there is one for music. Would it be too hard to implement? I know a lot of young gamers wouldn’t appreciate this but when I have company, it would be nice to play a bunch of music videos without having to exit out and start the next one. Please consider this for the next update for those who didn’t purchase this machine just for games. Thank You.

@1798…not sure for your own videos, but there’s a software package called TVersity that you can download for free and they just updated their release this week.
You can stream internet music, photos, videos etc and another site called viewmy.tv (mentioned on TVersity website) will add TV stations from all over the place.

1803, that is the smarter thing to do, make no doubt about it. Granted, myself and many others have done it the other way, and it works, but make no mistake that no one would blame you for waiting.
interesting side notes to things said on this page.
1, yes SSDHD, HVB, and PAIN have had custom music since they were released. well, at least since i’ve owned them and it’s been since january this year.
2, yes the update at neoGAF works.
3, there may be a few initial issues after you install 2.40, just restart your p3. DO NOT TURN IT OFF FROM THE BACK OR UNPLUG IT IF THERE”S A PROBLEM. give it time, it may become laggy for a while.
4, there is no ingame music unless the game already has it. sony can’t do it, even though it’s a software and not a hardware issue with the MS patent.
5, even though you have 2.40 now, you won’t be able to earn trophies in SSDHD unless you got the 4.00 update for it before that was also taken down.
sucks, i know. i’ve had it since tuesday and it was fun. while it lasted that is. only one game with trophy support and i can’t even get the final trophy because of an add-on thats not even available for purchase. unless you bought that before it was (yet again) taken from the servers. so, while you want 2.40 for the awesome features the videos have shown you, you’re not gonna get it.

TheVesra, that’s true for now, but I got the add on right after the update.
I had SSHD since January of this year and all the other add ons and loved the game, so purchased it as soon as I saw it on the game.
I think it was 5.99 but it’s worth the money…adds Split screen play, you can change the look of your ship and a few other things come with it.
Nice job Echo. Wish you were around earlier today! Better late than never. I would suggest the rest of you give it a try. I have the standard 40 gb with the original hdd and everything is running smoothly. Follow the steps echo laid out and you’ll be straight.
@1801 – Thank you for your reply. I will have a look see. This might be a possible solution. I still would like to see Sony incorporate it though. Streaming just doesn’t give the same quality as if it were on the PS3’s hard drive.
I am glad the link I gave is working out for everyone. We can’t really use the new update until it’s developed into games, but at least the curiosity will subside…haha

well i hav it and i got some problems, game freezes and controller turns off to randomly, hope this isnt a stay problem and one that cant be fixed =/

This is the last in-game music related post i want to do so listen.
1. In the video demo he said this is a concept of what they are trying to do. It might not be the same once we deliver it.. we are laying the ground down for it (or something like that) meaning what they showed was never really how they were going to release it.
2. Microsoft… the people who brought you windows.. the zune… and the X box brand (*wispher* the competition) patented it and will definitely sue Sony for putting in the in-game music how you want it. That’s why Sony has the let developers put it in. So if you want Sony to have gotten sued for putting it in, then released an update to take it out and then people would be like “Sony is so stupid….they think they wouldn’t get caught…ha ha ha…” then go buy or play a 360.
3 If you want it your way right now and stuff…. buy a MP3 and use it while playing a game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok I see, yep you’re right….not ALL games have it available.
But 3 do so far and they had it before the 2.40 patch came out.
Sony had it out and if you didn’t try it, you didn’t know about it.
Kind of like Easter eggs on the DVDs.

us “whiners” are pissed because we were promised something and waited patiently, but instead, got nothing! Nobody told Sony to release the update without fixing the problems and including what we asked for. We shouldn’t be content that Sony gave us something. If that were the case then why have this blog and why not keep the PS3 exactly as it was when it came out? Cause when we bought it we were expecting the same, if not more, from Sony PS! If we never “whined” in the first place, this would be update 1.0!!! Now, I realize some of the “whining” is absurd, but most of it is just asking to do what the 360 does, not better. And they are in the market to compete with MS so, don’t tell us to go buy a 360. The reason we stay with Sony is cause we believe in their products and have for years, even decades! We just want what we know they can do. If Jeff was able to post a weekly recap on the blog today, then he could of posted a status on the update fix. But most likely, everyone is off until Monday. So, let’s just hope this gets fixed and they deliver what we’ve been waiting for and what we deserve!

Could be a small thing or because only some PS3s are affected it’s harder to solve.

We could have some more space on our ps3 if they take out the friends list because if you see someone online on a game and you want to get to know them how about you just call them! or email them! text even!
They could take out the clock! Because everyone should know the time or have the time on their arm or on the wall!
Instead of the having a photo section why dont they just take that out because everyone can look at pictures when they take them on a camera!

Well I have been experiancing a few problems and I have the firmware update installed. I sometimes now durring game play experiance issues with the controls. Ill try to go somewhere and it will start glitching and i cant fix it. It happens a lot when I play cod4 and It didnt used to before I got the install. I bought pixel junk so I could get the trophys or whatever and it says nothing when I go to my trophy case….its weird.
Ok one more and then it’s off to bed.

Only problems I get with 2.40 is that when at sometimes i am about to send a message to someone then the screen will freeze right at when the lines show up causing me to have to restart ps3. I can sign into this blog or my browser will freeze also causing me to restart my ps3.
My PS3 never froze before 2.40. Its screaming “….help” and im like “sorry…theres…..nothing i ….. can……its just……i…….Sony….. (walks of into the sunset)

my PS3 does not detect Blu-ray drive anymore after intaling the latest GTA IV update. i already have 2.4 and everything was running fine until i decided to play GTA. Do i wait for 2.4 (improved ver) again or give it for servicing? and damn.. i live in India! What do i do guys. Right now i’m resetting ps3 settings (the longer one – will take 3.4 hours). Am i the only one with this problem?

Installed the 2.40 firmware succesfully and the ps3 is working fine EXCEPT for audio CD’s.
When I insert an Audio CD it doesn’t show up. I tried some audio cd’s, they never show up. If I insert a game after that, it doesn’t show up either. Then I shut the ps3 down but then he shuts down with 2 beeps.
DVD’s and games work fine only when I insert an Audio CD he starts to flip :s
This never occurred before the 2.40 update! Is anyone else experiencing this too?
