As has been reported on many gaming blogs and websites, we have temporarily taken Firmware v2.40 offline. We’ve received a limited number of calls from consumers experiencing an issue with installing the system software update on their PS3. While our consumer services department has seen a low volume of calls on this topic, we are committed to providing the PS3 community with XMB access features delivered in the v2.40 update. We are working diligently to isolate the problem for those few consumers and to identify a solution before we put the firmware back up.
We’ll provide further information as necessary here on the Blog.
@1246 where the hell do you see this on the PS offical site? Because im there and I see no such info…???
My guess is they postponed the updated on ps store until they work the bugs out of 2.4. My 60 gb launch PS3 is working fine with 2.40.
look harder
skittles are tasty, especially the carnival- themed one
cotton candy skittle= awesome

I’m with you. I don’t want somebody talking in my ear unless we’re playing the same game online and it’s required. But that’s just me! Just don’t want somebody distracting me during an important part of a game, or story building cut scene, etc;
Being able to get messages in game is good enough for me.
I noticed the XMB was loading a little slow from in-game, but sometimes I notice that when I just exit a game or just turn it on. I often wondered what that was about, but it never really bugged me that much.
9 Trophies in SSHD so far, and I was close to another before work today. I think it says I’m at 36%.
11 trophys! i just hit level 2
I got Rock Band for My birthday the other day… and my PS2 will not play it. xD I gotta send it back to sony first
phuck trophies!! level 1 4life!! woot! woot! lol…
@1253
i tried the skittles carnival gum the other day, that stuff was great. ;D

@IP
i’ve had it since day one, no problems to mention. aside from a laggy ingame xmb.
Thanks Versa. Slower than shiiiiii… You know. I guess I should keep it PG-13 for the kiddies, but most of the kiddies already cuss like a sailor.

Here is my question… if I already downloaded 2.40, will i be able to download the new version when its out, to be sure that my ps3 wont break??
I would imagine they would make it a 2.41 update so everyone can install it
@IP
i became a qore subscriber day one. figured what the heck, it may be worth it. plus i got a neat free game with it. i don’t really play it all that much, but free is free. :)

to eric lempel this firmware(2.4) has made my ps3 fans runs louder than normal when playing a dvd, could u please look in to this? thanks
@1269
thats been out since last week buddy
A note for future firmware updates.
There is no way to do a backup of your savegames, in order to minimize problems when something ugly happens (like with the last update).
Yes, we have the full backup-restore system, but when you fill 30 or 40 Gb (with installations, patches, some demos, games from PSN, videos…) there is no quick way to backup-restore the savegames.
All the other information is not so important. We can reinstall the games, redownload the patches, and so), but we really need to backup savegames in a regular basis (and the profiles, also).
If we had an option: backup savegames – restore savegames, we could save the really important information with a regular basis. Once a week, or two weeks, we could backup the savegames in any pendrive (the savegames will be only a few Mb).
Thanks
I’m getting tired of waiting for a fix to this (not that I’m really going to do anything about it). An official update of some kind with regards to 2.40 would be nice, so we can at least get some facts straight, a time line on when to expect it back up, etc.
“When they fix 2.40 we can all do the dance of happiness.”
:D
true!
Having the developers patch in the trophy system is all well and good, it should be on them to do it because they will see a boost to their sales as people choose to get the newly patched titles rather than games that don’t have trophy support ala SSHD’s newfound popularity due to being the only current game with trophy support. However, custom soundtrack should not be left to the developer, this should look more like the version you demoed in the first 2.4 walkthrough video. We should just be able to turn the game volume down on pixeljunk monsters and then play our music stored on the harddrive over it like you did in the demo video. I don’t understand why you would leave this to the developer. If they want to patch it in to the game menu like how Pain and other current games has it, fine, but for those who don’t a universal custom soundtrack solution would be better. Just implement the system from the walkthrough.
BTW, 2.4 is working flawlessly for me, can’t wait for phase 2 and three, give us cross game chat and in game web browsing.
the firmware update on my ps3 has just started to destruct. every time i choose to turn off the system it changes to the screen were remote play is activated. so i have to turn off the system twice, and now i have to re-register my psp for remote play to work again. im sure a patch will be coming soon…i hope.
We want the firmware fixed!
We want the firmware fixed!
We want the firmware fixed!
We want the firmware fixed!
and please add a decent in-game sound track…
please!!!
:(
i have more info on my issue, the fans seems to kick in to high gear when i play dvds-9. but apart from that everything seems to run ok
thanks
Saw someone mention Qore (July edition)…if you purchased the annual subscription, just go to the Playstation store….go to your download list and you’ll have the July edition there to download. I thought we needed to get it from the store, but I guess with the annual subscription they just post to your download list which saves us a bit of time. I agree with the other person to, I like the magazine…
OMG!!!!! is it still not fixed and online again? HOW LONG ARE WE GOING TO HAVE TO WAIT???? At the very least could you please let us know how much longer something please!!!
i dont usually leave comments but this update sucks.
1.)You cant even listen to music while you play (which was the main thing i walloking forward too.)
2.)That trophy crap doesnt even work with most games i currently own.
3.)What is the point of having an in game XMB when most of the important stuff requires you to quite the game.
This update means nothing to me. i hope you see this Eric.
I can’t believe some of these people still saying they’re trying their games and can’t find the trophies.
If you read up on 2.4…you’d have known that they stated it’s only in Super Stardust HD for now.
It’s not Sony, it’s up to the developers of each game to include this stuff….so start up on the developers.
There’s a demo of Super Stardust HD available and when Sony does fix the 2.4 problem, you may want to download the demo and see if the trophies are there.
I’m not sure they’re in the demo version as I’ve got the full version…but hey, for free why not give it a shot.
Works great for me and I’ve seen many others that have played the game and are loving the trophies….saying it makes it worthwhile to play again.
I didnt just buy Stardust not to get trophies. RELEASE THE PATCH ALREADY!
The trophies do make SSHD worthwile playing again, and in fact I can’t wait for them to be patched into Uncharted. Heavenly Sword would also be great. Hopefully Insomniac will patch Ratchet and Clank and Resistance 1 after Resistance 2 has come out. MGS4 would be great and trophies confirmed for the new SOCOM will definitely aid in that addiction starting up again full strength. But the in game music needs a universal solution, don’t want to wait for the developer for a in game music patch that may never come, I want to start up Motorstorm and turn down the in game volume and play my own music over the top with the sound effects still on. I mean, evolution studios is busy working on Motorstorm 2, I don’t see them offering a in game music patch, so come on Sony, give us the version you demoed on the first 2.4 walkthrough.
If you updated and did not have a problem will you have to downlaod a new update that has a patch or will you be alright?

AGREED!
I wonder if Devil May Cry 4 will add trophies?
Zeo…..in Super Stardust HD…I CAN listen to the music I select from my HDD….there’s an Option feature in the game for Audio….and you set that to custom and then pick what you want to listen to….
Seriously though Sony, you guys are great for listening to us…but half way I support yall through thick and thin, but dont tell us we are getting one thing to tell us we are to have to wait even more to use it, I understand patches for trophies but we have maybe 3 or 4 games KNOWN to sometime SOON to get patched for them, I mean either give us more DISC based games that we had thrown our money at so we can enjoy trophies more or Universal in-game music, cause either way with this firmware WE STILL HAVE TO WAIT….come on guys we have been pullin for yall a long time….
Actually in Super Stardust HD…the custom feature was there before the 2.4 patch.
Remember guys…it’s the developers and not really Sony that have to support trophies and in game music….get on their backs.
Kinda pointless……the only thing that is going to catch their attention is the fact that SSDHD is up’ing sales cause of trophies (money of course) and they will think about some of their older games to add them on maybe down the line and will really add them to new games………..otherwise we push them enough they might be going exclusive for “the other guys”
If I rolled out software that took down a client’s system, I’m pretty sure I’d be cleaning out my desk. What are you people, incompetent?
That blows =/
@GGCAN
Sony can make it mandatory for trophies and in-game music, it’s up to Sony for that. Come on, this update is useless other than the trophies and incy bincy in-game support. Get it right for once Sony, lol.
