As has been reported on many gaming blogs and websites, we have temporarily taken Firmware v2.40 offline. We’ve received a limited number of calls from consumers experiencing an issue with installing the system software update on their PS3. While our consumer services department has seen a low volume of calls on this topic, we are committed to providing the PS3 community with XMB access features delivered in the v2.40 update. We are working diligently to isolate the problem for those few consumers and to identify a solution before we put the firmware back up.
We’ll provide further information as necessary here on the Blog.
Hey I just read that I have to defragmentate my HDD and after I click Yes its says that a problem occured and I have to format my HDD, so if do that i’ll loose all of my saves, can I do something to prevent me from loosing my saves?

It depends on what games really. For racing games and stuff like GTA, custom soundtracks should be mandatory.

I installed it yesterday on my launch 60GB and no problems at all. Another GREAT firmware by Sony! Thank you Sony! I think all these people saying its breaking their systems are just 360 fanboys making it up.

i called this mess yesterday. i knew the store would be delayed yet again this week, due mainly in part to the update being taken down. i want my qore, i paid for the year, now give me the next issue. its ashame some users did dumb things when they had issues and forked their ps3’s, but the rest of us (those that have and those that don’t have 2.40 yet working ps3’s) must now suffer due to the incompetence of the moron users. thanks dopes for screwing up your ps3’s by unplugging or using the back switch to turn your systems off effectivly bricking them.
Where can I download it? I’m @ work but I want to grab it now in case it dissapears again.

You have an opportunity to do something awesome for your users and screw it up. Way to go. As a lifelong PS fan I am very disappointed.
Even people who have been able to download 2.4 successfully say that in-game XMB is way too laggy, and WOW 1 whole game to get trophies for.

Sony came through I have a 60 gig playstation 3 and it totally bricked after firmware 2.40. I called Sony and am getting my baby fixed for free.This is why I’m a Sony fan boy that’s right I said it.Keep up the good work Sony.

Guys I cant see the update either, I am in the middle east so probably I am on a European server but I need that update quickly why cant I find it?

We still want cross-game chat & invites threw all PS3 games. Also, low power standby mode for the PS3 so we can finish downloads & charge controllers. When its done, the PS3 can be set to automatically shutdown.
Good lookin’ out for the people who didn’t get the FW 2.40. I downloaded it at 2:05 a.m. on Wednesday and I’m loving it!!! Looking forward to phase 2 & 3. Nice job!!!
