Firmware v2.40 status

2,454 0

As has been reported on many gaming blogs and websites, we have temporarily taken Firmware v2.40 offline. We’ve received a limited number of calls from consumers experiencing an issue with installing the system software update on their PS3. While our consumer services department has seen a low volume of calls on this topic, we are committed to providing the PS3 community with XMB access features delivered in the v2.40 update. We are working diligently to isolate the problem for those few consumers and to identify a solution before we put the firmware back up.

We’ll provide further information as necessary here on the Blog.

  • Sony…

I’ll support you this round in the next gen race… BUT you have made me rethink whether you’re the company I’m going to stick with in the future. I AM DEFINITELY WAITING LONGER WHEN AND IF THE PS4 COMES OUT AND I MIGHT JUST GO WITH MICROSOFT… You have showed me and many loyal sony/playstation fans that you can’t get your act together. I just feel sorry for your company and for those loyal customers who believed in you.

    =[

  • I have some friends who couldn’t download it.

Lucky we. I woke up 6:00AM (GMT -3:00) just to download it and I could do that. Its working properly for me. My friend tried to download at 10:15AM (GMT -3:00) ad he couldn’t. I laughed at him lol.

And I get the same error “An error has occured (8071040C)” when I try to see m PSN mates’ trophies.

  • 2.40 works perfectly for me. Thanks Sony.

  • My 2.40 Update works just fine for me! :D

Hope everything is ok for everyone else :D

  • Jeff, Patrick, anyone…

Any idea on how long this fix is going to take? It would be nice if you could update us on the progress you are making.

  • Well, sony let me say that with problems aside and all of that, 2.40 is great. The trophy system is addicitive and like every other site is saying, the leveling up is amazing for us rpg lovers. It’s bad seeing how people need perfection from the beginning but good luck with that. By the way you guys should celebrate over 1000 comments.

  • Also, I would like to know which games can currently support the trophies and the background music features.

Super Stardust HD supports background music but it’s an option of the game. Like, you don’t press the PS button and choose the song, you have to go to Options/Audio Options/Soundtrack -> Custom. Then you choose the songs.

I tried getting a trophy at Super Stardust HD Demo (‘The Tokenizer’, which consists of getting 5 tokens with a single boost) and I couldn’t. I think trophies don’t work in demos, do they?

    Thank you again.

If you want to add me on PSN, choose one of my IDs (I recommend the first one):
    US – Tatazildo
    Japan – TatazildoJP
    Australia – TatazildoAU
    Europe (Portugal) – TatazildoEU

  • I agree with lordofdarkflames. this “shouting” match is laughable but at the same time very pathetic. 2.40 had some issues. They are taking care of it, problems happen that sometimes are unforeseen.

@929, You do release that your #3 issue is about all you can do with the dashboard while in game with the box right?….Minus the music.

Speaking of which….are we really getting that upset about in game music? It might be because I’m older but I have been gaming since Atari/C64 days and somehow I survived not having the ability to play the Golden Girls theme song over my First Person Shooter.

haha ironically a friend of mine saw me type this post and he chimed in with “Back in my day in game music was a Mexican fellow named Pablo that would play the xylophone. The only song he knew was “row row row your boat” but man could he play that song”

  • I had BF/Bad Company lock up on my last night during online play so bad that i had to power off the PS3. Is this related? I just install 2.4 two days ago…

  • Update 2.40 is working fine for me. Took a total of seven to eight minutes to download and install. I like the clock. And, though I am not hot on trophies, I can see them as beings an advertisement for other players: If they see that I have a trophy for completing a certain task in a certain game, it might entice them to go out and buy the game. Thus, I don’t mind the trophies at all. I want people to buy the games that I think are worth it.

And for those who state that they may not buy Sony products (namely, anothe Playstation) because they are having problems, good for you. I bought the original Playstation and had a blast with it. I liked it so much, that when the PS2 came out, I bought it.One reason for buying the PS2 was because many of the games I enjoyed had sequels on the new console. These are the same reasons I bought a PS3 and will be the reason I buy the next PS system.

Truth be told, if i had more money, I would have all systems. But, as it is, the games i am into are on the Playstation console. So, that is the system I will be sticking with.

Nice update, people. Looking foreward to more. My personal choice.

  • @Tatazildo:

    Here you go:

    http://kotaku.com/397437/list-of-first-ps3-trophy-supported-games

Only Stardust at the moment. Burnout Paradise will also have additional trophies and if I’m not mistaken Uncharted as well. Anyone correct me if I’m wrong.

  • @ 1011 djwhiplash
Sadly no , its not related, it happened to me several times (and i have 2.36) even EA know this issue (its a server side issue)

  • I hope its up again tonight.

Any word on when Sony will update there FAAACKING BLOG……about there newest update??? Or are they going to let flamers, 360 fanboys and conspiracy nuts ramble on about nonsense?

  • Well I already downloaded the update as soon as it came out, I loved it till I found out that some of my BD movies were not playing on my PS3! I tried watching V for Vendetta, and it started to jump from scene to scene and barely responding to my control commands. After I quit the movie I wanted to navigate through the XMB to check some settings, then I realized that my PS3 was frozen! However, I didn’t find any problems while playing games!

  • So when can we get the 2.41?

  • InflamedProstate

Well currently I have 2.4 on USB do I dare roll the dice and get a boat anchor or a flawless install. Hmm…….. Any one know if they can or are blocking any further 2.4 FW installs since taking it down?

  • they can’t block, and it should be fine if the file in not corrupt

  • I’ve always had a good relationship with Sony. I own and use many of their electronic products. If i were ever to complain about anything, it would be privately and in a constructive way. The purpose of such a complaint would not be to upset them be disrespectful towards them. I would want to see the problem resolved in a timely fashion and see that the relationship that we have enjoyed and shared for years will continue on for many more years.

And, I am no “fanboy.” I also have RCA products.

  • InflamedProstate

FYI I googled SONY’s game division earnigs for fiscal 2007 only $8 billion USD projected that is. People think they are hanging on a thread? That may be but I am not convinced.

  • InflamedProstate

Thanks Hunter for the tip! Just might do that when I get home then.

  • Wow . . . this thread seems to have gotten totally out of control. 21 pages? From the looks of it, most of them seems to be random arguing. Couldn’t you guys do that through AIM or something, rather than 21 pages of useless-to-everyone-else arguing?

    Just a thought.

  • @1018 InflamedProstrate

lol. I get the image of you and Mortal Kombat from your post.

InflamedProstrate wins…. Flawless Install. No fatality.

  • glad mine is working fine :-) hope this gets fixed siin for the rest of the people ^_^
    Proud owner of a launch day 60g PS3 ;-)

  • “Man talk about letting the PS3 customers baste in there Juices. Info on what is going on with update would be greatly appreciated.”

Dude, it hasn’t even been 24 hours since Patrick made this post, and we’re headed into a holiday weekend. Relax.

  • InflamedProstate

Seafea just trying to melow out the mob they got going on here. A little laughing never hurts anyone… unless your a pigmy in a wood chipper? Well that may not be funny but oh well.

  • InflamedProstate

EvoA I am not hurting to get the update just curious what they will say that’s all. Sad but true I don’t even have a use for the update yet.

  • I haven’t had any problems at all with my update, and i’ve played the heck outta Stardust. I feel sorry for the people that didn’t get it right away, but i’m sure Sony is doing everything they can to get it back up for download. Please add me to your PS3 friendlist so I can compare trophies! You guys rule :D

  • @1018:

Any chance you can place that update somewhere for a download? I’ll take my chances with it… can’t wait much longer for this!!!!!! i want my update!!!!!

  • Correction on above post, @1019…

any chance you can post it somewhere on web for download?

  • InflamedProstate | July 3rd, 2008 at 1:17 pm

Well currently I have 2.4 on USB do I dare roll the dice and get a boat anchor or a flawless install. Hmm…….. Any one know if they can or are blocking any further 2.4 FW installs since taking it down?

    _____________________________________________

Better wait for the update is my advice. I assume it wont take too long to accomplish that.

  • Mines working fine just please get the patches up faster I’m getting a lil’ SSDHD’d out at the moment (42% of the trophies woot)

  • Just dropping a quick note that 2.4 is working great for me. Little laggy bringing up the xmb in game, but I was expecting that watching the video. I’ll be working on getting as many trophys in Super Stardust as I can this weekend.

  • Ok, fair enough.

Well, MGS4 ain’t gonna play itself. Be cool, all, and Happy 4th of July weekend.

  • Someone said it’ll be back up on Monday… but at this rate, 4 more days without it is killing me!

  • Being that this post hast gotten over 1000 comments I doubt that this comment will be noticed by Sony. Anyway, #1 I am sorry to hear about everyone who is having problems with FW 2.40. I was one of the lucky ones, so I’m fine. #2 When a message is recieved from a friend, unless I’m looking at the screen at the time, or I decide to check and see by chance if I did get a message I would never know that I did get a message. How about a sound that plays when a message is recieved and a notification icon that displays onscreen in the XMB (not just under the friends list but all through out the XMB)until the message is read.

  • It could’ve been because of the demand, people wanted it so much maybe they wanted to get it out ASAP so maybe that could be one of the problems. :(

  • such awesomness over a thousand responses

  • Well the day is almost over and the 4th is tomarrow :(. Looks like I wont see anything till sometime next week…sigh.

  • I’m with Nynja. Can anyone who has the update please upload it somewhere? I’m been scrounging the net and this doesn’t seem to be too widesrpead. I’m willing to take my chances.

  • From#1039, RasMoses: “When a message is recieved from a friend, unless I’m looking at the screen at the time, or I decide to check and see by chance if I did get a message I would never know that I did get a message. How about a sound that plays when a message is recieved and a notification icon that displays onscreen in the XMB (not just under the friends list but all through out the XMB)until the message is read.”

Now, that is a GREAT idea. I hope that they will see your post.

  • Haven’t heard of anyone having an issue myself, better safe than sorry though.

  • SONY packed their suitcases, offices are empty, tomorrow is independence day and since they don’t know how to fix the firmware tragedy and they don’t have anything besides videos for today’s update, they decided to deal with all those problems next week, the only thing in their minds right now is to flip some burgers over the weekend and to light some fireworks tomorrow.

  • Thank God I was up the night the firmware was originally released cause I downloaded it right away and it has been working flawlessly. I’m working on those SSHD trophies now. Hopefully we’ll get cross game voice chat as well as more soundtrack/trophy patches soon. Developers, if you’re listening, do you see what trophies has done for SSHD? It has moved that game back to the front of the line in titles people want to play so we can earn trophies. Get on the ball and get those soundtrack and trophy patches out there, if you want to boost your sales that is. Good job SSHD, you guys deserve the sales increase from the trophies you implemented. Chop Chop everyone else.

  • be careful what you ask for you just might get it. Some you in here every week day in day out posted about getting FW 2.4 and basically forced SONY’s hand. Now that it’s out and it’s not perfect your all talking about how they should have waited and all this crap. That’s what you get for being some impatient pricks.Good job on listening to the gamers and giving us what we ask for SONY. Even though sometimes it may come off like we are unappreciative. For Pete’s sake the other console never get what they ask for and they still have to pay for what we get for free.

  • Oh Yeah I’m at the top of my friends list with my Trophies, I have 12 and all my friends are bust they butts trying to beat it as we speak I’m at level 2 around 64% (don’t believe me add me to your friends list PSN ID is the same). Reason why I’m so good at this game is because I love the simple old school game play and my sister and I have an on going battle between us to see who can achieve the highest score since this game was first release. I’m not one of the recent adopters SSHD has been at the top of my most played game list for a while
@1048 i agree with you and the Whole SSHD thing. Other companies need to see what a connected community and a competitive spirit with the Trophy system can do for your sales. Even if it’s not a new Title.

  • Hey Mine still works after the update so post what the store is getting and upload it! I want my Naruto DEMO! Qore here I come for Episode 2!

  • I noticed most people are complaining about in game music. Its not that big of a deal and as an 360 owner as well I never use it. It generally takes away from the game, example: the music keeps playing through cutscenes as well as its harder to hear dialog in game. If you need your music that bad turn the in game music off and play it through a home stereo instead of your tv. Oh yeah changing the music is a really bad idea when playing online games like cod4. it makes it `extremely hard to hear people coming from behind you if you have surround sound.
