As has been reported on many gaming blogs and websites, we have temporarily taken Firmware v2.40 offline. We’ve received a limited number of calls from consumers experiencing an issue with installing the system software update on their PS3. While our consumer services department has seen a low volume of calls on this topic, we are committed to providing the PS3 community with XMB access features delivered in the v2.40 update. We are working diligently to isolate the problem for those few consumers and to identify a solution before we put the firmware back up.
We’ll provide further information as necessary here on the Blog.

second- how do you question sony on a patent, IMO they are trying to circumvent it legally by giving the “tools” to the devs. IMO they are probably exploring other options too.
Third, IMO i could care less if they go back and patch for achievements. I’m loooking towards sony’s future. and i believe that achievements will be wider reaching than you say. But each is entitled to his own opinion as long as he/she doesnt try to present it as fact

To davidck….there’s a Settings Time and Date format on the PS3…you may want to try that. As for the battery icon, I haven’t seen it yet, but I’m sure Sony can move the location of the clock in a future update. Also, sondering about the profile you’re speaking about…..if Sony hasn’t shut that down for now until they figure out what the problem is for the users that have a download problem (it may work once everything is back to normal).

Yes, I already stated that before. I made the sugestion that “IF” the patent was real we could usb our IPODS or MP3 players to the ps3 and access it from the device in game.

Anyways, yeah. Vale has a PC dev team, a 360 dev team, and a PS3 dev team. many good developers have separate dev teams within their company. Odds are they made the PC version first then did the PS3 and 360 ones at the same time.

As giving a compliment, I believe you guys deserve that, trophies are amazing :-D I take it back, ITS FUN!! Got 11 trophies already including 1 gold and makes Stardust HD again… highly addictive. I hope Pixeljunk Monsters and Pain for instance will get trophies as soon as you’re able to get the bugs out and help others with their wanted update.

i did download the update and its great. it actually made me purchase stardust to check out some of the trophies and i really, really enjoy it a lot. Very happy with the update thanks Sony.

Microsoft had NO input on the development of those games. They were made by Valve. Not Microsoft. You can’t run 360 code on a PC, and you can’t run PC code on a 360. Steam’s achievements were PORTED to the 360 version.

Valve or gabe doesnt like the architecture of the PS3. Some dislike it, but still give it attention it needs. other developers find little ways to make the PS3 work for them, ie Epic games (UTIII), Infinity Ward, ect, ect. Here comes Gabe saying oh he doesnt want to stress himself out with the architecture. he necessarily didnt say that, but thats what he meant. when he pass the game orange box to EA.
there’s no reason to keep bitching though. There are a lot of games coming out for the PS3 that i am too excited for. I hope we get to see something new and good at E3.
I downloaded 2.40 the other night, and all seems well (60GB PS3). I’m really starting to become annoyed with the XMB overall, though. I never did feel that the XMB was a good interface for a media center-type scenario, even if it did/does work well for PSP.
Over time with the firmware updates, the XMB has taken on a more cluttered, “widgety” look. The Information Board ticker seems more out of place than ever with the new date/time item. And, I think the battery charge indicator (in-game XMB) does compete with the date/time item for screen space.
The most looming issue, is that the XMB is dreadful for browsing through media files–either those stored locally, or those pulled from a local media server–it is WAY too cumbersome to browse through everything. Perhaps a Sony/Apple co-project…iTunes for PS3 would be sweet. In any case, I hope that at some point (firmware 3.0 maybe), the gang at Sony will revamp the PS3 UI to something much cleaner and efficient. A better, polished look to the UI when PS3 boots up would be much better for the brand, I think, than what we have now.

6. For trophies they should have contacted game makers that this feature would be in, in the near future that is so all the games would be ready to go for the Trophy system..
2.40 is USELESS but its only good for In-game friends list messaging but besides ITS STILL USELESS.

yes xmb is a little laggy, wtf you expect , thats like running cod4 and pullingu p startmenu in game its an os in a system with some tweaks thell remove some othe the lag in fact im surprised the bothered to put as much in a possible i expected a cutdown version just with the social and music side of things

since you can upgrade hdds i massuming the os is in a flashchip on the mb and you format and instal it
ps3 is stable for the most part low failure rate becuase sony took there time with all aspects
360 is built from off the shelf composnets again and is flawed . give them a break it will be sorted, the fact they pulled it do to a few complaits rather then ignore them says we care about quality to me

MICROSOFT OWNS GAMES FOR WINDOWS LIVE & THEY OWN XBOX 360. MICROSOFT HAS A UNIFIED ACHIVMENT SYSTEM AND CAN USE THOSE WHERE THEY WANT. THIS IS WHY YOU CAN HAVE ACHIVMENTS IN THOSE GAMES.
Games for windows live and xbox 360 both use achivments cause Microsoft allows it to happen. They own the service!!!!!!!!! Understand this damn!
