Firmware v2.40 FAQ

1,729 0

Hi again! It’s great to see the positive reaction to the unveiling of system software update v2.40. We can’t wait for you to finally go hands-on with XMB access in-game and the Trophy system – and it’s less than 2 days away. Not surprisingly, a number of you have posed questions both here and on other forums. Here are answers to the most frequently asked questions.

Will voice-messaging/private chat be featured in 2.40 as well? If not, can we expect to see this feature added in the future?

We are evaluating the opportunity to offer voice chat, but for this update, we wanted to focus on text messaging as the key priority for communications that our users have asked for.

Can you use the web browser in game?

No, you must exit the game before browsing the internet.

Will In-Game XMB come up during playback of PS2 games, Blu-Ray discs, and DVDs?

The XMB is an exclusive feature for PS3 game titles. Accessing the XMB during gameplay was the top request from our users, which we focused on for this update. However, we continually engage PS3 owners for feedback and will evaluate the opportunity to offer XMB access during movie playback in the future.

Can we go to the display settings and change anything there in-game (resolution, input, etc)?

No, you must exit the game before changing these settings.

Will it be possible to change in-game the sound output?

Yes, sound output changes are supported.

Will we be able to access the PLAYSTATION Store while in-game?

No, but you can view your downloads in progress.

Will we be able to stream music (either via media server or USB drive) for custom soundtracks or is it relegated to music stored on the HDD?

Currently only music stored on the HDD is accessible in games that support this feature. We’d also like to reiterate that Firmware v2.40 merely enables custom soundtracks. It’s up to developers to include this feature in upcoming games (or to patch existing ones).

Does 2.4 enable cross game invites? Will it down the line?

No, cross-game invites are not available in this system software update. We are evaluating opportunities to expand on the new features delivered in 2.40.

Will trophies be mandatory for all games release here on out?

We are working with developers to ensure that Trophies are supported across the board in the future.

Where is each player’s trophy stat info held? I am going to upgrade my hard drive and I don’t know if the trophies will still be on my account if I earn some and then get a new hard drive.

Trophies will be attached to users’ PSN ID. Trophy data needs to be synchronized to the online account on PSN to be transferred to the new PS3 system.

Will the patch automatically allocate unlocked trophies according to your saved files or would you have to do it again?

    No, Trophies aren’t retroactive.

Can we view PSN profiles/Trophies from a PC using a Web browser? Will there be an API for web developers to access the PSN data, so online profiles can be created?

We’re evaluating these opportunities to expand where Trophies can be experienced.

Can you only compare trophies with friends that are online?

As long as a friend has a PSN account, you can compare trophies with them regardless of their online status.

Is there a limit to how many trophies the devs can put set by Sony?

There’s not a limit on number of trophies, but there’s a value assigned to each trophy. Developers must balance out the trophies that are available to stay within an overall value based on whether the game is considered large-scope or small-scope. Essentially, a user that has unlocked every trophy in one game would have the same level as a user that unlocked every trophy in another title, all titles (depending on scope) have the same overall impact on a users’ level.

Will new games have a cool little icon on the back saying “trophy compatible?”

We’re currently working on how Trophy support will be messaged to the consumer on our software packaging.

When you get a trophy, does it make a noise?

Currently, no. How quickly things can change – there *will* be a sound effect when you unlock a Trophy.

    What is Eric’s favorite cheese?

    Mozzarella

Once again, we will continue to evaluate opportunities to enhance the PLAYSTATION 3’s system software throughout the console’s life cycle. Consumer feedback has contributed greatly to the contents of Firmware v2.40, and continues to be appreciated. Don’t forget, this Firmware will be available for download on July 2nd.

    What??

  • well it was fun to look at the clock and the non transparent in game xmb icons I had forgotten how ugly they are since my regular ones are transparent then it was fun to see that I couldn’t play my music during any new games then it was fun shutting off PS3 to watch tv fun half hour of update excitement then I’m like hmm so That’s what all the hype was about Now I understand… err maybe not

  • Update 2.failure!

I’m going to leave you people with 1 sentence & 1 question.

“If you want to preform this function you’ll have to quit the game. Do you want to quit the game?”

    Best update ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I’m certain of 1 thing my PS3 & GTA4, rented from gamefly 2 months ago, will continue to collect more dust because I’m too bored of the GTA4 radio stations to bother putting it in the slot to complete that falchon motorbike mission

  • wait 1 question before u go? Wasn’t um quitting the game to do it exactly what we had to do b4 the 2.4 update?

  • u know wut would be funny? if every american PS3 player all stopped right now buying anything off the PS3 store if everybody stopped online gaming & buying any new games
I wonder if Sony would even notice I wonder if everybody just quit buying any PS3 related stuff for months maybe even a year do u think maybe Sony would finally notice & possibly give in to consumer demand? Na theyd’d probably just focus on the Japanese & global markets it just wouldn’t phase them unless they experienced a massive wordwide boycott & those japs & europeans will probly keep gamin & buyin everything Sony sells bcuz they dont care about not getting full media access from the in game XMB or do they?

  • Beautiful. Just got done playing a little SSHD and looking good so far. That was a long overdue play of SSHD btw. Trophies just gave me a reason to load it up and play it for a bit…

Next thing up. Gamer Pics and games that actually have trophies. And it wouldn’t be bad to be able to see the last time one of our friends was online. I like that feature with the 360.

Obviously you [Sony] only have control over SCEA games but I certainly hope to see Uncharted, MLB 08 The Show, Folklore and many others patched w/ Trophies.

In the meantime it would be REALLY NICE if you could start rolling out some quality gamerpics for our profiles as well. Might be somewhat limited since we wouldn’t have to pay for them [unlike my XBL profile which I broke down and bought NGII pics for] but they could certainly be better and I’d imagine you could at least get a better variety up there as well. Some 4rd parties but not buy into the idea but at least get us some great SCEA gamerpics for our profiles…

Otherwise great job. I look forward to obtaining trophies this Fall/Winter in some of the great games that’ll be rolling out…

  • well but wouldn’t it be cooler to use your real pics? oh but they probably afraid of offensive images so everythings gotta be monitored & censored like Home will be cuz we cant offend the moral majority and unsupervised kids online their parents would get upset & wanna sue the offenders

  • Not sure if some of these people have read the blogs or watched the videos that Sony just put out. Not all games will have in game music that you play from your HDD. Not all games will have trophies. This happens if the developers decide to program them into the game. Super Stardust HD does have the music that I can change to what I have loaded on my HDD. As well, Super Stardust is showing me the Trophies and now that I see how they were designed, I can honesty say there are so many different category trophies (for Super Stardust HD anyways) that this may be another reason each game and the game developers have to think about what type of trophies to give out. I love the update so far by the way Sony and can see future updates providing us with much more gadgets to access from the XMB bar. Keep up the good work.

  • ya hopefully we will get more icons to choose from like shots of toenail clippings & maybe checkered underwear no see I’m already too inappropriate for Ninte er I mean sony’s G rated environmental standards

  • Ya props to SSHD blazin the lonely trail word up

  • TheGuardian1973

I LOVE THE UPDATE, I’M UPDATING SSHD TO SEE IF I CAN RACK UP SOME TROPHIES!!! :D THANK YOU SONY FOR ALL YOUR WORK AND DEDICATION, GREAT JOB!!! :D

  • Maybe SSHD will get some kind of game of the year award since it’s the 1st to include the new xmb features I’d vote for it I think it deserves to win just for that

  • Not to offend you NetheRealm, but from reading some of your posts, you obviously haven’t even read the PS3 manual…you’re saying your clock is wrong…did you set it up on the Settings panel ? You may want to read a few more of Sony’s articles too before saying stuff you haven’t read yet.

  • TheGuardian1973

NOW NOW BE NICE!!! :P :D

  • Metal Gear Solid 4
    Grand Theft Auto IV
    Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
    Top Spin 3 (demo)
    NCAA Football 09 (demo)

NOTHING works with XMB in game music!!!

So, how long do we need to wait for a patch for all the developers?

I mean, one question, and please an honest answer

Can we expect to see patches for in game music for Metal Gear Solid, GTA IV, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue… and other popular titles???

What about old games, like Virtua Fighter, Ninja Gaiden Sigma… I bet those producers are already working on other titles so who cares about creating a patch for those games.

I hope I can see some in-game music within a month. If not, then I guess future games (3-6 months from now), will fully support XMB

What about games that are in the late stage of development? Madden NFL 09… I guess those will not support XMB out of the box right?

And maybe these companies have some shady contract with Microsoft that forbids them to create their game with in game music for other consoles, who know how many gazillion points the contract between Microsoft and their game developers read.

    I’m disapointed with firmware 2.40

    Nice initiative though

  • I said I had 4gotten to switch it to daylight savings time I didnt realize you had to do that even when updating it from the internet. But ya who the hell reads user mauals?

  • Thanks for the update Sony. I just scored three trophies on SSHD, so keep the updates coming. I hope patches for other games come out quick.

  • @ gamingaccess

not certain but I don’t think any actual sony reps answer posters personal questions here only interviews with the site operators

  • I wasn’t going to post anymore, but see some comments of people expecting things with 2.40 that Sony already defined.
Here’s a quote from the previous blog to this one:

“Super Stardust HD, a PLAYSTATION Network-exclusive released in June 2007, will be the first game to leverage Trophies and will offer a variety of trophies. Trophy support in Super Stardust HD will be available for first-time users who purchase the game soon after firmware v2.40 is released, while those who previously purchased and downloaded the title will be prompted to install a free patch.

PS3 users can expect to see additional games bringing Trophies support to their feature sets through 2008 and beyond, providing even greater opportunity to showcase their accomplishments and compete with friends. The following first-party games are also slated to offer Trophy support:

    BUZZ! Quiz TV
    LittleBigPlanet
    MotorStorm Pacific Rift
    NBA 09 – PS3
    PAIN
    PixelJunk Eden
    Resistance 2
    SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation
    Warhawk ”

Take a look at the previous Sony PS3 blog and you’ll get more details.

I like what I see in 2.40 and like I stated before more is to come with future updates.

  • Great update Sony! But, I know that people, and myself are still not satisfied. Sony please put in-game chat, game invites, chat messages, video messages, in-game web, and continue with the patches for games for in-game music and all of these. I know it’s alot of things, but these features would DOMINATE any console out there, and Surpass the Xbox Live! So please Sony include these features with the in-game xmb!!!

P.S. Eric or Jeff please respond to my comment and think about adding these features!!! Keep up the work guys! =)

  • Yeah I think everybody really loves the update thanks again Sony except for a few people who think it was a total piece of crap. Can’t win em all can’t please evrybody some of the people bla bla yadayadayada

  • PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ :

Okay when i press the PS button to look at the time, it is covered by the controller battery life!! i then have to wait 1 second for it to disapear… please move the battery life meter a little to the left….

  • is your battery low?

  • ya that 1 second of not being able to read the clock bcuz the battery indicator is in the way is enuff 2 drive anybody insane

  • just got the update, not really that impressed the only thing i have done is text message one of my friends whilst playing gta iv online, i so want ingame music ! why is this done to me, ive waited well weve all waited this long for the update come on sony you could of done this.

  • well im playing ONLINE in a damn game and i want to check the damn time before i get killed! its a small problem and a quick 10 minute code fix can do it. !

  • S0UTHERN_C0MF0RT

Thanks for the answered questions, guys. I’m ecstatic about Firmware 2.40! It’s so helpful and useful. Thank you for giving us this, Sony :unworthy:

This is the reason that I think Sony is more consumerr-friendly than Nintendo and Microsoft. You actually listen to your consumers’ opinions and feedback and provide us with greater control of the PSNs’ capabilities.

If I had one request, I would like for players to be able to “cross-chat” like on Xbox LIVE – talk to each other, no matter what we’re doing, whether it be browsing the Internet or playing Warhawk. That would be very cool, fun, and marketable. Yes, I’m interested in business administration and marketing, and I hope to work for Sony someday. Thanks again, Sony! You rock!

  • I don’t know if this is the place for it or not, but I already have the update and this is my opinion. Sorry if this doesn’t belong here.

All right! Now we have in game XMB. If only the personal music worked in any game at all. I have Uncharted, GTA4, and MGS4 and none work.

I guess the rest is cool, but in game music support is weak. WTF “this game is not supported”. For shame Sony for shame.

    Heh heh heh

  • This ruined the whole update!!!

    P.S.

    Sorry for the Double Post

  • i live in the uk and woke up at 4.30am and downloaded the update.. i played gta iv and i couldnt play no music and i also completed 100 percent and i have no tropys .. ive been waiting for this update for 2 years and i am a bit dissapointed.. plzzzz just make gta iv have trophies and custom soundtracks

  • If I am correct, you will only be able to play your personal music if the game publisher’s have given you that option in the game. New games will have that option. Older games may have a downloadable patch.

As for the battery display and the time/calander overlap, don’t let your battery get so low that it happens. I have never seen this displayed as my controller is almost always fully charged.

The update looks good. Just fooled around with it before work. Having the SEARCH feature is appreciated as I had previously had Google as my home page. Now, I can set my favorite website as my home page.

Thanks Team Sony for a wonderful update. Looking foreward to more.

  • i am not very happy at all this is quite funny ok right, no game si have work with ingame music but i tried it on hugh velocity bowling and that wont work ! lol but if you press select it does, what the hell lol this is stupid ugh

    MAKE IT UNIVERSAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hi sony any chance you guys could bring out an update for ps3 40GB’s to play PS2 games because i want to get rid of my PS2 thats my no.1 update

  • Yea my controller was low in battery, i thought it was just ALWAYS overlapping. now that i know , ill always charge up =) .

but QUESTION. what noise does it make after you get a trophy? just wondering…=)

  • i love this update but i want in game music

  • First I want to thank you all for the wonderful updates that exponentially increase the functionality and overall worth of the PS3. Kudos for taking the time out to listen to the consumers and implement what they want.

Secondly, however, I want to also criticize you for implementing what the consumers want. I know this may sound diametrically opposed to my first comment but hear me out…

The only reason people wanted the features of in-game XMB was because the Xbox 360 has it. What they don’t understand is that Microsoft had YEARS of planning to implement it in their console PRIOR TO PRODUCTION OF THE CONSOLE. What you all have done with Update 2.40 is an AFTERTHOUGHT and those who’ve experienced the intuitive interface of the Xbox 360’s dashboard WILL NEVER BE SATISFIED with this or future updates and upgrades to this firmware. And it is not your fault… However, I will say that you shouldn’t have tried to COPY what the 360 had in the first place.

Be innovative and original, which Home is… focus on that. As I understand it, Home was going to incorporate many of the functions that this 2,40 update has. You all should have focused on Home instead of listening to crying Xbox 360 fanboys and those who feel they’re “missing out on features that should have been there from the start.” WHY should they have been there from the start? Because the Xbox 360 had them first… no other reason.

Mark my words: EVERYONE WILL NOT BE SATISFIED with this update and future ones. IT WILL NEVER MEASURE UP TO XBL’S DASHBOARD. But do I care? No. I gave away my 360 to my little cousin… I don’t feel I need those features that everyone’s crying about! They were unique and innovative for the Xbox 360. The PS3 has it’s own uniqueness… leave it at that and don’t try to imitate or copy what the other console has. It will NEVER be as good! Had Sony thought of this before prodcution like the 360 did, it would be more intergrated and smoothly operational, i.e., intuitive. But it will never measure up to what people are used to on the 360. And even if it did… people will always want something MORE and COMPLAIN about what it doesn’t have!

So, Sony… kudos for opening up a can of worms you won’t be able to close!

  • @1425

LMAO! That makes sense I never thought of that lol. They could always move it to the lower left hand corner (the battery info).

Oh by the way since I was bored, here is a list I came up with the supporting titles and what happens when you press start on them:

    =========================================

Pressing the PS button automatically brings up the pause/start screen in the game. (just like pressing start, then the ps button)

    Motorstorm
    Call of Duty 4
    Resistance: Fall of Man

Pressing the PS button does not pause the game in any way. (as if the button was not pressed)

    The Darkness
    Rainbow Six Vegas
    The Orange Box (Portal/HL2/Ep1/Ep2)

Pressing the PS button pauses the game, though it doesn’t showing the games start or pause screen. (unlike Motorstorm or CoD4)

    Spider-Man 3
    Heavenly Sword
    Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2

Pressing the PS button blacks out the background screen (not showing the game), while still playing the sound effects and music, but pauses the game.

    Skate
    Oblivion

Pressing the PS button pauses the game and still plays the soundtracks/game music (like Skate or Oblvion), though the screen is not blacked out (unlike Skate or Oblvion) and is paused without showing a pause/start screen (like in Spiderman 3 or Heavenly Sword)

    Lair
    Ratchet & Clank Future: ToD

Pressing the PS button pauses the game completely (unlike Skate or Oblivion), and shows a black screen in the background (like Skate or Oblivion).

    Rock Band

    – Pressing the PS button does not brings up the XMB, but the old system options screen.

    Need for Speed Carbon

    =========================================

Well that’s my list, currently I am out of country so i still dont have a ton of games like MGS4, GTA IV, Burnout, etc etc.

  • Well my only complain (aside from music) is the new messaging system. I don’t like pressing Triangle then ‘Messages’. It used to be quick and easy .. X button .

No one has trophies and pressing X just gives you an empty loading profile.. it should be shown in the menu after pressing triangle .

  • Get BurnOut ASAP its a fun game that is getting a whole lot better with the latest patch that drops on the 10th of july guess what you can drive custom soundtrack & its going 1081 HD & cool new modes like Road Rage multiplayer 70 new challenges new multiplayer stunt challenges & a bunch of other stuff plus in future patches they gona add motorcycles & nighttime driving & racing its gonna look sweet & make what was already the funnest online multiplayer racing game unless you’re way into that super hard GRID get Burnout & play now it’s gonna be better than ever.

  • SSHD players already got a bunch of trophies

  • @ SpLinT (1437)

I agree bro, they should have an icon on the top of the message list, clicking it views that persons profile. Like a profile icon, how ever they want it to look like. Just so it can be easier to view both profiles AND messages.

ALSO, here is a (crappy) image I made of how I think the music shortcut controller should be, instead of how it is now. Right now I can’t even pause the song/fast forward it!

They already have a great options menu for music, WHY create another one? Honestly?

    i26.tinypic.com/er0mkk.png

    What do you think?

  • IMPORTANT!

(Sorry for bad English, but i hope you understand me)

I do a theme to my Playstation 3 system, but now after the 2.40 update the “Trophy icon”, the “Shutdown the system” and the “internet serch” a “?” Icon, same as the “online help”

So, whats the name of this 3 icons?

ex. the user raw look like this:

It’s the “Icon ID” fore those 3 icons i want.

    Hope you can help!

  • @ 1441

I think they will release an updated version of the theme maker, which will include the files and whatnot for the new icons (turn off console, music player control, google search, and trophies).

Noel will probably update us on that, so just keep checking back at the blog for info I guess.

  • What do you mean there is no ingame music? You took 2 goddamn years to include a frigging clock..for jesus’ mother sake, a CLOCK! what is this making us wait for developer patches to be able to listen to music..just give us ingame music, ingame playstation store and fix the disc-reading issue that kills all playstation3 untis.

  • @1442

Yes, but i hope the inoffical “themebuilder” also get an update ;)

  • its not as good as i hoped it to be, BUT its a beginning of a quest startet nearly 3 years ago………………..and i dont mean the PS3. well let the updates keep coming *laughs* since day one, i wanted to play warhawk while listening ingame to Coheed&Cambrias Delirium Trigger, got disappointed again. tell your higher ups to stick their head out of their butts and get them working on Features demanded since beginning of HD era. damit…PSP had a clock and date screen 2005, and you praise it like a new feature. its unbelievable how you hype things and deliver so underwhelming performance. trophies were presemted at GDC2006 You know how much time passed since then and all you got was this “gamertag” abbreviation that isnt even customasible. where the heck is the “Profile” you can only enter a few words “Hello i am human” etc. .at least i can write messages BUT still no cross game invitations or voice chat etc. you shouldnt hav had it announced this spring “something big is coming” BIG what? big disappointment. let us stupid folks wait, dont announce thing big and dann fail at the last steps (6o gig euro version, than 4o gig without BC, etc). DONT bite bigger chunks than you are actually able to swallow. PS3 is a great machine, the idea of a console soo deeply integrated withe media centric profile is very well thought but poorly worked out.
adding a stupid network icon an ruining the overall looks of the XMB, what the hell is it anyways? i just change profile and lock on to “teh intertubes”. the store is webbased so why not to the NETWORK? my online profile relates to my friendslist, why isnt it there anymore?
there are good things, photoviewer, musicbackgrounds (love em), video player. the pad , BT integration etc etc, but those “web”things and “commuity features” argh. what comes next? charging for avatars and themes? keeping expectations low for over a year now, and still getting disappointed *laughs*. the new PSstore is good, easy to navigate, throughlly thought IF your using the USstore.
its normal for ppl to expect thing, alltough here are lot of those kind “be gratefull for what you get” BUT ive paid money, ive been told its gonna be the greates experience i have..so its right to demand things. they should deliver it as we want them, not as they think its right. who the F*** wantet this stupid PSNsign? why didnt you ask the designer team who made, the designt for the home icon or XMB or PSN? user settings photos music videos network friends, what was soooo wrong about this arrangement huh? like i said. PSNstore is a webbased feature , so put it under the Webbrowser. my online profile is for my friendslist or related to it sooo put it there. sorry but it bursts out now, holding it down for over a year now. there are good things playlists and so on and so on, little things that make the PS3 better but than major drawbacks which draws my attention away from the good things.

  • Oh come on… we seriously have to play every bloody thing again to get the trophies? That’s just stupid. Make a utility that scours your save files or something. This is just rediculous. I’m not playing ANOTHER 60+ hours of Burnout to get the frickin’ trophies…

  • really I gotta start burnout all over for trophies? hmm thats kinda lame hu drivin slow cars doin all the challenges over

  • On the site of maxconsole I found this list of interesting features to be added to the XMB.
I hope that someone from the team Sony read this list.

Thanks to Claxiux and other friends of maxconsole for this list.

    1- In-game XMB
    2- Matroska support
3- In-game personal music played from the HDD or being streamed
4- Compatibility with all iPod models
    5- Clock
6- Link sound conversations with your friend/s from the XMB. And then do whatever you want from then on, while the console is maintaining the conversation link. For instance, when the game is loading or while you are watching a BD movie. E.g. You are chatting with your pal while you play MGS4, in the other side, he is watching V for Vendetta on BluRay and ruining you the beautiful ending over the headset.
    7- More codec’s support
8- Content Search bar in the PlayStation Store
9- Internet Movie Rentals right from the XMB (after having enabled it, completing a form with your credit card info, age etc.)
10- Sound Notifications for the corner text boxes (Idea’s Credit to Rockman_Joey). And being notified that you have unread mail every time you log in.
11- Customization of the PSN and LocationFree Player logo in the XMB (currently they are locked, unlike the other icons that can be altered to one’s appeal)
12- An even more stable Network
13- Fix the Wi-Fi disconnection problems the 60GB consoles suffer when the strength of the signal suddenly changes (this got a hardware fix in the 40GBs model)
14- Add downloadable PS2 games to the Store and let them be playable in Remote Play (just like we can do now with PS1 games)
15- Software backward compatibility for PS2 titles in the 40GB consoles and all future models.
16- Achievements with credit points. There can be a two lists, one with the total points you have ever earned (available for the public to see) and the other to show how many points you have traded for content that you would have had to pay for. That’s right. Allow you to trade them for paid for content. (That would cause the addiction games should give and convince people to get multiplatform’s for PS3 as you get free goodies for playing!)
    17- HOME.
18- Being able to access other region Stores from your main PS Store instead of the need to make several accounts.
19- PS3 to PSP file transfers over Wi-Fi. The cable should only be needed to register the device the first time, no more.
20- Allow the output of the video and audio to both PSP and TV at the same time. The current configuration displays a black screen on TV when the PS3 goes to Remote Play.
21- Allow to turn off the PS controller once Remote Play is selected (currently to turn it off you must know the trick of pressing the PS button for 10sec)
22- Automatically turn off controllers when left for 5/10min without use
23- Sony PlayStation Firmware Update data to be downloaded in the background
24- Full DivX and Xvid compatibility. Sony paid for the full DivX rights, but we are not getting them.
    25- RSS Feeds
26- Register the games that you have on a PlayStation Online Database so that your friends can always check what games you have.
27- Show and see what your friends are doing with the console in a status line (Idea’s Credit to Rockman_Joey)
28- Not to get disconnected from Network when watching a DVD/BD Movie
    29- In-Movie XMB
30- Alternative to the XMB’s Cross navigation menu. Giving an option is always appreciated by the customer.
31- Multiple Logins of PLAYSTATION Network users (Idea’s credit to Rockman_Joey)
    32- Voice Messaging (Idea’s credit to Rockman_Joey)
    33- Internet Radio
    34- Skype Support
35- ‘Pre-Purchase’ and ‘Pre-Download’ from the Store content that is yet to be released commercially.
36- Being able to forcefully link you to your friend/s in a Network match so that you can always be in the same team if wanted. Unless the matching teams strengths are too unbalanced of course.
37- Sync content automatically (and in the background) with chosen folders on other devices (such as your PC) to the console’s HDD via an improved DNLA
38- Invite friends to start an online game right from the XMB (HOME will bring this feature, but what if we don’t want to load HOME but to just do it simple?)
39- An official PSP video converter that beautifully creates PSP format movies using the power of the Cell. Videos stored in the console’s HDD should be optimized to the PSP’s 480×272 image resolution and the best audio for its hardware (Idea’s Credit to ZAK from forosps3.com) then have the option to send it wirelessly to the PSP.
40- In-Game memory card creation for PS2 and PS1 games (Idea’s credit to ZAK from forosps3.com)
41- Interactive and animated themes for the XMB Menu (Idea’s credit to ZAK from forosps3.com)
42- Optionally ‘Auto Turn off Console when finished all Downloads’ feature to save power.
43- Advanced parental control settings. Like choosing the maximum hours/minutes your kids can play in a day or through out the week.
44- Automatic adjustment of the PS3’s output settings to the PSP hardware when Remote Play is chosen. Currently there are missing borders on the PSP’s screen due to ratio issues and the audio streamed is commonly not right for the two small speakers the PSP has (this can create horrible noises when the volume is turned up).
45- Launch and play PS2 games that you have on DVD media from a PSP Remote Play session.
46- Optionally password protect the console
47- Optionally password protect the accounts
48- A SDK for custom games to be made. Available as freeware through the Store and HOME (after Sony’s authorization)
49- ‘Move file’ Option. Currently we have ‘Copy’ and ‘Delete’, we need ‘Move’.
50- Better support for subtitles on DivX.
51- Shutdown timer option when playing music or video. (Idea’s credit to ph0b0z)
    52- Video playlists (Idea’s credit to ph0b0z)
53- Zoom In/Out of DVD and BD movie pictures (Idea’s credit to NexusBurst)
    54- FTP Support (Idea’s credit to mexx123)
55- Correct ratio of all video. It has become a Sony tradition not to get the ratio’s right, specially on their TVs. At the moment the console will cut borders of the video you are playing if it doesn’t know how to handle them well.
56- 3D in Linux (Idea’s credit to JohnsShadow)
57- Change the controller settings manually (Idea’s credit to JohnsShadow)
58- Several audio outputs at once (Idea’s credit to Paradebh)
59- HDD Backup also through LAN/WLAN: What if we don’t have a 60GB removable drive to make a backup of all our files? Imagine you want to change your HDD to a bigger one (like I did recently), then you have to go the tedious way of backing up bit by bit all your content on a pendrive. But if we had the option to link the PS3 and a PC and let them do the job… now that would a whole different story!
60- Demo’s/Games to be installed in the background. (Idea’s credit to TheRaider). PlayStation 3 BDs that require installation should take us back to the XMB while the game installs itself on the background.
61- Ability to adjust to PC monitor displays with an option in Display Settings. This way no image borders would be cut. (Idea’s credit to wdk)
62- Display PSP games on your TV using RemotePlay (Idea’s credit to BroKnHaLo)
63- Charge of controllers even when the console is in Standby status. (Idea’s credit to registered)
64- Read and handle NTFS formated hard disks. (Idea’s credit to registered)
65- Full support for AVC, like multiple audio streams and subs. (Idea’s credit to registered)
66- Support for external subtitles (example .srt .ass .ssa .sub and others)
67- Folding@Home operating in the background with selectable priority: low-medium-high.
68- Blu-ray 3D feature (when Movies with this feature are on sale)
69- Custom Background Image for CD, DVD, Blu-ray, PlayStation, PS2 and PS3 games that we insert.
70- Updating constantly new versions of Flash Player in the web browser, and web browser even faster.
71- New feature for the web browser, that allows to select, copy and paste text into web pages.
72- An complete “File Manager” (Not only music, video and photos)
73- Internet Radio with possibility to record the song on HDD or external support.
    74- screenshots In-Game.
75- Ability to record sessions in-game on HDD.
76- A simple video and audio editor, that supports all codecs.
    77- Full 1080p and 1080i upscaling for 720p PS3 games.

    Other nice features by me:

    1) Ability to change screensaver with other downloadable from PSN.

    2) Random Wallpaper (change automatically when I turn on PS3)

    3) In-game XMB for PS1 and PS2 games.
