  • @45 Zorox
“I guess Sony saw that many people were willing to pay for the GT5 demo, so they might as well start charging for other demos as well.”

    scary, isn’t it?

hopefully not the sign of things to come.

I just think stuff like this isn’t making it better for people on the fence as to which console to buy…

  • Surprise surprise. No PS1 games yet again. The last one was on the 24th of April. So 1 game every 1-2 months?

I don’t understand the point of even having PS1 games on the store with such poor support for them.

  • now this is what i call an UPDATE!!
keep it up like this and its all good!!

  • @51 Metalmurphy-

    “Hey Zola, are you blind?

Or did you just miss the fact that we’re getting 3 demos this week… for FREE.”

talk to me in the next few weeks and months and we’ll see who was right about all this.

i am but a simple prophet, and i foresee nickel and diming running rampant in this new age of digital distribution.

oh, and learn some manners, huh?

  • its like almost 8 pm here and still no update? WHY SONY WHY?!

  • I’m with uziari. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the updates, but the timing leaves a lot to be desired. PSN is VERY inconsistent with their updates. Sometimes its in the late morning, sometimes the early afternoon…and here we are today, 4:40PST and there’s still nothing. If this is how other competitors did business, it wouldn’t be such a big deal, but the “other” console is quick to update the morning of their regularly scheduled day. Also, seeing as how Sony KNEW going in that Microsoft updated their console on Wednesdays…what possessed them to pick the day after? I’ve always wondered why someone would intentionally choose to be 24 hours behind with updates when this industry is all about having the latest and greatest as soon as its available.

I’m rooting for Sony, I really am, but sometimes these decisions make it more difficult than it needs to be.

I for one, can’t wait to try out Qore and I truly hope that the videos are exclusive. This could be big…or not. It all depends on the content! Sorry for the timing rant, it’s been on my mind since the launch of the system, maybe someone has an answer to some of the questions I raised?

  • Can’t wait to check out QORE’s first episode. Seems like a lot of work went into the project.

  • zola, if it’s true that everyone is entitled to her own opinion, then please, for everyone’s sake — yes, including yours — let them have their opinions. It isn’t necessary to proliferate this madness by responding to every individual post that challenges yours. You delivered your opinion in the second post. You got your wish. If that’s not enough for you, I don’t know what is.

  • Nice update this week.

  • Yeah. Eoyote, I concur with you on PS1 games…

Now, you can see why Wii (Virtual Console) and XBOX 360 (XBOX LIVE Arcade) have put Sony (PSN Store) to shame when it comes down to release classic games…

Really, Sony is a f***ing bad at finding a good strategy to launch that they know they can succeeded… But apparently not. So, Grace, if you are listening to this (I meant by reading this message) – PLEASE GET YOUR TEAM’S ASSES TOGETHER AND DO THE RIGHT JOB WITH PSN STORE, CLASSIC GAMES, AND MANY MORE!!!

Seriously, lately, PSN Store is like wandering into the desert… or perhaps, more likely Ghost Town (literally). Thanks to lacking updates.

  • @zola

The problem I have with what you said is very simple. Even though PSN is free, I believe that once Sony has a gaming service worth paying for they have the right to charge and we should pay it, so long as the pricing isn’t outrageous.

Hear me out: The PSN in its current state does not offer the features or services necessary to justify charging. The PS2 didn’t charge for the same reason. It is a fact of life. Once Home breaks out, for example, is a final build and is no longer a working beta, and is everything we’ve hoped for (*fingers crossed*) I expect Sony to charge reasonably; I will gladly pay the price for admission.

What we as PS owners has longed for is a service significantly improved, if not better, than XBL. To maintain this service, provide high quality of service, and continue to rise above the rest REQUIRES money. If they found away to keep this service free that doesn’t lend them to pimp out the PSN like a prostitute I’d be ecstatic, but I don’t see how else they could do it.

Simply put: It’s a business, get over it. If you want a quality product sometimes you have to pay for it.

  • @bulletdaddy: You make some good points.

However, there have been many instances of XBLA pulling titles off since there were issues after posting. I think the QA has been exceptional with PSN releases.

Not to mention this is the first to contain so many titles, demos and the Qore digital publication.

  • Hey Sony,

Great update (finally!) this week, the last two weeks sucked, but at least we got a good one this week. Although some more Game Videos and Themes wouldn’t hurt.

Do you think you can tell us what is going on with the 2.40 update that people from EA and Insomniac confirmed (so you can’t deny)? When will it release or when will we hear about it officially?

  • Nice update finally things worth downloading (with the exception of Qore). Not going to pay for things that can be found on the internet / should be free.

  • By the way, It’d would be nice to see more classic PS1/2 games on the PSN such as Metal Gear Solid, Vagrant Story, and the like.

  • it is a good update if i could download anything since its not there yet whats goin on someone please respond!

  • I’d also like to know the state of the 2.40 firmware update. I’m seriously about to **** and urinate in my pants. Simultaneously.

  • @60 jimmyn28

My Opinion: an arguement as to why i feel the new pricing strategy is unwelcome and unnecessary and in direct contrast to the initial vision of a truly free for everyone PSN.

Most of the People’s Opinions of My Post: shut up, blabbering idiot, ban him, are you blind, etc. etc.

I haven’t been challenged yet. just people with no respect and no manners.

  • Do you guys think in game xmb will include in game voice chat because it rumored to not have it. It rumored that just text message is in game xmb. That would suck if true

  • manual alphabet

no mgs4 videos to hype us up for next week?

  • jeff if we get eps one of Qore do we get in the socom beta or do we have to get the yearly one?

  • yea what happened to the PSN cards

  • nice and the civilization demo too :)

  • Zola:
You are but a simple troll, nothing more and you forsee nothing.

Once what you say happens come here and complain, until then kindly shut the hell up as you are accomplishing nothing but being annoying.

  • I’m definitely looking forward to what Qore has to offer. I’ll be picking up this episode and may buy the yearly if I like what I see.

  • @zola

Please just stop writing, they will ban you… after post after post I just saw you everywhere. just don’t listen to them, they are just fanboys. Now you are right and they are right at the sametime.

You see, if you have all the demos for free, why you are whining? you say wait week after week but, this is monthly. What I guess the demos that maybe are exclusive will be a killzone one or a super hype demo and the betas. The beta you can reach them in another way too, this is just an easy way to get them. Remember, PSN is still free, the videos are still free, the demos still free.

This is a magazine, if you are the kind of guy that buy magazines to see game news this is for you completely with behind the scenes and interviews, all interactive. Hell, i even pay sometimes 5 dollars for a game magazine. That you can still watch them via internet? yeah, just like the magazines. not everyone are like us that always watch for news everyday. that’s why the magazines survive all this long.

The more important thing, this is optional so enjoy the night with this or without this… this is a big update to choose from

  • This all looks great.

Seriously, though, I have a question: Sony has a library of TONS of excellent PS1 games that could be of great use in times of game drought (not quite on PS3 with MGS4 coming out, but the PSP is feeling the pain). I understand some games can’t be easily released (i.e. Square is probably still planning a secret FFVII remake, or at least we all hope so ! ), but I don’t understand how come more Sony games, or games released in the Japan or Europe store, are not released on the US one!?!

  • @60 solidsnake500-

    a well thought out reponse!

I tip my hat to you, sir~

“Once Home breaks out, for example, is a final build and is no longer a working beta, and is everything we’ve hoped for (*fingers crossed*) I expect Sony to charge reasonably; I will gladly pay the price for admission.”

hoo- if they actually have the nerve to charge for HOME after telling everyone forever it would be free, then that is ridiculous!

PLUS it has already been disclosed HOME sill have advertising in it! SO that should off-set the server costs!

BESIDES- free means open to one and all, new console shoppers need that push to the PS# instead of the Xbox360!

anyway, i hope Home stays free!

  • xIvSlowDeath420

This is getting sickening already,no word on xmb yet except this before MGS4 rumor. And i swear to my Playstation if you show us the same savage disrespect you did with the “inshirt xmb” shirts by announcing this next week and releasing it a day or 2 later,I’m getting my Sony Tat covered. On a side note, why can’t you guys seem to get these things up in a consistent way, early afternoon one week, late evening the next. And on the launch of Qore no less,i bet i won’t even be able to watch it before i gotta go to sleep now, knowing the dl speed i’m sure to get(i’ll leave that alone)

  • Here’s a thought: No one cares about Qore whatsoever. I have to think it is Qore keeping the update from us, as Europe (luckily Qore-free) went up without a hitch.

So, um…dump your useless magazine and give us the promised content.

  • Very nice update, can’t wait for Qore.

  • I like this update. good content.

  • me turn
@zola mola rama ding dong (facepalmed)
you see the rest of the store updated content coming right? baka, qore gives you even more. learn to comprehend before saying the most moronic things your tiny little mind can come up with.

  • Hmm, is it taking so long so you can also release a new PS3 update? :D

  • @zola

True, I do recall the in-game ad’s and the statement that Home will be free. However, the fact remains that these are intentions, very good ones at that. I don’t see a project as ambitious and immense as Home staying free for long.

Yes, advertisements will offset some costs, but in the end it’s about making a profit. In my mind, to make the profit, they need to charge.

  • Amazing update…

  • @metalmuphy

You are but a simple troll, nothing more and you forsee nothing.”

    keep telling yourself that.

the comparisons to a magazine are unfounded, this is part of PSN, it will have the SAME stuff we used to get for free like demos, themes, blu-ray trailers, and add-on content.

but now that “exclusive” content is set aside and charged for..

I really think a monthly magazine type podcast {like major nelson’s for 360 users) would be great to see behind the scenes and get to know what’s going on in PS3 land…but to charge for it?

  • Any idea as to when the store will be updated? Is it a big hiccup or little one that is preventing the content from showing up?

  • Nice… looking forward to seeing how the CivRev demo stacks up against the 360 version… which, incidentally, was released at 2am this morning. Ahem. I’m no analyst, but I think Sony putting more content on the store — and doing so as frequently and quickly as their competition — would be to their benefit. I know my saying so won’t change that, but I can’t help but be curious as to the reasoning behind Sony’s apparent neglect of something that’s paid obviously enormous dividends for their competition.

But anyway, I’m going to hold out to see if Rock Band will release a Motorhead pack… but I won’t hold out long. I didn’t really like GH3, but I do have it and I LOVE Motorhead. Great selection of tracks too. “Stay Clean” and “(We Are) The Road Crew” are two of my favorite Motorhead songs.

  • So let me get this straight. I buy 2-3 games a month, so you’ve got a shot at $10-20 in royalties from me each month. Because I want to see a demo before making an impulse buy, and because those are going to be free on Xbox Live but for-pay on Qore, you’re throwing away $10 in revenue (to your competitor, actually) to try to milk me for $3.

I’m not sure what business school you graduated from, but I’d ask for a refund.

  • Great update. Too bad I had to ship my PS3 away and have to wait for a refurbished one before I can play those demos…

  • Zola,

Where exactly do you get “paying for demos”

All the demos being released today are still free without a Qore subscription.

We don’t even know what this “special extra content” is yet, so chill. It could be nothing.

Were you complaining during PS2 days where demo discs came with Offical Playstation Magazines (which cost a lot more than Qore?)

It’s not like you even need to buy Qore to continue playing most demos..

  • If i buy the anual subscription of qore will it update autimatically for me?

  • Quick question for the qore subscribers who already own calling all cars. Will we be able to get a substitute game if we get the annual subscription? thanks in advance

  • this is a painful wait. how long after an update till the store updates?

  • @Sora
The magazine is a from a 3rd party and sony is just giving them a spot to host it aka the PS store so the regularly sheduled stuff from sony is going to stay the same,
and like other magazines this one also reserves some exclusives and this time its beta acces for example.

And yes you do have right to voice your opnion just try to do it in a more civil manner.

For those of you asking about the beta
Yes you get the beta even if you only buy this episode.
This is the open beta and Qore subsctribers will join in guarenteed but 2 weeks after the beta launches.

If Qore is part of PTOM.
i think PTOM should give ids subscirbers atleast a discount altho probably not free since it does cost more to secure exclusive deals and make this type of programming.

    On my last note”
I would have loved to buy/subscribe to Qore but PSN cards are yet to be found, even tho we heard loooong ago that they were shipped out but it looks like 90% have been lost in transit.

Oh and any info on firmware updates before it is released iws welcome :D

  • I concur with 79. Why the lack of support for PS One classics when Japan and even Europe are getting updates? With Metal Gear Solid 4 around the corner, I figure it would be appropriate to have the original MGS up for download to help kick things off.

Obtaining PS1 classics that are otherwise difficult/impossible to find (Wild ARMs, Castlevania SOTN) has been one of the biggest draws to the PS Store for me, and it’s saddening to know that this aspect of the store is being abandoned in favour of more Rockband/Guitar Hero add ons, (although I suspect that the really good titles like the PS1 Final Fantasy games will pop up once Qore is out).

  • 1.5gb for Qore?!?! Knowing how slow the servers are it will take me a 2 hours to download it and a few minutes to install it.

I can download 1.5gb on LIVE in less than 15-20 minutes. I guess that’s what i pay for huh.

Things sony needs to look into
    – low power state for download
    – invest in more servers and optimize server speed

  • Great update! Geez could you stop complaining about Qore, nobody is forcing you to purchase it; if you don’t want it don’t buy it!! Personally I think is a great idea, I am waiting for the update to go live to get my annual subscription.

Grace is there any RPGs coming to PSN soon? I miss my RPGs so badly!

  • Any idea when the PStore update is going up? I wanna check out Qore :)
