Today we are announcing that Qore: Presented by the PLAYSTATION Network, a highly interactive, monthly lifestyle gaming program covering the world inside PLAYSTATION is on its way to PS3. Qore has been developed to give PS3 users early access to game related content at a level of quality, interactivity and depth. Everything is filmed in HD. Qore will feature exclusive news, developer interviews, in-depth game previews and behind-the-scenes looks at PlayStation games and special access to game demos, special beta invitations, game add-ons and other downloadable game-related content.
Our premier episode will be available on Thursday, June 5. The premier episode includes in-depth exclusive and never-before released content on upcoming PlayStation titles such as SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Secret Agent Clank, Soul Calibur 4 and Afro Samurai, as well as the latest Blu-ray Disc trailers, an exclusive SOCOM: Confrontation theme with an invitation to the SOCOM: Confrontation beta, art galleries and other surprises. We also know that many of you are big fans of Veronica Belmont, the widely-known host of numerous online video programs and podcasts and an avid gamer, so we’ve chosen her to be your host.
To get Qore, simply log onto PSN and go to the PLAYSTATION Store, as you would purchase any other form of downloadable content. Once the single Episode or annual subscription is purchased, that month’s episode will be downloaded under the “Game” heading on the Cross Media Bar (XMB). Users who purchase the “Qore Annual Subscription” will notice only that month’s episode is available to download. The following month, the new episode will automatically appear in your download list. The introductory price for Qore is $2.99 for a single episode and $24.99 for an annual subscription of 13 episodes, using your PLAYSTATION Network wallet.
As Peter Dille mentioned in a previous PLAYSTATION Network post, the broader service and community initiatives launching on the PLAYSTATION Network this year such as Qore, PlayStation Home and the Video Download Service are all evidence of our dedication to delivering an all-encompassing entertainment experience for PS fans. Qore is the first in a series of planned original programming specifically created for the PLAYSTATION Network community and we hope you enjoy it.
@396
That could potentially help ease the feeling that they are somehow charging for PSN, or skimming content to suit Qore users.
Honestly, I agree with some of you that say you don’t get anything for nothing. The problem is that Sony is using the free PSN as a selling argument. I’m just scared that this is the begining of the end the Free PSN, like PS3 40 gigs was the begining of the end of backward compatibility… When the 40gig came out, you still had the choice to buy a 80gig (with pseudo backward compatibility) or a 40 gig with no campatibility at all. My guess is Sony is starting to go the same way with the PSN access and content. Sure access to online gaming will probably still free, but enventually, gamers who are not paying any fees for the acces are going to be redirected to low maintenance servers. And gold member are going to get the right stuff.
Think about that… Maybe there’s a reason why Home didn’t came out yet. Maybe because they want to see with Qore if people a ready to pay for services on PSN… like they could charge for Home.
Anyways, PS3 is still my gaming jewel, but it is sad that I’m getting used to be desapointed by Sony…
This is and won’t be the end of free PSN…what is wrong with you all? It’s only just about one exclusive demo per month an episode. There will still be more demos on the PSN.
@397
Qore gives Sony a chance to make money off of a completely optional service. That you can either choose to use or not. It’s kinda disturbing how many people around some of these threads on the net fail to realize that this whole thing is optional.
@395
I completely agree
@401
True. I just like free stuff, I in no way feel like they are going to cheat me out of content.
I think most people should just look it like IGN, Their insider service costs about the same,but free users still have access to pretty much everything.
This is great! I can’t wait to pay for ad’s and the great “free” content that I have been recieving now. Such great content like wallpaper that advertises a game. Trailers (again ads)for movies. The VERY rare demo that is worth the time to DL. All the while being shown a giant Burger King add in the back ground.
WAKE UP FOOLS, this is all advertisement! Your local newspaper doesnt ask you for an additional 20 cents if you want the 40 pages of coupons and crap that they shove in there every sunday!
NBC isnt going to turn off your tv if you dont pay an additional $3 a month to watch commercials.
Magazines dont cost an extra $1.50 if you want the version WITH the ads!
This is The dumbest thing I have ever heard of. Tell you what, I WONT be buying your ADS then lets see how much product I end up buying if I dont see any advertisement. Sony has lost there freaking mind.
@ NinjasOwn
yes whole thing is optional. but whats not optional is what demos the chose to lock up in Qore. thats were they stab us right in the back.
@407
Then dont, I will ask Sony will take that gun from the side of your head. K?
@408
We know the Demos will stay in core forever how? I have been subscribing to core for months….Oh wait, no I haven’t.
It could very well be a one week lull in the particular demo for core subscribers and non subscribers.
@407 Don’t buy it then. I’ll be snagging my first episode and enjoying it. Maybe I’ll end up subscribing to the whole year.
@411
Silly Clintzone, I thought you said your PS3 died.
Kabbage/DirtyDee :D
Wow this morning it was only 2 pages.. now it’s 9 pages.
Umm.. anyone in Canada asked if the price will be the same or less or more?
I’ve gotten over it now, I’m gunna wait til Thursday but I’m still not getting this Qore thing.
Now Qore will have exclusivity on some of the new demos then.
Will this exclusivity be around a week? More?
ps: Like Chrono Breaker said, I just hope it’s not gonna turn into a kind of Xbox Live that makes you pay for everything.
@415
Exclusive demos was know when they first posted this… How long it will have those demos as exclusive to Qore subscribers has yet to be seen, that is, if they ever make it to the PSStore.

Man, that’s a big point you’ve got there. I also hope it’s not gonna end in an Playstationbox live thing, as I bought the ps3 since I’m a fan but also for the free content…
I like the idea. Sounds like a cool service if you ask me
cool, so its like a magazine service. I have a question though, will we still gut usual things on the Playstation Store as often as we do now? or will we have to PAY for all demos on QORE. and also, will HOME BETA be sold on this QORE service?
The PSN is FREE!!! Pretty soon they going to charge for HOME if we want extra features. I am NOT subscribing to anything because feature like these in the PS family should be free as we a different(from Microsoft).
And the beauty is… You don’t have to subscribe.
Qore =/= Playstation Network.
I like the idea and I’m def. gonna get it. $25 a year is an easy price and I don’t even have a job OR allowance. Also as long as I can play online for free wth cares? As someone else said, $2.08 a month is hardly a big sum. Oh not enough money left over after to buy yourself a Coke? I’m sure you’ll get over it.
JR+Blog FTW!!!
“Also, with all due respect, I presently get more in-depth and behind-the-scenes content from places like Kotaku.com than I do from ‘official’ Sony sources.”
I’d pay Sony $100/year to buy any games news outlets from Gawker Media and Weblogs Inc. — or IGN, even GameSpot — and just put “deny all” in the .htaccess of the public_html directory and leave it that way. They’re all sorry rags that make a joke out of any sort of ethical, well-written or even barely tolerable journalism. At least Sony’s product is clearly a first-party product. If it’s claptrap, they’re straight up about it.
Try some place like worthplaying.com for fair, accurate news and reviews. They don’t have a lot of PS3 games reviews coverage, probably simply because Sony isn’t hooked in with pushing a lot of first- and third-party review copies of games to them, especially early or right after release. But the site is very nicely written and consistently edited, and the guy or gal posting as “Rainier” is a monster, logging in gaming news from the States, EU and Japan round the clock. In fact “Rainier” must just be the posting name of their whole international news team, or that person NEVER sleeps. Some guy named Larch, or March– Lemme check. His name is August March turns out a bunch of sharp, fair PS3 reviews, apparently when the site does actually get a load of PS3 review titles from publishers and Sony; and he’s clearly got no console bias one way or the other. Actually, reading his stuff, add to that the thorough PS3 new coverage, worthplaying.com, for what looks like a heavy PC gaming site, makes one of best cases on the web for owning a PS3.
Someone on NeoGaf posted this and I couldnt agree more.
“They have been charging for products on PSN since day 1, this is simply another product offered up on the core service which is free”
Who not complain about Resistance Maps, or foe each $2 song download for Rock Band.
Since I got PS3. I wanted to go back to gaming magazine. I think ill get this subscription rather than the paper magazine. Magazine does not include BETA but this Qore will and also shows and trailers. I know some Magazine will give you feedback and review.. But now most magazine are just full of ADS.
Now if I can only find a PSN Pre-paid cards. Or i’ll use my expense card again.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like the idea of paying for anything that could go to everyone for free.
Cut the whole have and have-nots from Qore IE Demos and Themes and I don’t think anyone would have issue with it.
i find it quite amazing and amusing how many people don’t actually read whats written in either the actually news post or following comments. instead, they don their “i know everything” caps and head to their respective soap boxes. thats a big part of whats wrong in this entire world today, lack of reading skills. if most of the people that didn’t understand just simply read further or asked, they’d know what this is all about and wouldn’t make such idiotic nonsenseical rantings. i love this idea, would have prefered PlayTV or an HD movie downloading service, but color me in. i’ve paid for many a magazine subscription in my past and felt ripped off. this tops any magazine or fansite to date.
1-2 hours, should just always do 1.5 hours. don’t want to feel i got taken when 3 episodes in a row are 1 hour. followed by 1 two hour “special”. i’m hoping exclusive demo’s means more for any given demo. like a larger selection of characters in a fighting game? or different levels in fps’s? that sort of thing. so subscribers get twice the demo as non-sub’s. only fair if one sides paying. 2.40fw? all in all, a nice new edition to the current “coming soon” list of ps3/psn content. further cementing the fact i made the right choice in MY next generation console.
thanks to all party’s involved. home beta access come with a yearly subscription? (just wishing):)
looks great, and so does she.
I honestly don’t mind Qore, I don’t like the prospect of exclusive Demo’s that could be free.
I hear people talk about how Demos on Qore are on Qore forever; do we not know what syndication is, which was used to describe Qore and PSN.
Network Broadcast = There for only those there to watch it, if you miss out, tough luck. (Qore Subscribers)
Syndication.
Syndication is the sale of the right to broadcast radio shows and television shows to multiple individual stations…(PSN) You can see it as well, but if you missed it during its broadcast then people have seen it before you.
Why not complain about Playstation Undergrond since they got demos that Non Underground members didn’t get.
i’m sorry but why is Sony charging us to play demos and test betas? Beta testing to the public allows developers access to free labor and now Sony decides to middle man us and charge a fee. Who in the world would pay to watch trailers when everything can be found on the web for free? Keep the PSN free. It’s a big advantage against Microsoft. ATTENTION SONY: PLEASE FOCUS ON IN GAME XMB, TROPHIES AND HOME. HOME has been delayed so much its getting embarrassing. Pull your resources together and focus on the immediate stuff. I’m a big SONY fan but seriously… Listen to the gamers.
Why the hell would they listen to the gamers, gamers are the most fickle bunch of simple minded idiots on the planet.
They want everything and complain when they get anything.
They would be better off listening to group of bellowing walrus than listening to gamers.
With that said, Qore does feel like a step backwards from Sony’s underlying theme of being free.
But then again the 10million XBL Users don’t really seem to mind.
Ok i don’t think know how read its says very clearly that it just gives users >early access to game related contentFREE< just those who subscribe to this service(which is optional) will get their hand on things before any other person ok thats all ….
THINGS REMAIN THE SAME ALL THAT QORE DOES IS GIVE ITS SUBSCRIBER AN EARLY ACCESS GAMES ETC…..
Ok i don’t think people know how read its says very clearly that it just gives users >early access to game related content< (just those who subscribe to this service which is optional) non subscribers will get their hand on things after the subscribers ok thats all ….

Dude, I can’t believe people are seriously looking at Qore in such a negative light. They wouldn’t be offering a six-minute preview of Hulk without Qore. They wouldn’t be offering some of these behind-the-scenes videos without Qore.
Do you realize they’re going to EXTRA effort to make Qore worthwhile?
They’re not just taking stuff that would normally be on PSN and moving it over to Qore and charging for it. They’re going out to developers to get content SPECIFICALLY for Qore. If you don’t want the extra content, don’t buy Qore. It’s that simple.
Why not just complain that you have to pay for the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly? I mean, how audacious of them to put EXCLUSIVE CONTENT in their magazine that they don’t put up for free online at 1UP.com? Yeah, how egregious of them to want to make money or offer an incentive to paying customers. My eyes can’t roll far enough.
And on the subject of the SOCOM beta, this is nothing new. You had to preorder MGS4 to get access to the MGO beta, you had to buy Crackdown to get access to the Halo 3 beta, etc, etc.
Finally, this doesn’t signal “the end of free PSN” or whatever apocalyptic visions you people have. They charge for things in the PlayStation STORE; that’s not new. This is ONE extra service they decided to put up that you don’t have to buy in to. If you want everything on PSN to stay the same…just don’t buy Qore and everything will be exactly the same.
Besides, all the stuff on Qore will be up on YouTube within hours, so don’t worry about it.
@434
You are my new hero, can I have your babies.
It’ll be great to see something new on PSN. I think I’ll download the first episode, and then decide if I want to subscribe later. I think the $3 is worth it for the socom beta. Anyway complaining about paying for demoes must be too young to have bought a demo disk or gotten a magazine that was way overpriced cause of the demos.
Gotta say, SCEA, but I cannot wait!
This is practically the old Jampack/PlayStation Magazine Demo Disk days!
I always loved getting those disks every month and playing, watching, and enjoying what each one has in store.
But now, I don’t have to fumble around with a disk anymore for exclusive videos or downloads!
I know quite a bit of people are a bit up-in-arms about a price for the service, but granted, we still paid for those demo disks! And with Qore’s pricing, it’s only a fraction of the price we paid for those disks and is practically a steal!
Can’t wait to see (and interact) with Qore!
(also, can we expect g.a.p. members to participate with future qore videos? g.a.p.-ers were in some demo disk videos before, and it would be fun to continue on the, in a lack of words, ‘legacy’ of g.a.p.!)
Yes #434, you made an excellent point.
…Wow. This is why I barely come here these days. There’s always complaining, complaining, complaining, whining, whining, whining. People have been complaining about PSN not being on the same boat as XBL. Now that Sony is trying to do something to make PSN better, people get on like it’s the end of the world as we know it.
…What part of ‘you don’t have to pay for it’ do you people understand?
Some of you make me ashamed to be a PS3 owner.
@434
I pretty much agree with everything you said except the youtube comment. I don’t know about you, but I would imagine that most would rather see content in HD, and not youtube quality video.
@whatisdelicious
Finally after many pages someone said something smart… the same I said before and in the forums.
People pay like 15 dollars for a paper subscription or 5 dollars for a single one without the betas and now you will have that magazine but interactive, in full HD with a host.
The PSN will be still free, we still have demos and for betas you pay 5 dollars for the beta reserving it.
This is really something unique that no one in another console did it and we batch it because we see a price of 2.99 or 25. Just imagine it is another game you buy in the PSN.
You guys shouldn’t charge us as you have ads in this just like Home. How is this going to be better than IGN or other sites? They get plenty of exclusive content.
Please don’t hold back the PS Blog with this either, as the blog has been so great on giving a lot of great news. A link to the PS Blog should be put right on the XMB, but the videos on the site would have to be viewable through the browser.
Please don’t make demos exclusive to Qore.
Don’t turn PSN into Xbox Live($$$)!
Can’t leave a comment or send an email through Firefox still!!!
@436 spyker3292:
That’s a good point; I forgot to address demos in my post, and that’s a really good way to do so.
Demos being free is a relatively new convention, and people seem to forget that. Whether you paid to buy an issue of OPM or OXM or whatever, or you paid to preorder a game, or you straight up paid for the demo disc, you had to pay for demos, not just download it for free. And if you didn’t want to pay for the demo then you didn’t get to try the game out before you bought it and that was that.
I hate to say it because it makes me feel really old, but today’s gamers are spoiled. They’re spoiled by free demos, as though they have a RIGHT to demos, as though demos weren’t a privilege, as though demos don’t cost developers time, money, and resources to make.
@441
Demos aren’t going to be exclusive in general. Some may be timed exclusive for Qore Subscribers.
According to the comparison of Broadcast and Syndication, the don’t look to stay exclusive for too long.
Even then it seems to be exclusive to the BIG demos, say maybe Bioshock, or Metal Gear (If that had one) or Killzone 2
Think of it as a get it early type deal.
Will you be able to buy qore via psn network cards? and is there any new updates on it thanks
The main issue here is if this service will deprive us from getting the free demoes/trailers/themes that up till now have been free.
The only reason I want this issue is because of the SOCOM beta code. That is really the only advantage. News can be found on websites for free all over the place.
It seems like they are going to use this service to keep certain content “exclusive…or early access” which means that if we want all the content, or at least get it on time, we now have to pay for that. doesn’t this mean we have to wait longer for free stuff unless we pay?
If paying for this service gives me access to things I wouldn’t have gotten before (or at least with a lot of work or luck) then it will be worth buying(like maybe some more beta codes…maybe even a beta code for HOME)
But being charged for anything we have normally been given for free isn’t very nice. We will see how this service changes the PSN before I will give my final judgement.
So far I’m unsure about how interesting Qore will be. From what I’ve seen, the price is way too high for this kind of media, and I truly think that this “exclusive” content should just be made free to all PlayStation owners. PSN is always on and always free right? Shouldn’t every PlayStation owner be able to experience the latest demos and download the newest themes? I understand charging for betas, but the video content also seems like it should be free. Give me a reason to subscribe Sony, Qore definitely has potential.
im liking what you guy are doin psnetwork.
moving on
Young Cubbage, Yup my PS3 is dead. I’ll get the first eps. when I get it back. :lol:
@447
How is it too high, Magazines offer the same thing only text based and they cost more per issue, and last I checked they don’t offer betas, or videos.
The ones that give you this content cost way more than this per issue. Since they have to include the discs.
According to Jeff, this will not effect PSN Content, only give those who want it first look access.
Until we have some sort of proof that this is effecting people who dont subscribe (content wise) these complaints seem pretty hollow.
@449
Sux about your PS3 Clintzone =(
