Hi all! Our Metal Gear posts are attracting so much attention that we’re popping back in ahead of schedule to answer some of your questions off the regular Metal Gear Mondays schedule.
To start, we have been getting reports that some of you are receiving partial digit UPVC’s Metal Gear Online Beta on the “Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2″ DVD inserts. We are aware of this issue and are working hard to remedy. If you’ve been affected by this issue, please contact us at http://www.konami-data.com/support/. Please be sure to include your partial code, and any other pertinent details (like a return email address, etc). We thank you for your patience.
Second, as some of you may have noticed, the download of the MGO Beta client is now available. Carefully following the instructions you received with your UPVC, you can go grab it. Once it’s downloaded and installed, and you hit the main menu, you’ll notice to proceed you need to sign in your PSN account. Once you’ve done that, you’ll see that there is an update that must be downloaded and installed. From there, the next menu is where you can sign up for your Konami ID/Game ID, which are required to play Metal Gear Online. You can also sign up for a Konami ID/Game ID at http://id.konami.net at any time using a web browser on a PC as well. Once you have signed up for your Konami ID/Game ID, and input it into MGO on your PS3, you can select the option to save the login and password and just login directly in the future without having to input it again.
Following that, until gameplay begins on the 21st, you will just receive an error if you try to sign in to play MGO right now.
As mentioned in the previous posts about Metal Gear Online and Konami ID, the Konami ID/Game ID will be used to offer community and other features with Metal Gear Online, similar to some other popular multiplayer online game web communities, except in this case the web community is directly integrated into the game client which allows for some special functionality. As you use Metal Gear Online, you will see how the PS3 web browser is seamlessly integrated into the experience, and then of course, you can go and access the community when you are away from your PS3 as well, using a web browser on a PC. We’ll reveal more about the community features of MGO at a later date.
Now we’ll just dive directly into some of your questions previous posts:
I_Love_New_York asked: Can we play this game locally once it is downloaded or is it only played through online?
@I Love New York: You must sign in to play Metal Gear Online. There is no local play option.
darkiewonder asked: Any of the Konami folks will be playing in the BETA as well?
@darkiewonder: We sure will!!! We may try to arrange some matches with you all or something like that… Stay tuned!
Sheen asked: Upon downloading the Beta on the 17th, what can the player do? Would I be able to tool around the character creation settings and all that before I play? I’d like to do that beforehand.
@Sheen: Thanks! You can set up a Konami ID/Game ID through the MGO client/PS3, or can do so right now at http://id.konami.net, otherwise character creation and of course gameplay will not be available until the 21st.
bobamuknunbabo asked: When will you take pre-orders for the Gunmetal Grey MGS4 PS3 Bundle? Where would you be able to do so? Konami America?
@bobamuknunbabo, and everyone else who has been asking: We really appreciate your excitement about the gun-metal grey “Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots” Limited Edition PLAYSTATION 3 Hardware Bundle. We will be revealing more information about this very soon, please stay tuned!
lawman3092 asked: Is there any mic support in the beta or in the starter pack coming with MGS4?
@lawman3092: Absolutely! Mics are supported by MGO!
Thanks everyone! See you Monday!
I wonder if they solved the registration problem? I just got through with no problem.
Though I’m not sure when it happened exactly, sometine today, the Online Manual was made available.
@ 343
its not open in the U.S., and im pretty sure they gave europe an open beta because they always get screwed over on everything else, so you guys deserve it.
on the other hand, they never said that the beta would launch at midnight. this was an assumption made by the fans. you may be having connection problems because not all of their servers are turned on yet.
and about the konami id… yes i agree its stupid and convoluted, but at least konami gave you a chance to get it early on this very blog a week ago. thats what i did. i know that doesnt seem like enough time, but hey, at least they didnt spring it on you after downloading the game.
so until the game gets fully up and running, you cant really judge their server capacity or lack thereof.
@packy17
regarding uk and europe it was to launch at midnight cest time(paris, berlin), like an hour ahead of gmt (london) time.
It may be that not all the servers are fired up, buy we all knew this was gona happen with everyone trying to log in at once and play, considering the shambles of konamis id portal website im not surprised theres so many server problems regarding actually being able to play the game.
It will make it all the morw worth the wait when it finally works :)
@353
i was unaware that they announced a midnight launch, i retract that then
and i agree with you on everything else
When exactly does the beta open for us to play? I mean, I know the date but I’m talkin’ abt the time.
Hopefully it’s at 12:01 am, heh.
Oops! LOL, Midnight it is.
Oh, no official time……
why don’t you guys use PSN for the final MGO???? It’s a simple unified system, and this is all unnecessary. This is the biggest ps3 game and your not using PSN???? come on fix this up.
Konami I am a huge MGS fan, but you can take this game and the beta and shove it!! You’ve made this 10 times more difficult then you needed too. I hope MGO flops on you.
nearly 4am here in the uk and still cant get online.
same old balls of logging in, clicking on start game and unable to connect to server error ughhhhhh
My system locks up as soon as I hit X to try and enter the gameID or password. Nothing happens, music keeps playing but I can’t put anything in and have to hold the button on the PS3 to get it to reboot. Tried contacting Konami but guess they are busy with all the other issue. Just will suck for people who run into this error and don’t have any support on how to work through it like me.
konami id is working better than ever now, at least for me.. if anyone want i can create accounts… just tell me which konami id u want, and which gamer id u want, ur country, zip code, birthdate, email adress, name and lastname, city and state to my email (lopez1227@hotmail.com) and i will make it for u.. u can change the paswords and the information u need later..
after 12 here on the east coast USA… Still can’t log in
anybody in america get on yet? mine says “unable to connect to server.(090b:00000001)”
Its 12:30 here and i get a message similar to : Security certificate invalid or not confirmed yet (your playstation 3’s clock my not be sut up right) then it asks if i wan to continue I say yes..and then it say unable to connet..
I’m in Michigan.
well im going to watch a movie until 12:01
i cant see it being fixed anytime soon, its 5:40am here in the uk, servers in europe have meant to have been online and playable for nearly 7 hours now.
Everyone throughout the world is having the same problems and error messages, biggest joke and waste of time.
090F:FFFFFFFF60 error here in Europe.
Hope we dont have to download another update to fix this. Beta will end by the time we manage to download it.
Im so livid about this…. theres a video of actual beta footage from a guy in the UK who is in the beta, its crappy quality but its real and its on N4G.com but i cant get in and im sick of waiting, it was supposed to start over an hour ago….. wheres the compensation for the crappy ID issues we had to deal with, i mean i know the game n beta will be great but four years working on this game they should be ready for this stuff
1:04 AM EST in the US, and I’m getting “Unable to connect to server.(090B:00000001)”.
What if it’s a 12pm Hawaiian time? D’oh!!!
@pharmd:
Compensation?!?! Dude…
Some folk on here are better off taking up needle point; this beta testing thing seems to be too much stress.
I’m disappointed, 1:25am EST and no dice. Unable to connect to server still.
I’m going to bed, I’ll check you all out when we can actually play-add me, my login is the same. Later.
what i recomend to all of u… go to sleep, wake up one hour earlier than usuall, or like at 5am and i guess that is gonna work by then! dont worry about it.. is just a game (well the best game ever, my live LOL… but still just a game) so everyone chill out, it will come..
Yup, im in Chicago (12:28 am) and also still cant get in. I also heard about the Konami ID website being down. Good thing I registered twice about a week ago, and now have two Konami ID’s. (Just in case)
“Konami I am a huge MGS fan, but you can take this game and the beta and shove it!! You’ve made this 10 times more difficult then you needed too. I hope MGO flops on you.”
That seems really harsh. Have you tried to register lately? I was finally able to get through no problem. Maybe the new servers are up. Try again.
Oh boy, I can’t wait for Monday’s Metal Gear post. First the whole Konami ID thing (not even using our PSN names), then beta errors galore for various regions. Yes, I realize that this is a beta but come on…did they really not expect to have this much traffic for a Metal Gear game? If they expect people to pay for MGO in the future..well good luck with that.
Please see message from MGO website.

hey guys, i translated the Japanese MGO site and this is what it says.
“This time, in you to participate “METAL GEAR ONLINE PREMIERE β” concerning report and the future correspondence regarding connected obstacle, thank you truly. Presently as for “METAL GEAR ONLINE PREMIERE β”, being able to offer normal service it has become the circumstance which is not depending upon the access centralization from the entire world. Especially, serious obstacle occurs e.g., after 2008.04.21 07:00 where the beta test at European area is started, it cannot draw up the prayer. You considered this circumstance, one time discontinued the beta test execution other than Japan, for Japan after stability work of service was verified, reopening the test at each area you solved, it does. As has done applying annoyance very much, you say to apologize deeply, cooperation to the beta test, we ask to everyone who has received participation. Furthermore, you modify beta test execution schedule attendant upon the obstacle occurrence of beta test start beginning. Concerning future schedule, please verify description below. Beta test discontinuance other than Japan”
So the beta has been closed for anyone outside of japan :(
sux

Nice job, guys. You couldn’t anticipate the sheer number of people? How about counting how many beta codes you sent? I think that would give you a fairly accurate number of people wanting to participate. Well, at least the beta closure date is so far into the future that only sheer idiocy could mess things up now. Wait a minute… CRAP!
Try http://www.konami.jp/mgo/us for more info…Beta has been delayed.
hey ho
this is what a beta is for tho i guess
Deeply disappointed with the execution of MGO Beta. How could Konami not know the sheer size of people coming in when they have given out the beta codes. I have been waiting all day to get into the beta. Only if the beta is like this with few people how could they handle the size of people who are expected to go online when the original MGO comes out. I would say this is a bad execution by Konami on MGO Beta issue.
The least they could do is let us make our characters and mess around in practice mode.
Yep. Japan only for now. Just paste http://www.konami.jp/mgo/jp/index.php into the Google translator http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=EN and voila! Shafted!
Well at least they have made the beta last a few days longer. As I see it, I will have to suffer less after beta is over to get to play again. I would be disappointed if this was the retail version, but since its beta, cant really complain I guess… thats what beta is for. Or at least thats what I tell my self lol
Somehow, I’m just not surprised…
Note that the “WHEN can I play” link is greyed-out for all regions except Japan, or go to…

…and read the inset window in the middle.

How could you guys not have seen this coming. You know for a fact that Metal Gear is one of the most popular franchises on Playstation. You could have easily accommodated all traffic if you had planned accordingly.
I really hope us Europeans don’t get left out in the cold as usual. I would really love to enter the beta and provide feedback!
Thanks,

Well, I may be the only one here that is glad all this happened. Not for any cynical reason, I just truly believe that this experience will greatly improve the gaming industry, like a black Monday so to speak. Everyone is paying attention to this, but that people who matter are the ones who can keep a cool head. Yes it’s a big deal, but it’s certainly not the end of our game boners. I would like to personally thank everyone at Sony and Konami for all of the work they have put into bringing us this game and I look forward to the June release of MGS4. It’s 01:04 PST on the 21st, still can’t connect to the servers, but even if i have to wait till june to feel the mgs4 engine it will still give me chills I am sure. Everyone else… chillout. have you forgotten what day it just was? it was 420. go eat a brownie and drink some water.
oh wow i just read the update.. knowledge is power kids. don’t kill yourselves.
@enerdream
Not only is 4/20 over, but brownies and WATER? You must be high!
This is a bunch of crap now the beta is acting up? Come on Konami who do you guys think your fooling?
i think this is a way to get alot of preorders from fans or soon to be fans look at the facts
1.beta release 2 months before the game comes out(making time for preorders)
2.konami id and game id needed before you can play the beta(more time for preorders)
3.konami id web site down, broke,or busy whatever you want to call it (making time for preorders)
4.Now we cant logon cause to many people got the beta(even more time for preorders)
its true betas are only test (thats what they wanted to here) but how many betas have you heard of or been in that couldnt hold the amount of people who signed up for it (im waitting)
but dont let me tell it im just pissed cause i live in a home and my room mate has an xbox360 so you know im getting clowned (thanks konami)
If the game comes out in june what the hell makes konami think we want a beta till november?
I SWEAR IF SNAKE WAS REAL I WOULD TELL OTACON TO SEND HIM IN KONAMI STUDIOS WITH A RPG AND SET THINGS RIGHT
I BET METALGEAR MONDAYS ARE OVER AFTER THE COMMENTS THEY WILL BE GETTING (LOL)
all they have to do is order up more resources (servers, etc.) and set them up. calm down people. it’ll get here.
at least give us that training mode man … to taste the gameplay…
