Ever Wonder Who’s Reading All Those Comments?

409 10

Hey gamers! Response to this here PlayStation.Blog has been so impressive, that SCEA decided that someone needed to be brought in to help keep an eye on it full time. I’m that person. Really, I’ve been lurking behind the scenes here for over a month, but it’s time to come out and say hello.

Among other things, it’s my job to help connect those who create software, hardware, and peripherals for PlayStation systems, and those of you who play them. And I can’t do it without you, the faithful and passionate readers.

So keep those comments coming – we’re reading them! Also, please feel free to utilize the Contact Us section (on the right side of the blog) if what you wanna say is off-topic. We read that too, even if we don’t necessarily have enough hours in the day to write back to each of you.

In the near future, we plan on coming to you more and more, finding out what you want to know and what you’d like to see here on PlayStation.Blog.

As a lifelong gamer, and a PlayStation fan since the days of (the original) Twisted Metal, Resident Evil and Crash Bandicoot games – I’m ecstatic to be here and to serve in this role. Keep me busy.

  • i want white ps3 to be introduced in EU.
i want sony by all means to keep the exclusives to mgs4 and ff13 and versus also!! they are the keys for ps3 success and trust me about that!! even those who love the 360 because its cheap and have good online thing cant deny about that fact that they want these games that i mentioned!!
when i say mgs every body who ever had a playstation in his life gets excited about it!! and many hard core and rpg fans r dying to get ff13!!
and finally dont screw killzone 2!! its looks amazing but graphics never replace game play!! and put more colors in the game!! its not good if all the game is in the darks!! and multiplayer is a key to drive sales these days!!
also its harder to crack online games so if u make a good online more people will buy the game instead of buying the copy game!!
i registered now just to give mt thoughts to sony!!
and by the way i am software engineering and i want to work for sony after i finish my university and i have so many great ideas that may sell millions of copies if they were executed!!

  • Good to know a company is taking its customers to heart. I really like how before Uncharted came out they were answering alot of questions about it.That’s what makes me come back here. I would like to know is there anyway we can get a heads up on the updates on Thursdays? Say the day before or the first thing that morning or better yet that Monday so we’ll know what’s popping up for the week.

  • Hey Jeff,

I’m very glad to finally meet you. I’ve been a big PlayStation fan since 1995 when PS1 first came out. Been a PlayStation Underground member since the beginning. I’m a big supporter of PS1, PS2, PSP, and even PS3. I’m considered to be the biggest defender of the PlayStation platform in many forums, and will continue to show my love/enthusiasm for PlayStation even if I get kicked off a forum for supporting it too much.

I’m very happy this blog has been created because it has given me a chance to interact with the people involved with PlayStation, and it makes me very happy.

I complete respect the job you do looking after all these comments. I’ll admit that I sometimes have trouble reading all the comments (especially what a few people say here, which isn’t good), but I’m glad there someone who is and gets a lot of respect from me.

I’m definitely looking forward to the future at the PlayStation Blog. :D

    Have a terrific day Jeff.

  • Hey welcome aboard!! Hopefully this will bring peace and order to the Galaxy!!

  • what else sony needs from a software en. other than java and c and c++???

  • Hey Jeff, Welcome, just a quick question, I was wondering what ever happend to this contest? https://blog.playstation.com/2007/10/16/a-bounty-of-playstation-schwag-awaits-you-%e2%80%a6-maybe/

Was just wondering what the status is such as, are you guys still sorting through all the entries, or were the winners already announced haha (cause if they were I must of missed that one and I’m going to feel stupid if they were lol)

Anyways best of luck w/ your job here

  • when will we hear anything on socom

  • Jeff,

Please see post 136 and check out the post labeled “We Want 1080 Support for PS3 games past and future (ReBorn)” on the Playstation messages boards under the Playstation 3 General section. There you will see how much of a problem this is and how many gaming dollars Sony is losing out on by not correcting the 720p to 1080i issues.

    Thanks

I have a question, what’s the delay on the PS1 titles?

  • Hi Jeff,

I have never owned a playstation before, but i have almost every other SONY product from shortwave radios to home theaters and PSP etc…

I have to tell you first off that, i have read Akio Morita’s biography and fully respect SONY’s products, their engineering team and product fit and finish and quality.

That being said, i am also a fan of HALO. Having a Hard Disk and Dolby Digital( I am a audio and video nut) make me buy the original XBOX and i grabbed a copy of HALO by chance. I have come to love that game and i made subsequent investments in HALO series and the XBOX 360, just so i can play HALO 3 and nothing else. I feel that its just a upgraded XBOX, nothing revolutionary about it.

But i have been waiting for SONY to release their Playstation, not just for the hype nor competition, but for the fact that SONY decided to take a radically new approach by designing a new processor(CELL), Blu Ray and other goodies that make it the best console ever todate.

The design of the console also was so attractive. It actually is a cross section of a samurai sword, if i am correct.

So i did grab a PS3(40 gig) and i am simply blown away by the power, low noise and other features. I know there are people out there taking a stab at PS3, but i have to tell you that that its an awesome piece of electronics. Computer, Entertainment Center and Network all packaged into one neat thing.

That being said, i feel that there are some add-on’s that SONY can provide that can make this console even fun to use.

    – Messaging.
Sony should tie up with Yahoo messenger or Google talk and interface that with our Playstation Network ID. So we can also interact with NON-PS3 users. Microsoft does this with their MSN network. That software can be provided as part of the XMB(Which is think is one of the most graceful and simple interfaces i have seen in a long time).

    – Utilities

How about SONY write Google Earth for the PC as a PS3 app and have users download it from PlayStation network? I am sure Google will be more than willing to co-operate with SONY on this one.

I think it will be pretty cool to see google earth on your big screen TV and i am certain would be a point of a good fun time with freinds and family before their nice Bravia TV.

If folding@home was a success, why not users give the option of downloading SETI, which is also same conceptually as folding@home, but yet looks for alien signals. Though not enlightening or urgent as folding@home it is something that users can run if they choose to.

Last but not the least, having read reports that PS3 memory at 256 MB is limiting, i think SONY should eventually just upgrade the boards to 512 MB and give teh developers more breathing room. Though this might setback a lot of money, i think eventually thats what will make this console hard to touch. And talking of development, i might be too naive here, but having worked with software for a while now, i should point out that, SONY should buy out or partner with Borland Inc. Borland writes the best software development kits in the world. Maybe Borland can be entrusted with the task of writing some very friendly and optimized compilers and tools for the PS3, that will make more developers embrace the PS3.

I think i have blabbered enough, but i feel good that i got it out.

    Thanks.

  • @Voozi, read comment 87.

    Welcome Jeff.

  • Yeah I miss Socom 3..is there going to be a Socom 5 and then a Socom Confrontation for the PS3??.I don’t get it??…My friends are now only playing COD-4..I’m not much into 1st person shooters but I think I will try COD-4..It does look cool..I did hear back at SCEA by calling there tech support number claiming that the 2.00 patch is finally out for Socom 3?.Is this true??..If it is I will switch back to my PS2!..

  • Welcome Jeff. I noticed that you are replying to alot of the questions/statements that other people were asking/saying. Its great to see that we’re getting replied back to more often. : )

  • Hi Jeff,
As already mentioned, welcome to the melee.

I’m a recent PS3 owner and so far am very happy with my purchase. I’m also a game developer who can’t currently fork out the money for a Sony PS3 SDK, even at it’s half price cost. Though for considerably less money ( about $178 ) I can get a 3D prototype up an running on an Xbox 360 using Microsoft’s XNA.

So my suggestion is, and I’ve made it before, please have a word in Sony’s ear to seriously consider providing an ultra cheap entry level into the PS3 game creation market. There are a horde of untapped game developers out there that can bring Innovative PSN games to the PS3 and maybe even the PSP, but the cost of jumping into the Sony pool has to be relatively cheap and relatively easy.
At least have a look at what the competition is doing and offer an even better product.
Like you have done with the PS3.

I look forward to reading more of your posts in the future.

  • hello jeff welcome to the family, its good to know that someone is reading teh comments and i think i speak for all of us when i say all we want is (in game XMB) and i know you do too, to be able to listen to my misic, message friends that would be the best,, you know if they said iy could not be done then fine but please tell us something….. have a great day

  • This is great, but can you help us PS3 players get our much awaited patch for CoD4? There is like 300,000 of us that would sure appreciate it! Players with other gaming systems have not had to go through what we have had to go through with the multiplayer part of this game. Infinity Ward says Sony is causing the delay of the patch due to needing to be certified. Help us cause the next step if for us to go to our local TV news stations.

  • @Jeff

“@those with suggestions – ok, consider them heard. Announcements will be made when things are official, please stay tuned, and thanks for your continuing patience.”

How bout a lack of patience??? I wont bombard you with exactly how much lack of patience there really is out here in the real world but i’ll sum it up real quick for you and your PR friends…

Sony wants to give us the “Future of Gaming” am i correct in ASSuming that much?

so then why even a year after launch the competitor unit is accomplishing WAY more then Sony can and make better and more games faster on a far less superior piece of machinery

(ie. games in higher resolution, in game messaging, custom music soundtracks and the newest feature to be arriving soon is the ability to look at other XBL members friends list to further expand the online game experience)

when you go to the horses mouth and try to get some sense of where Sony might go with the PS3 namely Eric Lempel the supposed Director of PSN operations i believe it is…you get smoke and mirrors…

you said “This blog is not meant for 1-way communication”

maybe someone should tell ALL the Sony staff about THAT fact.

…we want certain features and get nothing but minor updates that need updates to update that minor update just to get it to work!!!!

and now Sony has you! for what? to feed us some more BS and pass time to try and prolong the agony? or make it look like Sonys trying to open up and be more communicative??

Its certainly not your fault some of us feel the way we do…but someone like you is certainly NOT going to make me feel any better about it…

actions speak louder then words…Sony can feed me whatever garbage they want to try and shovel down my throat…when Sony can put their billions where their mouths are…and finally comethrough for everyone and give the majority what it wants…THAT would make everyone happy…but until then its PUT UP…or SHUT UP :)

    Sincerely,
    Loucifer

  • I are doing a bad job, by far in-game XMB is the most wanted feature and that is pretty clear on the comments.

Did you notice that? Have anything to say? Your friend Eric is the one that said we were going to have it so don’t blame us.

  • Any general release date for those PS Eye demos that we saw in a previous blog post (The one with the lunar lander and the tank game)? I would pay money for those in their current state, from what I’ve seen of them.

  • hi jeff

im from the uk nice to see sony taking an interest. i was wondering what you think of assassins creed, ive just completed it i really enjoyed it, really hope they make a sequal.

bad points for me the mission set got old really quick they need more variety in how you get your information not make us do the same thing over and over. also i was more interested in the desmond bits than the whole altair story( altair is still cool tho).

and in regards to the patch that ubi-soft announced on thier forums (ive had my ps3 hard freezing countless times now usually during important bit, and worried it might mess my ps3 up) do you know if its true and if so how will they distribute it. psn thru ubi website. still i thought it was an excellent if flawed game.

  • this is more than great it is friggin awesome i hope they will just release more news on MGS4 Haze and other upcoming games for PS3. And they need to release the Dualshock in a new SKU PS3 Model that has like a blue and red light and it is used for when your controller has full batttery it is Blue but when it is almost dead it would glow red. They could implement in games like that so make it happen Sony you all still have a few months

  • i noticed home has the avatars walking kinda like Penguins. from the videos i’ve seen everyone kinda waddles left and right. i think thats the only thing i’m worried about with home. can’t wait till it comes out.

  • Welcome … and good stuff!

  • i may have placed that comment in the wrong place. i’m glad thats someone listens to the gamers!

  • Sorry to repost :

Also, are there any plans to provide some kind of casual game creation studio like Microsoft’s XNA? I would love to see something that would allow me to make games that could be shared over the network. I know there was a question about Home regarding making those arcade games, and that really intrigued me. You can give a console a lot of staying power by giving users the power to create content, and LittleBigPlanet is a big step in the right direction.

  • Hi Jeff,

Good to see this is two way communications. Also that the posts are monitored. I’ll say welcome and with the way you write you will do well here.

Also I bet your Santa Clause, all the people here posting their wish lists, make me think Christmas is a round the corner. OH, IC. It is. Still this is a welcome thread, not a chance to derail it.

  • Sony’s Blog Gets a Full-timer | GameCovered.com PS3 Gaming News

  • Rock band / Guitar Hero 3? Is there anyway sony can push these to to be nice with each other? specifically get GH’3s guitar to work with RB? Any news on this front?

  • Hey Jeff, welcome…my first time leaving something but not my first time reading…Seen a ton about the PS Podcasts on here…I know you’re not really able to comment on specific details and I’m not really going to ask YOU to….
but an idea for the PS podcasts would be to:

    – add it to the new info bar that came with the firmware 2.00 for download to listen to via media on the XMB

…then maybe once every OTHER week have a planned exclusive for anouncement…just little details on things your guys are working on and not all the details so that way you can gain more listeners, eliminate some complaints and create wonder instead of rumors

Marketing strategics…..be vague enough to keep people intrigued…..not angry and in the dark…

really interested to read your response, thx

  • Poor Jeff.
First day making his presence known and he’s already expected to fix game code, make updated firmware updates, make sure 3rd parties only make exclusives, and deal with the whinery this place has become.
Good luck, Jeff – you’ll need it!

  • Guys,

The fact that XBOX360 has more games than PS3 is not SONY’s fault. There are two issues

    a) XBOX 360 came out way earlier.

    b) Its architecture or atleast the SDK to write those games is not much different from the original XBOX.So developers know the system and are very familiar with its features and limitations. Which translates to less development time.

The PS3 on the other hand is completely different from its predecessors and takes a lot of time to develop. It actually forces you to think different. Take one step more than object oriented and you will understand that it gets complex. No one out there in the computing world has any experience so far writing code for the CELL.

This can only be solved over time and practice and skills not to mention some great tools that are needed to do the job. Microsoft being a Software Powerhouse is staffed with professionals for whom this is bread and butter. But for SONY, their hardware is simply the best but are just starting out on software side of things. So i can only hope that over time, peoples love for the CELL and its complexity will make the hardcore developer take the plunge and take this as a challenge and do something that other consoles cant.

For the curious, you can install LINUX and use the CELL SDK from IBM and see that its totally a different game.

  • Any news on the playstation store network cards?
there is alot of us that can’t download games and add-ons from the store due to the limited creditcard use.

  • hey Jeff do u like chicken?

  • Welcome!

Good to know that someone is actually reading or comments and feedback, and I also really like the PS podcast idea.

ps: Can I add you to my PSN friends list Jeff?

  • Hmm,I always wondered who’s been reading our comments. Thanks for providing the answer to that question!

  • Hi Jeff,

Good to know you guys take our input seriously.

One thing that’s been bugging me is the lack of Mac OS X support in the new Playstation Store. Can you comment on this? I’m sure there are plenty of Mac users who own Playstation products :).

Also, I don’t know if this is a FW problem, but adding a credit cards with expiration dates of September makes my PS3 freeze up…

  • By the way, I really like the new look of the PlayStation 3 and PSP main website. It was a long time coming.

  • they listen and do nothing so what is the difference

  • Hey Jeff, I just want to be able to message friends while in games.

  • LOL, Good luck in your new role…what a job.

  • Jeff, I as well as many of readers appreciate the fact you respond and answer questions on this blog. It is very discouraging when you feel like you are ignored time after time. I am not going to go into what I think needs added, because I agree with most out there. I am just glad to see someone who actually gives a crap. Thank you from all of us!

  • Hey Jeff,
    good luck, and Mazel Tov

  • Welcome to the Blog and thanks for all the answers.

  • One more thing, lol.Good job to all of Sony since PS3 sales have gone up like WILDFIRE.The news is all over the internet. So hoorah for Sony!!

  • @ JEFF

PlayStation Blog is fantastic, much better than what Xbox offers with Major Nelson – all he does is just post costs of downloadable content lol.

One addition I’d like, is that i’ve noticed (i think) there is a limit to how many comments a person can make here. If that’s true, could you make that unlimited because I’d like to have discussions with fellow fans here but I’m limited with the amount of replies I can make.

Also, with the XMB – could you find out for us if the delay in that is due to a technical/hardware issue or a software issue? Thanks for your time and effort.

  • Ah, can we edit comments too because I forgot something. You can’t just be a figure here that says “we’re listening”, you must be allowed to answer some questions from the people here.

We have alot of questions and usually the reply we get is a default PR response like “we’re working on it”. We’d like to know how things are progressing, possible issues, possible delays, things of that nature. Some real insight please.

  • Greetings from Sweden Jeff!
It´s good to hear you guys listen to us gamers. Like so many people have said before, we need ingame-xmb. I don´t know how many times I played a game and felt I needed to use the xmb. Just think how great it would be if you playing a game and get stuck and can use the browser to find some cheats to help you solve the problem so you can move on.
    Keep the power!
