Lair Update

491 0

Wow, even I didn’t see this one coming! Due to an extra step in QA testing to enhance the community features in the game, the release of LAIR, originally set for August 14th, has changed to September 4, 2007. Natural challenges that arose while finalizing the offline game to include key online features – such as leaderboards and medal systems – have led to the difficult choice of pushing back the release date. We appreciate everyone’s excitement and patience for the game and look forward to its release on September 4.

  • ok…

    *bump*

In the end, what it matters is that you have a nice game to play so it is “ok” to me.

    Thanks for the update.

Although I thought that you guys said the game is in production = all test done.

    Anyway…

  • @ Ryan

Can we at least get a new screen shot to go with the post? To quote a Dr. Evil, “Come on, throw me[us] a feakin bone here!”

  • -sigh-
    thanks for letting us know.

  • I’m really TIRED of these delays, every single game for the ps3 gets delayed, i hope this changes with time. So now my only hope is to get a demo this week. Guys keep this in mind that sales are gonna be affected, there are so many good games coming out in september 1 clear example HEAVENLY SWORD.Like i said before i HOPE to see a good demo this thursday to mitigate my emptyness.

  • JUST PUT UP A PSN DOWNLOAD TO FIX IT………… support this idea people!!!!!!!

  • I have a feeling they are delaying this to counter HALO 3. Don’t bash me now, but this is what I think.

  • tis the power of EGM.

  • Indeed. Those scores from EGM were abysmal.

  • Heavenly sword is the best game I have ever seen!!!

  • I dont get it why did egm give lair a 5.5 average? Thats just wrong? Sony is hyping this game so much then why was it given a bad score? By three reviwers?

  • Unless this has something to do with EGM’s reviews…No…. no, why. Ok I want to talk to the guy in charge now. This can’t happen, alot of people right now don’t care… ALL THEY WANT AND NEED IS TO GET THEIR HANDS ON A GOOD NEW GAME. Listen the ps3 has had a drought of games for a while now. The list looks amazing and astounding but patience is killing everyone. Screw the online medals. Come out with an update on PSN to fix this AFTER THE GAMES RELEASE. You can fix this after the games released. PS3 owners need this game asap and have been wating since Motorstorm came out, that’s a LONG TIME. FIX IT WITH A PSN DOWNLOAD PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Patience is killing us, and that’s not good. Ryan Hamlyn, please read this in this blog and take a bug fix on PSN as a consideration, the people in Japan waited a while to get online mode in motorstorm, which was fixed by a PSN update, but were happy with the game. Do the same thing. PLLLLLLEEAAAAASSSSSEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! Now you’ll make us wait for Warhawk to hold us over……………*cry, that’s all the way at the end of the month, you know…. that’s after school starts for me…….*
please heed this….. once lair releases ps3 sales will skyrocket, but we need it sooner than you think. Releasing on the same day as heavenly sword will definitly HURT Lair’s sales too, so consider that. Just plz, myself and others are begging.
People I need support for this to work, all who agree with me say so. This won’t work without the masses..UST PUT UP A PSN DOWNLOAD TO FIX IT………… support this idea people!!!!!!! PS: EGM, is said to be bias * paid by Microsoft *

  • sony you never cease to amaze me

  • IF the only reason it’s being delayed is for community issues, surely you could launch it August 14th and patch it later?

  • oh and i forgot, *bleepity bleep bleep

  • @Half_life000111

I don’t understand why you think putting the same mess with a little different word here and there is really going to make a difference.. all it does is make it hard to read things that actually matter in this blog.

Lair to me is going to be a fun game from what I’ve seen and read and a delay makes me a bit sad but it still will be a day 1 purchase.. just means I need to put my money back that I was spending this month on the game for the next… of course with HS and Lair it will be a matter of deciding which one I want to play more first :P

  • Also perhaps its just me but…Releasing ANY game for PS3 the day Heavenly Sword comes out seems like a bad move..

  • Live for Playstation » Going to have to wait a little longer for Lair

    […] Via Sony Blog […]

  • See, I do this so blog readers will read my point. I need people to stand with me, duh lair is a day 1 purchase but so is heavenly sword…. that alone causes some contoversy for people. Not only this but the sales of ps3 will be affected by this (this game affects buisness for Sony). Not only this but people are getting impatient and agrovated… I’ve dried out Oblivion and Motorstorm to nothing, Resistance is the only thing holding me over. (I own a wii but the game don’t occupy or entertain me at all so my bro plays it). I’ve had lair on my calander for SOOO long and a month long after all the other delays AND AN OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE kills me. I’m pretty sure others feel the same. If a PSN update can fix this why go through so much trouble and trouble soo many people?

  • I am so glad im getting my xbox 360 back from repair 2morrow, i may have gotten the red ring of death, but msoft fixed it 4 free, at their expense, out of warranty, at last i can play GAMES again, not videos, granted its only been gone 4 … 2 weeks but with only ps3 around its been pretty stale in my apartment. y only 3 days ago it wuz the game is in manufacturing, now all of a sudden u admit this “awesome” game doesnt have such a good QA team that they missed this big of a problem till now, sounds like b.s.,.. or maybe the game isnt so hot after all, maybe its just a @#* damn gimmick to sell people on the stupid sixasis, like dare i say, warhawk, do u think the psn will at least have a demo up 2morrow that was promised months ago to make up 4 it, doubt it, u know the one everyone has been watching the press play for the last year!!! whatever, maybe we can pay for blast factor AGAIN, or 3 months from now tekken on line, i have had lair on reserve since launch, i think now i will change that game 2 bio-shock, or mass-effect

  • @Half_life000111
But would you rather the fix be on the disc before it was sent out then use up more HDD space on your current drive.

Yes I know they are easily upgradable and there is still people with the 20gb to consider.

The unit went gold which means there was no “major” bugs but it didn’t stop developers and the QA testing department to finally go hey fix this real quick.

The fixes will not be controls, that would take longer than 3 weeks. It is as they said and when the fixes get changed and the QA has restamped it as complete there will be a new gold version.

My assumption now is this has to do with all the home functionalities that has been changing and they had to revamp the code to match the changes to some of the code home is using now.

Is it a mistake to alucnh 2 good games at the same time… I could say yes but I also lean to no. Seeing as Lair seems to be geared to a niche crowd from what I have gathered from all the forums and webistes I have visited and HS is a different genre all together; I really don’t see it as a bad thing.

To me I only see it as a bad thing cause I am going to have to adjust my playing schedule a bit to fit 2 games in now.. poor wife she will have to suffer through .. hahaha

  • please dont do that with the up coming games i was dying to figh with my dragon and burn some enemy

  • Dang it, this was going to be my last game I purchased before school started. No good games are coming out before then. I guess I will just have to continue playing Super Paper Mario and Trauma Center for the rest of the summer. I don’t get it, you just said it was in manufacturing and now it’s delayed a month. I guess I will hold off until Christmas for this because I only get one game a month unti Christmas: August will now be Warhawk or Metroid, September is Heavenly Sword, October is Ratchet and Clank, and November is Uncharted. Though maybe if I get enough money off my Gamecube I will be able to buy both Heavenly Sword and Lair in September.

  • Oh yeah now Heavenly Sword has been pushed back!

  • Man I would love to pick up Lair and Heavenly Sword on the same day. I have both games paid in full at GameStop. Please dont push back Heavenly Sword because of QC with Lair. If you dont want two games on one day at least move Heavenly Sword up.

  • Oh man, not another game delayed :(. I hope Heaven Sword doesn’t get delayed as well.

  • I’m so disappointed it’s not even funny. I feel led on.

Tell me about ajusting the playing schedule. Oh and I’m a 20 gig ps3 owner (but I slapped 100gigs in it instead of the 20 gigs *personally I believe all 20 gig owners or most slapped a bigger HDD in it*) but ya we all know this is for Home……….. but I would rather 500 mb used on my HDD than wait a month longer. And 500 mb is about all the fix should cost, and that’s like nothing.

  • Yeah Lair coming out the 14th would be brilliant for Sony. YOu have Lair on the 14th, with Madden. towards the End you have Warhawk.. September 4th is Heavenly Swrod ( By it self, no other game to compete with it’s sales! )

  • This ruins the pure, perfectly alligned entertainment lineup for the ps3. First it was to be Lair on Aug 14, then Warhawk Aug 28, then Heavenly Sword Sept. 4, then Ratchet and Clank Oct. 2, then Haze and Unreal Tournament III in Nov…………. why reck this beautiful line up (it occupies everyone with perfect time spacing)

  • I agree with Half_life000111,

It was a good line up as it was. no bad wait for the next good game. Now we haev to wait longer for the first game ( now warhawk ) Than September 4th people will most likely decide one game over the other ( and Heavenly Sword is THE PS3 game, so i dont expect many peopel piock up both. )

  • Will being an avid Final Fantasy player … I guess waiting and delays I’m used to hahaha… so 3 more weeks is really not big of a deal in the grand scheme of things although I’m dissapointed that I will have to wait now cause I thought I would have a game to tie me over until the launch of HS, but what will be will be and there is nothing short of a miracle that we can do about it… it’s ok though I’ve been replaying some old PS2 games that I didn’t complete cause of new games coming out for it .. :P

I’ve had lair on my calander for SOOO long and a month longer after all the other delays AND AN OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE kills me. I’m pretty sure others feel the same. If a PSN update can fix this why go through so much trouble and trouble soo many people? Gamers, “you know what happens when you stay still”…. well that’s what’s happening now. Gamers unite against this!! Wouldn’t you all rather a 500 mb game fix over a month longer of waiting? WELL FIGHT FOR IT!!!!!!

  • People fight for Aug. 14 with a later released PSN update to fix the issues!

  • Yeah at first i was vvrey intrested in Lair an the more and more i looked at teh game and screen shots and preview i got less intrested. Not wth eh delay making it teh same date as HS, there is no way I’ll purchase this game, ill rent it maybe.

  • I’m a serious gamer, and a huge sony lover. Please fight for this game’s earlier release. Day by day goes by where I am beconning to play a new game (one I haven’t beat 10 times over). The patience is driving me mad. I want a PSN update with the games earlier release. My decreasing day count for Lairs release was brightning my gaming future but tonight, that bright future got shot by vice president [DELETED] in the face by a shot gun while going hunting. Support my fight for a PSN UPDATE.

  • Will the SPAMMER please start his own blog?

  • [DELETED] man, i was gettin prepared for August 14th. [DELETED] . but whatever. i guess it’ll be a better game when it comes out in September

  • @Half_life000111

Really man, its just a game!! I know is a bummer its delayed but there is NOTHING you can do. I much rather have the fixes on the printed discs then on download.

I do agree though that delays are not good. Its a huge target much like the xb’s failure rate.

However, I think its also good they are putting more online functions and tie in to home. I mean that is to be PS what XBL is to the 360. So……yeah, It sucks, but its cool….just make sure you get this functionality right or suffer the slings and arrows from your enemies…….which are teenage fanboi’s and G4 :D.

    I kid I kid…..sorta

  • profile-gaming.com » Lair Release Pushed Back

    […] [Source] […]

  • NOOOO!!!!! I was counting down the days for this one. Next up, Madden for me.

  • it better be kick ass…this is just stupid. i’m all for waiting to make it right…but….

  • Leaderboards can be patched in. That’s a joke reason to delay a game.

I’m hoping that the real reason for the delay is that they’re adding back the option for analog-stick controls.

  • This is not good news. And any fan that remarks “It’s all flowery meadows” has been watching too much Team America. Not that I think you can see that movie too many times.

Continual delays with little to no PSN material to assist in enduring the wait makes things difficult as well. A 10 minute demo hardly suffices for the effort of faith PS3 owners have demonstrated time and again. Delaying a game the PS3 desperately needs is abd enough and it doesn’t help that the 360 has several sure to be AAA titles bearing down beginning in September. “Be patient a little longer” does not work. Not any more. Most of us are not angry, just disappointed. You had best open the phone lines and start communicating more. No one’s day is so busy they can’t cough up more than 4 or 5 sentences to remark on the issue, the game, and possibly drop a gem no one knew about. The situation really needs it right now.

In any market you invest your money. But sooner or later you need evidence your investment is paying off. Bungling a gold announcement hardly engenders such required trust. In simple terms, you are dropping the ball. A little honesty and a lot of interfacing with the fanbase will go a long way during these game free PS3 time stretches.

Announcement of a title going gold and then pulling back with an excuse that hardly seems valid was not the move to make. I agree, the game should not ship unless ready. To anyone in game development, off line features being something that holds up a game hardly seems to ring true. Gold Master copies are certified at the end of the Q&A process, not during it.

But the announcement was made of going gold. Apparently that was an error. Fine. The mistake was made. However, rectifying that mistake with another is not the solution. The worst mistake in this affair now is no communication.

A handful of sentences hardly pays for the loyalty that will be needed to endure another 4 plus weeks of relentless pounding by anti sony personnel on forums and message boards, as well as the press. It leaves your fans to look like the town jester or village idiot defending you and leaving them as such is a bad, bad move. If it has to be done at least provide the fans some sort of weapon with which to fight the public opinion wars.

The point is Playstation 3 owners have been maintaining the frontlines for Sony for some time now. Sony’s great show at E3 helped and provided much needed ammunition but most of the weight has been pulled along by PS3 owners and fans of the console. Also, a large number of us have absorbed sufficient Bluray purchases to help boost format position. More importantly we have been slugging it out in the front lines of the message board opinion wars. Does that matter? Absolutely.

Preventing public opinion from completely burying the PS3 is the only act currently standing between Sony and total failure of the PS3. If you think PS3 success can happen without hardcore fans then good luck, you will need it. Also Bluray popularity alone isn’t enough.

Success requires those fans willing to take bodyshot after bodyshot in promoting the good qualities of the console with few games while they still tend to maintaining their confidence in Sony. For their efforts PS3 fans have been continually kicked in the teeth and run off message boards.

And for the love of gaming Sony, stop doing Joystiq any more favors by providing preview copies or interviews. You just become internet fodder for the biggest Microsoft acolytes on the planet. PS3 owners that post there get pasted and often by the mods. It’s insulting to see you curry favor to those that have such a blatant dislike for all things Sony. PS3 fans are attempting to maintain a modicum of PS3 respectability and reading snide comments by Joystiq editors with their love of veiled euphemistic slams of Sony is quite honestly insulting.

It would also do to warn publications and websites that conducting and issuing final reviews based on preview builds will land them in the doghouse. If they want to slam the retail build then fine. But doing so with a beta product is tantamount to lying. Not warning such publications of the implications of reviewing beta copis as finals makes you part and party to stabbing your own fans. You need the press, true. But you don’t need all the press. And they need you infinitely more than you need them.

Throw us a bone and help us help you. You (Sony) are not making things easy for us and commiting acts that press our loyalty to the floor make it harder to maintain the faith for which we are constantly asked.

Try to update the PSN a little more often. I go to IGN, Gamespot, Gamevideos, or Gametrailers and there are thousand of trailers. How many on the PSN? How many other videos? If a website can update news hourly, why can’t the PSN have a news ticker with daily (not weekly or monthly) updated news.

Try talking to fans more. It will take you a long way. We appreciate the blog but days pass and often little to nothing is said. If you can’t tell your soldiers what is going on then your silence encourages dissent within the ranks. Get your act together.

Now there is rumor of Heavenly Sword being delayed. Suddenly the dev blog is dead silent. Once again, try keeping fans informed. Be the company that doesn’t just listen. Be the company that responds.

These continual trifles about exclusivity deals over MGS4 do not help either. Stop BSing, dancing around with your language and set the record straight. If we find out later you were less than forthcoming you won’t be forgiven by a very larger number of fans.

Finally, parachuting a SWAT Team (as Phil Harrison stated) into Epic is all well and good. But you should have sent a couple of people in to fix Lair. It is nice that, unlike MS, you have a vision concerning titles down the road but you had better pay attention to the ones we are supposed to get in the near future or the ones down the road won’t matter.

We have stuck by Sony through thick and thin. We are the faithful and we are the big fans of Sony. It has been a poor harvest to date and the PS3 owners are feeling lean and famished. After this latest debacle Sony needs to step up to the plate and act. Reward loyalty with something besides dead silence punctuated by a handful of whispers.

  • Why do you guys do this??? You know that it’s popular nowadays to hate the PS3 because “it ain’t got no games!!!” You finally have a nice looking title coming up, that YOU GUYS SAID WAS COMPLETE AND ON TRACK FOR AN AUGUST 14TH RELEASE, and you delay it. And why? Because of the review from EGM, and their lack of wanting to try out new ways to play a game? Why don’t you check the reaction from the guys of every other place that played the game (Gamespot, IGN, Gametrailers, etc) because they all said they loved how it played, and how Sixaxis was incorporated. If the game’s complete, and the guys that people trust on game information say they like it, then dammit, it must be a good, finished game. This nonsense about leaderboards and what not is just you guys backing down to the little intimidation that is EGM. You’ve had a lot of negative press this year, so it’s a little understandable, but still like I said before, if it’s a complete game, and the groups that have played it, liked it, then just release it on time.

  • BRING US THE FINISHED GAME… IF NOT WE’LL REBEL THE ONLY WAY WE KNOW HOW:

GOING OVER TO THE NINTENDO AND MICROSOFT SIDES!!!!!!

  • also another thing i forgot to mention is this:

YOU GUYS KNOW THAT HALO 3 COMES OUT IN SEPTEMBER RIGHT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? IF YOU GUYS DON’T GET SOME MORE GOOD GAMES OUT THIS AUGUST THEN YOUR ROYALLY SCREWED!!!!!! SERIOUSLY A GUY LIKE ME WHO ISN’T PART OF THE INDUSTRY SHOULDN’T HAVE TO TELL YOU THAT!!!!!!!

JUST GIVE US THE DAMN GAME ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
