As most of you know, last Wednesday we announced a new exclusive game development deal with NCSoft, the company behind big MMO games like Lineage and City of Heroes. We’ve been getting a lot of questions about it and thought you might be interested in checking out this interview our friends at Global Gaming League and Epileptic Gaming did with NCSoft’s President of North America.

    LOL!!

Yeah! There a couple of reasons:

    – I am tech guy
    – I am bit of a geek
    – I have internet access even in my pants
    – I spent too much on my PS3

Well I believe those are the main reasons.

  • @40cal

LOL! Blizzard and I will get the smaller trophies… If would could fight over them on Home would be great. I’ll come after you 40cal.. LOL! ;-) I’m messing….

  • A date for firmware 1.9 needs to be on a post for TODAY. And if this is true, THANK YOU SONY. My music is eating up half of my HDD right now.

  • @40cal

And the rest are Demos right?

Sorry, I had to to that… LOL

I want to be in the Beta of Home so badly

  • Reeves said that the PS3 isn’t selling well.. Finally, someone from Sony has come to admit it. But I wonder why? Why isn’t it selling so well Sony? My guess would be because of the price that it was at. $599 doesn’t appeal to a lot of people. Whats your take on this also Sony? Don’t forget that I love you guys. We just want some answers!! Aint that right blizzard? LOL!

  • @40cal – 353

If you’re expecting any firmware news today, expect to be disappointed. Sony is good for that ;) This Blog is ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY GRREAT for Sony to tell us the same crap we read on IGN, or to inform us about firmware a couple of days earlier when it’s fully ready and they’re going to release it either ways. Thier PR team is cool, replying on the blogs, saying they appreciate the feedback. AWESOME! But when it comes down to us asking about features that the majority of PS3 users want like in-game XMB or demos, they some how have no answers and are horrible at responding. All Sony does is brag about how they sold 140M PS2s and they’ll do the same with PS3. All Sony does is try to sell consoles, not achieve customer satisfaction. The least they could do is acknowledge it, but since they have no answers, they’ll go back to telling us about how they pwned with the PS2.

  • Damn right!

chosen and 40, add me to your PSN.

    blizzard182

Well, actually anyone who wants to play MotorStorm or NBA 2K7 could add me.

  • Yo blizzard, does Motorstorm support voice chat?

  • Yo the chosenfew88,

    Yes it does.

  • Sort of. I do not have a headset but I hear a lot of people talking on the headset.

If you mean like chat like one on one, then no.

Although I don´t like how it sounds. Maybe people are putting the volume to high or something.

  • @aaquib

Thats tight, then I guess I’ll buy me the game with a headset this weekend. Thanks!

  • If you look at nexgenwars, PS3 just won 1% market share since the last time I have checked.

It might sound bad but it is good. It is moving forward.

As always 360 is going low and Wii (Sadly but true for the near future) is killing both.

  • chosen, I would wait till warhack comes out. It will come with a headset.

Maybe it is just me but headsets are 200 here.

  • @blizzard182

I’ll get on that ASAP. Might be sometime next week though. Hey we just started the HOME BETA. LOL

  • nexgenwars isnt that accurate because its based on a pattern for each one

  • @TMadd

Yeah I know but they update with official numbers every now and then so it is basically the best we have.

  • Enjoy! Guess I’m going to hold off on buying another remote, if Sony plans on adding so much to the rumored Sixaxis controller. Good news!

  • Hey Guys. Wanted to jump back in here and reply to some of your questions. Sorry I didn’t reply sooner, but frankly, after working three weeks in a row getting ready for E3, I took yesterday off to get my car smogged and teeth cleaned.

Let me try to answer some of your questions:

Demos — Heavenly Sword is on the way very soon, so hold on for that. We also have Folklore, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune demos coming to the PlayStation Store over the next few months. Realize that creating demos of games is not a ‘snap your fingers and make it happen process,’ particularly when you are talking about getting demos for games created during the first year in the life of a new hardware platform. Developers would much rather spend their time perfecting their games, than working on demos. But, rest assured we are talking with them daily to try to get these. We are also reaching out to get more third party demos as well.

Firmware Updates — Eric should be posting soon on the next update

PSP Camera/GPS — Both of these are on the horizon for North America. On the camera, we are working to make sure we have the specs that support the needs of consumers in our market. On GPS, we are looking to develop software applications that support its full functionality. Look for other PSP peripheral and functionality upgrades coming soon to match some of the PSP announcements we are seeing in other territories.

PSN Games — Coming soon from our Worldwide Studios to the PlayStation Store: LocoRoco, Snakeball, High Velocity Bowling, Pixel Junk Racers, Ski, PAIN and Everyday Shooter

MGS4 — You have every reason to be excited by this game. What Kojima-san showed at E3 was very cool. We are working hard with Konami to get more information and content up on this blog and PSN as soon as possible.

Did I miss anything? Again, sorry we are a bit radio silent this week. Everyone who works on this blog was fully engaged at E3 last week and is in a bit of a decompression mode right now.

  • These are the only official numbers that I could find. I don’t think that this includes this month though.

    360-10.1 mill
    Wii-9.3 mill
    PS3- 3.8 mill

    Total 23.2 million

Wow there are still over 100 million gamers that have not bought a new system.

  • @Dave

I take my hat off to you Dave.

Nice to know there is someone still reading this.

    Waiting for the next update!

  • @Dave

Thanks for responding Dave. I appreciate that a lot.

  • @ Dave Karraker

Well I hope you enjoyed your time off. It is well diserved. Thank you for the update. Please let us know when you have solid dates for all this stuff. again thanks.

  • Finally we get a response! Dave, I really hope we get in-game XMB soon with firmware update. Why don’t you ever mention in-game XMB?? Will the next firmware have it? Are you working on it?

  • “We also have Folklore, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune”

    Very very nice!

  • @aaquib

I believe those are Eric´s business.

And now, where is Eric? :P

  • No Lair demo?? LOL!

  • Well, since someone is actually answering questions…… I can’t help but ask just one tiny little one….

Is there any work being done to speed up PSN downloads? They’re kinda painful, and I find myself not downloading on a whim. I gotta know I want something before I make THAT commitment…

Great job on E3, especially with NCSoft.. that came out of nowhere. Can’t wait for that to come to fruition.

  • Man, I am happy again.

Sony´s response, Sixaxis with Touch Sense, leech 1.90 firmware..

Today is friend´s day here so I am going out..

    Nice day guys..nice day…

  • @Dave ….so what are you saying. Be patient things are on the way? That’s getting old, where are the dates?

  • @40cal: Dates are always tough to nail down and give out, because as anyone can tell you in software development – they are always moving because the developers always want to make sure everything is absolutely perfect. We will try our best to let you know in advance when to expect these.

@blizzard182: You are most wise. Yep, this is Eric’s territory. I know he is looking to post something soon with a firmware update.

  • We won’t see a demo for Lair because from what I have read the games control scheme has a high learning curve. Don’t want to scare WEAK gamers away now do we.

Oh and it is only 25 days away. 25 days and counting.

  • Any home beta info regarding releases?

  • @tmadd: Still shooting for October for full open public beta roll out

  • @Dave Karraker

I know. Just whenever your ready. Again thanks.

  • so open beta = october?

  • We started the Home Beta today on this blog with comments 358 and 365. LOL

  • @Dave

    October full open beta?

I thought that was the date for the full release.

Nevermind, I liked what I saw at E3 so if it takes a couple of weeks to make it better, its fine.

  • damn..the guy gets on here FINALLY to answer some questions…after he does…you still got more questions to ask…this isn’t an Instant messaging program, if it was…most of them would probably have an away message saying “Idle” or “Work @ the office”

Why not just look at kotaku, psx extreme, gaming bits, or other gaming websites? I get information from other sites as well as this one, i’m sure this blog is the most accurate and all but they don’t reply to every single person as we all can tell.

They are listening just cuz we don’t get an instant reply after you ask a question doesn’t mean they are ignoring us, they had to do E3 and I think TGS is up next!

  • He DID miss something and thats wat most of this was about and thats OXM saying they are getting Metal Gear is that true? Come on Dave you didnt answer that.

  • @blizzard182: Since Home is an online product that is going to constantly evolve, we aren’t calling the unveiling in October a “launch” per se, like you would a boxed retail product. However, it will be fully open to the public at that time.

  • Kratos_ate_Snake

Love seeing red on the comments… More red…. lol

  • aww. Thanks Dave for taking the time to answer the questions.
And I’m glad to hear they’ll post more about the next Firmware Update. But when is it. “Soon” I presume? *Chuckles*

  • @ Kratos_ate_Snake

Same here bro! LOL! Anymore questions people?….

  • @Dno

Dave cant answer that one. That is up to Konami.

  • so wen is the closed beta going to expand like one that GAP members have now going to be available to everyone like by registering on homebetatrial.com
and what about the video of someone from sony saying the open beta for home would be in July

  • Kratos_ate_Snake

Just to throw something out there.

You know what really grinds my gears?

When people say “What ever happened to rumble being last gen…blah blah blah.. Sony Suxs..?”

Well A-holes. Apparently there is a new rumble technology out there, therefore making rumble last gen. so if they include that in the new PS3 controller then I guess they were right all along. rumble is last gen.

And that is what really grinds my gears.

  • We prefer to make our big statements in Leipzig, it suits us much better,” Reeves reportedly told MCV, apparently intimating that E3 is small schnitzel in comparison. “There will be absolute fireworks at peak, that I can promise you. We will be doing things no-one has seen yet for both PS3 and PSP.”

More to come from Europe next month and then TGS. Cant wait.

  • We were stuck in a desert, dying of thirst, waiting to see if someone would come to the rescue. Looking around we would see no one coming. And finally, someone shows up to restore the amount we took in during E3. Thanks Dave for all the questions you’ve answered. Have a great day bud!

  • @Dave Karraker

    thanks for the update
