Thanks Everyone, We’re Listening

I was going to continue to chime in on the comments thread but it occurred to me that most of you would miss this as there were more than 500 comments on that first post, so allow me to simply extend an official thanks to everyone here and outside this blog who have taken the time to share their feedback and support for this effort over the last 24 hours. This is going to be a great and wild ride.

Kotaku, VH1, LevelUp, Joystiq, Destructoid, and 1Up, we appreciate the link love, guys. Likewise, GameCovered, TrueGameHeadz, GamingBits, and Opposable Thumbs, we heard you too and we’ll try to address some of your questions (and expectations) over the next few weeks. And please, Andrew, we read your stuff religiously; the last thing we want to do is to compete with your blog. We even got an official welcome from our industry-friend the Major, which we appreciate.

I’m going to get out of the way now and let others here share their posts, but please continue to comment and email us with your thoughts, cares and concerns. We’re reading everything (cough, korlithiel) and trying to respond to as much as we can (cough, whatthegeek), so bear with us. There’s much more to come….

  • Jess D – that’s true,

    I now own a Wii

i’ve invested alot of money on PS2 over the years, Buzz controllers, microphones, dance mats, eyetoy, steering wheels, not to mention games for the kids

I feel PS3 has let all the younger gamers down by pricing anyone under 12 out of there new console.

Anyway it’s now all being sold on Ebay, i’m cutting my losses.

  • GREAT SITE!!!
I’m glad that this will give Sony users a place to provide feedback and to get official word from Sony.
Degenerating into my ‘Sony Prayer List’
I think as far as most of my wants are listed above I will add only one:
    – A Blu-Ray DVD remote that can replace my existing remote controls for my other AV equipment (Learning Remote ++++:)

  • 4. Build up a “Your World” application/tool on the XMB that we can configure to show us things like the weather forecast, RSS news feeds, etc. Yes, this could be done in a web browser, but, we’ve got this great High-Definition platform, why limit ourselves to a 2D web presentation? What would be _really _ great is if we could access at least some of this information while still in-game. Every morning I check the weather forecast, as well as the Sony forums and general world news before I leave for work. Give me a compelling reason to use the PS3 to check this. It already boots _much_ faster than my computer…

GREAT IDEA NILES… i would be more apt to turn my ps3 on every morning if there was something like this. as it is now, i only have it on to fold and play resistance. that will of course change when some games come out.

demos of the psn games would be great. i dont want to spend money on a game only to find out i dont like it…. thats what demos are for.

  • Wollan #45- Great post, I completely agree with that. Would be extremely expensive for Sony to reduce the prices to that amount or even $399, but can you imagine sales of the console combined with the heavy hitters coming out at that time? I don’t think they’d be able to make the consoles fast enough to sell them.

  • wow Niles .. wow. nice.

the only thing I think would be a waste is a gametrailers.com like thing .. since you can just browse to it but this brings up My Idea! (well its more of a rehash) .. but anyway .. a Browser favorites access from the XMB .. it has to be SUPER easy to do and i would probably use my ps3 browser a bit more now.

speaking of ps3 as a PC … sony bluetooth keyboard/mouse thing .. ive been eyeing the logitech one but am holding out since its about this time that new stuff gets announced (or was that E3).

  • Keeping up wtih the daily updates like this will make this blog great, some exclusive news, info wouldn’t be a bad idea either. I think it would be a mistake though to use this space as a way to advertise and shove the PS platform down our throats most of us that are coming here already loyal to the PS brand we don’t need to be advertised to, we just want honest discussions, and for our suggestions to be listened to by devs etc.

  • Not sure this is something you would want to look into, May Kay Cosmetics is all about PINK. I know this becuase my wife is into Mary Kay, and there is pink everywhere. My wife also uses my PSP alot to watch movies and what not. It might be something to look into.

  • nice to no we have some one to ask for things thanks sony

  • Sony,

I doubt you are really listening.
As a Sony loyal customer and owner of PS1, 2xPS2, 2xPSP and PS3 purchased on the day it came out (not counting LCD TV, HD recorder and many more gadget) and having spent thousands of pounds in games I feel I have the absolute right to express how I feel.
I think PS3, as it currently stands, is an absolute disaster. Your arrogance and belief that people would just ourchase it, no matter what, has created a situation where the PS3 is the machine selling the worst across all new generation platforms. Lack of exclusive (GREAT) titles has encouraged people not to bother with purchasing a PS3 or go for a 360.
What is worst is that the machine is selling discretely well in Europe (certainly better than in America and Japan) and we are always the one waiting and waiting for new releases to come to us. We are the thirld world of videogames when it comes to releases.
Take the PSN for instance. If you manage to connect to the american of japanise one you will find plenty of new updates, releases, demos etc. Here in Europe it takes weeks to see something new available. At best, you get a couple of videos to keep you happy. Well, I am not happy. How come a simple game like Calling All Cars has come out in the America but is taking so long to get published here. We share the same language, the game is a downlodable product so I struggle to understand why is so difficult to have worldwide releases, especially for downloadable content.
In terms of games, the release schedule for the next couple of months is so poor that I want to cry. I had to recently purchase RAILFAN to have something new to play and I am now going back to the PS2 which is still capable of delivering some great games.
I wonder… Have you not noticed that the machine is selling really badly. Yes, things may (or may not) get better in the future but, so far, you are struggling to convince people to buy it. As a result of that developers seems to have lost confidence in the machine hence multiformat releases. You have recently lost esclusives titles such us Devil May Cry and GTA. The net is full of people, analysts and developers criticising you for your poor strategy. Is it not the time to fire every one in your PR depts. and start a new leaf?
Is it not the time to have a strong and aggresive strategy to help you become one more time the market leader?
How many more PS3 you need to see sold on EBAY to understand that people are NOT HAPPY????
I will continue giving you my loyalty but you must be aware that time is running out and if things do not change quickly my PS3 will be the next one to be available on EBAY.
Get your bums off the chair and start to do some good hard work to get things going and instill confidence in all games who still want PS3 to succeed. I am one of them but, as I said, time is really running out.

It is time to get some good news.

  • @derrickgott007, it took about a day before mine showed up… Being a Sony’s blog, I guess the waiting game also applies to the avatar :-D

    It’s a JOKE people. I know Sony isn’t hosting this blog…

  • Hi patrick, great work with this blog. I congratulate you guys on this. I have one concern though, and i hope you and jack both see this. The problem is communication to the general public and casual gamer. Only the Hardcore will see this blog, just as only the hardcore knows pf the true potential and connectivy of the ps3/psp. Sadly, we’re not the ones buying new systems and our influence can only reach so far. What I’m saying is, you and I and everyone here knows all the capabilities the ps3 “currently” has, and even at this stage, it blows the competition offerings out of the water. An aggressive ad campaign and outreach must be taken by the company if a true turn-around is expected. you’ve got all the functionalities there, the public just needs to know about it. How about brouchers and tutorials outlining the upscale and dnla abilities be sent out to the general public based on demographics (i know u have the tools I work for the company that provides them to you). Just yesterday i had to tell some ps3 friends of mine about some of the new capabilities of 1.8. these were all launch owners, as soon as i told them, they were wowed and immediatly began to spread the word. that’s all it took. what about an agrressive ad campaign on tv, quickly outlining the functionalities with a quick link at the end pointing to a web site that outlines all current and future functionalities, right now that can mostly be found on forums and thats not good, cause the average gamers don’t go there. have many more suggestions, but please, get the word out there.

  • i would like to see more demos of games THAT ARE NOT YET RELEASED! the pool is bone dry and its summer. there has to be at least one blockbuster that will soon be released that you guys can give us a sneak peak at. please my ps3 is begging for attention, and right now its grounded.

  • Since you’re listening – can you please make Twisted Metal; World Tour available as a downloadable game in the PSN store? Man, I loved that game.

  • I’m excited

  • Just would like to know if there’s any chance of seeing sequals to these games
    The bouncer
Tenchu- some thing way different from the crappy xboo360.
    genji 3
kill.switch- it had the right stuff but fail.

If someone have and idea for a game who can they speak to in your company.

  • Like korlithiel mentioned, I have have to strongly agree that it would be great if our logins for GAP, PSU, PSN could be tied and/or unified. Thanks Sony for listening! :)

  • Well, I doubt you have much influence on this, but an invitations system for GAP would be nice, like what Goggle did with the Gmail beta. Each user has a limited amount of invites they’re can send to their friends. In GAP’s case, it probably shouldn’t be more than 1 or 2 per user, and maybe only after having been a member for more than a year, to prevent bots from exploiting it.

  • I know its a bit much to make the comment section of every post into a “sit on santa’s lap and say what you want” situation, but since we seemed to have slipped into that habit already, I might as well tell Santa what I want as well. PSstrore through PSP pretty please?

Well now that i got that out of the way, the blog is awesome. Great seeing that you guy are really putting an effort into this, and support from the rest of the tech blog world couldn’t have been more positive. If this blog remains anywhere near as active as it is now in the future, expect me to be a regular.

  • Congrats Sony. Good luck on the new site.

  • This was a really good idea; making a blog.

  • I would like better support for Apple routers (Express, Extreme) For one, ever since the 1.8 update I get signed out of PSN every 10-15 minutes (I’m connected wirelessly, my signal strength is always 100%) This is NOT an issue that my router or setup is causing..due to the fact it worked great with EVERY other FW version except 1.8 (I once played resistance 8hrs with no disconnects)..So please this needs to be addressed, I can’t play any games online anymore..

Secondly I would like the PS3 to support Nat Port Mapping Protocol (NPMP) This is apple’s proprietary format (That apple routers use) which is very similar to UPNP (apple routers don’t use UPNP)..Although I get nat type 2 without opening any ports, This may become a problem down the road when more features are added..

  • Please improve the weekly PSN updates, they’re seriously lacking. What about 3rd party demos? Why is it taking almost a month for videos to make it to PSN after they’ve been released to the media? Why do we have seven or eight MLB07 trailers, but no demo?

It’s a good start, but things could be much better. MUCH BETTER.

  • The PS3 browser does not support a lot of flash players. It would be great if more dynamic content can be supported. Actually it would be even better if you can get firefox to run on the PS3 without Linux … but I guess thats too much to ask :)

  • I hope you really think about what we post like comments for further ps3 subjects and take action! thanks 4 the oppurtunity

  • I love it all!!!!

  • No disrepespect to all the Sony people posting but it would be nice if you can get more game developers to post updates on here. People like David Jaffe, Dylan Jobe, Cory Barlog. Also I can’t wait to see the reaction once Phil Harrison makes a post lol (hint: save it for E3 Sony).

ps. Release Super Stardust HD already please!

  • Glad to see there may be a chance for us the consumers to diolog with the creators of some of this hardware.I am a loyal PS fan I have owned all of your consoles except psp and have weathered the bad times and good ,bad times being right after releasing the new consoles, good times being the years to come. At this point ive put enough money into the SONY brand i kinda feel like I and others have baught into the company in a way. That being said i would really like to say also that im happy for the move PLAYSTATION is making to look to the future of gaming and development. However these firmware updates need to be addressed,it gets real upsetting to see there is a new update and to download it only to lose almost half my access to the network. And to watch countless PS3 owners scrammbling in the forums to fix this issue temperaraly until the next update comes out. Maybe as a suggestion if the new updates that come out require the PS3 owners to completly redue every setting from there PS3 to router you might update aswell the online users guide to help those needing to make these changes so they to can benifit from the new updates. I myself ever since the 1.80 firmware update have had no access to the new media sharing ,my headset now doesnt work and any ps2 games i play cannot connect to servers for more then 8 minutes. I have contacted playstation costomer sapport and still havent gotten a reply to that email, ive contacted my ISP,my router company and everything works fine and is set right except my PS3. somthing there isnt right and no can figure out what, but prior to the 1.80 firmware update it was running like a dream. Now that Ive wrote a book let me sum this up. Im loyal and im not going anyware but please for all of the people who havent been able to injoy there PS3 since the update but are willing to bite there tounge until its fixed. Get someone on this problem and stop sending us downloads of “THE BOSS” until you get these far more pressing issues taken care of . If you can do that youll keep someone whos always faught for the SONY name very happy . thank you and Im sorry this became a book.

  • Is there any chance of a PSP keyboard? A full size stowaway keyboard, such as the type you can get for the Compaq iPaq would be ideal.

If such a device were made available, perhaps the PSP could be revitalised as a business tool for emailing and surfing. Perhaps some software developers could then also develop basic applications for interacivity between PSP and PC, such as for Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.

I’m sure that many PSP users would find a keyboard a very welcome addition. (I’m also certain that I’d be the envy of all my laptop using friends in the local WiFi coffee house!)

  • Don’t for get gamespot :P

  • Thanks for the shout out (Gamecovered.com) means a lot for a upcoming gaming blog to gain at least a little recognition for its labour, excellent site guys, keep up the good work.

    ThreeSpeech to.

    Thanks!

  • Great job guys, I am really proud to be an owner of the PS3 and other Playstation products.

About the PSP keyboard what Arrgee said, I think is a great idea, a wireless keyboard would be a nice tool to have.

  • Dear SCEA,

Please give us more content on the PS Store. Having 1 movie trailer per week simply isn’t enough for me to warrant even looking at the PS Store.

We need multiple updates per week, game demos for EVERY PSN games, and by golly more PS1 games!

Hopefully your Movies/Music download service comes soon so i have no reason to go elsewhere to rent movies (that aren’t even in HD)

    Sincerely hope someone is listening,
    TONX

  • How about some sweet demos to show off what the PS3 can do? I am not talking something huge. Just some quick little projects to show what we can look forward to in some games?

  • eeeeehh oooh !!
great job? you are dreaming, and i have a dream too :
    – PSN full of trailers, especially baseball trailers. MORE TRAILERS PLEASE.
    – Don’t give us a game demo, no, we want trailers of the teasers of the games.
    – Shutdown PSN Europe, not enough trailers. In fact we look at US/JAP PS stores when we need a trailer.
I bought the console, i am satisfied because of PS2 games. I can understand that things are not easy as they seem. If you are doing some effort, please stop now and look at another direction –> DEMO. Stop insulting your early adopters please. bisous ;)

  • thanks for this great Blog SCEA , all i need is more PSone classic games on PSN for PS3/PSP , you know guys ..it’s easy , sony’s games like Crash Team Racing , Moto Toon GP , Alundra , Ape Escape , Gran turismo 1 and 2 , Wild Arms ..ect ..

also ..why not to put some PS2’s greatest hits on one Blu-ray for PS3 ? like ICO and SOTC or God of War 1 and 2 togather in one Blu-ray disc …or even a whole series like all Ape escape or Twisted Metal games in one blu-ray for 50 $ ..i will buy them

  • WHERE DO I COMPLAIN ABOUT THE EMBARASSING LACK OF CONTENT ON THE PLAYSTATION STORE?

Please someone post something about the lastet store update so that we have a place where we can go to express our frustration

    Thank you

  • Whats up with the weak PS Store updates?

  • i loved sony since day one and i will always love them forever, im glad they care bout what we think.

  • If you are listen, PLEASE update the PSN store more often or with more items per week.

Where are the Gamer’s Day videos? Where is The Darkness demo? Where is the Rainbow 6 demo? When is the Lair demo coming?

Why are you guys not taking advantage of the PSN store like you should? What’s the hold up?

  • Hey good job on providing great content for the playstation store. I love waiting every week to go check it out and see exciting stuff like MLB the Show video # 67 and re watching trailers for games that i seen a month ago. I mean why would i want demos when i can watch 20 sec game trailers over and over all day. I also love waiting for updates to the only worthwhile games on the system (resistance & motorstorm) only to be delayed for a week, then 2 weeks, then a month. good job, thats gotta build hype right? But my favorite thing is when im playing resistance and someone sends me a message so i quit the game cause i have to go the XMB to view their message. Thinking they wanna play with me only to find out they just wanna talk about upcoming games(what else is there to talk about). good times sony

  • IGN just broke the news that the Motorstorm 1.2 patch has been delayed yet again… Isn’t this the kind of news that has to be posted here first to be effective?

Keep up the good work and maybe post some EU facts and newsitems too…

  • Are you still listening or did we blow your ear drums out?

I’m so disappointed with the PS Store right now. Last week I was angry, this week, I’m getting pretty ambivalent to whether these updates come or not. I’m about to the point where I’ll probably just stop playing the PS3 games I have, which are coincidentally, the ones that are due for updates, and try and find something else.

    KNOCK KNOCK?
    Who’s there?
    PSN store content.
    PSN STORE CONTENT, WHO?
    *silence*

You guys thought you were getting a lot of comments on the topics you already posted? Try posting one about your PS Store updates. I notice you’re hiring for a Content Manager. What are the hours? 9AM to 10AM on Thursday mornings.

It’s a frickin disgrace that a global billion-dollar company can’t put up more than a single game trailer in a week. I could do a better job downloading trailers off of websites around the web and using software to transcode them to .mp4. How hard can that be???

  • Update the PSN Store. Stop updating this blog and update the PSN Store. Jesus, is it that difficult? Why are you blogging? Update the PSN Store you morans.

  • Personally, I don’t think we need full XMB access in game. Also I doubt it’s possible…

But the point is, all we really need is a much better menu when we hit the PS button. It needs to have the friends list, which would allow us to send messages to friends, see who’s online, and most importantly, send them an invite to join the game you’re currently playing (only if it’s online of course though, lol).

I love the idea of Home, where you can invite other users into a game. But I want to be able to do it from within a game, using the PS button. That is something that makes sense. I don’t know why it hasn’t been done yet.

Ah well.. Maybe someone will hear my cries and act on it. :)

  • Could we please get some competent people hired to do the job of Updating the PSN every week..

Week after week we get nothing but a couple of trailers if we are lucky. Where are the PS1 games? Where are the resistance and the motorstorm updates?

I’m sick of seeing a damn MLB 07 video every thursday when i check out the store.

Please do something to make the PS Store a worthwhile thing to look forward to every week!

  • updating the PSN.. sure.. but guys.. the service is not that old… I’m dissapointed – but hearing George Bain at Nordic Game talk about Sony pursuing world licenses, instead of regional as we see on the Xbox 360 and knowing how much work licensing actually is, then I’m not that worried about the future of PSN. Hard work, yes… Uphill, Indeed, possible? absolutely!

But I am worried also to hear that translating / localising the individual games, for each country in EU, is some what a problem. In denmark our second language is English, wich is taught at school at 3rd grade (3. year in school) and throug the rest of the “folkeskolen” 9 yeras, 6 with English lessons.

We don’t need everything localised. We just need the games. So i’d like to see Sony not take so much effort to sending out the games to all countries in PAL at the same time. But letting through english versions for the countries where it would not serve as a problem.

Back on track though. It’s troublesome to hear that gamepublishers/developers aren’t thinking about demos for PSN. I don’t know the reason, but a lot of users are probarbly annoyed about the lack of info on the future about 3rd party releasing demos and more gametrailers on the PSN….

But I just hope that it will be settled in the coming months.

  • yes we need full XMB access in game
    this is next gen right?????????

  • It’s been long enough Marty McFly. Why don’t we have The Darkness demo on PSN?

Can Sony at least tell us what 3rd party demos are coming this month? Why is it soooo hard?

  • psn i understand its new but come on

  • Yeah it would be great chase.. I don’t disagree with that. But I’m almost certain that it’s impossible to get full XMB access in-game, since vital system resources such as RAM would be needed, and the developers are using all that for their games. It just isn’t physically possible. However, what is possible – Is my idea of having a better menu for when you hit the PS button in-game. This new menu could just give us the things which matter most when in-game. Like friends list, messaging, game invites, etc.
