Quantic Dream’s neo-noir thriller Detroit: Become Human hits PS4 on 25th May

Your actions will decide the fates of three androids in the French studio's sophisticated new adventure

We are proud to announce that Detroit: Become Human now has an official release date. On 25th May, you will finally have the chance to get your hands on Quantic Dream’s most ambitious title to date.

In a dystopian vision of our near future, Detroit is the story of three androids, three machines designed to obey, who start to feel emotions. Confronted with persecution and the violence of society, they will all have to decide who they want to be.

Connor is a prototype designed to help human investigators on cases involving androids; Kara becomes a fugitive by empathising with a little girl, united in their dream of freedom; Markus will become the leader of the android revolution.

The player will control all three in turn, taking control of their destinies, and telling not only their individual stories, but also the story of their people and of their world.

Detroit is by far the most ambitious title ever created by Quantic Dream: with this game, we wanted to push our limits by creating the most bending game we have ever made.

Your actions have real and spectacular consequences: there are entire scenes that you can see or miss based on your actions, your closest allies may help you until the end or die just after you meet them, your destiny itself can be totally different depending on your choices. You must also be very careful with your three main characters, because any of them may die at any time.

Each story is almost as unique as your DNA: it is the result of the choices you made, the minor ones and the important ones,  because in Detroit, all choices matter. You will need to observe, think, decide, feel, follow your intuition or your heart, to tell the unique stories of each character, and their stories will become your personal story.

Detroit explores many complex themes that resonate with today’s world. Of course, it is about AI and the role of technology, but it is also more than anything about us, about our society, our dreams, our mistakes, our hopes. It is about what it means to be human: is it just about having flesh and bones, or does it mean more than that?

This game may be seen as controversial as it explores a number of sensitive topics that some people may consider inappropriate or taboo for video games, but maybe this is the most fascinating aspect of Detroit. We hope that it sparks some meaningful conversations and we’re looking forward to hearing what you think about it.

In order to depict the world of Detroit, we have also developed the most spectacular 3D engine we have ever created.

We tried to push the limits of the PS4 as far as we could, with hundreds of highly realistic characters, full performance capture, scenes featuring crowds, all with a level of quality that we had never reached before. We have also imagined a new way of playing a story entirely based on direct game play: discover the unique features of androids, be in the shoes of an investigator, chase deviants on rooftops, interrogate suspects, fight, all in direct control and in the context of a complex story where any of your choices may have consequences…

With Detroit, Quantic Dream presents its most accomplished experience, a spectacular and unexpected journey full of emotions, twists and turns, dangers and hope, in the most bending story we have ever created – where every choice matters.

We hope you see Detroit as a unique experience that echoes some of the challenges our world faces, and maybe it even resonates with your own personal life. More than anything, we hope that Detroit will leave an impression on you, and that you will remember for a long time the story of these three androids who wanted to be free…

  • Can’t wait, looks great.

  • Gonna buy, might even pre-order, and I don’t do that very often. I love you Quantic Dream, in my opinion you’re very next to Naughty Dog if it comes to story telling and that’s probably the highest compliment I can pay. I’m looking forward to play the hell out of this long awaited title, and I hope it will make me laugh and cry like Beyond did.

    • not a patch on Naughty Dog for having actual fun gameplay with the story though. These tend to be very well done CGI movies with smatterings of lousy excuses for interaction in various places.

    • @Carnivius_Prime And yet Quantic Dream’s games still have better “gameplay” AND consequences to your actions than any of Telltale’s games and people always gush over them.

Relax, if its not your kind of thing, just don’t buy it. The game will go on to sell a million units in no time regardless, instantly selling better than any exclusive released on Xbone since Gears of War 4 nearly a year and half ago. Imagine arguing that being spoiled for choice is a bad thing.

  • This has all the signs of a great experience!! Can’t wait! Great work Quantic Dream!

  • I have a to do list and this is on there, Just Patiently waiting.

  • Yes can’t wait for this game

  • How long will the game be? Beyond and Heavy Rain were gripping stories and technically speaking, incredible accomplishments, but lacking in actual content. I am really excited for this game but not sure it’s worth the launch price.

  • Good info.

Looking forward to playing this one.

  • Can’t wait for this game, looks incredible!

Any news on Special/Limited Editions? Need to get that pre-order in early :)

  • With Far Cry 5 releasing the same time, it’s gonna be tricky deciding what to play.

    • Last I checked, Far Cry 5 releases in March, so in 27 days… But Ni No Kuni 2 releases the 23rd so I’ll wait for a sale on FC5…

Those and my backlog should hopefully hold me out until this game releases. Great date imo, was kinda worried there would be nothing new to play in those months. Definitely didn’t expect my most anticipated game :)

    • FC5 is coming on March 27th. Detroit ist coming on May 25th ;)

    • Ahh, for some reason I read it as May. Well i’ll be occupied until then.

  • Why are PS4 exclusives now costing 69.99 on PS Store instead of the usual 59.99?

At least give us the option to buy the standard edition, like USA Store does.

Stop forcing deluxe editions on people.

    • Because people are stupid enough to buy them at that price when they could get the physical edition from Amazon for much less.

    • is smart buy game on disc it’s much cheaper than digital that’s fact

    • I agree, where is the standard edition? Don’t really want to buy heavy rain again (even though it’s great)

    • I feel this is the only reason digital hasn’t killed physical, physical is nicer as a collectors you can own/trade it in/lend and its cheaper, despite delivery and production cost it is cheaper, I don’t really understand why. Digital would at least has a nice convenience to it, but it has too many negs for me to ever want to buy of the store unless its a sale or digital only item.

  • SOOO EXCITED!!! That’s sooner than I expected too! One of my all time favorite developers and this looks like it’s gonna be their best game yet with the sci-fi influences. I already know this is going to be one of those best and defining games of this generation for me, like Horizon and Witcher 3. :)

  • Can’t wait for this. These type of games are rare, and highly cherished. Bring it on!

  • Really looking forward to playing this game hope there’s gonna be a special edition as that would be nice

  • This looks superb, been hanging out for a release date :) Quantic’s stuff is always interesting, fave so far has been Two Souls, but Detroit looks like some next-level stuff. Awesome.

  • Will be getting this game but glad won’t see it again at E32018 so meant got left see at this year is Spider-Man , Days Gone, death standing , ff7 remake , KH3 and last of us 2

    • There is very little chance the FFVII remake (episode 1) or DS comes out this year. Both directors take a long, long time to do anything.

I’d kind of not be surprised if both became PS5 releases instead.

    • Yeah I think the same but still hoping for ff7 before 2020!

  • Awesome, now we just need Spiderman and Days Gone release dates for before September 2018 and that’s the next few months after May sorted. ^_^

  • I pre-ordered a year ago through Amazon. ?

  • Super excited for this game gotta be a pre-order!

  • Dear Sony, what about those people who alreaday bought Heavy Rain and don’t want Digital Deluxe version? Where is our regular version like in American Store?

  • I just really hope, they will focus more on story instead of non-sense qte for everything.

I really dont mind having interactive movie. With some gameplay in some areas. You dont need to emulate gameplay by making each door opening minigame that reguires several buttons and stic gestures. It does not add anything. Add qte over cutscene will not make the cutscene better.

  • “because any of them may die at any time.”

Oh cmon. This was promissed with the Heayv Rain too and we know how it turned out… Can I really kill all three character in the first scenes they will appear in? Why I dont believe it?
