Young Horses’ quirky indie hit goes portable on 26th May
Back in December at the PlayStation Experience, our friend Gio Corsi let everyone know that, with the help of Sickhead Games, we would be bringing Octodad: Dadliest Catch to PlayStation Vita.
Today Young Horses is happy to announce that on 26th May you’ll be able to take Octodad on the go!
With the release of Octodad: Dadliest Catch on PlayStation Vita we’re also introducing a couple of new features we think both current and new players will enjoy. First of all, Octodad will be available as a Cross-Buy title, which means that if you’ve already purchased the game on PlayStation 4 you’ll automatically have access to play it on your PS Vita!
Although we won’t have Cross-Save support, we have added a new set of trophies to the PS Vita version of the game to give you even more opportunities to achieve the impossible with your normal human hands.
Another cool feature is the ability to play co-op locally using one device. With Sickhead Games’ help, we managed to stuff in enough control for two players (one on each side) to wobble your favorite dad through everyday life while rubbing shoulders with a real life friend.
We’re excited to share this cool new way of playing Octodad and hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
This game about this normal looking dad looks good fun. Not sure what’s so unique about it though?

How will the controls work on this one?
Pretty similar to how they work on PS4. Though, in local co-op mode you can use the back and front touch screens too.
Also, you may want to change the date to the 27th in the article. The Store updates on Wednesdays here.
Pretty sure they changed it so the store can update any day globally now.

So lemme get this straight Fred, the EU Store will update on Tuesdays from now on? (unless the publishers have the choice to release their games later this week)

Awesome news, I thought I’d noticed a few game trickling out on tuesdays over the past couple of weeks.

When will we hear of something new from Young Horses? Completely new Game? Octodad 2? New shorts? Really liked playing octodad on ps4.
We’re working on a new game right now, but it’s still in early development so we’re not ready to talk about it yet. : )

Great news, this game has kept crashing for me on my few tries on PS4 so hopefully it’ll behave better on the Vita during my commute gaming time. =D
Sorry to hear that. Is your PS4 copy fully updated? We sent out a few patches to fix things over the past year or so.

You have got my money, just hope the game doesn’t stutter. Say which game engine does Octodad use? Is it the Unreal Engine or Unity?
We use a mixture of things. Irrlicht open-source rendering engine, PhysX for physics, FMOD for audio, and the rest is all our own stuff.
What’s the frame-rate like?
For Vita it sits around 30 fps. There are some drops, but we did our best with the folks at Sickhead Games to balance the amount of fun physics hijinks with the framerate so that the experience was as close to the PS4 one as possible while not being a lagfest.
Hope you guys bring more titles to the Vita in the near future.
