PlayStation Plus in February: Transistor, Yakuza 4, Thief, Rogue Legacy, more

Stylish PS4 adventure Apotheon and PS Vita platformer Kick & Fennick also inbound

Hi everyone! As the nights are still long and days a little chilly up here in the northern hemisphere what better way to keep yourself entertained than with a fresh batch of PlayStation Plus games. We’ve got a real mix of treats for you this month…

New on PlayStation 4

First up this month on PS4, rich 2D action adventure set in mythical ancient Greece. Apotheon takes you on a journey to the top of Mount Olympus where, as humanity’s last champion, you must pass through the land of the dead, infiltrate Mount Olympus, and end the wrath of the Gods. With sword, spear, and shield in hand, you will sneak, conspire, loot, and battle your way through majestic palaces and chthonic depths as you climb towards godhood.

Next up a game that IGN, Game Informer and Edge all rated 9/10! Transistor is a sci-fi themed action RPG that invites you to wield an extraordinary weapon of unknown origin as you fight through a stunning futuristic city. The game integrates thoughtful strategic planning into a fast-paced action experience, melding responsive gameplay and rich atmospheric storytelling.

New on PlayStation 3

First up on PS3, a dark adventure in the form of Thief. A rising tide of fear in The City has led to hatred saturating every stone and whilst the rich prosper, the less fortunate face misery and repression. Into this shadowy world steps master thief Garrett. Square-Enix’s franchise reinvention features intelligent design that allows you to take full control, with freedom to choose your path through the game’s levels.

Also on PS3, an open world adventure set in the criminal underground of Tokyo. Yakuza 4 lets you play as a variety of characters whose stories are all cleverly woven together in one big conspiracy. Which story will you follow first?

New on PS Vita

Coming to PS Vita this month, acclaimed 2D platform adventure Rogue Legacy. You must traverse a procedurally-generated castle to uncover the secrets of your cursed heritage. You have only one chance though, as there is no redemption from death. Do you have what it takes to uncover your family’s history and redeem its honour?

Finally this month, Kick and Fennick – an adventure about a small boy with a big gun! Soon after waking up in a desolate but colorful world, Kick meets a small flying robot named Fennick. When Fennick saves Kick from a menacing guard robot, they find out Fennick’s battery is broken. Together, they embark on an adventure to the Core Tower to find Fennick a new energy core.

    • >> I enjoy this month’s ps+ update.

    • >> I don’t enjoy this month’s ps+ update.

    • The results above just go to show that when the content offered is legitimately good, people will offer the proper appreciation.

    • Nice to see this poll back! I voted “I enjoy”. Second month running! Nice to do so, as had gotten quite used to voting the other way.

    • I don’t enjoy it, because i have the games i am interested, not because they are bad.

    • I think Rogue Legacy alone will be worth it!! Transistor should be pretty sweet too!! I have no real complains over this month’s offerings!!

    • @Andrefpvs: Yeah, the Sony fanboys who defend the bad PS+ months are pretty silent right now! This is an example of a good PS+ month, they should keep it up and we’ll be happy and make sure SCEE knows that.

    • Silent why? I like this because of Apotheon. Not really much of a change compared to previous months.

    • A little bit above the comment section to the right. See that? Use it people! It’s a bit hidden in plain sight in my opinion and I like that I can see both up/downvotes. But I think those buttons are more efficient to the blog team. Use those along with these new “comment section polls” that you guys are making

Anyway, great lineup. I wish Thief would be on PS4 instead but oh well, awesome month nonetheless

    • @Porcupine: I’m strictly talking about the insufferable Sony Defence Force going “YOU’RE ALL SO ENTITLED SHUT UP SHUT UP YOU ALWAYS HATE WAAAH! DON’T LIKE IT DON’T SAY ANYTHING!” when we call Sony out during a lacklustre sale/PS+ month.

You can’t see them today, because February will be a good month and out of 4 people, 3 people like it and 1 person dislikes it. That’s an excellent ratio, so the Defence Force has no ammo because there are a lot of satisfied customers now.

      Play Yakuza 4!

    • Nah, Yakuza isn’t my thing. Good for those that wanted it though.

    • @zalwelgoedgaan i assume you’re one of those people that thinks no one else should have an opinion, i don’t defend sony to the hilt but i’m not silly enough to forget that gaming is a luxury and not a right, if i don’t like the price of a game i shouldn’t be going around complaining about it as i don’t have to play it, i just want to play it, same goes for plus, people didn’t moan about xbox being pay to play online but now sony has it they treat it like all the value comes from the free games, for me the best months are the ones with games i either haven’t played or wouldn’t normally play, the months with big AAA titles put me off as i buy them when i want to play them instead of waiting for them to come out for free

    • I like it. I am so hyped about Apotheon because it’s a game which takes place in Ancient Greece and I’m Greek so…. :)

    • Its great to see so many of you showing support (724 thumbs up and counting). Often people complain but forget to congratulate when things are done right.

So Alphaembryo do you enjoy this month?

    • @TVR-77
Well, thanks for asking; I certainly enjoy this month. Looking forward to playing Rogue Legacy!
So, it’s one more positive vote from me!

    • I think the point is there are good and bad contributors on both sides of all the arguments on here…and we could do with less of the later.

People throwing around terms like ‘entitled’ and ‘cry babies’ whilst offering little else but self-righteously patting themselves on the back…are just as useless to the conversation as those that threaten to trade in their console and go to Xbox, or worse, those that demand the sacking of blog team members because they don’t like prices on the sales or the IGC that month…or whatever the reasons and threats/insults may be…we could simply do without it, it’s not helpful and only serves to cloud the issues with what generally amounts to community infighting.

No-one is perfect, I’m certainly not and I’ve been guilty of having a rant at times too, but I do try and be polite and helpful, or at least have a proper conversation about the issues. We’re probably all guilty of having a knee-jerk reaction or getting a bit fed up and having a rant from time to time, but like I said, we could do with less of the pointless, inflammatory posts.

Good month, but for me almost all of them are, I usually defend the IGC as I’ve always felt I get value for my sub…and I like indies! :)

    • zalwelgoedgaan

This isn’t a good month, at least not for me. I’m not going to criticise Sony though as generally I am happy with the IGC. In short I am hereby defending Sony for a bad month.

    • >> I will enjoy this month’s ps+ update (ノ ̄▽ ̄)ノ~~~~{恋心}
Transistor (PS4) and Rogue Legacy (Vita) for me. Finally.
Perhaps even little something-something for PS3.

    • @zalwelgoedgaan What are you talking about???? They are all here right now giving praise. Like many other people have stated right now, where are the moaners who like to moan for the sake of moaning.
Case and point, “mario__4__life” never showed up here to say A SINGLE THING and the only positive thing that ever came out of his mouth was “buy rogue legacy, its awesome”. Not even a peep of praise from him when we get it for free. There are more comments here on this post then there was on last month’s Plus update and it was as equal an awesome month too.

      @RedMustang72 Well said.

  • Folks, please play Yakuza 4. Introduce yourself to an amazing series. Good going Sony, make sure Sega gets some money for the Yakuza franchise. Excellent month!

  • Absolutely amazing month!

Yakuza 4, Rogue Legacy and Transistor are 3 amazing games!

  • Slightly off topic but useful recommendation / reminder to active ps+ users, regarding the following games:

    –Don’t Starve
    –Hotline Miami
    –Thomas Was Alone
    –Dead Nation

If you have put those games in your download list when they were offered as part of the IGC, and you are still a ps+ member, go over to the ps store and ”buy” them again for free. In most of the above cases, the state of ownership will change and the games will no longer be tied to your sub, but they will be yours to keep forever. In some cases, you get to keep the free game for the console that is bought for.

    • You could also get Jak & Daxter trilogy for Vita through this method.

    • And i think the same happened with Spelunky.

    • Sorry for triple reply: also for Rainbow Moon on Vita.

    • I can only confirm this happening to the games that I have provided above. For this to work, a version of a game for a sony console needs be added to the store after the game is added to the IGC list. So, I think this is not the case for Rainbow Moon. But it could be the case for Jak & Daxter trilogy and Spelunky…

    • I don’t think I’ll ever get around to play any of this but thanks for the info. Also, you sure type quite fast xD/

    • NO issues with any of there here- all still “purcahsed”

    • @Sicmay
I provided a tip for these games not to be under a subscription but to be yours forever. Check if you have every version of the game (I mean for every console possible at the store), and you are good to go. :)

    • Yes it does work as Alphaembryo said, i already had bought Hotline Miami like that. Good info on the others games!!

Regarding Rainbow Moon it came as crossbuy to IGC so no need to do the trick!

    • Also, to check the status of a game, go to:

      Go to MEDIA tab.
If there is no expiration date for a game, then the game is yours.

    • This is the good kind of off-topic! Good to know, although I doubt I’ll ever get around to it. Keep us updated on these :d

    • resogun and dont starve vita were the only ones that said free and I could add to basket. others said purchased and download so still with expiry, or with hotline unavailable for purchase.

    • Dead Nation, Hotline Miami and Rainbow Moon didn’t work for me. For Jak & Daxter Vita you have to add each of the game separately not the trilogy bundle. Spelunky is free for PS4 and Vita.
      Thanks @Alphaembryo @Lance_87

    • Thanks for the tips man ! Was very helpful as my subscription is ending (very) soon and I won’t be renewing any time soon. I ‘purchased’ all the free games over the last 2 years, but some how forgot to download the free games in October 2014 when they gave away Spelunky, which is my favourite game on vita so far…slightly disappointed about that.
But anyway, what other games can we get this way ? For some games, it clearly says ‘Free’ and I can purchase them. But some games show the price and also ‘download’. So, how do I know which games work with this method and which games don’t ?
      Thanks again…

    • @kgoparaju
”what other games can we get this way ? ”

Well, I think we covered every possible game that can be obtained through this method (and you can keep forever).

If there is not the ”free” indication on an item you are trying to get (from the list I provided above, with the addition of Jak & Daxter trilogy for Vita), then my method does not work anymore (so, dont try to buy it, or you ll get charged). But I confirm that the above items are in my download list, with no expiration date, only using the above method.

  • As a Vita owner it’s certainly better than December was…

    • Anything is better than Woah Dave, which I think is probably the worst plus game ever.

Kick and fennick looks a bit “meh” but Rogue Legacy is genuinely awesome

    • Woah Dave is the second worse game after Sportsfriend, only multyplayer and no online, unless ofc you are talking about Vita only.

  • When did Vita got a AAA game last time ? :/

    • Vita games on plus are clearly an afterthought now. Anything to fill the slot.

Last proper Vita game on plus I remember was Dragons Crown

    • There are no AAA games on PS Vita, or on any handheld for that matter.

Most high-profile games on handhelds are more like AA games.

AAA games have €25+ million development budgets. AA games are more like in the €5-25 million range. Games like Until Dawn, Tearaway, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Puppeteer, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Wipeout 2048 are AA games.

    • If you really think that Vita has no AAA games, you should look harder.

    • @ Rochala

I think we might not be on the same wavelength for games that we consider ‘AAA’.

It depends whether you consider games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Killzone Mercenary etc AAA, but to me those are closer to ‘AA’.

AAA games are Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed, Battlefield, Halo, Uncharted etc, games with massive budgets, big marketing presence, and generally of consistent quality. Generally big production values.

    • Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, Kiillzone Mercenary, Rayman Legends, Resistance: Burning Skies, The Sly Trilogy, The Ratchet and Clank Trilogy, The Walking Dead Season 1 and 2, LittleBigPlanet, Angry Birds Star Wars, Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation, Child of Light etc.

    • If you put it like that yea, but still my point is that Vita has got a good-retail-non indie-non remake game for a long time.
There a lot of good games out there, but honestly I believe that Sony doesn’t wants to pay for something better at Vita

    • @Cyrske
You are right, people need to stop using this AAA for everything that is not indie :/

Handhelds are place for AA games, and it’s not a bad thing! Though… the problem is that we don’t really have any AA games anymore. Most of things which are coming are B or A.

    • The Vita is an afterthought now you mean.

Also no AAA on handhelds- look at the 3ds- Nintendo still support that with games like Zelda and Smash Bros

    • Persona 4 Golden is my favourite ps vita game :)
I doubt we’ll see that on ps plus anytime soon though, I wish more people would give it a try.

    • @Cyrske

I’m slightly worried about your original post regarding AAA games. Defining ANY game by it’s budget of development is a seriously worrying trend that I am seeing in many places now. Not only are people utterly obsessed with review scores from (cough) perceived experts on videogames on advertising funded websites like IGN etc but now what originally was used to define an actual Gameplay experience is now being used to explain financial outlay by a developer?!?!?!?!?

Almost every handheld system has multiple games that are considered across a broad spectrum of consumers of differing demographics to be system sellers and the Vita absolutely has a plethora of top notch gaming titles. I’m not trying to start an argument or defend the Vita what I want to get across is how dangerous internet forums can be. The whole term of AAA has actually harmed the games developer community more than a lot of people even realise. So many devs now gone because magazines then internet websites told everyone through constant hype to only really focus on 5 games a year. Everyone reading this knows that they personally love a game they purchased thought of as a 4 or 6 or something by some hack with a keyboard. AAA can only ever truly mean the experience and even then that’s completely subjective to personal taste. It has to be stopped being used now.

What started out as a simple hobby in the 1970’s has become a race to define everyone, everything and place all of that into a score based order. I trust no-one but myself on if I like a game because taste is different, opinion is wide ranging and nobody, you or I are qualified to determine exactly what the right way of doing anything is. Again I have no problem with you or those who agree with you as each to their own but too many times I pass on by these conversations without at least stating how people who call themselves gamers seem to be moving away from the actual point of it all.

Play the games, focus on the fun, leave the numbers out of it. The industry will take care of itself, always has, always will.

    • I really wish, Sony would flood me with japanese gamingculture on Vita through PS+. In Europe they are way too exepensive. -.- Why I should pay 40-60€ for a game, that costs in USA and Canada 10€? Just because japanese games here are US-Imports, because nobody publish them here… -.- Some publish them, like IdeaFactory, but EU version costs more than US version, because they think british pounds and Euro are 1:1 the same. … Im so sad, you cant imagine! … nepuu… :(

    • @Cyrske – why are you using home console standards towards handheld games? It’s ridiculous to do that. These are different products, different markets, the costs of development are different as well. Killzone: Mercenary, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, ACIII: Liberation are AAA handheld games. Claiming anything different is ignorant, these are not home console games. Using costs of home console is just as valid as using the costs of hollywood movies or the costs of development of a new model of a car. It makes no sense and is totally pointless.
And by the way, U:GA is better than U1, KZ:M is possibly the best entry in the franchise, so there is that…

  • Very great month!
cant wait to start my first Yakuza game!

    • Take your time, don’t rush through it. It’s a story driven game with a lot of side activities and it’s all very authentic to the Japanese (mob) culture.

The beginning is a _tad_ slow, but once things get going and you get the feel of the brutal combat, you’ll stay hooked.

  • God, this took you guys forever…

  • If anyone complains about a month that gives Transistor, Yakuza and Rogue legacy needs to get their head checked.

Apatheon and Kick and Fennick look pretty good as well.

    Really good month guys. Thanks

    • Tried Transistor and didn’t like it, maybe I should give it one more try.
My only complain is that Vita hasn’t got a big game for a looong time.

    • I’m complaining because for the third month in a row I already own the good games. Oh well you win some, you lose some.

  • Rouge legacy is the best game I played last year so enjoy people.

Transistor I bought and not really played.

Everything else I’ll give a go thanks.

  • Great choice though. Too bad I have pretty much all the games.

  • Best month in recent memory!
Can’t wait to try Apotheon and Kick and Fennick. Thanks!

  • Thief on PS3 is a waste of a spot, but everything else is looking good! Great month.

I mean — Transistor, Yakuza 4, and Rogue Legacy, all at once. Wow.

I just wish SEGA would release Yakuza 1+2 HD over here. I don’t want to start the series with Yakuza 3 or 4. I know there are recaps, but I prefer playing the games, not reading about them.

    • In Yakuza 3 you have a very good summary of the principal events in Yakuza 1&2

    • I agree with Andrefpvs – developing emotional relationship between the player and characters take time. Watching some short films won’t do nothing. SEGA & Sony need to partner up more and bring Yakuza 1&2 HD Edition here. It’s a must.

  • Finally a great month!

You guys have no excuses not to play Yakuza 4 now

  • I almost bought Thief in the recent sale but I didn’t cause I knew it..Man, I would be furious right now, but lesson learned the last time I bought something as part of the deal of the week and two weeks later it came on plus..Good month, hope you keep it up. Although, let’s be pragmatists, next month is going to suck xD/

  • Great month, thank you ! :-)

  • Happy with Thief and Yakuza 4. Was hoping Thief would appear someday but was hoping for the PS4 version. But still good it’s on PS3 anyway as I get to play it. Not excited for the two PS4 games but will play them anyway when I get the time. Will need to try complete Thief before Evolve is released and after that will be too busy with The Order 1886

  • Great lineup! I hope Thief will also be available for the PS4!

    • Knowing sony, it will be for you yanks, but not for us. You got Dragons Crown on PS3/Vita, They only gave us it on Vita. A game that really feels better on the big screen too!. Thief, from what I’ve seen, isnt great though, still, would have been nice.

  • You guys outdid yourselves this month, excelent ! Only nitpicks that I have is Thief being on PS3 and not 4 vita and only having 2 indies again, but considering one of them is Rogue Legacy, let’s let it slide this time :) By the way guys, do I need to play Jakuza 1,2,3 to understand 4, or can I just jump straight in ?

    • There is an optional summary at the beginning of the game where each previous game is recapped briefly to get you up to speed. Although, if you can get your hands on the games, they are definitely worth a shot!

    • thief was never on vita… i wish they’d done it crossplay with ps4.

    • Whoops :D I kinda swapped “vita” and “and” … Now it sounds that I want more indies and Thief for vita … damn those typos xD

  • @ Chris Howen from SCEE, PS+ content manager

You should decrease the value of PS+ and provide less games imo.

PlayStation Plus is way too much value imo.

72 games per month for just €49,99 per year. Say each game costs €5 normally, then that’s €360 worth of games for just €49,99. That’s WAY TOO MUCH VALUE.

This is devaluing games and poses a threat to the perceived value of games. It poses a long-term threat on the video game industry of the viability of games if the value gets decreased so quickly.

    • The proof of this devaluation is that you see a lot of people complaining about PS+ games. It’s because they have been conditioned to have high value expectations and this devalues games further.

    • Shut up, youre getting over €300 worth of games for €50 and youre complaining about getting too much. Who does that?

    • Erm…no. Used games didn’t kill gaming, neither will these sub’s. People are happy to pay around the £40 mark for a bran new game which is roughly the same as the PS1 days.

    • you really haven’t think this through. What do you think it’s going to happen to all those millions of subscriptions if they decrease the value of Ps+..There are people like me who’re only paying for Ps3..It’s a little bit more complicated than you could possibly comprehend..We’re not talking about 49,99 each but about a huge sum of money and someone could argue about the value of the games given in total. Also, dude, where the hell are you coming from. Seriously, like the guy above/below said, who does that?

    • @ m3gaman2020

No need to be hostile. :)

You’re right, complaining like that fro a consumer perspective might be stupid. But say, if I would like to still enjoy games on the very long-term like over 10 years, then I think it’s becoming somewhat concerning.

You know what I mean? If PS+ is de-incentivising buying games at launch so much, that it has an impact on game sales. And thus games sales, have an impact on the amount of games being made, then it’s becoming relevant for me as a consumer, because it means I’ll have less choice and diversity in games because of the games devaluation.

    • It’s funny because the comment after my comment here illustrates the issue of devaluation and de-incentivising of buying games early.

    • Damn, hit the like button by mistake! Change its position please! Reply button takes priority! :p
Anyway, are you an Xbot in disguise? Is that it? Or is this some kind of reversed psychology thing?
Besides, who’s to say these games don’t make more out of their PS+ deal with Sony than they normally would? The reason people buy these kind of subs is because of the value, not the lacking thereof Oo
Even if you never like any of the games on offer, it’s still far greater value than what you would normally get for that amount. Also keep in mind these games are never really yours, just for as long as the sub runs.

    • xD
Sure, how about making online gaming free? It would be zero € for zero games. Fair deal.
In the age of pre order DLC and broken at launch games with micro transactions on it, people are claiming “too much value”. The long term threat is there… but it isn’t what you think it is.

    • For me ps+ is decinding factor for buying PS4, because games are very expensive.

    • @ Cyrske – 72 games IF you own all three platforms; I sure don’t. And a game that you would never dream of buying is not necessarily worth anything to you, not even €5. At the moment I think PS+ is a good deal if you own all 3 consoles. I think it is not currently a great deal if you only have a PS4. Until the inequality of treatment between PS3 and PS4 platforms lessens considerably, the only thing Sony should decrease is the price of PS+ subscription for non PS3 owners!

    • Cyrske, are you trolling this site? Cause you sure aren’t thinking about what you’re posting here. PS+ devaluating the value of games? How come? These are all older games that cost next to nothing at the time they hit PS+. Moreover, giving the game away for free is a massive incentive for people to buy DLCs for them – I know I’ve bought many DLCs to games I’d never even buy in the first place. Also it serves as great ad campaign when you are about to release a sequel.

Additionally, if a game is worth 5 Euro, its value when given though PS+ is not 5 Euro! Don’t forget – you don’t own PS+ games! If you buy a game for 5 Euro, you own it. If you get a game though PS+, you are only allowed to play it until your sub expires. That is a massive difference and you can’t put the same value on games obtained this way.

If Sony continues to dish out months like the previous two ones, I’m gonna stop subscribing. I can go back to buying used copies of AAA games – the price I pay for it yearly is the same as the sub, the difference is that Sony won’t see a penny out of it. This is the only real impact PS+ has. It hurts used game market and allows Sony to get money they wouldn’t get otherwise. It’s a genious business move that you just don’t understand. They increase DLC sales, devaluate the used game market and earn extra money. PS+ has absolutely no impact on new games sold, as the sales of games show – they haven’t budged since PS+ was introduced. PS+ isn’t an alternative for people who buy games day 1 for 60 Euro. It’s an alternative for people who buy them on the cheap years after release.

    • It is a bit more complex then simply stating not getting the full retail price is not gaining a profit. First of if the price for a product is to low then the product will be percieved as cheap and invaluable this is due to us being severely flawed as humans. Price a product to high and less people are likely to buy it just for sits and giggles. Basically selling 15 million units for one euro gains you a bigger profit then selling 30 million units for 20 cents and 5 million units for 2,50. Finding the correct price point and the correct budget during the development to balance that price point is in a good working capitalist system a never ending always fluent task.

Playstation plus has 8 million subscribers to the best of my knowledge giving 6 games a month for 4.16 euro if Sony where to hand down all the money equally that would be 69 cent per game per subscriber which sounds low. However you do the math and see how much 8 million times 69 cent is. It is rare for computer games to break even over a longer period of time and chances are that there will never be a profit however with figures like the one above many games will be pushed out of the red and become profitable. both the 4 euro 16 and the 69 cents are rounded down in favour of Sony therefor those bits of money floating in between times 8 million would already be money gained giving them in reality access to a budget like this and on top of that i am sure they are not socialists and do not just pay the same amount for every game.

Lastly a developper does not have to comply and sell out to Sony. :)

    • Said a person without PS+ subscription.

  • Hrrm, just bought Transistor in the sale at the start of the year. Knew I should have waited.

This does happen quite a lot though, and it’s actually making me lean towards not buying a lot of games I would otherwise get due to thinking “I’ll just wait until it’s on Plus”. I thought it was a great move when you announced three months of PS4 games in advance, made me excited about what was coming and made sure I didn’t buy Swapper – which I was really interested in getting – and instead spent my money on other games.

    • It goes like this:

New Game A: Wow! I’ve been a huge fan of this series for a long time/this new game is my dream come true, I must buy it and play it day 1!
New Game B: Hey, this new game I’ve never heard of before looks cool, I might give it a shot when it’s released.
New Game C: I’m interested in this game, but it is not really high on my priority list. I’ll eventually get it.
New Game D: Not sure if I would like it, I can’t afford it and there are many other titles I am excited about.

Depending on your budget, New Game C and D are Plus material.

Yakuza is one of my favorite series, so I will buy Yakuza 5 day 1. Yakuza is my New Game A.

    • I feel your pain man. It’s not just that you already paid for it, it can make or break your PS+ month too. This month wouldn’t have been nearly as good for me if I already got Transistor, for example, while now it makes it lean more toward a good month. It’s a pain but yeah, can’t win them all..

  • Yowza! Great selection. I already have Transistor (and Theif doesn’t insterest me), but the rest looks great.

  • So that’s it for the AAA titles on ps4 then is it? Back to Indies from now on. Haha that didn’t last long. I knew it would be too much to ask for that to keep going.

    • Atleast they both look pretty good (although that’s subjective ofcourse) and Transistor is a bit more expensive than the regular Indie but I would be lying if I said I didn’t want a AAA on the regular.. To be continued, I guess? :p

    • Honestly i don’t mind, Rogue Legacy (why are people calling it rouge?) is amazing, Apotheon looks promising and Transistor, well, i kind of feel is overhyped but i’m willing to give it a try.
I hope that at least one of the vita/ps3 is crossplay so that we get 3 games instead of only 2…

Oh, since i know that this will happen:

Someone complaining: “2 AAA games for PS3 and none for PS4, why???”
Defense force: “Because PS4 has less AAA available and PS3 has more!!!”

Correct me if i’m wrong, wasn’t Thief 4 released at the same time for both plataforms? Yeah….

Ps – Not saying that Thief is better than the 3 indie games being available next month, i thought the Thief demo was boring…

    • Because IT IS too much to ask for. It’s been out for a [MODERATED] year, and you expect them to start giving you retail-games? That’s just [MODERATED].

  • I will support Apotheon with full payment. They deserve.

  • So, back to Indie baddies and 2€ bucket “AAA”? Nice, really nice.

  • Really happy Apotheon is coming next month, I’ve been waiting for it since the announcement!

  • Excellent update! Things are improving these last three months. Don’t let up and keep adding a few big titles here and there.

  • After many months I can finally say this: Great work Chris and team!! ;)

  • Aaaand another useless garbage for Vita. Thank you Sony, I don’t have to renew my subscription.

    • Rogue Legacy is great game !

    • I don’t think so.

    • Why are you writing about something if you even do not have plus ? You are just another hater and nothing more.

    • Well I guess you just don’t like games. Maybe it’s time you packed it in.

    • Martas668: I said “Thank you Sony, I don’t have to renew my subscription” so you’re correct, I don’t have Plus subscription. And you’re right, I’m a hater, I’m hate that the Plus used to be a great service but nowadays it ridiculous. But have fun with this indie “games”, play a lot with this Rouge Legacy, Whoa Dave (lol), don’t forget to try OllieOllie 2 (LOL!!) and other shi… masterpieces.

  • Kinda wish Thief was for PS4 rather than PS3 :(

  • Wow you’ve hit it out the park this month. Great month, can’t wait to play Transistor especially.

  • Great: Rogue Legacy, Yakuza 4
Good: Transistor (thought it got hyped a bit when I played the PC version), Apotheon (love art and setting, no idea about gameplay)
    Meh: Thief, Kick and Fennick

Can’t complain at all, a very solid and well-rounded update. Though I’d still wish we’d see some RPGs! (I consider Transistor to be an Action-Adventure.

  • Another good line up!

I might have to give up on guessing future PS+ games on the PlayStation forums, I never guess a single game correctly lol:D

  • If I had PS3 I would enjoy this month’s Ps+ games. But I have IndieStation 4. Seriously guys, I’d like to get one game, but much better than these. Hopefully February has only 28 days.

  • I’m certainly happy about getting Apotheon for free! I’ve really been looking forward to that game! And I’ve been keeping an eye on Kick and Fennick as well, since it reminds me of Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank in some weird way – so it’ll be nice to get that game for free too.

Sadly though, I already have Rogue Legacy (Don’t really get the hype about that game to be honest…) and Transistor, even though I haven’t played the latter yet. (I’m waiting for Bastion to be released on PS)

I’m also definitely going to try Yakuza, as I’ve heard nothing but great stuff about that series. And I’ll probably give thief a go too.

Overall, a really great month for those of us who own all consoles! :D

  • Yakuza 4, Thief and APOTHEON (I was looking forward to this game, seems freaking sweet), this is a great month :D
Any way of upgrading Thief to PS4? :p that would be cool

  • Will Thief be for PS4 as well?
If so this month is much better!

  • O no I have already bought Transistor.

  • Already had Transistor, Rogue Legacy, Yakuza 4 and Thief but this is still a great month. Good job, Chris!

  • Nice month espcial for the PS3 users,PS4 not AAA games bat very god this time.

  • Here’s a wee Public Service Announcement for all the complainers.

Indie isn’t a meaningful descriptor for a game. Saying that you dislike ‘indies’ is an statement with of zero substance. A game’s method of distribution or its developer-publisher relationship tells you nothing about a game. When the word indie is used, this is what it is describing.

    So to recap:

“I dislike the February PS4 update because it’s all indies” – MEANINGLESS
“I dislike the December PS4 update because I don’t like fighting games” – MEANINGFUL

    • Okay, so you want a meaningful reason, well although story is the most important thing for me, I don’t like playing a game that looks like belongs in the Sega/N64 era of video games. We’re in 2015 now not the early 90s and games on the ps4 should look and feel like they are meant for the ps4, seriously I’ve seen mobile games that look and play better than 90% of these Indies on ps4.

    • Several points:

1/ N64 games are among the best ever released.
2/ There’s lots of great looking, and great playing mobile games.
3/ Transistor is 2.4GB, renders at 1080p and has high quality audio. It wasn’t possible in N64 era, unless it was heavily downgraded….
4/ Injustice: Gods Among Us (if heavily downgraded) could have been done on a PSOne. Yet it’s allegedly a AAA game. What’s the difference?

This anti-indie meme is nothing but snobbery.

The devs behind Apotheon spent three years of their lives making it, the least you could do is try it (without having to pay any money!!!) before dismissing it.

    • Indie games are great but they are a nice little bonus at low price on PSN , even lower on Steam.
Practically with these Sony doesn’t bring any real value behind the subscription on the ps4 which is mandatory for online gaming unlike ps3,while the whole service is still unstable

    • in a sense is like Sony is telling us…stick with the ps3 ;)

  • Great selection. I already picked up Transistor in the sale at Christmas and of course, its STILL a great range of games ^_^

  • Great month. I wanted to pick up Transistor, it will be good for free.
    Apotheon looks interesting too.
The Ps3 games are great too, but I have them already. And for PSVita, Toukiden would’ve been better, but it’s okay.
A tip for PSVita free games, there are a lot of japanese games for the console it would be great to get those like Danganronpa, Project Diva f, Hyperdimensiona PP etc.

And guys, if you don’t have it already just download Yakuza 4, support Sega. Can’t wait to play 5.

  • It’s times like this I wish I had a PS3. Not played either Thief or Yakuza 4 before, and would really like to :(

  • Yay, Transistor! Already got Yakuza 4, Thief I wouldn’t buy, but I’ll give it a try anyway, and Kick & Fennick looks great! Thanks, great month!

  • This is unreal! I was planning on buying Apotheon and Transistor is a masterpiece. I was also going to buy both Thief and Yakuza 4. And Rogue Legacy is fantastic! Thank you!

  • Knew Transistor would come eventually, so I’ve been keeping away from it until now. This has made me pretty happy, it’s not usually the kind of game I play, but I’ve heard good things about it, so I’ll definitely be getting it.

  • Awesome games I must say

  • Why no Thief for PS4 as well?

    • Maybe it’s selling better on PS4. I don’t think Square will give us a free game if people are buying it.

    • European_Gamer makes a fair point, but actually I would be amazed if Thief sold better on PS4 than PS3.

    • Dr_Manhattan73, then it may surprise you to learn that every cross-gen game released since the PS4’s launch has sold better on the PS4 then PS3. That’s one of the reason’s more and more developers and publishers are very happy to stop developing for the PS3.
