Splitgate 2 Alpha out on PS5 Feb 27, features 8v8v8 Multi-Team Portal Warfare

Limited time release of 24-player mode ahead of full game launch later this year on PS5, PS4.

Here at 1047 Games, we’ve been hard at work on Splitgate 2 and we are absolutely stoked to bring the next evolution of our free-to-play, fast-paced shooter to PS5 and PS4 this year. In Splitgate 2, every player can use portals to outsmart opponents, making movement strategy as vital to your success as a steady aim.

Since our start as a school project in a dorm room, we’ve been a studio that cares deeply about not only developing a game, but also developing a community. That’s why we’ve incorporated player feedback from earlier playtests into every aspect of Splitgate 2, and in today’s State of Play, we announced you can experience the fruits of that labor with the release of a Splitgate 2 Alpha, available on PS5 on February 27.

It’s also your first chance to experience Multi-Team Portal Warfare. We took the portal-based FPS fun of our core 4v4 arena modes and elevated it to a groundbreaking new 3-team, 24-player battle, all set on a huge, out-of-this-world map (for real, it’s twenty times bigger than our biggest map yet).

The Multi-Team Portal Warfare modes are what I’m personally the most excited about in this Alpha. I still love our arena modes, but these new 8v8v8 brawls of chaotic fun are my favorite thing we’ve made so far. During our weekly playtests, I never want to stop. If you’re a fan of action-packed shooters, I think you’ll love it, too, but your feedback is crucial. We’ve been listening carefully to players from earlier playtests and we’ve already made improvements to our game mechanics and level design, especially portaling opportunities across our maps. This Alpha is your opportunity to shape the future of the game—but it’s only available for a limited time, so don’t miss out.

In Splitgate 2, you’ll play as an elite Ace, a futuristic athlete competing in the most popular sport in the galaxy. In your arsenal, you’ll not only have some of the sickest weapons you’ve ever seen, you’ll have a portal gun. We’ve also got unique abilities, equipment, perks, and more, all designed to keep each game exciting and fresh. So, for example, say you’re trying to capture the Hotzone when an enemy throws down a Smart Wall and opens fire, you can counter by opening a portal and flanking them from behind.

While we work to bring this game we love to the next level, it’s also important to us to stay true to where we started: a portal shooter with amazing movement and incredibly satisfying gunplay that’s fun as hell to play. To that end, we’re continually adjusting based on feedback from internal and external playtests to make sure that our portal mechanic, killer movement, and unparalleled gunplay remain at the core of what sets us apart from every other FPS out there.

Our founders, Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian, first started working on Splitgate in 2017 as a college passion project they made in a dorm room (the dorm’s address is where our company name comes from). They did a soft launch in 2019, it came to PlayStation 4 in 2021, and the rest is history.

I joined the growing team at 1047 Games shortly after that, and I can tell you from firsthand experience that the dedication that they bring to the studio every single day is contagious. Ian, Nicholas and the rest of our dev team have been working nonstop on Splitgate 2 since 2022, and we can’t wait to share what we’ve been up to with the world.

Splitgate 2 isn’t just a game; it’s a community. Seriously, come say hi to us on our Discord, and one of our devs will reply—and there’s a good chance it will be the CEO. Whether you’re playing casually or competing at the highest level, there’s a place for you in our arena. Splitgate is a team sport. Come have fun with us.

Join the PS5 Alpha February 27 to March 2 and be sure to wishlist for when the full game comes to PS5 and PS4 later in 2025.
