New Price Changes for PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal remote player

Prices effective starting April 2, 2026.

With continued pressures in the global economic landscape, we’ve made the decision to increase the prices of PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal remote player globally. We know that price changes impact our community, and after careful evaluation, we found this was a necessary step to ensure we can continue delivering innovative, high-quality gaming experiences to players worldwide.

The updated recommended retail prices for PS5 consoles are effective starting April 2, 2026 as follows. For all other territories, please check with your local retailer or direct.playstation.com where it is available.

    You have got to be kidding. 6 years into this generation and prices are going up? I don’t care if Project Helix releases this year, I don’t want to hear about an “PS6” until 2030. If games are taking longer to develop AND prices are increasing, the console generation should last longer to adjust.

    So what games are you talking about? What “experiences” Er you referring to? Concord?

    Where the third Horizon game I’ve been waiting for a long time on? I’m thinking you are hard working on that, because you can’t possibly be stupid enough to go all in on that live service crap that nobody really wants. When every fan of the franchise wants the third game.

    Where is the next Uncharted? Infamous? Motorstorm? Ratchet? All the games I was expecting after the PS4 era?

    So since you now need to money for games I’m now expecting these to be announced before 2027 is over.

    Because as of right now, without those big franchises I love from the previous generations of Playstation, I’m not buying a PS6. Absolutely no reason when you don’t care about the legacy franchises. Absolutely no new games from this generation is worth my time. Everything good is from before the Ryan/Hulst era.

    Good luck selling now, stupid move after saying you were good for the year of 2026. Better stop porting to PC the competition, you better backtrack on multiple things PS. This price increase needs to be killed and porting exclusives needs to be killed. You could have been the pro consumer platform, but nope got charge you player base more.     These prices are insane. Specially when you consider the PS5 can NOT play PS1, PS2 or PS3 games, barely has any exclusives (and the ones it has are mostly slop), and for the first 2 years wasn’t actually widely available.

    And you STILL think people will buy the PS6 at the end of 2027 or early 2028?

    No. They won’t. Not unless you launch it for 400€ WITH the disc drive included.

    Sony is shooting itself in the foot. People will NOT be please AND they will NOT buy the consoles at these prices. No one’s buying the “Pro” already and you think 900€ PLUS 80€ for the disc drive is what will make it sell?
    You probably need new leadership at this point, Sony.

    This is a ludicrous increase almost six years into the console’s life cycle, especially given the lackluster exclusive output by Sony first party studios. I’ve had a base OG PS5 since March 2021 and was hoping to be able to upgrade to a PS5 Pro and use that to coast well into next generation where I anticipated prices were going to be insane, but the cross-gen period was going to likely be even longer than this generation’s. But at these prices, especially with no disk drive, that’s no longer a possibility. It’s going to be well over a grand (after taxes here in the US) for a Pro plus disk drive. And then you still have the audacity to want us to pay annually for online services and cloud saves? I feel like I’m sitting here watching the industry implode in slow motion.

    Well, the old Sony is dead. Corporate greed at its finest. You also raised your camera prices by several hundred dollars. FX30 is now over 2 grand which is nuts for a few years old camera, at times when Nikon launches a powerful ZR for the same price. Enjoy the drop in sales even GTA6 won’t save.

      Problem with that is PC gaming is even more ludicrous. Decent RAM *alone* is almost as much as the new PS5 Pro price. Between RAM, GPU, and SSD costs, you’d spend 3 times as much for something that performs only modestly better than the PS5 Pro. Prices in tech are getting out of hand across the board.

    So is the plan to price gouge your consumers until they can’t afford your hardware anymore, because that’s what’s happening. You used to be able to get a console 20-50% less at this point in the life span and you still expect people to buy a PS6 in a few years? People don’t have that kind of money.     I never comment EVER, but this is absolutely absurd. I already have a PS5 pro so it doesn’t affect me personally but you guys are insane for charging $900 for the console. At least include the disc drive for that much money. Also please do not bother to even release the PS6 if you plan on charging $1000+ for it.

    I’m a huge PS fan and I’ve been playing since PS1 but you guys have crossed the line and it’s really unfortunate to see.

    I’ve proudly owned every mainline PlayStation generation since I was a kid. I love all of the console exclusives. I just got my PS5 and I’m having a blast with it. However, between all of the studio closures, the abysmal live service push, and the price hikes, this is the worst console generation in PlayStation history. If Sony really thinks they’re selling millions of PS6 consoles, they’re delusional. The PlayStation brand is dead, all because of AI and Sony’s greed.

    This is not good. At a time when so many people are struggling just to pay for food and gas… Now the “cheaper console game” option to a PC gaming rig is being priced up and out of reach. $650 – $900 for a 5+ year old console platform is insane! How much will the PS6 cost?…$1200?! This combined with closings of top developers, such as Bluepoint and JAPAN Studio, very few PS5 exclusives, just send like brand sabotage to me. I hope I’m wrong since I’ve been one of your biggest supporters over the years. I bought the PlayStation at launch, on 9.9.1995, as I have with all of the other Sony systems. Reconsider this pricing. Learn from your PS3 launch price fumble… Before it’s too late.

    Well, congrats on finally killing the console market. I genuinely cannot fathom the ineptitude of Sony management over the last 6 years.

    Yeah, component parts are going up but prior to the PS4 consoles were always a loss leader. $900 for a Pro, just as the Pro is finally gaining some traction? Insane. Most people thought it was too expensive at $700. As a day one owner of both the PS5 and the PS5 Pro, I’m obviously a mark but even I would never pay these new prices.

    This is a reasonable price for the current macroeconomic landscape. Most PlayStation players do not understand how a business operate in a duration like this. Every business have operating expenditures! If Sony does not pay off their expenditures, they will not have enough captial to pay off their contractual partnerships, employees, and other expenses. I understand that not many people are not able to afford a PlayStation console. And that’s okay! This will not be a problem for Sony because at the end of the day, you will continue to buy a PlayStation console and their PlayStation Plus subscription service no matter the price. If you all want to play your favorite game titles, you have to pay to play. It is comical that you all complain so much about Sony raising prices, but end up buying their products anyways because of “FEAR OF MISSING OUT”. Trust me, Sony have other ways for you to play their games. AI is not going away and never will. Those AI data centers that they are building? That is going to be your new gaming console. You will only need a streaming box and a controller. You want to play 4k 120FPS game titles with VRR and PSSR enable to have the best high-quality gaming? There you go. You all can keep denying as much as you want, but eventually It is going to happen.

    Well, PlayStation is not what it used to be. This generation didn’t see the awesome games like uncharted, a new bloodbourne, twisted metal, Warhawk, kill zone, all the those legendary games. Where are they Sony? All we got was remakes and remastered games. On top of that we get gouging prices for consoles with no legendary games. Well, that PlayStation 6 is going to sit on the store shelves until it rots.
