Grit and Valor -1949 launches on PlayStation VR2, PS5 August 21

For those new to the game, Grit and Valor – 1949 is a real-time tactics roguelite set in an alt-history World War 2. Evil Axis forces dominate, and Europe is on its knees – only you stand as humanity’s final hope. Become the Commander of an elite Mech Squadron across thrilling battles – think fast, take a stand, and get ready to liberate Europe and free the world. 

When we started work on the game, we always thought it would be a brilliant fit for the VR platform.  We were delighted when our sister studio, nDreams, stepped in to collaborate with us on the project, bringing over 10 years of experience working on titles across the original PlayStation VR and PS VR2.  We’d love to take you through what makes this experience so unique. 

Become the Commander  

VR allows you to immerse yourself from the perspective of different roles and characters, and what better role than to play from the perspective of a General, commanding their army from the war room. We’ve seen this scene play out in countless movies – it’s tense, dramatic, and thrilling. Immersing yourself in VR, directing and overseeing from above the battlefield, makes the scale of your decisions – and your pursuit of victory – feel so much bigger. 

A whole new perspective to strategic warfare 

The game’s visuals and perspective were originally inspired by tabletop wargames, even down to the painterly art style where miniature mech units almost feel like they’ve been painted by hand. When matched with VR, this unique perspective gives the feeling of playing with a battlefield diorama, but with the magic of your units animating – lean in and watch them instantly come to life or pick up your units to examine them up close. 

Going further, combining this perspective with the immediacy of the PS VR2 Sense Controllers allows the precision that a mouse offers but with the addition of tactility that you would experience in real life. From headsets to head rumble, the game fully utilizes the power of PlayStation VR2 to deliver a visually stunning, immersive experience. 

Regroup, rebuild, redeploy across a full campaign 

Building upon the original PS5 game, we have allowed players access to the full VR campaign. Set out to liberate Europe across a host of missions, but remember, if your Command Vehicle is destroyed, the mission is over. Regroup at the Resistance Base, rebuild and upgrade your squad, and redeploy. Different units and updates allow for countless strategic approaches and opportunities for your next run. 

What’s more, purchasing the game will give you access to both the PS5 and PS VR2 versions, allowing you to play the campaign across PS VR2, PS5 and even the PS Portal. The game is perfect to pick up for a quick session on the sofa, in front of the telly, or for immersive sessions in VR.
