At Sony Interactive, we’re always experimenting with new and exciting ways to bring our community of players together to share the joys of gaming and create lasting memories. That’s why three years ago, we created PlayStation Stars, a loyalty program to celebrate our players. The unique program includes playing games to earn rewards – including our unique Digital Collectibles that pay homage to incredible games and our PlayStation legacy. The program has helped foster a deeper connection with fans around the world.
Since launching the program, we’ve learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends. Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to evaluate our key findings from this program, and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings.
Here are some key things to know as these changes take place:
- Starting today, PlayStation Stars will no longer accept new members for this version of the program.
- If members choose to cancel their PlayStation Stars membership starting today, it will not be possible to rejoin this version of the program, and members will lose all earned Points.
- Current PlayStation Stars members can still earn Digital Collectibles, Points and level up their status until July 23, 2025 at 7:59AM PDT | 3:59PM BST | 11:59PM JST. After this date, there will be no new PlayStation Stars Campaigns available, or any additional rewards or status benefits to earn.
- This version of the PlayStation Stars program will fully end on November 2, 2026 and current PlayStation Stars members can continue to redeem Points as long as their Points don’t expire before then.
We also wanted to let you know that PlayStation Stars members can still access their Digital Collectibles, even after these changes take place.
We want to thank all of our players for supporting PlayStation Stars since the launch in 2022. As we explore new ways to evolve our loyalty program efforts for the future, we’ll continue to celebrate all of our players through the various community activities we have planned.
The programs we create are all inspired by you, and we look forward to bringing you compelling new experiences for many generations to come.

Alright guys, this is your chance to make this an loyalty program/ps hub/store app that makes people jealous. We love PS. Give us an app to show it off!
The problem with the Stars Program is that it was very anti consumer. To earn points we had to purchase games, points expired within 1 year, rewards were useless/redundant, items we could use points to redeem for were irrelevant, and the rewards program didn’t incentivize users to engage with ps products or features. Even when it did we had to pay lots of money.
Overall the program gave players literally no reason to remain loyal to the initiative, or the brand. As a user of the program I felt like more was taken away from me as opposed to more being given to me through my engagement.
Should PS Ever revisit something like this again, they should really think about rewarding players for their engagement as the program title would suggest.
Really disappointed with this decision I do hope for better things to come out of this plan.

Sony ended their general rewards program last year, so don’t get your hopes up for anything “better” coming.
Very disappointed. I enjoyed earning psn store credits. Made buying some overpriced games a bit more bearable.

It’s sad to see it go.
It feels like we’re loosing more than what we’re gaining lately.
I think a few reasons why it didn’t catch on was:
1- It was only on the PS Mobile app
2-It was hard to find even on the app, most didn’t even notice the logo on top
3-It wasn’t on the PS5 or PS4 front menu, Nintendo has theirs on their main page on the Switch.
Yes, visibility and lack of awareness was a big part why nobody used it because nobody knew it existed.
I’ll wait and see what new loyalty program comes in, I hope it’s as rewarding as PS Star was if not better.

I really like Playstation Stars. I see it as a good way to promote new games or drive engagement with PS Plus, and spotlighting games in campaigns. They mostly do all of those, but i wish they did more. I like the Robbit or Astro Bot collectibles with personality. Or the ones for releases or anniversaries. I want Playstation to celebrate their identity again! Also, put Stars on PS5.
As a loyal PlayStation fan for over 25 years, I have to say this is one of the most disappointing and careless decisions I’ve seen you make. Today, you’ve lost a significant amount of my respect and trust. I pray you bring this service back and pay homage to the people who actually used this service and dedicated time, precious time that WE DO NOT GET BACK.
PlayStation Stars was a fun and unique service—maybe not perfect, but it added something fresh to the gaming experience. It gave players a reason to stay engaged, sparked conversations among friends, and brought more personality to our profiles. Many of us spent real money and time investing into a service you promoted and hyped, only to have it taken away without meaningful explanation. That’s not just frustrating—it feels like a slap in the face.
This feels just like the shutdown of PlayStation Home all over again. You build up a community, create excitement, and then rip it all away. The lack of transparency and care shown toward your most loyal fanbase is honestly infuriating.
You are actively losing the trust of your core supporters. This decision wasn’t just disappointing—it ruined my day. I’ve always been proud to support PlayStation, but today, I’m honestly embarrassed by how little regard you’ve shown for your players.
Do better.

Stars had issues but the idea was cool, hopefully this is a closure to transition to something better and not just throwing in the towel, but I won’t be holding my breath.
We get to keep our nice trophy display case tho? Please?

Please reverse this decision. PlayStation Stars is a good rewards program. There’s legitimately no reason to remove it. I love having to complete challenges and get cool models in the display cases. Why not expand it and add more display cases or better yet redo PlayStation Home again with these features? Makes no sense to kill the fun.
This is ridiculous. You’ve already gutted Sony Rewards and the PlayStation card. PS Stars should have been the replacement. You all never even made good on the promise to add the collectable case to PS5. What a waste. You used to make fun pro-consumer moves, the E3 Experience in theaters, The PlayStation Experience fan weekends, a great rewards program. Where’s the fun now? We don’t even know when to expect announcements. At this point, I’m expecting an all digital PS6, and I’ll be done with PlayStation. Keep it up and see what happens to your fan base.
Just make something better, and please make ps+ worth using. Be better.

Really disappointed to hear this…. I know it’s signed off as ‘this version of stars’ is closing. But still… Surely this should have been integrated into console u.i. to fully assess it? My PSN purchasing habits definitely increased with the free points I was getting.
This and the gamer review system they had at the ps5 launch were seriously under committed trials.

Really Gutted that PS stars is closing down. I was a big fan of the rewards scheme and it was also very beneficial to players like myself who spent alot of coin on games and also enjoy the chase to gain more points via the rewards system.
I’m not a regular subscriber to ps plus anymore so I’m not too bothered by this. But if it’s coming back in some new iteration I have a few recommendations.
Drop the requirement for ps plus to get ps stars benefits. Why can’t this be something everyone can benefit from?
Get rid of the expiration dates so you can bank earnings from ps stars and use them without worrying about when things expire.
If the campaigns will continue, find a way to give credit to people who play on physical disc. Like this month expedition 33 is featured but since I bought the physical copy I miss out on PS stars points.
Also add some real value to ps plus. I’ll be interested in subscribing if it included Crunchyroll premium instead of Sony pictures streaming.
Bring back dynamic themes! Welcome hub stuff is ok but pales in comparison to PS4 dynamic themes.
Also bring back folders on the home screen! PS4 did this very well.
Finally add a prompt that I have to agree to before an update starts downloading. Even with auto updates disabled they pop up all the time and just start downloading.
And let’s get the tenchu games available on the ps store: tenchu stealth assassins, tenchu 2, and wrath of heaven!
These are some of your best tools in recent decades.. need to find a way to improve the current features to mimic these old school tools.. or improve them 🖤
