Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

Features including GPU upgrade, advanced ray tracing, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution take players to new heights.

UPDATE: On September 26, 2024, pre-orders will be available directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers in territories where direct.playstation.com isn’t available. On October 10, 2024, pre-orders will be available at all other participating retailers.

Over the last four years since the launch of PS5, we’ve worked hard to continuously evolve the console experience and deliver the great games our players expect from us. Today, I’m incredibly proud to announce the next step in that evolution and welcome PlayStation 5 Pro to the PlayStation family – our most advanced and innovative console hardware to date.

Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

We developed PS5 Pro with deeply engaged players and game creators in mind – as many have asked for a console that runs even higher fidelity graphics with smoother frame rates at 60FPS. We achieved this on PS5 Pro with several key performance features.*

  • Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro, we are upgrading to a GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
  • AI-Driven Upscaling: We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.

PS5 Pro provides gamers with amazing graphics at high frame rates. You can hear Mark Cerny, lead architect for PS5 Pro, discuss the key innovations from PS5 Pro in the following video presentation. This presentation provides a deep dive into the key performance features that make PS5 Pro truly special.

Other enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can apply to more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games. PS5 Pro will also launch with the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in territories supporting this standard. VRR and 8K gaming are also supported.

It’s humbling to see how game creators have embraced the latest technology from PS5 Pro, and several games will be patched with free software updates for gamers to take advantage of PS5 Pro’s features. These games can be identified with a PS5 Pro Enhanced label within their title. Some games you can look forward to include blockbuster hits from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners, such as Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and more.

We kept the look of the PS5 Pro consistent with the overall PS5 family of products. You’ll notice the height is the same size as the original PS5, and the width is the same size as the current PS5 model to accommodate higher performance specs. Players can add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, or swap out console covers when they become available.

PS5 Pro fits perfectly within the PS5 family of products and is compatible with the PS5 accessories currently available, including PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, Access controller, Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore. The user interface and network services will also remain the same as PS5.

The PS5 Pro console will be available this holiday at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (includes tax). It will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed in every PS5 Pro purchase. PS5 Pro is available as a disc-less console, with the option to purchase the currently available Disc Drive for PS5 separately.

PS5 Pro will launch on November 7, 2024 and will be available at participating retailers and directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com. Preorders will begin on September 26, 2024.

Our PS5 journey would not be possible without the millions of players that have supported us through the years and have shared with us their love of gaming. Whichever console option players choose, whether it’s PS5 or PS5 Pro, we wish to bring everyone the very best gaming experience that fits their needs.

*Features only available on select PS5 games that have been enhanced for PS5 Pro when compared with the PS5. PS5 Pro enhanced features will vary by game.

  • Not crazy about the price and the added cost of the disc drive but I’m interested in this:

“Other enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can apply to more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games.”

I’d like to see a list of games that will get this treatment and what will be enhanced. Will this give performance options like 60 fps to Bloodborne, Arkham Knight, Red Dead 2?

  • $700, no stand, no disc drive, no exclusives.
    Grim.

  • What are you planning to do to prevent scalpers?

  • I would like Sony to know The “Email Invitations” they sent out to their customers so we can purchase was a great idea. Please do this again I would love for a chance to buy a PS5 pro.

  • I am really excited about this. Some say to get a PC, but I hate fumbling with PC settings. This will indeed allow me to game at 4k 60fps, and I am all for it; I sometimes always felt like I had to comprise on games when I wanted fidelity graphics, and I can play a game just fine at 30 fps, doesn’t get me wrong it is definitely still playable. But 60 fps is such a gold standard and looks so smooth I love it. I think the price is Good for me. Since launch, I have had my PS5, so I think it will be a worthy upgrade. In my opinion, it is still cheaper than a PC.

  • Sony, I don’t know what you’re smoking, but I’ll take some of whatever that is because you might be high to think this is going to go well. I have owned literally every single one of your consoles. I even still have a PSTV. I can assure you, this is going to flop harder than Concord. I have a massive physical games collection and I refuse to pay that kind of money for something that is digital only. You think you can milk the pay piggies forever, but your hubris over the last few years is becoming tiresome. You’ll get no upgrade from me.

    • You don’t have to upgrade; I get physical media, though. I, too, like physical media, but numbers don’t lie, and when more and more people are buying digital, it makes it hard. I am still happy they at least offer the disc option. I was at Walmart the other day when two guys were getting PS5 slims, and they wanted the digital version. They told the Walmart employees that they don’t buy discs anyway. So I do get it.

    • I agree with you and there was hardly any noticeable upgrade from what they showed.

    • I agree with out….. but….. I got a PS5 with a blu-ray drive and have never used it. I do find it bothersome to not have a physical media drive but I can’t really see it impacting me in practice.

  • I hope it has a 2.5Gb ethernet port.

  • So I could take the disc drive off my ps5 slim and add it to the pro? And to follow that up can I then put the panel from the pro onto my slim?

  • This monstrosity is absolutely disgusting. No specification sheet is provided, the cost of the system is exorbitant and it doesn’t come with a disc dive integrated into the system. Is Sony trying to convince me to leave their ecosystem?

  • I don’t know if this was mentioned or not, but can we use our existing expandable M.2 SSD from the PS5 to the PS5 Pro. I’m assuming “Yes”, and hopefully that’s the case?

  • Hi. Why is PS5 PRO so expensive in EU (€799.99 EUR vs 699.99 USD vs £699.99 GBP) ?

  • Nice waiting

  • You would have had my money today if you had announced a PS5 Pro, with disk drive, 2TB NVME, Spider-Man 2 edition with the game for the 700.00. Now I will either wait for the PS5 Slim to go on sale or just pickup a used one.

  • Ok… having to pay out $700 for a PS5 Pro and have no disc drive, in this bad economy, is almost a spit in the face to console gamers! This is such a bad way to do business, making people buy a part to make 90% of what they already have to work is ludicrous. Forcing the gamer to buy digital game that they already have a physical copy is stupid!

  • Everybody that thinks, oh at this price, just buy a PC hasn’t tried playing on PC and gone through the hassles that consoles gaming experience is far removed from. The reason I prefer console gaming isn’t cost, it has always been just a better experience where all the games will use the features of my preferred controller and the button prompts will be correct and there won’t be any cheaters in online games unless I am playing with cross-play enabled with PC players.

  • £700 with no disc drive is an absolute joke! I’ve bought every model of PlayStation since the PS1 on launch day and I was excited to get the PS5 Pro until I saw the price. It should come bundled with a disc drive and a dual sense edge for that price. £700 plus an extra £100 for a disc drive is frankly insulting.

  • Yes I’ve been sick of choosing between fidelity and performance going back and forth is conflicting, but in all honesty I love this new console. Throw in support for 21 by 9 screens that would be great

  • DualSense pads are identical? Could I use the charging base from PS5 with the new DualSense pads?

  • Having a PS5 and a PC continues to be the best choice I ever made. Ain’t no way I’d ever buy this.

  • Why on earth would anyone buy this ? PS5 has no exclusive games after 4 years and they have the nerve to announce a pro with ….NO GAMES

  • And sony whoever bought PS5 PRO make sure to give them a gratis ps plus premium 1 year!!
dont be selfish!! let the kids enjoy in gaming!!! the more you give deals the more peopl will buy your console
thats how its working!! good luck in selling but dont forget every buyer 1 year of PS PLUS PREMIUM

  • OSCAR PROUD: SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS?!

  • OSCAR PROUD: SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS?!! TRUDY!!!

  • cant wait to preorder this my money is ready

  • What did I JUST say to you on here last week, about if you make a PS6 and it doesn’t come with a disc drive??? And then you do this? And what is everyone saying in every single comment condemning this console? The price AND the missing what?

You…….. don’t……..listen……..to……us……..PS………. Fans………..anymore, who got you to where you are today.

  • No disc drive for the “Pro” version? lol.

  • 800 euros for just 45% performance increase? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND??!!!

  • This is PC territory pricing. Are they sure they can compete at that level with what they’re offering? As well as requiring a sub for online multiplayer?

  • After inflation in US and global parts price increase this was ALWAYS gonna be $599+ USD.

Putting +1tb ssd space in it versus PS5 slim that’s immediately +$100 onto the price.

If they didn’t do that I think we might have been able to make it $599 with 1tb.
Not sure if this is the biggest issue for most people as it fixes the price for a large amount of people.

  • Why is it so much more for u.k than the rest?

  • Not shocked by the price but not including a disc drive is an immediate deal breaker. I’ll have to pay an extra $80 to play the physical games I already own. Sony is really dropping the ball this generation. Really wish Xbox wasn’t such a joke.

  • Guess I’m keeping my PS5, why no disc drive, want my physical media. Probably another $100 for the drive when it comes out and how will it be attached.

  • 800EUR is a crazy price tag. No disk drive and NO STAND 🤣
OK I’m still buying one cause I can afford it but here we go again, the full cycle, back to PS3 arrogant Sony era.

  • Is ps5 pro support 144 hz

  • Improving the GPU portion of the APU from 36 Compute Units to 60 Compute Units is a sufficient upgrade. I didn’t need it to double as it did when it went from 18 Compute Units on the PS4 to 36 Compute Units (which would have meant doubling the PS5’s 36 CUs to yield 72 CUs), as it just isn’t necessary when you have PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. The XBOX ONE X seemed to squander its 6 TeraFLOPS by targeting a native 3840x2160p60 resolution, rather than a lower intermediate render target and then upscale the result. Had they done so then Forza Motorsport 7 wouldn’t have had far worse looking trees than Forza Motorsport 5. What is nice is to see that Gran Turismo 7 has an update to support Ray Traced reflections on the cars. I liked that his was restrained and understated. They are overblown in Forza Motorsport and the effort Turn 10 put into supporting that meant that there were serious oversights in other important areas of the game, such as it having missing textures for the track. It is unforgivable to ship a racing game without a track. How did that escape testing? Did Turn 10 do any testing?

I still would like to see DriveClub get Ray Traced reflections, as there is still nothing quite like it on PlayStation. It is my only complaint with the platform that the servers were turned off. Perfectly reasonable to do that if you have a replacement in the same genre, but Gran Turismo 7 is a track racer not a point-to-point racer through countryside, so I miss it terribly. Were you to make a DriveClub 2 with Ray Traced reflections on PS5 Pro then I would get the console. As it is I admire what you have done, but I have no real need of it. The price isn’t off-putting. I think it is entirely fair. I expected it to be about this much given what Hiroki Totoki said at the earnings call. I want Sony to make decent profits mid-generation on their hardware. Now is not the time to sell bleeding edge quality technology at a substantial loss. All those in these comments griping about the price won’t get it and that will hopefully make it easier for those who do (and I know many keen gamers who do very much want the PS5 Pro), to acquire one because there will be less competition for them than there was with the PS5. What they would appreciate would be a more reliable purchasing system than was used last time around. Hopefully, this will be less fraught for their sake.

I also really think it is smart to include a 2 TB right from the get-go, especially because it is a Digital model. Install sizes for games are growing all the time so this makes sense. I was only able to acquire a PS5 Digital Edition at launch in 2020 and it has never been an issue, and I have never felt the need to have a slot for Blu-rays, so making the launch SKU of this include an expensive Blu-ray drive that I wouldn’t even use would have pushed the price to £780 which is kind of silly and unjustifiable. £700 is fine and I guess if I got more involved with my PSVR 2 and learned it would benefit fidelity and framerate for that, then I would be quite interested in getting one at a later date. However, I am 100% happy with my PS5 at the moment, so the best of luck to everyone who wants one, and thanks to the clever team at Sony for making pragmatic choices to get the best out of people’s existing games, and for those griping about the price, or PC is better, they don’t need to worry about its existence. It isn’t for them. It is for real gamers many of whom have the Nintendo Switch and a PC.

  • £700…NO disk drive…NO way SONY…🤬🤬🤯

  • why is it more expensive in Europe?

  • This price is utterly ridiculous, you haven’t fixed stick-drift issues on PS5 dual sense controllers, you’re now asking for $700 USD for a “slightly” better performing console, and without a disc drive. Many of us love collecting physical copies of games, and we put them on our shelves. Too much money for this console. Also my old PS4 Controllers had no issue with stick drift, now you have them on PS5? Just like Nintendo with there Joy-cons, fix your controllers and give what the community wants, then we’ll gladly buy new controllers, and the PS5 Pro.

  • really wanted the upgrade but no disc drive is a hard pass for me

  • By Jove! I must say, I find it quite shocking indeed that there is not a disc drive!

And that price causes me significant pause! Significant!

  • I’ll be honest. I usually go for the mid-gen upgrades because it gives me time to see what games I’d be interested in, and save up money. Unfortunately, somebody has said that the PlayStation 5 Pro’s price in my country is nearly $1k. And that’s without a disc drive, which I would have to pay extra to get (which will probably be over $100). Not to mention that many of the toted “upgrades” would be absolutely useless on my twelve year old TV that still functions great, so I have no reason to upgrade my TV, an additional expense on top of the expense that is the Pro and disc drive.

At this point, I think I will just skip this generation and get parts to upgrade my PC so that it can play the games when they inevitably hit PC. What has stayed on PlayStation just isn’t in my wheelhouse of interest.

  • why is it more expensive in Europe??

  • Not having a disc drive at that pricepoint is pretty criminal.

  • No one better buy this waste of space. The current PS5 is more than good enough for today’s era of gaming, hell most game developers are still making games with the PS4 in mind so developers aren’t even using the full potential of the current PS5 hardware.

And on top of all that this hunk of junk is 700usd doesn’t come with a disk drive and doesn’t even come with a bleedin stand.

The only positive thing I can say about it is the 2tb SSD.

    Sony is out of touch.

  • The PS4 Pro was needed when it came out in 2016 because the previous-gen consoles were underpowered.

The PS5 Pro isn’t even needed considering developers haven’t even fully utilized the specs of current-gen consoles.

Should have focused on the PS6 instead.

  • Is the ps5 pro going to have a competitive advantage over the original ? All I play it’s fps games mainly call of duty

  • That’s expensive :-) Everyone expected the PRO to “replace” regular PS5 and discounts for PS5. I guess it’s holiday strategy to try to earn more and if the sales are not good we will see price slash around E3

  • For that price and no Disc Drive, its a hard pass. I would have to buy my whole library on digital.

  • Rather frustrating that my ‘old’ PS5 still experiences game crashes on some of the games. The original PS5 had a shoddy rollout IMHO – will Sony stand behind their PS5-Pro or let consumers be beta testers for flaws which may, or may not, eventually see a fix for ? If they don’t fix problems with the old PS5 what assures us that they won’t do the same with the PS5-Pro ?
