Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

Features including GPU upgrade, advanced ray tracing, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution take players to new heights.

UPDATE: On September 26, 2024, pre-orders will be available directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers in territories where direct.playstation.com isn’t available. On October 10, 2024, pre-orders will be available at all other participating retailers.

Over the last four years since the launch of PS5, we’ve worked hard to continuously evolve the console experience and deliver the great games our players expect from us. Today, I’m incredibly proud to announce the next step in that evolution and welcome PlayStation 5 Pro to the PlayStation family – our most advanced and innovative console hardware to date.

Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

We developed PS5 Pro with deeply engaged players and game creators in mind – as many have asked for a console that runs even higher fidelity graphics with smoother frame rates at 60FPS. We achieved this on PS5 Pro with several key performance features.*

  • Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro, we are upgrading to a GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
  • AI-Driven Upscaling: We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.

PS5 Pro provides gamers with amazing graphics at high frame rates. You can hear Mark Cerny, lead architect for PS5 Pro, discuss the key innovations from PS5 Pro in the following video presentation. This presentation provides a deep dive into the key performance features that make PS5 Pro truly special.

Other enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can apply to more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games. PS5 Pro will also launch with the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in territories supporting this standard. VRR and 8K gaming are also supported.

It’s humbling to see how game creators have embraced the latest technology from PS5 Pro, and several games will be patched with free software updates for gamers to take advantage of PS5 Pro’s features. These games can be identified with a PS5 Pro Enhanced label within their title. Some games you can look forward to include blockbuster hits from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners, such as Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and more.

We kept the look of the PS5 Pro consistent with the overall PS5 family of products. You’ll notice the height is the same size as the original PS5, and the width is the same size as the current PS5 model to accommodate higher performance specs. Players can add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, or swap out console covers when they become available.

PS5 Pro fits perfectly within the PS5 family of products and is compatible with the PS5 accessories currently available, including PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, Access controller, Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore. The user interface and network services will also remain the same as PS5.

The PS5 Pro console will be available this holiday at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (includes tax). It will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed in every PS5 Pro purchase. PS5 Pro is available as a disc-less console, with the option to purchase the currently available Disc Drive for PS5 separately.

PS5 Pro will launch on November 7, 2024 and will be available at participating retailers and directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com. Preorders will begin on September 26, 2024.

Our PS5 journey would not be possible without the millions of players that have supported us through the years and have shared with us their love of gaming. Whichever console option players choose, whether it’s PS5 or PS5 Pro, we wish to bring everyone the very best gaming experience that fits their needs.

*Features only available on select PS5 games that have been enhanced for PS5 Pro when compared with the PS5. PS5 Pro enhanced features will vary by game.

  • please decrease the price thanks

  • Jack Tretton needs to return, ASAP.

  • Could be good for new comers but at that price, without a bluray drive or vertical stand, the offering to existing ps5 owners (supporters!) is astros playroom which we’ve already played and finished if we were going to, and to play our existing games we’ve mostly played and put down (like ratchet) again for such a large amount of money it’s almost impossible to justify.

I’d love gt7 improvements in vr and the ongoing games I’m playing and ones not yet released will undoubtedly be better but that’s not £500 of value (assuming can sell existing ps5). PS4 pro got it about right, the extra cash needed was not in the painful territory but this is too much for too little I’m afraid.

  • 700 USD and not disc drive. Oh boy, this is going to flop as hard as Concord

  • Playstation, lower the price to 599!! It’s a fair price!!!

  • People should get to register their PS5 Pro serial number, and get the disc drive for $10, like how you can get the camera adapter for PS5 Pro.

  • Sony, you do not know your clients. The hardware seemed like a decent jump but there are no games to play, no incentive to buy the new console and that price point? 800E is insanely expensive compared to the PS5.
I was considering the PS5 pro mainly for PSVR2 enhancements, which there was no mention of.
Everything about this is so underwhelming and has been underwhelming for a great deal of time that I think abandoning the platform is the right thing to do at this point. Absurd asking for what is being offered.

  • If it means I can play FF7 Rebirth at 4k60 I’ll buy it, but having to buy a disc drive separately is scummy. When y’all stop having a disc drive, that’s when I stop playing games.

  • I thought that was a terrible!!! way to announce such an expensive & contentious piece of hardware?, it was like here’s a janky bit of TLOU2 footage & ohh GT7 has car reflections
And that £700 quid please!… Ohh and no disc drive or stand.

  • Where’s the backwards compatibility and new announcement? That’s what I was hoping for. O well maybe someday.

  • $700 and, because I bought my games physically, I’m taxed an additional $80? No thanks Sony, you’ve lost me as a lifelong PS customer (started with the PS1).

  • Surely the £699.99 is a mistake? that’s nearly $920 USD, £/$ and accounting for Sales tax would have been £549 and that’s still price gouging the UK.

  • Literally just buy a Sony TV with “Reality Creation” (super-samling). It applies to more than just games (movies, streaming services, input devices, etc.). It’ll last longer and you’ll get more use out of it than a mid-gen refresh. You’ll get 3-4 years until PS6. Though I guess that’ll support the previous gen for a while just like how most PS5 games are still made for PS4.

  • 950 CDN…plus another 13 percent sales tax !! Oh man…

  • Literally just buy a Sony TV with “Reality Creation” (super-sampling). It applies to more than just games (movies, streaming services, input devices, etc.). • Not for 800€ (900$ converted) without a disc drive and a stand.
What is wrong with you Sony ?!
    650-700€ I would have paid.
But no way I’ll give you 800€ for a digital PS5 Pro version.

  • “VRR and 8K gaming are also supported.”

This was said about PS5 pre release. VRR didn’t launch for ~16 months and 8K support for future-proofing simpler/retro games like Rez Infinite never happened. Basic functionality like copying individual PS5 game saves to USB still doesn’t exist.

  • The extra power is good, I hope it can do 4K at 120hz in full 4:4:4 chroma. I strongly dislike that it does not have a built in optical drive, I think that is a huge misstep. It should also at least come with the verticle stand as well at that price.

  • No disc drive? I’m not buying it, then. Why would I want a console if I can’t buy physical games? Also, you are trying to sell hardware without software? Team Asobi should be CEO of PlayStation.

  • Yikes! That price is too much. If it was 599, I’d jump on it, but I’ll wait for the PS6.

  • Insane price bump for a bit of improvement. 60fps should be PS5 standard, not for the Pro.

  • Nothing to look for on this one , owning a regular ps5, there is no way ill waste that money on the PRO

  • Pay more for Less. This is not competitive compared to the PC landscape, something the original PS5 did well at launch. Disappointing Sony.

  • I wanted one so bad but $700 and no disc drive made it a big ask.
I bought a PSVR 2 (day one) and i love it.
Which shows I’m willing to spend but i think that was too much

  • 700 for a console with nothing coming out. Even the higher ups say they have nothing. Mark can’t design a console that doesn’t over heat and then calls basic thing super. Super ray tracing is just ray tracing. This is greed 100% 700….

  • I actually like the design it looks cool, I do feel sorry for the Japanese market they have the worst price.

  • I already got 60FPS with my PS4 @ 1080p – I don’t see why 4K 60(which I can achieve through upscaling with devices I already own)is important… What about support for 21:9 Ultrawide Monitors? What about support for 240FPS with 1440p & 360FPS with 1080p monitors? (WITH ray tracing – as whatever a GPU can do at 4K, it can do BETTER at lower resolutions) Why design a console for those who MAKE the games – as opposed to those you BUY & PLAY the games? #WHOisRobbingThisTrain

  • The lag of first party exklusives and the price point of 799€ without a disc drive + sony’s PC policy + no commitment to psvr2 make it so easy to switch to PC in the future…unfortunately

  • That UK price is insulting, do you think we’re all sat on vast cash reserved to spend on our hobbies? There’s a cost of living crisis!

I’ve always been a Playstation fan right from my childhood with PS1, even through the rocky PS3 launch days, but this is pure arrogance on your part. Trying to see what you can get away with since Xbox is floundering.

    Disappointing.

  • Guys, I don’t get those cries, except no presented disc version of PS5 Pro. Do you really expect to get better (by technical aspect) console for the same price as was launch PS5? Those comments about pushing to PC – nobody holds you, go on. Launch PS5 still works just fine and there is no need urgently upgrade to Pro version (which was more convenient for me with PS4 and PS4 Pro). Just try to get rid of your old console and buy the new one, that’s it…

  • I may have talked myself into $700 with a disc drive, but realistically $650 with a disc drive would have been my buy price, with a good trade in value of the base PS5. I’m good with my launch PS5 for the next 3-4 years until the PS6 comes out.

  • No mention of enhancements for PSVR2? Come on Sony that’s one of the MAIN REASONS for this console to exist, to give PSVR2 the power it actually needs to get GT7 etc out of reprojection.

I knew it wouldn’t be PSVR2 heavy in this 9 minute vid but at least ONE mention of it ‘enhancing VR’ would have been… encouraging? :/

Also £700 WITHOUT a disc drive? WTF. Tech is meant to get cheaper as the years pass, the upgrades in this should cost around the same as the OG did on release 4 years back, now no drive and £300 more! I get times are hard all over but it’s not exactly like you have a ton of must-play exclusives right now either.

FTR I’ve owned the PS1 (bought it at launch back in the 90s), PS3, PS3 Slim, PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5, PSVR1, PSVR2… but PS5 PRO is looking pretty hard to justify at this price without the drive and NO massive VR enhancements mentioned.

I’ll wait and see if/how it enhances PSVR2 games like REvil, GT7, NMS etc as that’s pretty much all I play now anyway. Does it have 2TB SSD? That helps a bit I guess, it definitely needed it. Just wish it had the drive, it’s obvious you’re pushing everyone towards digital which is even more costly as you can rarely buy digital cheap for years vs sales on amazon or used games.. nor sell them on.

Even £700 WITH a disc drive would have been pushing it but acceptable, but untili GTA6 drops you just don’t have the games to even warrant it, as said my only interest until GTA 6 was for playing GT7 in VR with graphical enhancements at 90fps instead of 60fps… but no mention of if that’s even gonna be a thing? Time you stopped holding everything so close to your chest as a company and be more open about the future of PS with VR, AAA games and more. Also factor in the ridiculous PAY TO PLAY ONLINE which I’ll never do (I have a fast PC too) and you’re really taking the fun and the whole point out of console gaming (oh and the £70 games lol). Literally the only thing you’ve done right this gen, for me, is the DS controllers and PSVR2 – I commend you for still going with VR as it IS awesome and the best HMD I’ve owned out of 8 in 10 years, but NEEDS MORE AAA/FIRST PARTY GAMES!

Lastly, I hope the pro isn’t SOLEY focussing on ‘same old gfx but at 60fps’ I for one prefer fidelity mode over performance (obv not in VR) so paying tons of cash just to play games at the speed the OG should have been able to play isn’t great, but if they actually LOOK BETTER on their 30fps modes (Higher res more FX more RT) then cool. Even on PRO I’d still select fidelity mode unless it was frame rate vital (and I don’t play online on PS5 so… no)

You better have some amazing AAA games up your sleeves now to take advantage of the PRO or it’s just a rockstar enhancement device that rockstar should be paying the extra costs for! ;)

  • “Sony makes you upgrade” (and why would you). It is the same every time. I have two dualsense controllers that have stick drift. HOW? How does Nintendo get sued and Sony doesn’t when both have legitimate controller deliverable issues? Now they give us a $700 console without a stand or disc drive and we are told why we should upgrade but they intentionally make you upgrade a controller to replace the broken original to begin with? Don’t even get me started with PS+ pricing. No one should be praising this until they fix how they treat their customers in the first place. Judging from the comments I am not at all alone.

  • $700 and no disc drive? Good luck.

  • The PS4 Pro released with the same price as the PS4s launch price. It included a disc drive.
I understand that hardware doesnt depreciate in price as fast anymore, but the fact that this is $300 more than the digital edition / $200 more than the disc edition – Sony, Your greed is showing.

  • When can I buy the ps5 pro

  • So wait, I have to keep my PS5 in addition to this just so I can play my Blu-ray’s and disc games? I mean, unless I buy the disc accessory for what another 100dollars making this 860 som USD. Ridiculous Sony.

  • Definitely will pre-order PS5 Pro (Digital Edition Console) on September 26, 2024!

  • I hope there’ll be at least Trade-in option because it’s very expensive especially here in Germany!!!

It could’ve helped too if there was 1TB option for 100 Euro less for example.

  • You don’t even know the specs yet. Nobody does. If it’s on par with a 40 Series GPU then this is an absolute steal.

  • Just wow… I have lived through every generation of PlayStation, and still remember the infamous “$599” price tag announced at the PS3 press conference. $799?!?!? I was seriously hoping it would launch at $499 without a disc drive, with a $100 price drop on the PS5 base and PS5 digital editions. My highest prediction would have been that same $599 PS3 price. At $799 though, that is just absolutely wild and completely priced out of the market. Usually these Pro systems only cater towards that top 10% of the enthusiast gamers, but this one will be lucky if it cracks the top 0.5%…

  • I’ve been with PlayStation since ‘95. Love Sony, but man. $700 for the new console without a disk drive? Gosh. I’m not sure if I’m gonna be able to afford this.

  • What about PSVR???

  • Dear Sony, we can forgive you even the price of the console and accessories, but once again, you are forcing us Poles to buy your product ‘through’ the Germans or the French. Is 40 million residents really not enough to introduce direct sales to Poland?

  • What no competition does. 700 for ps4pro type console. Where is that 200$ discount.

  • As much as I love Playstation, £700 is a bit too rich for me.

  • I am very disappointed by the price, 800 euro vs 700 dollars is very unfair; even if the price was 700 euro, still too much without disc and stand. I think this is one of the biggest mistakes that Sony can make now – they have a capable mid gen hardware refresh that nobody will buy because is too expensive and most of us bought the disc version of PS5 and will have to buy also the disc if we want to upgrade. Mistake after mistake (PSVR 2, remote play console, Concord etc.) although they were leading the console market – I will not buy PS5 Pro although I was excited for it. Sadness.

  • Who is this for? Because it isn’t Playstation enthusiasts. If it was, it would clearly come with a disc drive AT THAT PRICE at least.

Who would buy this right away? Because there IS NO WAY it is staying at that price when nobody buys it.

I can see the apology PR statement already.

  • What about PSVR?
