Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

Features including GPU upgrade, advanced ray tracing, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution take players to new heights.

UPDATE: On September 26, 2024, pre-orders will be available directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers in territories where direct.playstation.com isn’t available. On October 10, 2024, pre-orders will be available at all other participating retailers.

Over the last four years since the launch of PS5, we’ve worked hard to continuously evolve the console experience and deliver the great games our players expect from us. Today, I’m incredibly proud to announce the next step in that evolution and welcome PlayStation 5 Pro to the PlayStation family – our most advanced and innovative console hardware to date.

Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

We developed PS5 Pro with deeply engaged players and game creators in mind – as many have asked for a console that runs even higher fidelity graphics with smoother frame rates at 60FPS. We achieved this on PS5 Pro with several key performance features.*

  • Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro, we are upgrading to a GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
  • AI-Driven Upscaling: We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.

PS5 Pro provides gamers with amazing graphics at high frame rates. You can hear Mark Cerny, lead architect for PS5 Pro, discuss the key innovations from PS5 Pro in the following video presentation. This presentation provides a deep dive into the key performance features that make PS5 Pro truly special.

Other enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can apply to more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games. PS5 Pro will also launch with the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in territories supporting this standard. VRR and 8K gaming are also supported.

It’s humbling to see how game creators have embraced the latest technology from PS5 Pro, and several games will be patched with free software updates for gamers to take advantage of PS5 Pro’s features. These games can be identified with a PS5 Pro Enhanced label within their title. Some games you can look forward to include blockbuster hits from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners, such as Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and more.

We kept the look of the PS5 Pro consistent with the overall PS5 family of products. You’ll notice the height is the same size as the original PS5, and the width is the same size as the current PS5 model to accommodate higher performance specs. Players can add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, or swap out console covers when they become available.

PS5 Pro fits perfectly within the PS5 family of products and is compatible with the PS5 accessories currently available, including PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, Access controller, Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore. The user interface and network services will also remain the same as PS5.

The PS5 Pro console will be available this holiday at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (includes tax). It will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed in every PS5 Pro purchase. PS5 Pro is available as a disc-less console, with the option to purchase the currently available Disc Drive for PS5 separately.

PS5 Pro will launch on November 7, 2024 and will be available at participating retailers and directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com. Preorders will begin on September 26, 2024.

Our PS5 journey would not be possible without the millions of players that have supported us through the years and have shared with us their love of gaming. Whichever console option players choose, whether it’s PS5 or PS5 Pro, we wish to bring everyone the very best gaming experience that fits their needs.

*Features only available on select PS5 games that have been enhanced for PS5 Pro when compared with the PS5. PS5 Pro enhanced features will vary by game.

  • Sony….have you seen the backlash from gamers about the overprice PS5 Pro?Why not atleast offer the Blu-ray drive to people that pre order the PS5 Pro?Releasing the new system…a Pro system for 800€ without a Disc drive its greedy and actually a big screw you to all gamers that have buy a PS5 at release and now intend on upgrading to the Pro.Sony I hope theres some reflection on the fans backlash before pre orders begin, its not yet to late to change.

  • 700$ looked pretty high already and THEN you had to remove the disc drive????!!!??. A slightly modified ps5 slim for 700++?!??, and that’s the cheapest it gets, 700£ in uk? 75k+ in India is absurd.

  • $700? No way! I will pass on that. My original PS5 console from early 2021 is still rocking great. I just see no reason to shed out that much money for a console upgrade that is not so pro at all.

  • My question is, will 120 hz work with the advanced ray tracing ect, or will we get the same results as the previous model when using 120hz?

    • I’m afraid those few games offering a 120hz mode will have no other choice than to reduce graphics. This is since the CPU on the PS5 Pro is exactly the same as the base model. Framerates are CPU-bound.

The PS5 Pro can run the PS5 performance mode with a level of detail comparable to the quality mode.
      It’s a mid-gen refresh, not a PS6.

The ONLY games running at 60fps on PRO are the ones that offer 60fps mode on the base model but with higher resolution and better graphics.

      I hope that makes sense.

  • You are 100% confirmed that the Blu-Ray unit of the PlayStation five Slim will be compatible with the pro?

  • I think Sony did their homework very well on this, they are targeting a certain audience who they know can afford the bump in price and more importantly willing to buy it at that price point. I believe the PS5 Pro will be very successful in terms of sales and with its emphasis on 60 FPS I am anticipating it will run GTA 6 at 60 FPS otherwise that would undermine what it stands for. We will see.

  • Yes, when the mistakes made by Sony make everyone pay, or skip this generation and enjoy the alternative world. At the moment it looks like Sony products have been hit 100% by hyperinflation. It’s a pity, but let’s keep our heads down, say goodbye to Sony PlayStation and all will be well.

  • Well have both consoles PS5 and Series X… At the moment it’s too big hype about the Pro version and maybe lack of support for many games. Keep in mind that the console hardware software are much more limited than gaming PCs and no better hardware without updated game version on the console will give you more FPS, better ray tracing or just better overall performance. Much more I’m hyped about the new Xbox hybrid console which will be share the same ecosystem as the PC including Steam.

  • What time on the 26th will these release on direct?

  • Will pre orders begin on september 26 or in October at gamestop?

  • What time do pre orders open on the 26th??

  • The new machine is not small or weak. But the game publishers are weak and lazy, they simply optimize games under critical conditions. Sony studios are an exception. I really like the new pro machine. And thank you to Sony

  • What time will preorders go live on September 26th?

  • Please release the price for APAC region. I hope my country won’t have any delay in shipment.

  • As someone who skipped this gen of consoles completely and decided on playing PC, Isn’t it a tad too late to be upgrading this late in its life cycle? with Sony and Microsoft stating a new console launch every 6 years from now on, because 8 was way too long between, why would people pay $800 for a PS5 now, when in two years the PS6 will be out.
I was waiting on Sony / MS to do the midlife crisis upgrade this gen because, as I got the ps4 2.5 years into its life cycle and then everyone announced the +.5 models and I felt shafted, I had just spent $400 on a ps4 and now for the same price pretty much, the pro was coming out and it was too late for me at that point, so just don’t want to be in the same situation this time.
So waiting to see if they redo the price pre launch, i mean I could understand $700 with disc drive and $600 without, but they nuts for asking $800 for it, bright side, won’t have to worry much seeing as how most of the A games are on PC now and no real need to downgrade just to play them anymore.

  • Can’t wait with definitely preorder

  • marketing console ..dont buy ..better wait for ps6..price is very hgh for console ..graphic is upscaling 😂😂 so is nothing …

  • hi, I was wondering will the PS5 Pro upscale DVDs and blue rays

  • What time will preorders go live?

  • I expect that not everyone will have this great opportunity to place an order, because the resellers will do it faster. Others will have to buy at a mark-up of around 35%. It will be another defecit product. Great, isn’t it?

  • make it MANDATORY for developers to have an unlocked FPS option on their games, this way, forward compatibility is way easier and future consoles can run games at 60, 120+ FPS without need for patches and developer work.

  • To play my old games better?
$700 is too much. Could barely see any difference on the presentation.
No new game announced for it.
    I have my launch PS5
    Hard Pass

  • What time will PS5 Pro pre-orders go live on PlayStation Direct on September 26th? Midnight PST / EST? Will there be anti-scalping measures in place?

  • Will pre order for sure. I have no reservations about it this will be the best place to play. And a steal at 700. Worth a lot more. Stop telling us all about PC’s people. We console gamers and don’t care about PC’s of any shape or form. Dual sense 6 has been the most reliable joypad I ever used, never had stick drift, don’t understand how people have had 6 controllers, how bad do they treat them. This upfrade will max out the games how I want them and selling my ps5 slim will fund half of this. I’m happy, the person who buys my slim happy, what more can we do.all good

  • Really need an option to buy this with the Disc. It is crazy to think most of us do not have SP4 games and PS5 games on Disc. And now we have the Scalper situation going on so you can find no add on Disc for purchase. A failure all around for us avid gamers.

  • Why time are pre orders going live on the 26th?

  • Give me give me

  • TEAM Sony & PlayStation

Hear me out about my PlayStation Portable 2 “Day dream” *Don’t Use VITA in the name*

I believe the ecosystem that The PlayStation Portable 2 is going to be entering is going to be extremely competitive and hostile with Mobile Phones / STEAM DECK (Other variants) / NINTENDO / and to a lesser extent Gaming Laptops. If the PlayStation Portable 2 is to survive in this landscape, PlayStation and STEAM are going to need to come to an agreement where they can run STEAM games on the PlayStation Portable 2 hardware (Obviously through some approval system on both Sony and STEAMs sides). NOT ALL Steam games will work but if they can get a good portion of them working… This may convince the PC community to join up with the PlayStation tribe creating wider appeal.

OVERALL DESIGN SIMILAR TO THE PlayStation PORTAL (Seems close to perfect to me)
** (Understandably Battery Life / Performance / PRICE is difficult to balance so some specs may need alterations / sacrificing) **

EIGHT INCH TOUCH SCREEN DISPLAY QD-OLED: 1440p Resolution (Can switch to 1080p to conserve battery) 30 – 120 hz screen w/ VRR and the audio system provided by Sonys Audio team with their 360 sound.

Graphical power comparable to a PS4 Pro, a bit of PS5 and a sprinkle of the PSSR magic you have developed. (AMD I believe in you!)

    WIFI 7 & Bluetooth 6.0 (5G network)

1 TB SSD *should be standard* (Possible to increase storage / swap out for bigger SSD *Potentially up to 8TB*) (Micro SD card slot)

1080p Front Facing / Rear Cam w/ Microphone and audio jack input for wired headphones / headsets.

ONE USB C port for quick charging / data transfer / on TOP of the device.

ANOTHER USB C port on the bottom that is utilized to be DOCKED and PAIRED with a PLAYSTATION 6, PlayStation VR2 and PC (Design a dock that can be connected for PS6 and/or PC)

Docking the PSP2 into your PLAYSTATION 6 utilizing all that horsepower can be used to increase the fidelity and performance for your portable games while continuing your game on the couch once you get home. (EX: Playing Horizon Portable or Gran Turismo Portable or TEKKEN portable BATTLEFIELD portable or even perhaps your STEAM library) they play to what the hardware is capable of and when docked to PS6 increases resolution and graphical fidelity along with frame rate on your BIG SCREEN)

**IF POSSIBLE – INTRODUCE STATE OF THE ART – SOLID STATE BATTERY**

LAUNCH PlayStation Portable 2 around Holiday 2027 Novemberish (Subtle Hints in advertisements and packaging material of inevitable PS6 console in 2028)
RELEASE PS6 Holiday 2028 (Advertisements should be focused on the ecosystem that all work together: The PS6 console, the PlayStation Portable 2 and the PS VR2 Headset – GAMES GAMES GAMES NEW IPs)

PRICE in 2027… : $999.99 ($899.99 if possible) – I would gladly pay $999.99 to take my PlayStation Games *PS Portable 2 games *PS1 – PS6 games, (streaming/CLOUD GAMING) and *PSVR2 games and STEAM games with me everywhere in one device) *Along with Streaming services Netflix, MAX, Amazon Prime and some Social Media Apps*

    PlayStation Portable Return to Glory!

  • This should have came with a disc drive or the disc drive should not need online to connect it!!!!

  • to all the haters, don’t buy it please. everyone else enjoy.

  • I wonder if and how F1 24 / F1 25 gameplay will improve?

  • Dear Sony,

Please send me an invite for the PS5 Pro. As a loyal family member of the playstation for 30 yrs, and hopefully over 30 plus more years to come I am excited to play on the most powerful home console to date, the PS5 Pro. I don’t want to miss out on securing one at launch due to selling out.

Thank you Mr. Mark Cerny and team for continuing to architect great hardware. Thank you Mr. Hiroki Totoki, Mr. Hideaki Nishino, and Mr. Hermen all of you at SIE, and for he past, present, and future of great video gaming.

  • Love it ppl buy a new $2000 phone every year or so.
$800 is nothing for what you get for years I love ps5 pro idea
    Everything is going up
Remember it’s going to enhance thousands of games you already love and play if you don’t have a bad ass tv you don’t need it .
But the rest of us need it
    P. s. a pc in the living room is wack 😒

  • Can we use the PS5 slim faceplates on the PS5 Pro?

  • My moneys already waiting.I hope i manage to secure a pre-order this Thursday 🤞

  • Hello, dear Sony company, my name is Vlad, and I’m from Ukraine, I’m a big fan of PlayStation, I have all the consoles starting with ps1, a collection of discs for ps1/2/3/4/5, I have a ps5, and of course I have already pre-ordered for ps5 in our stores, but we won’t have colors for the 30th anniversary of PlayStation, you can’t even imagine how I dream of ps5 pro in the color ps1, as for someone who played in the first generation, these are very positive emotions, in Ukraine the official representatives of Sony are Comfy, Moyo, Foxtrot, tell me, is it possible to pre-order a collector’s color in Ukraine ? You have no idea how much I want it in this color and how important it is for me, best regards, Vlad.

  • Why is the PS5 pro much more expensive in Europe???

No disc drive? I have to buy it on top?

    Im disappointed.

  • Question. In order to use PSSR in games, they got to be patched or PSSR can be applied easily by the user in PS4 and PS5?

  • I wish they’d send out invitations to long time customers after the hassle we went through for the ps5. As an owner of ps1,ps2,ps3,ps3,ps4,ps4pro,ps5, 2 psvita’s, and a Sony Ericsson Playstation phone, I would be near the front of the line I’d imagine. Thanks in advance!

  • I am so sick of the just buy a PC crowd, look its espensive, we all agree on that. But not everyone want to game on PC. I work in IT and could easily build a gaming PC. Although personally I think 700 is a hard sell. I think closer to 1000-1200 would be comparable if it does what they say it can. But I sit in front of a computer all day and buy 95% physical media. When I come home I want to sit on my comfy couch in front of my 77 inch oled and game. Different storkes for different folks. If you like PC gaming thats geart….for u…but remember people have difference preferences and we should all respect that.

  • How late will the pre-orders be online ?

  • I’m interested in the grayscale version myself. I will be keeping my Disc Edition console, though, for my game collection and for the fact that ATM it’s the only 4K/UHD player we have.
I stopped by here looking for a time when the pre orders go live.

  • Has there been a preorder time and time zone announced? Are they offering email notifications? Kind of hard to get a chance of pre ordering and actually get to buy one before they sell out, if we don’t know the time…

  • 12300 consoles worldwide for a limited edition bundle? That’s completely unfair, especially to loyal fans like myself who have been shelling out serious money for your products for over 30 years. We didn’t want to scalp these consoles for profit—we wanted to actually use them. This should have been done properly, through a lottery system where fans could register and winners could buy without the ridiculous stress of fighting bots and resellers. Sony, you’re an electronics giant; how could you botch this so badly? It’s an insult to your loyal customers. Get it together!

  • Why couldn’t I buy the pro in Ireland I was in the queue for a hour and it wouldn’t let put my address in as Ireland only the uk

  • Unbelievable. The price is way to high. Not to mention screwing over people with disc games. Sony has pulled far ahead of Microsoft, which means they can set the price they want and players, who can afford it, will pay, because Sony is the best place to play.
Of course, maybe this is them not selling the console at a loss, but it’s been proven manufacturers recoup those losses over time. It’s no reason to push the cost off on loyal fans and gamers, when gamers are going to buy SO MANY other Sony products on top of the console.

  • i already own an original ps5 and a slim ps5. i think that the ps5 pro is way too expensive for what it is. there are no exclusives or wont be many even if there are in the future and this model dont even come with disc drive. you can still play games on the regular ps5 anyway just like it happened with the ps4 pro. the improvements of the pro model are not that great. i saw videos about it and we can barely see small improvements when games are compared between both versions. i been thinking about it alot and i came to the conclusion that its not worth upgrading my ps5 to play the same games with a small improvement. i think that only those who dont already own a ps5 or those who have alot of spare money can buy this without any regrets. if you dont own a ps5 and considering buying one and dont want to pay the big price , its a better deal to buy the slim or original versions for much cheaper and they will probably even drop a bit in price.

  • Will the PS5 Pro include the link technology built in like the PS Portal? or will you still require a dongle? note the USB ports now at the back so not sure if this causes any issues!

  • The lack of disc drive will keep me from supporting this and makes me loose a lot of faith on the future of playstation. If they continue to push digital I will find a new way to game.

  • Why would I spend money on a $700 doorstop? You can’t even spend five minutes to post letting us know when I’m gonna be allowed to play the off-line games I paid for.
