Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

Features including GPU upgrade, advanced ray tracing, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution take players to new heights.

UPDATE: On September 26, 2024, pre-orders will be available directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers in territories where direct.playstation.com isn’t available. On October 10, 2024, pre-orders will be available at all other participating retailers.

Over the last four years since the launch of PS5, we’ve worked hard to continuously evolve the console experience and deliver the great games our players expect from us. Today, I’m incredibly proud to announce the next step in that evolution and welcome PlayStation 5 Pro to the PlayStation family – our most advanced and innovative console hardware to date.

Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

We developed PS5 Pro with deeply engaged players and game creators in mind – as many have asked for a console that runs even higher fidelity graphics with smoother frame rates at 60FPS. We achieved this on PS5 Pro with several key performance features.*

  • Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro, we are upgrading to a GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
  • AI-Driven Upscaling: We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.

PS5 Pro provides gamers with amazing graphics at high frame rates. You can hear Mark Cerny, lead architect for PS5 Pro, discuss the key innovations from PS5 Pro in the following video presentation. This presentation provides a deep dive into the key performance features that make PS5 Pro truly special.

Other enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can apply to more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games. PS5 Pro will also launch with the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in territories supporting this standard. VRR and 8K gaming are also supported.

It’s humbling to see how game creators have embraced the latest technology from PS5 Pro, and several games will be patched with free software updates for gamers to take advantage of PS5 Pro’s features. These games can be identified with a PS5 Pro Enhanced label within their title. Some games you can look forward to include blockbuster hits from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners, such as Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and more.

We kept the look of the PS5 Pro consistent with the overall PS5 family of products. You’ll notice the height is the same size as the original PS5, and the width is the same size as the current PS5 model to accommodate higher performance specs. Players can add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, or swap out console covers when they become available.

PS5 Pro fits perfectly within the PS5 family of products and is compatible with the PS5 accessories currently available, including PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, Access controller, Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore. The user interface and network services will also remain the same as PS5.

The PS5 Pro console will be available this holiday at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (includes tax). It will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed in every PS5 Pro purchase. PS5 Pro is available as a disc-less console, with the option to purchase the currently available Disc Drive for PS5 separately.

PS5 Pro will launch on November 7, 2024 and will be available at participating retailers and directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com. Preorders will begin on September 26, 2024.

Our PS5 journey would not be possible without the millions of players that have supported us through the years and have shared with us their love of gaming. Whichever console option players choose, whether it’s PS5 or PS5 Pro, we wish to bring everyone the very best gaming experience that fits their needs.

*Features only available on select PS5 games that have been enhanced for PS5 Pro when compared with the PS5. PS5 Pro enhanced features will vary by game.

  • I’ll buy if, and only if, there is a GTA6 special edition.

  • I’ve tried the whole “PC Master Race” before, and personally I didn’t like it . But I’m willing to go ahead and get ready for a PS5 Pro. Especially with the esports competition and being able to livestream my gameplay on YouTube, which my current console doesn’t support (and to be nice shall remain nameless) . I also prefer buying games with physical discs, so I’m going to start looking for the external drive and decided which of the Pulse headphones to add as well.

  • I get The new CPU and GPU and all but after 4 years?!?! it would be more reasonable just to make the ps6!

  • Crazy that they ask 800 euro for the console…… Very disappointed in the console section.

  • Super disappointed. I am the target demographic for this console, was very excited at the announcement. But $699 with NO disc drive? Absolutely not. With a drive, I would have grumbled at the price but bought it. But if I want the drive I have to pay like $800 after tax? No. And it’s even worse for my fellow gamers overseas.

  • Wow, what an unreasonable price point; even hooptie PC’s (e-machines/office machines) include disc drives at $700. In my opinion, not many gamers are going to shell out another $200 for an optical drive for a console; that money would be better spent upgrading a PC graphics card, monitor or SSD drive.

I play and own PC and console game; when one becomes too expensive to upkeep frequently I can turn to the other. It is a critical mistake for Sony to try to compete with the PC market for gaming; they are truly two different beasts in my opinion. Physical PC games can last between a few to several PC generations; physical console games generally do not. Digital games on the PC are easier to access (no subscription needed in most cases) and put the top games on sale more often than the console versions of the same digital games. What keeps me playing console games is having another choice of how to entertain myself through gaming (I also like board and card games, too).

I will not pay $700 for a console that has the same game access as its cheaper version; I can wait for a true console upgrade (PS6) for graphics and gameplay improvements.

  • Why is it $700!?! And without a disc drive too?!? Keep in mind that the PS6 is probably coming out in 2027 (three years from now) so I’m definitely waiting for that. I do find it funny that people are saying to buy a PC though. Don’t most gaming level PCs cost $1,500+?

  • When you say it will include a 2TB SSD, is that the onboard storage being upgraded to 2TB or is it still 825GB with a 2TB NVME drive pre-installed?

  • PlayStation direct only means no way of getting it in Puerto Rico… with the PS VR 2 you couldn’t get it until you started selling it in retail stores… all because we are an US territory so ps direct doesn’t ship here and it won’t be on retail because we are part of US…

  • The price tag is simply a deal breaker, I was planning to sell my ps5 and wait for the Pro to come out, but nope! I’ll just stick to my good old ps5 till the end of this gen, and possibly even longer since we haven’t even got any exclusive games yet for this so-called 9th gen..

  • Great… I’ll be able to see text from slightly further away and get slightly higher frames without disk support for 200 dollars more

(Please make ps+ more like Xbox gamepass🙏🙏🙏)

  • Can you confirm that the factory stand (NOT the one in the pic) comes with the system? I think ppl forgot about it

  • I hope that we don’t end up in a scalper like situation again, the disc drives for PS5 slim are already sold out in participating stores, so I assume that might be the same case with PS5 pro as well. Want to get the upgrade but am wary that I won’t be able to because of the scalping situation.

  • I’m ready!

  • The price is not bugging me like a lot of people. I expect the price to be high everything in the gaming industry is expensive so the price doesn’t shock me. Now for the hardware itself, the 2tb right out of the gate is nice, something that I hope they continue is the PS6 (Whenever that is) Everything else is just a nice upgrade especially for those like me that doesn’t know squat about building a gaming pc. Next the presentation itself, I didn’t expect any announcements it was just a 9 min vid to show what Playstation players has to look forward too if interested. But Sony really needs to get a State of Play out there soon and give me a reason to pick it up especially knowing you have cheaper options

  • My ps5 cost 500€ at release (incl drive and stand)
Ps5 Pro costs 950€ (with drive and stand)
    🤣🤣🤣
    No thx

  • Day 1 purchase for me but don’t get excited thinking I’ll buy a full digital PS6. I have also bought the disc drive.

  • Really disappointing announcement. Given the price, it seems very stingy not to include the stand and disc drive. Of course, no one is forcing anyone to buy it, but really feels like taking the fanbase for granted. Shame to see Sony going in the direction of Apple.

  • $700 and no stand or disc drive. Improvements so slight that you have to pause and zoom in to notice them. This is a hard pass to say the least.

  • What time on the 26th do preorders go live?

  • I’m afraid your €120 Disc Drives are out of stock

  • Honestly after knowing the price of the PS5 Pro I was like wow, what is special about this?
Simple PSSR, total game changer in every sense of the word, this might just be worth the money. Let us see how it’s used, and how much quality it adds to existing games.

  • Dear PlayStation,
A couple ways to mitigate the sticker shock:
Release another version with 1 TB hard drive and a disk drive for the same price.
Release another version with 1 TB hard drive and no controller for $150 less

  • Whoever says oH bUy A pC is stupid pcs are way more money and consoles are way more accessible than pc idc I will prob get it

  • PC quality gaming on console!

  • AS AN OLD 74 YR OLD GAMER FOR THE LAST 46 YRS SINCE THE EARLY DAYS OF PONG THE GAME THAT STARTED VIDEO GAME HISTORY.I OWNED EVERY GAMING SYSTEM THAT CAME OUT. A FAN OF PLAYSTATION FOR THESE 30 YRS SINCE PS ONE. NOW PLAYING ON THE SLIM MODEL. WHICH PLAYSTATION SAID THIS WAS THE NEW SIZE DO TO COST.PRICES. THAN BOOM HERE COMES THE PS 5 PRO SAME SIZE AS PS5 YES BIGGER PARTS MEANS BIGGER DOLLARS AND NO EXTRAS INCLUDED LIKE A DISK DRIVE STAND ETC. WE CAN MAKE MONEY SELL SELL THEY BUY THESE EXTRAS.BUT $ 699.00 IS A JOKE.PLUS DISK DRIVE EXTRA COST. PLUS PAYING $ 20.00 EXTRA TO PLAY ON LINE . YEAH THE PRICES HAVE GONE UP ON EVERYTHING IN THIS WORLD. BUT THIS IS GREED ON YOUR SIDE.I LOVE GAMING AND HAVE A GREAT COLLECTION OF GAMES. BUT BEING ON A FIXED INCOME AND COUNTING BUYING A PS5 PRO PRE ORDER I WILL HAVE TO WAIT TILL THE PRICES DROP SORRY SONY. THANKS FOR LISTENING.

  • STILL no Dolby Vision support for 4K UHD Blu-rays = No Buy

  • Day one squad stand up! 💙

  • Sorry Sony PlayStation but I’ll be replaying my PS4 Pro game library until the system dies. In Canada, this Pro price will be well over $950 without a stand or a disc drive. Plus Canada’s out of control taxes, it will be over $1000.

  • Will wait til 2 version comes out. My PS5 is work just fine at moment. Let someone else beta test version 1

  • ….$699 ? NO PROBLEM.GIMME THE FRAME RATES !!!
    ‘NUFF SAID

  • Sony this i can not support.
The price is insane and its only 45% faster than 4 year old HW.
Where is the games on the regular PS5 to take full advantage of the system after 4 years ?

    I`m underwhelmed.
    This thing will flop.

  • I can’t wait! FF7R, Spiderman, an GOWR played actually in REAL 4k 60fps!? Take my money now!

  • I will buy Xbox

  • Please
Lower the pice at least 100$
For sure the PlayStation 5 Pro is awesome but, the price is to high
And lower the PlayStation 5 old version to make more flexibility to other players.

  • I Can Play Horizon, Gow, Uncharted, Spiderman, All On My PC For This “Attainable” 4k 60 Mentioned Here By Mark Cerny Whenever I Want To Already, And Spiderman 2 And GT7 Will Be Coming To Pc ,And What About The Base PS5 And Its So Called 4k 60 To 8k Resolution Capabilities ..Lol Nowhere, Nowhere On The Box Does It Say 4k 30 Mr. Cerny, Know That.

  • Will the Gray Camouflage console panel be available upon launch?

  • Isn’t $699.99 supposed to be approx. €630.00 and £530.00? We can’t afford to lose you too, Sony.

  • Been gaming with PS since ’97 and those heady, exciting days of Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, WipeOut, Oddworld, Metal Gear, etc. And have got every console including PSP, Vita and PSPGo.

The transition from PS4 to PS4 Pro was incredible (I even got the Last of Us 2 edition).

I was primed to sell my PS5 to help fund the Pro, but, at 700-quid- without a disk drive to play my blu-rays, I have not heard anywhere near enough about the benefits of upgrading aside from more defined crowds in Ratchet & Clank.

Firstly how much will the extra horsepower benefit PSVR2 games, and if it needs a developer-side patch to impro e tbe game, how many will be bothered to do so?

Also, where are the good VR games we saw experienced on PSVR1, such as Wipeout, Here They Lie and a driving game as good as the GT7-beating DriveClub?

Sorry Sony, thinking about it, and till I know more, I’ll stick to my day-one PS5 wait for the PS6.

For my mobile gaming, I’m currently playing Hogwart’s Legacy and Horizon Zero Dawn… on my glorious Steam Deck. What the heck happened, Sony?

  • Any chance the Slim plates will all fit the Pro?

  • Just wondering if my SSD m.2 memory stick with heatsink will be able to be installed inside of the playstation 5 pro as I’m going to pre order it when available nothing online says about the SSD increase

  • I wouldn’t pay $700 for a PS6 in the future, let alone a marginally upgraded PS5 with no disk drive. I’ll stick to my PS4 Pro and start saving and eventually transition to a PC. Sony has completely dropped the ball with this move 😑.

  • Can you guys get your podcast on Amazon Music/Podcasts. That’s what I use. Sorry I don’t have Spotify or Apple right now.

  • Hard pass…the price is not what bothers me but the fact that it does not come with a disc drive. Yes, you can get the disc-drive add-on but this is about the statement that Sony is making by releasing a digital-only version. Yes, I see the writing on the wall in regards to digital vs. physical but that doesn’t mean I have to like it and not oppose it.

  • How are you going to call something “Pro”, price it at $700, and not include the minimal, which is a disc drive? Because you upped the storage to 2TB, in which some of that space will be used by the OS, and a slight spec bump? I REALLY hope this thing fails like Concord did.

  • I am extremely critical about the high prices of the Pro versions of the consoles, especially the PS5 Pro because I really want one super bad. Not only no disc drive was off, but also, no stand. The price tag of $700 is too much, and many people CANNOT afford it. Sony really needs to bring the PS5 Pro price down to something more affordable for customers buying the product. I enjoyed the presentation. However, the $700 (including tax) price tag is way over the top and unjustifiable. Overall: As far as the price, I am very disappointed because I feel (in my point of view) that they are repeating the same mistakes with the PS5 Pro like they did with the PS3 since launch. The PS5 Pro should NOT be this high, and I am going to have to wait this out until the PS5 Pro prices go down and on sale.

  • It’s nice and all but I hope Sony will distribute enough quantities along with all must have accessories like the disc drive. The scalpers are already doing their things with the ps5 slim disc drive right now, you cannot find them anywhere here in Canada, in official stores. The price tag is already that high but if you add the scalping practices into the equation, it’s unbearable

  • I’m personally excited for the PS5 Pro, can’t wait!

  • Why can’t we preorder?
