Astro Bot arrives on PS5 September 6

Join Astro on his own supersized space adventure.

Hi everyone! On behalf of Team Asobi, I have the immense pleasure to unveil our new game Astro Bot coming to PlayStation 5.

A video speaks a thousand words so please check out our first trailer to see the game in action.

Astro Bot arrives on PS5 September 6

Since making an appearance at the launch of PlayStation 5, Astro has introduced many players to the magic of PlayStation. We received a ton of heart-warming comments about how much fun the game was, how it utilized the DualSense wireless controller in fun ways and how it paid tribute to 25 years of PlayStation history. From the bottom of our robotic hearts, thank you very much for all your support!

We listened to your comments and now, Astro is back in a super-sized space adventure, his biggest to date.

This image shows Astro riding his Dual Speeder above the clouds. A flock of pink flamingos fly around him. Poking through the clouds in the distance are mountainous outcrops with green grass and pink trees at their top.

In this brand-new game, you will explore 6 galaxies and over 80 levels in search of Astro’s scattered crew. Hold on tight to your Dual Speeder and dive down to each unique planet, from lush forests, sandy beaches, hot volcanoes to more surprising locations such as a gigantic hourglass or the canopy of a singing tree!

In this image, Astro stands on a lush grassy field. Towering behind him is a thick trunked tree, adorned with a mouth-like cavity and two glowing blue eyes which observe the tiny bot in front of it.

To get help on his mission, Astro can use over 15 new abilities offering unique play styles. As you would expect from an Astro game, these take full advantage of the DualSense controller, its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers so you can feel every little step along the journey. Among the many new powers, you will find Barkster, the Bulldog Booster that lets you air-dash and smash through enemies, metal and glass, the Twin-Frog Gloves that offer long-range punching and the ability to swing and the Giant Sponge that lets you suck up water from the environment to grow huge and cause massive (and slightly moist) destruction. Combined with improved Astro controls, these new powers take the Astro platforming experience to new heights, while remaining accessible for all. We can’t wait for you to get your hands on these and let us know how they feel.

In this image, flexing a pair of green Twin-Frog Gloves, Astro attacks a towering creature that engulfs that majority of the screen.

We also cranked up the number of baddies too with over 70 new types, including massive bosses at the end of each galaxy. Special mention to the deadly cobra queen Lady Venomara who appears in the trailer, waiting for you in her golden lair. Defeating each boss will uncover a wonderful secret but we don’t want to spoil that, so our lips are sealed😊. And for the brave ones of you craving even more challenge, the game comes packed with die-and-retry levels to test your reflexes.

In this image, with a metal rooster clad to his back, Astro Bot observes a mammoth metallic cobra, the tail of which slithers across the platform in front, kicking up dust. Behind that green and gold-bangled body rises the snake’s head.

But that’s not all, during this epic adventure, Astro will reunite with many friends from the PlayStation universe. The trailer shows only a few but we double down on the cast and hope to delight every PlayStation fan out there. And who knows, maybe this time, these characters will play an even bigger part in saving the day?  (wink)

This image is a close up of a winking Astro Bot, who proudly displays a robotic hound who’s positioned on his back like a backpack.

That’s all for now. Thank you for reading. At Team Asobi, we believe in the second-to-second fun and joy of video games. And with this new Astro Bot game, we invested all our love and craft to bring a constant smile to your face, as you run, jump, bop enemies and find the many secrets and jokes we dotted around.  We will be waiting for you on September 6!

This image shows a Kratos-like Bot facing the camera, tightly gripping his Leviathan Axe, which hovers above a tree stump.

We’ll be back soon with more details about the game as well as pre-orders opening up June 7. Until then, power up your DualSense, Team Asobi and Astro are taking you on a PlayStation space adventure to remember!

IF YOU WANT VR SUPPORT PLAY RESCUE MISSION NUFF SAID END OF

    • We can’t, because they haven’t ported it to PSVR 2, despite practically the entire PSVR 2 community asking for it 🤦🏻‍♂️

Thankfully I still have my PSVR 1 so I’m still able to play Rescue Mission, but your comment conveniently ignores the fact that the first two Astro Bot games were VR titles.

Strangely enough you don’t see anyone here saying “if you want to play Astro Bot you should have to buy a PSVR 2”, most people would be happy if the game was hybrid so everyone can play it.

  • This would be an instant buy with psvr2 support. Now it looks like a never buy

  • Looking forward to it. Would be cool if Astro’s Playroom was included on the physical version as well. I know it’s a free download, but it would be nice to have it on disc.

  • No PSVR2? What a shame… R.I.P. PSVR2

  • killersandvich54

why do poeple keep moaning about vr support
what we needed was more Astros playroom and that is exactly what we got

    • Because Astro Bot Rescue Mission is what boosted the little guy to the stratosphere. Even with Playroom, the reception from the VR game is what brought about this PS5 game. However, VR fans knew it wouldn’t be a VR exclusive so we wanted it to at least be a Hybrid.

    • Because it was Astro Bot Rescue mission that boosted the little guy to the stratosphere. Even with Playroom, it’s the reception of the VR game that helped make this PS5 game a reality. VR fans knew it wouldn’t be an exclusive so we were hoping it would at least be a Hybrid like Sony said they’d do for PS VR2.

  • Loved the previous game. Glad to see Astro Bot making a return!

  • Extremamente decepcionado com a ausencia do suporte ao PSVR2

  • Is there a PSVR2 mode?

  • PSVR2 please……

  • It seems it is time to sell my psvr2, great hardware but without games it is just laying around… Astro bot would be perfect game for it and it should be supported. Disappointed.

  • I was really disappointed and sad when I found out It doesn’t get VR2 😒😒😒

    PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN

  • errormiketechno

    Psvr2…🙃🙃

  • Very disappointed no PSVR 2 support. Please consider adding in the future.

  • As awesome as this game looks, it would be disappointing if you do not offer a PSVR 2 mode for this game.

  • captginger-beard

Please add support for PSVR2 as it should be…. even announce a plan to have it on there….

  • The game looks great… But why no love for PSVR 2?
It’s especially insulting when you consider that Astro’s roots and fan base literally grew from the PSVR 1 games “The Playroom”, and then Astro Bot Rescue Mission.

Astro Bot has (rightly so) made it as a mascot for Playstation, and Astro’s Playroom was a great inclusion with the PS5. I get that Sony and Team Asobi want to make a game to appeal to the widest possible audience, but c’mon, this could have at least been a hybrid flat / VR game!

I don’t know who’s in charge of making the decision not to have PSVR 2 support, but they’re seriously out of touch with their consumers. PSVR 2 owners have been crying out for a port of Astro Bot Rescue Mission, and a new Astro Bot game since the headset launched, and *this* is what we get offered instead? Seriously bad move, and not a good look for Sony’s support (or should I say complete lack of) for the PSVR 2.

Please reconsider and at least add a VR mode to this title.

  • Please add support for PSVR2!

  • pelvispresley22

You’d have my full $70 on day 1 if this had PSVR2 support.

  • PSVR2 Support

  • No psvr2, no buy…

  • Such a shame there’s no PSVR2 support :-(

  • Where is PSVR2 support?

  • Was looking forward to this on PSVR2, now, I don’t think i’ll buy it flat.
    Very dissapointing.

  • I hope PSVR2 gets an Astrobot game or at least make a VR mode for this game.

  • Why isn’t this a PSVR2 game?
And why hasn’t there been a port of Astro Bot Rescue Mission for the PSVR2? I know it would take some work to convert it for VR controllers, but on that note, why can’t the PSVR2 headset track a DS controller like the Quest can track hands? The DS controller is the best way to play a lot of VR games including the original Astro Bot, Moss, and Tetris Effect.
Why did Sony even make the PSVR2? For use on PCs? I have yet to play a PSVR2 game all the way through. I’ve had the headset well over a year and have used it about a dozen hours. There’s just nothing worth playing. And now not even the new Astro Bot.

  • No PSVR 2 support, no purchase. As simple as that.

  • what is the price for Astro bot 2024?

  • PSVR 2 support is a must for this game!!! Ever since Rescue Mission we’ve been craving for it!

  • Dualsense came out 4 years ago! There’s nothing new there. It was a nice way to show off a demo but to build a full game around it in 2024. No. Not without PSVR 2 SUPPORT!!! Dualsense haptics is a standard at this point nothing special. VR would make it everything special the first one was and more I’m sure.
PSVR 2 SUPPORT!!! ITS A MUST FOR THIS!!!

  • Looks awesome! Really wish it had PSVR2 support though.

  • Quoting from the Astro BOT FAQs:

Is ASTRO BOT available for PS4 or PS VR2?
ASTRO BOT is exclusively available for PS5.

  • I was so hyped when I saw the trailer in the State of Play. Definitely my most wanted game this year along with Dragon Age: Dreadwolf

  • No PSVR2 support? I feel burned. Headset was expensive and gets quest 3 games. Thanx Sony. 🙄

  • Looks great and will deffo get it. But what is going on with PSVR2 support? How is it ever going to succeed when your own new first party titles don’t even support it! Doesn’t seem to make sense, especially to those of us who laid out more than the cost of the console to get it in the first place! It’s a shame because it’s a great piece of kit.

By the looks if it, it wont be Playstation customers but in fact, PC owners who will get the best out of it in the end 🙁

  • This is the most engagement this Blog has literally seen and it happened because an expected home run hit with VR fans turned out to be a fly ball far to the left of the foul pole.

  • Please.we need on psvr2

  • I’m going to play this game, but it hurts to have a new AstroBOT game that has no PSVR2 support or at least when there’s not also a VR2 AstroBOT game. Even a port of the original VR1 game would help.

  • I love Astro, can’t wait!
VR support would have been great, but I’ll take anything we can get :)
Rescue Mission is one of my favorite games. We need platformers, I love Sackboy too!

  • Will play this game day 1 on flat screen, but hoping for PSVR2 support post launch.

  • Hey PC boy. This isn’t coming to PC anytime soon.

  • Guys whyyyyyyyy? It’s like a torture…seeing a game so beautiful that it could be definitely rescue mission vol2 in vr, you are making this game without vr…tell me please that this is a bad joke !! One of the reasons I spend 600 euros to vr2 was the expectation that the most popular and beloved game called astrobot rescue mission in psvr at some point it ll have its successful continuous to vr2 . I don’t believe that you didn’t think so many vr players. I m so angry and frustrated guys what are u doing? I m a playstation user from the start I bought all your consoles and vrs and always defend u to chats but now I feel so betrayed and mislead…please do something this is very very wrong

  • Astrobot was the no 1 game in vr with almost everyone vote it with 10/10. It should be your TOP priority to deliver an astribot in vr2. Who are the “geniuses ” behind this calls? Even a 10 year old kid would see it coming…where is your mind guys? To money? You ll lose your funs and your prestige as a company just to make a few million dollars more? How this is going to cost you in the long run when people see that you are a not trustful and listening to feedback company? You built something so good and you are trying to destroy it ..there are titles in vr2 list that shouldn’t be there ..not so good games and some from vr1 medium games and you didn’t even deliver us the best game in br2 the astrobot rescue mission. This is your diamond guys. Why you are leaving all us vr players with nothing? Please make an announcement and give us something back. It’s like u don’t want the vr2 to shine…so pity

  • Fantastic trailer, day 1 purchase. Loved the previous Astro games. Yes Astro Bot on PS VR is one of the best platformers of all-time but I get why this isn’t for PS VR2. Sony wants Astro to become bigger and something they can continue in the future. If it was stuck on PS VR2 with that tiny install base it wouldn’t sell that well. Truth hurts but it is what it is.

  • Astrobot Rescue Mission was great on PSVR1. Please bring Astrobot to PSVR2.

  • Please respond to us or something. You guys responded to the PC players for Helldivers 2 so quick!? Yet us? You guys don’t care at all…

  • Absolutely cannot wait for this. We loved all the Astro Bot games especially Playroom. Therefore so excited to see what is coming next….September 6th cannot come soon enough!

  • Just here to pile on. PSVR2 support for this title is essential, if it’s not coming my trust in Sony to support their hardware and respect their customers is shattered. Bad form, Sony.

  • LetsGoSportsRyan

Ecstatic to see Astro get a full game that all can enjoy but PSVR2 support would be really appreciated.
