Astro Bot arrives on PS5 September 6

Join Astro on his own supersized space adventure.

Hi everyone! On behalf of Team Asobi, I have the immense pleasure to unveil our new game Astro Bot coming to PlayStation 5.

A video speaks a thousand words so please check out our first trailer to see the game in action.

Astro Bot arrives on PS5 September 6

Since making an appearance at the launch of PlayStation 5, Astro has introduced many players to the magic of PlayStation. We received a ton of heart-warming comments about how much fun the game was, how it utilized the DualSense wireless controller in fun ways and how it paid tribute to 25 years of PlayStation history. From the bottom of our robotic hearts, thank you very much for all your support!

We listened to your comments and now, Astro is back in a super-sized space adventure, his biggest to date.

This image shows Astro riding his Dual Speeder above the clouds. A flock of pink flamingos fly around him. Poking through the clouds in the distance are mountainous outcrops with green grass and pink trees at their top.

In this brand-new game, you will explore 6 galaxies and over 80 levels in search of Astro’s scattered crew. Hold on tight to your Dual Speeder and dive down to each unique planet, from lush forests, sandy beaches, hot volcanoes to more surprising locations such as a gigantic hourglass or the canopy of a singing tree!

In this image, Astro stands on a lush grassy field. Towering behind him is a thick trunked tree, adorned with a mouth-like cavity and two glowing blue eyes which observe the tiny bot in front of it.

To get help on his mission, Astro can use over 15 new abilities offering unique play styles. As you would expect from an Astro game, these take full advantage of the DualSense controller, its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers so you can feel every little step along the journey. Among the many new powers, you will find Barkster, the Bulldog Booster that lets you air-dash and smash through enemies, metal and glass, the Twin-Frog Gloves that offer long-range punching and the ability to swing and the Giant Sponge that lets you suck up water from the environment to grow huge and cause massive (and slightly moist) destruction. Combined with improved Astro controls, these new powers take the Astro platforming experience to new heights, while remaining accessible for all. We can’t wait for you to get your hands on these and let us know how they feel.

In this image, flexing a pair of green Twin-Frog Gloves, Astro attacks a towering creature that engulfs that majority of the screen.

We also cranked up the number of baddies too with over 70 new types, including massive bosses at the end of each galaxy. Special mention to the deadly cobra queen Lady Venomara who appears in the trailer, waiting for you in her golden lair. Defeating each boss will uncover a wonderful secret but we don’t want to spoil that, so our lips are sealed😊. And for the brave ones of you craving even more challenge, the game comes packed with die-and-retry levels to test your reflexes.

In this image, with a metal rooster clad to his back, Astro Bot observes a mammoth metallic cobra, the tail of which slithers across the platform in front, kicking up dust. Behind that green and gold-bangled body rises the snake’s head.

But that’s not all, during this epic adventure, Astro will reunite with many friends from the PlayStation universe. The trailer shows only a few but we double down on the cast and hope to delight every PlayStation fan out there. And who knows, maybe this time, these characters will play an even bigger part in saving the day?  (wink)

This image is a close up of a winking Astro Bot, who proudly displays a robotic hound who’s positioned on his back like a backpack.

That’s all for now. Thank you for reading. At Team Asobi, we believe in the second-to-second fun and joy of video games. And with this new Astro Bot game, we invested all our love and craft to bring a constant smile to your face, as you run, jump, bop enemies and find the many secrets and jokes we dotted around.  We will be waiting for you on September 6!

This image shows a Kratos-like Bot facing the camera, tightly gripping his Leviathan Axe, which hovers above a tree stump.

We’ll be back soon with more details about the game as well as pre-orders opening up June 7. Until then, power up your DualSense, Team Asobi and Astro are taking you on a PlayStation space adventure to remember!

  • “Defeating each boss will uncover a wonderful secret but we don’t want to spoil that, so our lips are sealed😊”

JUST LET THIS SECRET BE THAT ONE UNLOCKS PSVR2 SUPPORT.

    • I would hate if they did that instead of allowing it to start. I wouldn’t want to play through a second time just to get a VR mode.

Based on the way they described it, it doesn’t sound likely this is what they’re referring to.

  • The game was created for PSVR. It is loved by every v r player. You make a sequel and leave out the VR. Thanks for at least letting me know you’re not supporting the platform anymore. Time to sell my PS VR 2. Never though these words would come out of my mouth. Go meta! Sony has lost all touch with its consumers.

    • Thank you Sony for taking a complete dump on all the PSVR 1&2 owners that supported this game and loved Astro from the VERY BEGINNING!

    • If “We listened to your comments” how on Earth didn’t you hear how loved and impressed everyone was with Rescue Mission?! Frankly it feels insulting. We bought your hardware, and you won’t give us a sequel to the best first party VR game you’ve put out, even in the form of a hybrid?

  • Please add psvr 2 support! He was on psvr 1 first, and if this game is playable flat and in VR everyone wins. Besides this just being flat without any announcement of VR version or a new VR astrobot game doesn’t have good optics for the platform.

  • Loved the way this game looks. Can’t wait to play it.

  • NO PSVR2 SUPPORT!???! WOW!! ONLY WAY I WOULD PLAY IT!!! EXTREMELY SICK OF SONY’S LACK OF SUPPORT. AWEFUL!!

  • PS VR2 play option??????

  • Big swing…BIGGER MISS!!! I speak for every single PSVR owner when I say THANK YOU for taking a complete DUMP on all the PSVR1/2 owners that embraced the Astro franchise from the beginning with this beautiful flat screen release of AstroBot (ya know…the little guy that’s basically the PSVR1 mascot). Astro was a constant top 3-5 game on the first gen VR and this is a huge disappointment to myself and ALL PSVR1/2 supporters WORLDWIDE. We aren’t letting this one go!

  • I am very disappointed that Sony did not find a way to make the new Astrobot game playable on PSVR2. I think it has been pretty clear that this was something that was wanted from the very beginning. Not happy at all. Thanks for the disappointment.

  • Won’t be buying if it’s not in VR. It’s what separated it from other and better platformers. Really disappointing tbh, feel like I have been conned into buying a £500 headset that Sony abandons just over a year after launch

  • Where is Astro Bot PS VR2 mode? Or Astro Bot Rescue Mission ported to PS VR2? The lack of software support for PS VR2 and absence of communication is staggering. At this stage, I haven’t been able to recommend PS VR2 to anyone at all.

  • I cannot believe this doesn’t have VR2 support, so. damn. disappointed. Huge supporter of this platform and I just can’t wrap my head around this decision…

  • Please add psvr 2 support! Astro was on ps VR 1 first, and if this game is released as a flat game as well as VR, everyone wins. Besides releasing this game flat without a VR mode, and without any announcement of a new VR astro game has pretty bad optics for the platform.

  • Astro Bot Rescue Mission, and in particular Astro’s Playroom were delightful. I am so, so excited for this game. After completing Playroom, I wanted a longer form adventure with Astro, but wasn’t sure if it would ever happen. This is such a pleasant surprise, and I can’t wait! I was grinning ear to ear playing Playroom (especially as someone who has been playing PlayStation since 1995), and this short trailer already had me smiling. And that catchy theme is just adorable.

  • Astrobot had it’s start on PSVR, so not having support for VR is a slap in the face.

  • End of the Astrobot trailer says it’s coming to PS5R. What’s PS5R?

  • People asked for years for a new Astro with VR support, even just a 3rd person VR camera, and you completely ignored them.

  • NO PSVR2 SUPPORT!???! WOW!! ONLY WAY I WOULD PLAY IT!!! EXTREMELY SICK OF SONY’S LACK OF SUPPORT THAT IM CONSIDERING SELLING LIKE OTHERS. IF I HAVE TO BUILD A PC TO PLAY A QUEST 3 I MIGHT AS WELL SELL THE PS5 TOO!! NO REASON TO KEEP IT. CAN PLAY EVERYTHING ON PC ASIDE FROM LAME SPIDERMAN. THERE EVEN BRINGING GOD OF WAR TO PC LOL

  • Looks like Sony has no plan to support PSVR2 anymore. I’m still going to play it, though.

  • Sony !!!! What you have done? Astro Bot is one of the best VR Games that ever made.
Team Asobi has shown they can make a wonderfull VR Game with the Limits of the PSVR1.Why they can’t make the New Asto Bot as a Hybrid Titel the only explantation for that is Sony you don’t want to Support the PSVR2 any more . So i think the PSVR 2 is dying/dead. It can’t be the way that only third party develpoper make Games for the PSVR2 and Sony does nothing. I think if Sony dosn’t anything in this year for the PSVR2 the lost me as a Fan of the PS5 with the PSVR2 because the normal PS5 Titel are so boring . IT only comes the next same Games out of years with the same game mechanics only with other settings.
I am don’t want to Play the 1001 Shooter or 500 Charakter who is smashing some Monsters. Sony farewell!!!

  • Not even hybrid for PSVR2? I love Astro and this game rocks, but so disappointed in once again seeing PS Studios ignoring PSVR2, from the creators of one of the best games on PSVR or VR in general nonetheless. Will play it for sure, but this does feel like a slap in the face to us both OG Astro fans and PSVR/2 fans.

  • Wow. From the day VR2 was announced I daydreamed about what an Astrobot game would look like on it. I’m crushed to see what an incredible game it could’ve been.

  • Essentially AstroBot Rescue Mission 2, and NO Vr support?? Real gut-punch for fellow psvr2 owners.

  • This game looks amazing ! def getting this I’m surprised it releases in summer

  • ParadiseDecayTM

    Where is the VR SONY???

  • Presumably PSVR2 support is being added at a later date. I’ll wait until Astro returns home.

  • cringe_bingecoot

Can we get a PSVR2 mode please?

  • xflippynuggetsx

Completely UNBELIEVABLE that the new Astro has no PSVR2 support! MASSIVE FAIL!!!

  • PSVR2 SUPPORT IS A MUST WHAT IS THIS!???

  • Looks like a great game. Very disappointing I’ll have to miss it if there’s no PSVR2 support. It’s gotta coming right Sony??

  • This is the only good announcement. Still nothing from other first party devs and not even a Wolverine or Venom footage, but more pointless PC ports.

  • So disappointed there is no psvr2 support. Come on Asobi, we need this.

  • remus_the_great

I am beyond disappointed that this is not supporting PSVR2. This was a major reason that many PSVR1 supporters (including myself) believed in the next generation of VR and purchased a PSVR2 on day one. Team Asobe really let their hardcore fans down with this decision.

  • Could the ‘Coming to PS5R’ at the end of the trailer be some sort of hybrid branding?

  • Why no PSVR2 though? I thought for sure it will at least be a hybrid VR game.
It was VR which made Astro Bot as popular as it is today, no?

As a wise man once said: My Disappointment Is Immeasurable And My Day Is Ruined!

  • Sony / team asobi how can you not include PS VR2 support. What a complete disappointment. Feeling let down by Sony after supporting PSVR from day 1 ….sad times. Still time to make amends????

  • No psvr2 mode???

  • I want to go out on a limb and say you guys didnt reveal PSVR2 support yet inorder to not confuse the flat screeners on what a hybrid game is. I hope thats the case.

  • This game absolutely needs psvr2 support!

  • Personally, while I’m thrilled about the arrival of Astro Bot, I believe that announcing Rescue Mission 2 for the PSVR2 would have been the ultimate news! I understand that VR is still a niche market and games need to be profitable. However, I urge you to create Astro Bot Rescue Mission 2, it’s truly one of the best VR games ever made!

  • Where is the PSVR2 support?!

  • I’m so excited, I can’t wait to play!

  • No vr mode no buy, rip psvr2

  • No PSVR2 is crazy. Please tell us there will be a Version which is payable in VR 🥺

  • I hope Sony looks at all the comments here critical of the lack of announced PSVR2 support with this new Astrobot game – particularly those comments with little yellow D-pads next to their name – and realizes that there is future money on the line here, and that our PSVR2s are not just a sunk cost for some of us: they are ongoing commitments. And those commitments can be revoked or altered to affect Sony’s bottom line.

I’m overjoyed to see Astrobot coming back, but that enthusiasm is deeply dulled if Astrobot is not going to be deployed in VR.

  • Please include some sort of VR supprt.

  • We need our little Astro Bot on the PSVR 2! Happy that more people will experience him too but please bring him back to VR as well.

  • Please include VR support.

  • PSVR2 Support?

  • Please consider adding PSVR2 support! Astrobot is Sony’s VR mascot.

We need the sequel or remaster on PSVR2.

  • Really hoping that PSVR2 support is in the works for this. 🤞
