Astro Bot arrives on PS5 September 6

Join Astro on his own supersized space adventure.

Hi everyone! On behalf of Team Asobi, I have the immense pleasure to unveil our new game Astro Bot coming to PlayStation 5.

A video speaks a thousand words so please check out our first trailer to see the game in action.

Astro Bot arrives on PS5 September 6

Since making an appearance at the launch of PlayStation 5, Astro has introduced many players to the magic of PlayStation. We received a ton of heart-warming comments about how much fun the game was, how it utilized the DualSense wireless controller in fun ways and how it paid tribute to 25 years of PlayStation history. From the bottom of our robotic hearts, thank you very much for all your support!

We listened to your comments and now, Astro is back in a super-sized space adventure, his biggest to date.

This image shows Astro riding his Dual Speeder above the clouds. A flock of pink flamingos fly around him. Poking through the clouds in the distance are mountainous outcrops with green grass and pink trees at their top.

In this brand-new game, you will explore 6 galaxies and over 80 levels in search of Astro’s scattered crew. Hold on tight to your Dual Speeder and dive down to each unique planet, from lush forests, sandy beaches, hot volcanoes to more surprising locations such as a gigantic hourglass or the canopy of a singing tree!

In this image, Astro stands on a lush grassy field. Towering behind him is a thick trunked tree, adorned with a mouth-like cavity and two glowing blue eyes which observe the tiny bot in front of it.

To get help on his mission, Astro can use over 15 new abilities offering unique play styles. As you would expect from an Astro game, these take full advantage of the DualSense controller, its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers so you can feel every little step along the journey. Among the many new powers, you will find Barkster, the Bulldog Booster that lets you air-dash and smash through enemies, metal and glass, the Twin-Frog Gloves that offer long-range punching and the ability to swing and the Giant Sponge that lets you suck up water from the environment to grow huge and cause massive (and slightly moist) destruction. Combined with improved Astro controls, these new powers take the Astro platforming experience to new heights, while remaining accessible for all. We can’t wait for you to get your hands on these and let us know how they feel.

In this image, flexing a pair of green Twin-Frog Gloves, Astro attacks a towering creature that engulfs that majority of the screen.

We also cranked up the number of baddies too with over 70 new types, including massive bosses at the end of each galaxy. Special mention to the deadly cobra queen Lady Venomara who appears in the trailer, waiting for you in her golden lair. Defeating each boss will uncover a wonderful secret but we don’t want to spoil that, so our lips are sealed😊. And for the brave ones of you craving even more challenge, the game comes packed with die-and-retry levels to test your reflexes.

In this image, with a metal rooster clad to his back, Astro Bot observes a mammoth metallic cobra, the tail of which slithers across the platform in front, kicking up dust. Behind that green and gold-bangled body rises the snake’s head.

But that’s not all, during this epic adventure, Astro will reunite with many friends from the PlayStation universe. The trailer shows only a few but we double down on the cast and hope to delight every PlayStation fan out there. And who knows, maybe this time, these characters will play an even bigger part in saving the day?  (wink)

This image is a close up of a winking Astro Bot, who proudly displays a robotic hound who’s positioned on his back like a backpack.

That’s all for now. Thank you for reading. At Team Asobi, we believe in the second-to-second fun and joy of video games. And with this new Astro Bot game, we invested all our love and craft to bring a constant smile to your face, as you run, jump, bop enemies and find the many secrets and jokes we dotted around.  We will be waiting for you on September 6!

This image shows a Kratos-like Bot facing the camera, tightly gripping his Leviathan Axe, which hovers above a tree stump.

We’ll be back soon with more details about the game as well as pre-orders opening up June 7. Until then, power up your DualSense, Team Asobi and Astro are taking you on a PlayStation space adventure to remember!

  • P S V R 2 .

  • So disappointed that this isn’t on PSVR2!!! Astrobot Rescue Mission on PSVR1 was amazing, this would be incredible on PSVR2.

  • Where is the PSVR 2 version? What the hell are you guys doing??

  • Why isn’t there a VR mode?!

    • Deanusmaximus83X

No psvr2 for the one game that was an absolute no brainer to be hybrid at least . What a kick in the teeth for everyone that invested their hard earned money into a great product that you seem to not care about 1st party wise . Seems that you’re just relying on 3rd party. Absolute joke.

  • Psvr2 mode please. Game looks absolutely perfect other than that.

  • Abandoning PS VR2 after just over a year is honestly disgraceful. What a waste of £500

  • This is an absolute crime if it doesn’t come to PSVR2. How utterly disappointing, and a slap in the face to a mascot with VR roots. There is NO REASON this couldn’t run on your 1 YEAR OLD $550 hardware…

    Words cannot describe the disappointment.

    Please address this.

  • PSVR 2 Support!

  • Will get PSVR2 support?

  • I’m absolutely gutted that this is not coming to PSVR2.

Astro is an extremely beloved mascot with its ROOTS in vr. It feels SO wrong to not have this game be a hybrid release.

Please 🙏 please add in vr support!!!

  • Astrobot Rescue mission is a masterclass platformer in VR and remains my topic gaming experience in nearly 30 years. It single handedly rekindled the pure joy and magic a game could deliver, that I hadn’t experienced since I first played Mario 64 or ocarina of time. I am extremely disappointed and have no interest in playing flat ASTRO. I won’t be joining Astro this time time. Farewell Astro, and thanks for some of the best VR gaming experiences I have had to date.

  • ChiefSitzOnBowl

Astro Bot looks amazing for the fourth time. I don’t see a single reason to not have at least the most basic PS VR2 support.

  • PSVR2? A game celebrating PlayStation with no support seems like a slight to their VR fans.

  • Why no psvr2 support? This makes no sense at all! A total wasted opportunity.

  • Hello ! Great to see a new astrobot game coming out ! I really hope there will be at least some vr mode levels in the astrobot for the psvr2.

  • KennethRockerson

    PsVr2 Please!!!

  • Four_Wise_Monkey

We definitely need PSVR2 support!!!! Such a good game 🤘

  • Rap_Is_Not_Music

    Physical copy

  • Can’t believe not even a mention of PSVR2.

  • The fact that this isn’t PSVR2 is an absolute CRIME. Do better, Sony and team Asobi…

  • golden_hind_172

    PS VR2?

  • KennethRockerson

    PsVr2 Please Sony!

  • Four_Wise_Monkey

    PSVR2

  • Any Chance for PSVR2 support at all? I don’t even need a tracked controller, I just wanna be in there with the cool lil guy… :(
    I’m so sad :(

  • Not going to come here and doom and gloom what looks like another phenominal game. Do hope that we see some further VR support from the team there and will hold judgement untill after playing through the game in Sept. But if there’s zero inclusion of the PSVR2 in the final game in at least in-game model I will not only be shocked but also very annoyed with that choice. Love the games and look forward to all you put out despite the somewhat bitter taste this ones left as a trailer.

  • PSVR2?

  • wolfkingarashi_

Love Astro bot but the way I want to play is definitely in VR. So I guess I’m gonna have to wait till then or maybe next game? :(

Hopefully you guys can put in some psvr2 support! Thanks.

  • This absolutely has to have PSVR2 Support… ??? Huge miss if it doesn’t :(

  • Please add PSVR2 support!!!!

  • Abandoning PS VR2 less than a year after launch is honestly disgraceful. What a waste of £500

  • KennethRockerson

    Psvr2

  • No vr support, no support from me. Miss you Astro, this one hurts.

  • No PSVR2 support ??? why not!! you’ve brought over all the old bosses from the greatest VR platformer ever made that flat screen gamers won’t get the reference to!. Flat screen gamers definitely won’t feel the nostalgic joy of seeing the old bosses take on a small robot again.

  • So disappointed that it’s not on PSVR2. Astrobot Rescue Mission was amazing on PSVR1. This would be incredible on PSVR2!

  • This looks genuinely incredible! When Astro’s Playroom came out, me and my little brother came up with a full plan for a sequel with playable playstation characters. This looks exactly like what i wanted. I’m hyped!

  • Looking great, can’t wait!

  • KennethRockerson

Sony this must get PsVr2 support!!

  • This looks fantastic, but we want a PS VR2 option, please!

  • KennethRockerson

Sony this must get PsVr2 support

  • Can’t wait it looks amazing.

  • Whyyy not a hybrid?? A lot of people say that Sony is backing out from VR and this symbolically confirms it due to the obvious relation Astro have with the VR community. Are you defining the saying “self-fulfilling prophecy” here, Sony?

  • Nicolas as much as I love the look and I am sure tight gameplay I won’t be buying this because of making a stand over non Vr and I hope anyone who bought VR2 will do same!
Plus anyone that will be thinking of purchasing vr2 don’t bother!

I am hoping this is mentioned at a later date and or also a port of rescue mission.

  • No PSVR2 support, no buy.

  • I also made a forum thread and lots of people said they would wait for a sale if this was full price!
Vr owners said they would pay full price if hybrid (flat and vr)

  • This is some of the most disappointing news as a psvr2 adopter. The one game everyone has been screaming that they want so badly, and one that seems would be incredibly easy to let people play in VR, and you completely shun them. Get ready for non stop negative press about how Sony is abandoning the headset and support. And as someone who has been the optimist for a year and a half I’m probably going to go silent.

Hopefully this releases on pc so I can play it there. Otherwise I may just let it go to rest. Shame on you Sony. Truly is the letdown of the year right here.

  • No PSVR 2 support makes absolutely no sense. You wonder why you get so much bad press when you pull stuff like this smh

  • I would really appreciate some PSVR2 support. I’m staring to get Vita flashbacks lol.

  • What an absolute kick in the pants from Sony here. The one game everyone has been waiting for in VR and you give us nothing. Cue the media reporting psvr2 support is dead and the headset is being abandoned. And this time I’m not going to fight the negativity. This is a HUGE miss and giant letdown.

  • Worse than no new Astro game in vr is Sony not even acknowledging the vr community, knowing the backlash this would create. They just don’t care about vr.

  • Come on Sony, you are just being mean at this point. #psvr2
