New pricing changes to PlayStation Plus 12-Month plans.

It’s a new month, with a new lineup of PlayStation Plus Monthly Games for September. The Monthly Games lineup of Saints Row, Black Desert – Traveler Edition and Generation Zero will be available to PlayStation Plus members on Tuesday, September 5 until Monday, October 2. 

Let’s take a closer look at each of the games in turn. 

Saints Row | PS4, PS5 

Experience the biggest and best Saints Row playground ever created.  The unique sprawling world of Santo Ileso is the backdrop for a wild, larger than life sandbox of thrilling side hustles, criminal ventures and blockbuster missions, as you shoot, drive and wingsuit your way to the top. Take over the city block by block, wage war against enemy factions and tighten your grip on the streets. Play online with a friend at any time, via fully untethered drop-in / drop out co-op, skipping the need to take either of you out of the outlandish action. 

Black Desert – Traveler Edition | PS4 

Find your calling in this open-world fantasy MMORPG which boasts fast-paced PvE combat, large-scale PvP siege wars, multiple character classes and combat types to specialize in. You can also choose to dedicate yourself to a variety of pursuits, such as trade, fishing, horse training, alchemy, cooking, and gathering. The Traveler Edition is a bundle of the base game and multiple add-ons*. 

*Those add-ons collectively constitute The Traveler Item Pack, which is also available on PlayStation Store as a separate download. PlayStation Plus members who have already purchased any edition of Black Desert cannot redeem the full Traveler Edition bundle from PlayStation Plus. However, PlayStation Plus members who have already purchased any edition of Black Desert other than the Traveler Edition may redeem the standalone Traveler Item Pack from PlayStation Plus, instead. 

Generation Zero

This first-person open world adventure is set in a familiar but hostile open world of 1980s Sweden. Battle and survive deadly machine enemies alone or with three friends in seamless online co-op as you discover the truth behind what’s happened to the region. You must choose your battles wisely as you engage in adrenaline-pumping guerilla combat against these mechanical forces. Scavenge parts from your fallen enemies and use them to craft equipment, weapons and ammunition. Build and fortify your own bases across the island and start taking back your home.

PlayStation Plus members have until Monday, September 4 to add PGA Tour 2K23, Dreams and Death’s Door to their game library. 

We also wanted to let you know that starting September 6 we will be increasing the price for PlayStation Plus 12-month subscriptions globally across all benefit plans. This price adjustment will enable us to continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service. 

Here are the new prices for PlayStation Plus 12-month subscription plans.

PlayStation Plus Extra 12-Month Subscription

159.99 USD | 151,99 Euro | 119.99 GBP | 13,900 Yen

The new prices for the 12-Month subscription will remain at a discounted rate when compared to purchasing the 1-Month or 3-Month subscriptions over a 12-month period. 

For current 12-month subscribers, this price increase will not take effect until your next renewal date that occurs on or after November 6. However, any membership changes you make on or after September 6, such as upgrades, downgrades or buying additional time, will update your plan reflecting the new prices.  You can change or cancel your subscription at any time, details here.

We’ll notify current subscribers of these changes via email and will have additional details on our website soon.

    I’ve owned every PS console and have been a Plus subscriber since the beginning. I will be cancelling my subscription permanently if these price hikes go through. My spouse will be doing the same. I’m convinced Sony is being sabotaged from within at this point, because so many of the latest decisions have been disastrous. They are out of their minds with these latest price increases.

    This is insane. And the excuse that it’s in order to bring us quality games doesn’t hold water at all. Most games I play have to be patched again and again and again on the day of release. Who else gets away with selling broken products? And the amount! what justifies such a huge increase?! Everyone is squeezing us, all the streamers the grocery store. Everything! and on the back of a pandemic when people really need to use digital time with friends even more. This is a dirty thing to do to your loyal fanbase. You’re just following Xbox…again!
    Let’s not forget that ps3 was free. Then the four comes out and we have to pay. And then you go up in price multiple times while providing no extra benefit or services. I can’t even get Sony help on the phone for a year now! Not to mention your controllers don’t even come with a charging cord. Paying for internet. Paying for the system. Buy a headset. Buying a controller and second charge cord. Not to mention games. And the DLC which is full of things that used to come with the game you bought in the first place. You guys soak us dry. This is pure greed
    So. Now I will not be buying a ps5. I am going to stop my plans for getting any new games. And I will not buy any DLC for any Plus games as it is pointless because we don’t actually get to keep these games.

    Been with Playstation from the very beginning and all the way thru. But this is it.

    i’m so sorry, but why is sony under the impression that anything they offer is worth 80$ let alone 160$? do they think their services is that good? that the benefits are good? because they’re not. 80$ just to play online is incredibly silly. but like good luck though, can’t wait to see the subscription decrease.

    If the players go to Xbox it will never be for “Call Of Duty”, if not for the best customer service, hopefully Sony will become a publisher if you don’t change, by the end of the year, I hope I have my Xbox.

    I just canceled my subscription. PS plus is already a bad value at 60 dollars a year, and now they are asking for more. I only want access to online gaming and cloud saves. I don’t need these “free” games pushed off on me as an excuse to ask for more money. I can choose the games I play by myself.

    Welcome to the real world. Everything has increased in price. Paying an extra $20 annually for essential (<$2/month) is still cheaper than paying 1 or 3 months over a year, as it says in the article.

    I don’t like that I’m being forced to pay more for just wanting to play online. Please make playing online free, and have essential cost money. I don’t want the games, they suck and aren’t worth the money. Also, way to just sneak out in there, you say not to be a jerk when making comments, maybe look in the mirror

    That’s asking to much. As soon as my subscription end I’m ending it. It’s already hard to buy games that I want but with this price jump. It’s out of my budget. It makes me sad Sony would do this when inflation is already so bad. $10 increase might of been expectable or $15 for Premium but $40. And $20 more for just essential. I just want to play online with my friends with out being forced to pay more. They might say better free games, but that will last 2 maybe 3 months then they’ll drop the ball.

    Why is Sony. One of the largest companies in the world increasing the prices for playstation plus. I contacted support to ask. Waited over an hour in a queue and was disconnected right after I asked the same question. There’s no reason for this service to go up in price. Everything already costs enough as it is.

    Pricing makes no sense. EU and UK used to be the same. No UK is cheaper than EU.

    I almost never come on to the Blog site for anything other than to sometimes check the free games, but yeah, I’ve been subbed since a sub was required and I’m also very likely just gonna drop. 80 bucks for what? I stopped buying first-party games directly new because I didn’t want to support Sony and now they’re not gonna get any more of my money. If my controllers get drift, I’ll buy a new one and return the old one, or fix them myself. I’ve been just throwing money at them for over a decade now and I think it’s time I stop.

    Between Bungie with their shenanigans and now Sony now joining the price gouging culture, the days of me doing any type of serious gaming are numbered. I’m pretty much ready to just walk away from D2: The Final Shape and it’s going like this…. If I don’t do the D2 next year, then there’s no reason for me to continue this subscription stuff.

    Lol. I never touched my ps4 and my psn account back in 2018 since i got a pc. Paying to play online, ( and correct me if I’m wrong here) paywalling classic games just sucks man. I have tons of games on steam and im staying with pc and never looking back

    I will still get a ps5 just to play gravity rush 2 and ratchet and clank 2016 because my ps4 is freaking loud lol.

    Before adding a comment, the PS Blog adds in the following bit of advice: “But don’t be a jerk!”

    Announcing a price hike inside an announcement post for the next slate of games being added to the Essential tier, revealing the hike kicks in in about a week’s time.

    How is that not jerk behavior on your end?

    How do you have the stones to announce a price hike for the most basic service you are REQUIRED to have for online multiplayer? How do you not at least announce a new, barebones plan that offers online play + cloud saving for maybe $50 a year (though likely would’ve been at least $60). Sure, the “free games” you get a month would now be harder to sell as free, considering that would be the only benefit you get subscribing to the Essential tier.

    I would be willing to shell out $50 a year for just MP + cloud. Unfortunately we’ve come accustomed to the fact that we have to pay for something that was once free on PlayStation, and remains free on PC (mostly). While I’ve enjoyed the game library we’ve gotten for over 10 years, I would be willing to cut it if it means I have to pay upwards to $80 a year to keep it.

    What library additions have you added to the highest tier for the PS3/PS2 library since adding the new tiers a year ago?

    When is it enough? Gamers had to shell out hundreds above MSRP for PS5s in the first couple of years (which is not entirely the fault of Sony). Then, when shortages were resolved, Sony decides to up the price in select territories officially. Games raised $10 more this generation; the argument being games haven’t raised in price since 2005. While true, we have seen an overabundance in monetization in games today as compared to pre 2005. A $70 game isn’t a $70 game for everything. It’s an introductory fee for some games.

    More and more games require an online connection (single player content included) – which means WHEN those servers go offline, most – if not all of the game’s content goes away.

    We see this company develop the PlayStation Portal, a $200 exceptionally niched product. Instead of using those same resources to maybe add native PS3 backwards compatibility to the PS5, a far more exciting feature for gamers, we see time wasted on an accessory that die hards will likely buy. But if we get that feature, it makes the highest tier of PS Plus even more overpriced and useless.

    Fan service goes a long way, and for a while there Sony was hitting it pretty well. But this generation we’ve seen more perceived negative come out of Sony than positive. A claimed focus on live service, overpriced/underselling add ons, a handful of price increases with no real value added, and just a tone deaf attitude.

    This likely won’t be seen by anyone that has any effect on decision making, but this needs to be rectified. Stop milking us for all that we got. Gaming is a business for sure, but seriously, when is it enough already?

    I never really comment on these but logged in just to add my name to the list of folks canceling. $60 to $80 on the Essential plan is excessive and insulting, especially with ZERO ADDED VALUE. Just a reminder, people: you can cancel and still have access for the rest of your term. So don’t wait to cancel if you wanna make a stand. Do it now so they see us. I’m not up till June but am canceling now so they know I will NOT allow a renewal at the new price. See ya, Sony.

    I think this price increase is very disrespectful to loyal fans. The fact you’re giving a weeks notice at the bottom of a article shows you knew the feedback wouldn’t be positive and the lack of respect for fans/consumers of PlayStation. You need to make multiplayer free like PS3. And if the value/quality is a intended like you’re stating here in the article. People will see it and remain subscribed. But this announcement is super disappointing and tone deaf.
