Pre-orders for the PS VR2 headset, games, and PS VR2 Sense Controller charging station are underway starting today.

Today, I’m very pleased to announce that PlayStation VR2 is officially launching on February 22, 2023. PlayStation VR2 Sense controller charging station, designed specifically for the PS VR2 Sense controller, will also launch the same day.

Here is the PS VR2 lineup and recommended retail pricing for each product. Availability in each country is subject to local import regulations.

Standalone software titles, including Horizon Call of the Mountain, will also be available for pre-orders starting this month. More details will be provided at a later date.

During this initial launch phase for our next-gen headset, players in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg will initially be able to pre-order PlayStation VR2 solely through PlayStation’s online store at direct.playstation.com. Pre-orders will begin on November 15, and players may begin to register for pre-orders starting today. Orders from direct.playstation.com for PlayStation VR2 headsets and bundles will ship throughout the week of launch.

In other markets, PlayStation VR2 will be sold at participating retailers, with pre-orders beginning on November 15. Information will be provided through participating local retailers in these regions.

PlayStation VR2 Sense Technology includes key features that enable unique gameplay experiences, such as headset feedback, eye tracking, 3D audio, and the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback from the PS VR2 Sense controllers. Together with compatible games they will captivate players’ senses and offer an incredibly deep feeling of immersion.

Additionally, with enhanced headset-based controller tracking and high fidelity visuals in 4000 x 2040 HDR video format (2000 x 2040 per eye), PS VR2 adds a true next-gen gaming experience for players to enjoy.

We’ve created the PS VR2 headset with comfort in mind, in a slightly slimmer and lighter design compared to our previous headset. We’ve also included an integrated vent for extra air flow, and a lens adjustment dial for a more customized feel. We hope players will enjoy this new design.

Today, we are also pleased to reveal additional titles coming to PlayStation VR2, with fresh new reveals on new titles that are currently in development for PlayStation VR2. Read our announcement here.

It’s exciting to see how game developers are taking advantage of the PS VR2’s headset features to design the next generation of VR games. We’re expecting more than 20 titles at launch, and we can’t wait for February when PS VR2 launches so players can give it a try.  We’ll have more details on our launch game lineup in the future, so stay tuned.

  • Ok 😐

  • Registered and no email confirmation?! How can this be? This has me a bit worried. I still feel the pain from the ps5 pre order. I ended up having to camp out at my local Game Stop right after work and then went right back to work the next day to get one on release day. I really don’t want to have to do that again. Please don’t let the scalpers ruin this launch. Just sell to us who have verified pan accounts! The ps5 release was a disaster!

  • Please give us Gran Turismo 7 VR please Sony. Where is Gran Turismo 7 VR? Sony it’s a system seller, why not?

  • Home cash earning job to earns more than $500 per day. getting paid weekly more than $3.5k or more simply doing easy work online. regular earning from this are just awesome.

  • The price being above the price of the PS5 is a big psychological problem. However, the main issue is that I’m currently very excited about the hardware, but the software lineup is very sparse at present. There needs to be a PSVR2 showcase with a couple of great first-party games and personally, I need to know that the best games from PSVR1 will be ported to PSVR2.

  • There will be more games announced before launch, with others to follow throughout 2023 and beyond. The quality of which remains to be seen. With the current announcements on launch titles, PVR2 will effectively be deployed on a paid-beta system. Looks like they’re going for a slow initial roll-out to manage supply. Ironically it’d likely be counter-productive to create huge demand for VR2 that they are unable to fill at this point, particularly if there was a whole host of AAA titles at launch. The lack of backwards compatibility, or confirmed PS4/VR1 to PS5/VR2 upgrades also probably serves as a useful tool to stem demand. PSVR1 will ultimately be irrelevant, so the transition will need to take place at some point. For those wishing to fully experience VR2 across a deep range of AAA titles across varied genres, this’ll be a very long road. Basically it doesn’t look the VR2 is really ready for mass release by virtue of the lack of content, on the same accord you can’t hold the tech back for too long so need to get something out there to encourage developers before the new tech then becomes obsolete!

  • The hardware seems pretty good value for money. The price is slightly higher probably due to inflation changes recently/market changes.

It is more expensive than most people predicted (including myself) but the tech is pretty advanced.

The biggest issue is lack of AAA exclusive PSVR 2 games. The launch lineup is weak and most other games can be played on PC VR devices.

Another bummer is that it only works on PS5 and not PC. I’ve been a lifelong PlayStation fan but I don’t know if I can justify this at launch mainly due to lack of decent exclusive games.

  • I’m actually shocked that PSVR2 is more expensive than a base PS5 (original price was $499 disk and $399 digital). I was expecting a price point between $400 (sweet spot) and $450 (at the most). With such a high price point, I suspect mainstream customers are not going to opt into it. With it being such a niche market for current PS players, I don’t think it’s going to be such a huge seller and might join the Vita in the future. I hope I am proven wrong and that more people adopt and buy it and the PSVR2 has a long life on the PS5 and will also be compatible with PS6 when that comes out. If they somehow figured out how to make all PSVR1 titles backwards compatible with PSVR2, then a purchase would be a no brainer for me. I am just hoping that most of my PSVR1 games will be updated by the developers to work with the PSVR2 around launch time. So for me personally, PSVR2 is a wait and see approach. If there are more games post launch, and developers update their old games to be compatible, then I’ll definitely be picking it up, but until then, I’ll watch from the side lines or for a price reduction in the future.

  • People moaning about the price??? A PC VR headset that can match this will set you back £1200+!!! The Oculus Quest 2 is fantastic but basic compared to this, that’s £399!!! So many clueless people on here!! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

  • Hi Sony. This is great news. I have never been excited for a gaming / tech product more than psvr2!!! I have a suggestion which you might already have in your plans, please release the headset with a 10 or 20 VR ps plus collection including remastered psvr1 games similar to ps5. This should surely lower the negativity in the media surrounding the price and be a great incentive for newcomers

  • $549.99 for a PSVR2? Bruh. Why the price? I thought it is going to be $500 less than the PS5. There, there’s a coal in you stocking, Lyin Jim Ryan. Always being an arrogant boss.

  • No matter what Sony does good or bad, there will always be what I’ll call, “The toxic Sony Cronies.” Any criticism large or small and the Sony Cronies go on the ATACK, telling you that you are WRONG and how Sony in their infinite corporate wisdom is ALWAYS CORRECT. Without fail, the Sony Cronies come up out of the woodwork. For instance, I 100% agree that price of this VR headset is way too high, not only that, but where are the actual Killer Apps aka Games for this headset? No backwards compatibility. And, a handful of what looks like mediocre titles at best. And we’re talking like $600 bucks plus tax with an included game. And yet, the Sony Cronies will defend the price. Let’s be honest, if the price were $1200 dollars they would tell you what a bargain it is. I can’t, in good faith, have a meaningful dialog with toxic stepfords, parrots, and automatons. Bottom line is the price for this system is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE and I hope the market reflects that and simple refuses to purchase this unit at this exorbitant price. No Sir, No way. Not me. Not today.

  • Hello.

Horizon Call of The Mountain is going to come out in physical format?

I only buy games that come out in physical format. I will never buy games in digital format. Thanks.

  • I’ve seen a lot of comments on here where people seem outraged at the price and to a certain degree, I get it because when you live in the console gaming world, there seems to be a cap at $500 and peripherals are always less…that said, as an owner of several PC VR headsets, I’d like to share my perspective and try to persuade you as to why this isn’t overpriced, and is actually a bit of a bargain.

The PSVR2 headset lenses – these are 2000 x 2040 OLED lenses that support 120Hz.
The Vive Pro 2 headset is $800 BY ITSELF and the lenses are 2448 × 2448 LCD displays.
    – While the resolution on the Pro 2 is slightly better, the OLED displays in the PSVR2 should be superior in almost every way.
    – To drive the Vive Pro 2, you need a rather beefy video card AND PC – which will set you back at LEAST $1500 – and that won’t drive it to the highest levels of details.
    – Additionally, to get similar controllers to the ones included with the PSVR2, you’d likely have to pick up a set of Valve Index controllers – those will set you back another $279
    – Now, you’ll ALSO need at least two base stations – setting you back another $298 (149/each)

For the setup above on the equivalent PC experience, you’re at a total of $2,877 for a mid-level setup that will drive the headset to HIGH detail levels (not ultra).

That doesn’t even account for the fact that the PSVR2 has eye tracking, haptic feedback in the headset and some AAA titles that will likely be amazing. All for a combined price of a PS5 $499 for a disc version plus $549 for the PSVR2 – so $1148 – that’s a savings of more than $1,700 for what LOOKS to be superior technology. Granted, you can do more with a PC than just gaming, but if your goal is the ultimate VR experience, it’s looking like the PSVR2 will deliver in spades for what looks to be a reasonable asking price…IMO

  • Add backwards compatibility and PC support, and I’d definitely consider buying one… Otherwise, this is horrible ‘value’

  • Hope I get an invite soon, I can’t wait for this to release!!!!

  • At that price it should have full PC support DAY 1. This is a pass

  • Are there going to be more invites sent I’m ready to buy

  • I bought the first psvr and honestly after driveclubs little vr effort that was all there really was for me. My headset is still basically new and unused. If this one doesn’t add GT7 it will be a BIG bust again for VR, and no point to buy it especially being worth an entire console, I rather buy a Xbox and have 2 systems

  • I’ve got PS5 for $750, how much would it really cost?

  • Anyone receive an email confirmation regarding their registration for the pre-order?

  • I sold all my Sony stock the company really shows little care for it’s consumers sometimes and I won’t support this behavior. Leadership is so out of touch it’s embarrassing.

  • Don’t like the pricing but if I’m considering upgrading my PS VR1 and wait a year. Price will be the same and the stock will be like PS5 2-years later and hard to find. Sure u get a small restock of PS5 but the majority of PS4 gamers can’t find one to upgrade. Price ain’t going down people.
This generation isn’t like the last one, gamers wait 3 years and price drops. We’re 2 years in this generation and you can’t walk-in to a store and purchase a PS5 off the shelf. PS VR2? Preorder registration is a thing!
Only 5% of PS4 user bought PSVR 1(6mil sold), 125mil PS4. It’s a niche product for that players base. Not for everyone.

  • Can we make a payment plan on vr2?

  • I got mine pre-ordered today, I can’t wait!!

  • thanks sony for neglecting to mention pre orderds strtig today didnt include EVERYWHERE/ONE… I drove to gamestop for nothing…

  • Someone didn’t proofread this. “Netherlands (French)” should be “Belgium (Dutch)”, and “Luxemburg (Dutch)” should be “Luxembourg (German).

  • I won’t preorder before they announce the launch line-up. The hardware looks and sounds amazing, but if there is only one game to play at launch, I’m better off waiting a few months.

    • I pre-ordered it, but I agree. They need to add VR modes to actual games like Forbidden West, GT, Ghost of Tsushima, GoW…
Call of the Mountain looks like an amusement park experience. It’s great, but we need real games on PSVR2.

  • Where in this conversation or article that Canada is mentioned whatsoever, can I assume that will be on the Playstation.ca website instead….??

  • Well, this ended up not going well. People who didn’t even register got pre-orders, and the many of the more dedicated early adopters are left frustrated and with no options. This may be a good product, but with yet another poor product launch punctuated with borderline antagonistic policies, it’s very hard to argue in your favor at the moment. It was at least less catastrophic than the PS5 itself.

  • I registered to pre-order the PSVR2 headset since this article first went up over a week ago and still didn’t get an invite today. =/

  • Without full-game-mode GT7 support with wheel & pedal compatibility, this is a big pass for me. Not nearly enough decent titles on the horizon worth making this kind of investment for yet. Especially since there’s no PC compatibility! Huge turn-off, especially considering the lack of decent content that will be available for it on PS5.

We played enough shallow shoot-em-up games with plastic guns in the arcade 20 years ago, let’s get to something serious and immersive. I’m not paying $550+ dollars to play half a dozen pretty looking time crisis clones.

  • 600 euros in Europe is an absolute disgrace.
Sony won’t get away with lumping a 50 euro tax on every piece of hardware in Europe. That’s an insult to people in Europe from Sony. People with sense won’t buy it.

    • What are you talking about? It’s not more expensive in Europe than it is in the US. The US price doesn’t include taxes because they’re different in every state…
So in Europe it costs around 525EUR plus taxes and in the US 550USD plus taxes.

  • Where is HL Alyx?? If PC gamers can get PS exclusives where is pc exclusive in return??

  • After doing more research the price is reasonable. It has the best features and you don’t need an expensive PC- it works with PS5. The oculus 2 is cheap but can only display very basic graphics without being wired to a powerful PC.

This is too much for me but price is probably about right.

  • That’s too expensive and when you add in the fact that PS5 consoles are being sold at inflated prices, that’s just too much.

  • I’m so excited for February and I pre-ordered!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Sony add VR modes to regular AAA Sony Studios games. We can see with PC modders that it can be done to almost any game. That’s what will change it from a gimmicky accessory to a must have!

Call of the Mountain is great, but I want to play Zero Dawn and Forbidden West in VR – an actual fully fleshed out game.

  • Isabelle Tomatis,

As a global brand and market manager based in London, can you explain how pre-order invitations are handled? The criteria of your team’s algorithm? (What am I saying? Of course you can’t and won’t.) I mean specifically, because I read the vague and ambiguous FAQ. I’m feeling a little disappointed.

I realize consumer entitlement is a thing and all people are equal… I fought tooth and nail to get a PS5 at MSRP because the scalpers were so horrible and prevalent. I appreciate that this new invitation to pre-order system may be intended to combat that sort of exploitive behavior. Sincerely, you have my compliments. Yet here I am, a PS5 Owner, PS4 Pro Owner, a PSVR Owner, with years of continuous membership to PS Plus, and all of these devices are registered. I promptly registered to participate in the PSVR 2 pre-order invitation, early in fact, and I’ve got nothing. No-email. No way to pre-order. Nothing in the spam filter. Just no invitation.

On one hand, I’m not sure I agree with a “worthiness” ranking. I mean, I might be upset if I was deemed unworthy because past circumstances could have prevented me from buying as much Playstation products as I did, as I much as someone else would have liked. On the other hand, days like this I wonder why anybody has any brand loyalty. I say that you in your compacity as brand and marketing manager. I registered just like all these other fortunate people and I received no invitation.

That’s my bad luck I suppose, but that sort of thing makes you start to look at competitors or just saving your money for the next novelty. I haven’t decided. It might make me feel better if your team announced another wave of invitations soon.

  • Really strange people keep bringing up Quest 2 doesn’t understand whom this is for and what quality of headset this is. Lots of misunderstanding and trying to rip off a company when they are trying to bring a top of the line hardware for less than even $700!

This is going against a $999 Valve Index as competition. Not Quest 2, this thing has better technology and hardware by almost multiple hardware generations.

Price, sure it’s expensive but $549 is LESS after inflation than a $499 disc PS5 two years ago.

If you think it’s to expensive that’s fine, but obviously you don’t understand the global economy situation happening, inflation in the US, what the PSVR2 is going up against currently, nor understand the VR hardware pricing/technology is currently at top end.

The biggest issue this thing has against it will be availability and launch titles. That’s about it. Cord? Ha the Quest 2 connected to a powerful PC sucks in WiFi mode. You really need to use a cord still. Current gen quality VR wireless still isn’t a thing even on PC. The technology really isn’t there yet still which is unfortunate but will happen probably next generation.

Honestly this seems really well thought out for launch otherwise, honestly almost better than the PS5 console launch itself.

  • Why not Canada!? Cool, cool, cool, cool. Absolutely ridiculous

Fifa, NBA2K, Cod, Final Fantasy, Killzone, Destiny, Monster Hunter, Dragon,s Dogma 2, Spiderman II, GTA VI, TLOU 1 Y 2, GOW, etc…

    Callisto Protocol?

  • I dont care about the price i just have saved up 950€, which is enough for a couple games for now and i enjoy playing those games till i get more money and ps 5 is only 600€ not 800€. Also i dont know why people cant get the psvr 2 like psvr 2 pre orders are at like 10 shops. And i cant wait to play the awesome psvr2.

  • Preordered but PLEASE get Moss 1 and 2 remastered for this thing? Because besides the Horizon game, I see no big game worth buying unlike for PSVR1 at launch??

  • These have some amazing specs and a massive upgrade from the previous VR. It won’t be clunky like the previous one and comparable stats to Zuckerbergs VR that he’s planning on selling for around $1500, this is actually not a horrible price point. On the surface it seems high though it’s an impressive piece.
I got my preorder and I am excited!! Thank you Sony.

  • Is the $549.99 USD or CAD?

  • TBH that’s actually pretty cheap for the specs, I would expect a price drop from some retailers even after only a month though but I am hoping for an aim controller
