New PS5 system software update is out globally today

1440p support, Gamelists and new social features roll out to all PS5 players.

Thanks to the support and feedback from our PS5 beta participants, today we’re rolling out a new system software update to PS5 players globally. The update includes several highly-requested features like 1440p HDMI video output* and gamelists, as well as social features like the ability to request a Share Screen from a fellow party member, easily view new friends’ profiles, and receive a notification to help you join a friend’s game more quickly from a party chat.

Additionally, you can now compare 3D audio and stereo audio on the same screen and more easily access in-progress Activities from game hubs. Check out our beta blog post to get the full scoop on these features, and read on for details about some new and forthcoming updates for PS5 and PS App.

YouTube Search through Voice Command (Preview)

Another feature we’re excited to bring to more PS5 players is the ability to search for content on YouTube through Voice Command (Preview). From anywhere on PS5, including during gameplay, you can say “Hey PlayStation, find [keyword] on YouTube.” The YouTube app will open and relevant search results will be shown.

Note: Voice Command (Preview) is currently available in English for PS5 players with accounts registered to the U.S. and U.K.

New PS App features

In addition to these PS5 console updates, we’re gradually rolling out some new features for PS App globally later this month, on iOS and Android:

Launch a PS Remote Play session through PS App

PS App users will be able to launch a PS Remote Play session directly from PS App on iOS and Android devices. To start, make sure PS App is linked to your PS5 console and your console is in Rest Mode. Then, select the “Play Using PS Remote Play” icon on a PS App game hub, and the PS Remote Play app will automatically launch the game. To enjoy this feature, make sure PS App and the PS Remote Play app are both installed on your mobile or tablet device.

Request Share Screen

Similar to the PS5 feature, PS App users will be able to request another party member playing on PS5 to start a Share Screen session, and then watch their friend’s gameplay from the app. This makes it even easier for you to stay connected with friends while you’re on the go.

*1440p video output on PS5 requires a TV or PC monitor that supports 1440p/60Hz, or 1440p/60Hz and 120Hz. Results may vary depending on the game being played.

VRR on PS5 supports 1080p and 4K video output but not 1440p.

    I am continuing to ask for sorting the list of games in the Trophy menu. Specifically Alphabetical sorting. PS3 and Vita could do it. It’s impossible to find an old game and check how far along we got on the trophies.

    The update has given me a black screen – I have hdmi going through a HDMI to HDMI + audio splitter and now can still hear the audio out of the splitter but something is wrong with the video. If I remove the splitter the video works fine, but then I am forced to use headphones rather than my speakers. Is there some video setting I need to change to make the splitter work again?

      I’m having a similar issue. My ps5 automatically updated to the latest software and when I got home to use it the connection to my hdmi receiver is constantly flickering on and off now. I connected the hdmi cable directly to my tv and didn’t have any issues, so why would this update cause my ps5 hdmi to flicker when plugged in to my receiver? The ps4 still works without issue through the receiver? Fix this/help, I need surround sound!

    I’m sure myself and many other PS4 owners would happily purchase the PS5 if it supported an internet web browser like the PS4 does. Would this ever be a feature?

      Exactly this ☝🏻. I have a PS5 but, have only played it 5 times since I purchased it in February of 22. I continue to play the PS4 almost exclusively because the PS5 has no web browser. I find the 5 to be all but useless as a video game console because of it. As 4K blu-ray player the 5 is great.

    Please add the option to backup individual game saves to external USB storage.

    Playstation…you suck. Xbox already had this in first place! That bout play on your mobile. And this issend so new cause ps4 splitscreen is old asf too. I really can’t wait to get my Xbox soon! I’m never ever getting a playstation again. #psnsucks

    Because we gamers play a lot of video games a year, sometimes we try games from which we might get a trophy and it stays at 1% permanently, so the “hide games for me” feature would be great. On the other hand, another great feature would be to be able to sort the trophies section like in the gamelists.

    That is my suggestion, I hope it is taken into account, otherwise, it seems to me that a very good job is being done with the updates, so thank you very much.

    can you please bring discord to the ps5. party chat on the console is terrible in my opinion. what if you’re playing with people that is cross platform, you have to use another devise and to me that is stupid when we have to pay 800 for a console that will be outdated in a year when a new console arrives. doesnt make any sense to me that you guys havent implemented discord yet at all

    Still do option to hide HD cam while broadcasting? Guys this is ridiculous. Almost 2 years in and it’s still useless, who would want to play games with it on the game screen beats me.

    Any news/update information regarding when a Media Player similar to the one the PS4 received later on post release a few years later? Would be amazing if we could simply utilize this machine for something as simple as a DLNA server like we’ve been on the ps4 and ps3 for forever now. What’s the holdup? It’s extremely basic..

    Please add a 3D audio toggle in the Audio portion of Control Center. I would love to be able to toggle this when playing a game that doesn’t support it. Sucks to have to go into the full Audio settings in order to do this every time.

    This is by far one of the best updates we had gotten for the PS5 since Launch but as for requests, i have a few that i want added to the PS5 console sometime soon:
    1. Amazon Music, the reason i want Amazon music added cause so that way if lets say i want to listen to my favorite song that has dolby atmos available, i can just search it up and your there! This app is already on xbox so why not add it on PS5 consoles?
    2. Broadcast Ps2, ps3 games from Ps Plus: This has been on my wishlist for a while now and like lets say if u want to stream your favorite ps3 game like lets say the last of us and u want to stream it on your favorite platform, This will be a better way to engage viewership and make more and new friends.
    3. Make ps2 and ps3 discs backwards compatible on Ps5!

    Thats all i want for now but i hope that This becomes available in the near future anytime soon!

    Congratulation on adding “folder” but literately ignoring the reason why we wanted which was to have “folders” on home page like we did on ps4 so all our installed game in said folders with labels.

    Not sure how this could messed up short of, seeing pretty much ever new outlet that reviews the system and countless social post told sony why exactly why we want folders. Folders in Game library are usless to most people it already has installed | Collection | Playstation Plus. We want to make said folder on home page like we could on ps4.

    Cool update, but it would be better if an update addressing the faulty software issues was added. Many others like me struggled to get a ps5 only for it to not allow us to play ps5 games. Now I’m expected to pay $200 for a fix? Ridiculous. Maybe it’s not fixable with a software update. Either way I hope they remove that issue from newer consoles. Wouldn’t want anyone to deal with this problem. Hope we get that soon.

    Thank you Sony for listening to a much needed feature! 1440 p @ 120 fps is great on well optimized games. Some prefer PC monitors over tv monitors for various reasons. Please continue making great triple A games regardless of what the competition is doing. Quality>quantity.

    I just want SiriusXM where Apple is & the “What’s going on/new” tab like on PS4. Less “energy ” needed to run Netflix for example also

      I need a PS5 to work. I can’t get past the plug in a USB cable screen even after several power cycles and controller resets on the back pinhole. Yeah. WIll have a fun time talking to SONY. I wonder if it can be fixed with a new update or if I have to return the system to SONY.

      THIS! And the option to get rid of those annoying messages like “broadcasting stopped or resumed” or “game help is available”. I have my notifications specifically set to only show trophies and downloads and yet these always pop up without the option to put them off. I also preferred the downloads/uploads button disappearing in the control center when nothing is downloading.

    Now to add to the “play has no limits”. Need to add VRR support to HDMI 1.4 amd 2.0 and to 1440p. Odd 1080 and 4K VRR works but not 1440. Also VRR to PS4 games on the PS5. I do love the 1440 support, massive step in the right direction just needs some more features to be perfect.

    Yeah all well and good until the “more easily access in-progress Activities” shoves blue pop ups in your face every time you pass over games and videos saying “Here you’ll find recommended games Activities for access.” Ect ect you get the idea, with no option to turn them off. I’ve uninstalled two games because of how annoying these “improvements” are. Quit adding garbage features that we can’t turn off.

    When are we going to be able to have our party chat audio come through the TV/home theater speakers when using the controller as a mic? My father joins a party with me every weekend and we miss having the whole family be able to hear him. Also, chat sucks through the controller speaker.

    I pressed the turn off your system and update option. Now I get the plug in your USB cable to update your controller infinite screen. Reset the controller with the pin hole on the back. Nada. Held the power button down to force reset. Nada. Yup. Update messed with my system. Joy. Phoning SONY tomorrow. Hope they can push another fix to the update in a week. Maybe they just have to have me send the system back. Joy since the system is only 1 year old.

    I really hate to complain, but it’s very stupid and lazy that I can’t even sort my Game Lists. It’s just automatically the most recent I made will towards the left. Why can’t I sort them alphabetically? Same with the games inside the list. No sorting? The PS4’s folder system was so much better. How did we backtrack?
    The only thing these do better is that you can put the same game onto multiple lists. I don’t think the PS4 folders could do that. But that’s not enough.
    Not being able to sort the lists or have them on the dashboard was a terrible idea.

    This update prove what we already know. Every employer who was involved in making ps5 UI should be fired. Today we got another,brand new proof! You create THE most wanted function for ps5 (being able to add games into folders) and You do what? No thumbnail can be moved inside the Gamelist, also positions of a Gamelists can not be changed. So,i assume i need pencil and paper to make a drawing how all should look like and then starts working on it? About mentioning “internet browser” that we can use zoom now,is irrelative since we do not have internet browser on ps5 (but hey, we have settings for it ). No old decision was change ,such as MIC ON led off (?!) in what Universe do you exist?!

    Since the update my Beloader remote play won’t work?? Working fine before update, green and blue flashing light, seems others have this issue as well. Update included changes to remote play.

    I can’t believe this Sony. It only allows you to create these “folders” from the “your collection”! OH MY GOD.

    WHY NOT included the SAME thing in “installed games” and/or open an option in the installed ones? ITS SO dumb. I have over 100 games in the account where I buy most games, and I just can’t organize them in the account where I play.

    Oh my dog. Just copy and paste this useful option to INSTALLED GAMES, PLZ IM BEGGING I’m begging. I’ve been waiting since DAY ONE to clean up this mess.

    System software keeps getting nice upgrades. but i have a simple request, that so far has not progressed.
    Please allow for videos to be stored on external disk. the PS5 internal disk space is precious, and videos can easily build into hundreds of gigabytes. I’m forced to either remove the videos from the Playstation or delete them, even though i have a 6TB external drive.

    Surely if you can move games to external storage you can AT LEAST move them after they have been captured ? The database can still index them internally for faster location.

    Thanks a bunch for azmzing features! I would love to see VRR support for HDMI 2.0 and 1440p (Currently using Gigabyte G27Q) which has G-sync but PS5 doesn’t support it.
