Welcoming Savage Game Studios + Expanding Our Community

Hello, PlayStation nation.

Today, we announced that we have entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Savage Game Studios, a hugely talented team of creatives with many years of experience making some of the most popular mobile games enjoyed by players around the world. They were founded a few years ago with the goal of fearlessly exploring bold new ideas. We share their tireless ambition to innovate, along with a continued drive to expand our audience and bring PlayStation to more people than ever before, making them a perfect fit to join PlayStation Studios.

I’ll turn it over to Michail Katkoff, CEO and Co-founder of Savage Game Studios, for proper introductions:

Thanks, Hermen, and hello everyone in the PlayStation community!

Established in 2020 and led by myself and fellow Co-founders Nadjim Adjir and Michael McManus, Savage Game Studios was born of our many years of mobile game development experience spanning a number of massively successful global IP. Our guiding vision was a creative space where experimentation and taking risks weren’t warily avoided, but rather eagerly embraced. We’ve all worked at big studios and while we respect the advantages of ample resources, we wanted to stay small and nimble so we could call our own shots.

“So why then,” you may be thinking to yourself, “would you join PlayStation Studios?” We made this deal because we believe that PlayStation Studios’ leadership respects our vision for how we can best operate and succeed, and because they too are not afraid to take chances. All of that, plus the ability to potentially tap into PlayStation’s amazing catalog of IP and the fact that we will benefit from the kind of support that only they can provide… The harder question to answer would be “why not?”

On behalf of everybody at Savage Game Studios, thank you for having us. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on!

As we assured you before with our plans to bring select titles to PC, our efforts beyond console in no way diminish our commitment to the PlayStation community, nor our passion to keep making amazing single-player, narrative-driven experiences. It’s been a tremendous year for games on PS5 and PS4, with huge releases including Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, MLB The Show 22, and on November 9th, the highly anticipated God of War: Ragnarök. PlayStation VR2 is also on the horizon, and promises a huge leap forward in presence and immersion, bolstered by best-in-class software like Horizon: Call of the Mountain. We’re proud of our releases on PC as well, with Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and the upcoming Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection giving gamers without PlayStation hardware a taste of our amazing library of first-party titles.

Our mobile gaming efforts will be similarly additive, providing more ways for more people to engage with our content, and striving to reach new audiences unfamiliar with PlayStation and our games. Savage Game Studios is joining a newly created PlayStation Studios Mobile Division, which will operate independently from our console development and focus on innovative, on-the-go experiences based on new and existing PlayStation IP.

I hope you’ll join me in welcoming Savage Game Studios into the fold, and that those of you who enjoy mobile gaming in addition to console or PC will look forward to what they have in store. They’re already working on a new unannounced AAA mobile live service action game. It’s too early to reveal more, but I’m so excited for when they’ll be able to.

Wishing good health and happiness to you and your loved ones!

  • How about some exclusives for your ACTUAL customers instead of this PC/Mobile blue ocean?

I really wish I could take these assurances on face value, but actions speak louder than words Hermann Hulst. 🤔

Using PS Plus Deluxe as an example,we’ve seen ZERO additional psp/ps1/ps2 games added to the promised “classic games library” in the last two plus months. Sony has maintained silence on the blog & twitter on the issue. We don’t even know how big a in-house team is overseeing efforts as there’s no communication of eg: what games would you like to see?” etc.

But we’ve heard any amount of talk about multiplayer focused game studios, etc.
We see a $125 (in my region),ps5 remaster of TLOU,versus the PS4 version or ps4 Ratchet & Clank,Medievil etc.,being at a range of price points last gen.
Instead of the Jak & Daxter ps2 classic games getting some polish,we got the same emulated version released on ps4.

    Where’s adaptions of the ps2 Ratchet & Clank,Sly Raccoon,God of War etc.,if you’re “commited” to single player games & IP’s? Where’s ps4/5 versions of LBP 1 & 2?🤔

Instead of mobile mtx versions of classic IP’s,how about some commitment to making the very same single player IP’s playable on modern PS platforms?
Actions speak louder than words Mr Hulst.

  • Pretty sure that you guys have tried this before… It didn’t work. Good luck to Savage studios. They’re going to need it.

  • Boooooo!!! Jim Ryan continues to destroy the Playstation name – he’s a plague to console gamers

  • PS4 PRO owner here. I am glad I did say to PlayStation 5, Good Riddance!

  • Hey @sony @playstation here’s an idea that would make an instant classic, it would be a Microsoft 3d movie maker like program for game consoles like PS5, but with the unreal engine 5.

With about 350 different built in actors/characters, A vast variety of vehicle models (including thousands of cars, trucks, heavy duty vehicles bikes, which are fully interactive with the environment), and thousand of props, and ability to customize or create characters (take wwe 2k22s CAW suit as a benchmark for the character/actor creation, with thousands of customizable clothing, attire, hair, and customizable body type/ built of the created characters

Thousands of built in locations with thousands of different built in scenes based on different cities, like downtown Chicago, Paris,London, Washington,Dublin, New York, Las Vegas, Miami,Mexico City, Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong, Milan, Sydney, or beaches in Los Angeles,Mali, The Caribbean or some Mansions in Bel-Air or Beverly Hills, Ancient Palaces Wall Street, tons of landmarks from around the globe, The Mexican border rain forests, The Flavelas of Brazil, Gran canyons, suburban areas, farms, waterfalls, caves, and natural landmarks, oceans, seas, boats, planes, space, spaceships, & other planets etc, with many different camera angles and also user controlled camera angles

Also the ability to design scenes and locations, and upload them along with the created characters, images and props to community creations for others to download.

With optional downloadable packages that people could pay for like more scenes, actors, props, special car models special motion or actions that the actors and props can perform.

It could have built in lines, from voice actors, and the option to record lines dialogue, and sound effects in movies. Props and vehicle models, etc would have their built in sound effects. And also community creations where the community can view each other’s films or contribute to the same project.

It would be a world where you can decide the number of extras (like if the scene is taking place in a busy city there would have an option to have busy heavy traffic with 100s of extras walking up and down the street), weather, day time, and could create explosions, special effects etc disasters.

The environment and buildings would be completely interactive so doors can be open or knocked down, or a window can be broken, a character can throughstuff through a window. Buildings can catch a fire and burn,or even explode or collapse water can out the fire,e

I think this would be a big hit, It would definitely revolutionize video gaming/content creating for social media. I have more insight on the project just contact me if anyone wants to dialogue about it .

    • Imagine what it would do for content creators on social media. It would be much easier than using unreal engine to make a video game, but it would have beautiful realistic graphics. And it could have a grande theatre mode. I said 3d movie maker “like” But way better. With face capture in create a character it would be a perfect movie maker tool. Only for PS5. Just a concept though. Tell me what u think

    • Please make this game.

  • I tend to believe that “AAA mobile” is an oxymoron.

  • “Savage”. The name of this studio fits Sony PlayStation’s and SIE’s brand identity and anti-consumer philosophies just PERFECTLY. Well done.

  • I regret investing in a PS5. All I see here is PC cloud etc like Microsoft. PS5 is my last console hardware from Sony. Goodbye.

  • This was the last thing I wanted to see 🙈

  • Sorry but I have zero interest in a mobile phone game but wish you all the best. Also no interest in VR2, my VR1 gathers dust while my ps vita is played with on a weekly basis. If only I could get my steam deck to run my PS5 through remote play that would be awesome

  • Make mobile games with trophy support and MAYBE will consider

  • Congratulations on joining! I hope we hear some news on your titles soon!

And no disrespect meant to Savage Game by adding this, but Sony, please invest back into Japanese games.
Pull out of California, the people there do not know what gamers want. They are actively killing the brand for their own purposes. They do not love games or Playstation. They love pushing agendas into western titles and censoring/stifling Japanese titles.
Start signing on Japanese studios and BRING BACK SONY JAPAN STUDIOS…and get back to your Japanese roots.

  • @Princegroove

YES I read the article, did you?!? It matter 0 who devs the devs are. My point is they have ZERO games under their belt. BIG FAT ZERO. So purchase wise Sony isn’t showing MS they have any teeth…. 😂😂

  • Stopped caring about PS5 for some time now it’s been a poor investment it’s just a more powerful PS4 literally though maybe they would start announcing some games for it in September but no they just leave it dry until god of war which I knew was coming back when I got the thing 2 years back.Worst investment in my life no support at all even a web browser has been added instead they are too busy bringing all the games to PC and focusing on mobile and TV which nobody cares about.PlayStation 5 is my last Sony console VR 2 will not be purchased they don’t support their products if you haven’t got PS5 yet do yourself a favour and forget about getting one there’s nothing on it anyhow

  • @Princegroove

My profile is public go and have a look 😂😂 i go where the games are. And you can’t beat a good new game day and date. Game Pass is incredible value for money. Whats more is Friends and family is coming. You stick to paying twice for old games!
