PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now come together; players can choose from three flexible options.

  • Asia markets (excluding Japan) – targeting May 23, 2022 (May 24, 2022 in local time zone)
  • Japan – targeting June 1, 2022 (June 2, 2022 in local time zone)
  • Americas – targeting June 13, 2022
  • Europe, Australia, New Zealand – targeting June 22, 2022 (June 23, 2022 in local time zone)

Additionally, we’re also expanding our cloud streaming access to the following locations for a total of 30 markets with cloud streaming access**. The following markets will also offer the Premium tier from PlayStation Plus at launch: Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

We’ve been working on this massive global effort to provide flexible options, quality games and greater value for our members for quite some time now – and we’re just a few weeks away from our first regional rollout. We want to thank our PlayStation community for the ongoing support, and we’ll have more to share as we get closer to launch. Since launching PlayStation Plus in 2010, SIE has been at the forefront of innovation with game subscription services. We were thrilled to be the first console membership service that included a refreshed library of games through PlayStation Plus, and also launched the first console game streaming service with PlayStation Now.

Today, we are pleased to share with you official news about changes coming to our subscription services. This June, we’re bringing together PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now in an all-new PlayStation Plus subscription service that provides more choice to customers across three membership tiers globally.

  • PlayStation Plus Deluxe (Select Markets) For markets without cloud streaming, PlayStation Plus Deluxe will be offered at a lower price compared to Premium, and includes a catalog of beloved classic games from the original PlayStation, PS2 and PSP generations to download and play, along with time-limited game trials. Benefits from Essential and Extra tiers are also included. Local pricing will vary by market.

The new Extra and Premium tiers represent a major evolution for PlayStation Plus. With these tiers, our key focus is to ensure that the hundreds of games we offer will include the best quality content that sets us apart. At launch, we plan to include titles such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal. We’re working closely with our imaginative developers from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners to include some of the best gaming experiences available with a library that will be regularly refreshed. More details to come on the games we’ll have on our new PlayStation Plus service.

When the new PlayStation Plus service launches, PlayStation Now will transition into the new PlayStation Plus offering and will no longer be available as a standalone service. PlayStation Now customers will migrate over to PlayStation Plus Premium with no increase to their current subscription fees at launch.

As this is a massive launch effort, we’re rolling out the new PlayStation Plus offering in a phased regional approach. In the June timeframe, we’ll begin with an initial launch in several markets in Asia, followed by North America, Europe and the rest of the world where PlayStation Plus is offered. We aim to have most PlayStation Network territories live with our new PlayStation Plus game subscription service by the end of the first half of 2022. We also plan to expand our cloud streaming benefit to additional markets, and will provide more details at a later date.

Building upon more than 25 years of expertise in gaming innovation, this change to our subscription services highlights our continued efforts to evolve our network services business to match our customer’s preferences. With the all-new PlayStation Plus, we’re focused on delivering a compelling game subscription service with curated content from our exclusive PlayStation Studios team and our third-party partners. The newly enhanced PlayStation Plus will enable our fans to discover and engage with more content than ever before, and deepen their connection with the PlayStation community through shared experiences.

We’re providing an early look at our new PlayStation Plus subscription service today, and we’ll plan to share more information with you as we get closer to launch. Stay tuned.

*Local pricing may vary by market. PlayStation Plus catalog titles may also vary by market and tier, and may change over time. • I am extremely disappointed not to include backwards compatibility with PS3 even if it is software. You disappoint me more and more Sony.

  • Sounds great! Looking forward to see the full list of games. I’d like to know the details of how the time limited trials work and what games are going to be included there.

  • I’ll stick with the Essential tier as I really have no interest in streaming services, I barely get chance to play the games that come with PSPlus. However, it is really nice to see you’ve continued to discount quarterly and annual subs. I think this should be standard on all streaming subs, why should someone who binges content on a adhoc payg basis pay the same as a long time continuous customer…

But speaking of annual subs, what if you already have one at a lower tier, can you pay the difference to upgrade it or do you just lose it if you replace it with another one? 🤔

    • This is what I want to know as well. I have plus paid for for the next two years and can I just pay the extra $5 a month for the next tier up or am I stuck at the first tier for the next two years? If the latter rather than the former then I might have to request a full refund.

    • The base service is a ripoff though, so….

  • Also you’re removing the game trials from PS Plus and moving it to the most expensive tier as well.

  • Will the downloadable PS One games be playable on a Vita? That’s would probably sway me!

  • I remember getting Six PS+ games per month.

Only 2 is a serious decrease in value. That is a significant change here

  • Wished for a service without online play option but access to monthly plus free games and other free games :-\

  • Looks good to me. I know this isn’t going to please everyone, but I think at the end of the day this is the way to go.

Not to be mean, but people clinging onto the PS3 have to let it go. We need to accept that the machine is so unique that it is simply incompatible with current/future generations. Your official digital library starts from the PS4. Hopefully one day PlayStation can at least bring their first party stuff to current gen (InFamous, Killzone, Little Big Planet, etc.).

My heart goes out to the people asking about Vita games (I also find the absence odd), but let’s be honest: how many Vita games are worth bringing over at this point? 4? 5? The Vita got dealt a bad hand, but whatever is there is probably locked there :(

I need to see the library of games on both tiers first, but I’m at least willing to try out Premium for a month or two. Good job PlayStation!

    • I think you’re so incorrect. PS3 Emulation is doing fantastic on PC. Playstation/Sony have the resources to make their own emulator and even much better optimized for PS5.

    • @zora-s, “fantastic”, yes, but far from “accurate”. I saw some videos of Red Dead Redemption and some things were just plain wrong. I can’t tell what it was exactly.

  • What if you redeem a PS now 12 month card right now or before June? Will that be converted to Premium?

    • This is what I was thinking. Seems like it would be a good way to save.

    • Good luck with that. They’ve been removing them from sale for months now, and they’ve removed all options to buy more than a month of Now online.

Resellers would be the only way to get Now codes and they would already be either run out, or increased in price

  • Correct me if i’m wrong, but what i’m reading here is that the Playstation Plus catalog of games (that small group of free games you get to play) is being moved out of the base tier and into the middle tier. Also, there will be no PS5 streaming.

I was really excited for this announcement, as were many. However, I feel like it’s just short of being a game changer. I feel with the reduction of features for the base plan, namely the catalog of games to play, you could have at least lowered the price a bit more.

    • No, the base tier (essential they call it) still has the two monthly games, otherwise it would obviously have to be lowered in price. I feel it’s essential we get a cheaper tier for online access without any PS+ involvement at all.

    • My bad, it seems they’re dropping one game, going from 3 to 2. Guess they figured that didn’t necessitate a price drop, since they already went from 6 games to 3 before…

  • Will I be able to play the Simpsons hit and run with premium?

  • Okay so they’re showing it’s possible to have PS1 and PS2 games back as downloadables. How about you sell the games instead of keeping them locked behind Plus. Better yet how about if we previously purchased the Classic games on the PS3 then we can redownload them on the PS5. Also streaming PS3 is a no from me. I tried it with Now and there’s no point if I still have my original copies which is why physical backwards compatibility would of been much better. And why even have games that already remastered like Last of Us and PS3 versions of games that have PS4 versions. That was the problem with Now.

    • Do we actually know if the classic games aren’t just for sale for non Premium members? I’d wait and see. I can’t imagine they’d pass up an opportunity to make even more money off of something they can easily throw onto the PSN store.

    • I agree with Steel_Squirrel. They should make them available for a fee, and people might subscribe to Tier 2 or 3 anyway. 😅

  • Sony good job add allm mode I have a sony x85j for ps5 but ps5 still needs to get 1440p & vrr Jim ryan these 2 are important & the devs should drop vrr on update on any ps5 games from launch because just have vrr on settings on ps5 won’t work unless game support it & you if turn it on by force on ps5 could course screen tearing

  • Nice to see PS1, PS2 and PSP games will be downloadable however, you need to make PS3 games downloadable too!

  • Provides the //same benefits// that PlayStation Plus members are getting today, such as:
    //Two// monthly downloadable games

Sony, is it the same benefits or are you lying and decreasing the amount of monthly games?

  • Still no love for families? My kids can transfer their saves between Xboxs but their saves are still trapped on the PS4 unless I buy them their own PlayStation Plus memberships? It’s a shame they can’t play on the PS5 since they can’t access their saves. This one feature alone, tied to your Extra tier, would have boosted sales immensely.

  • I’m glad and surprised for the new upcoming changes in the PlayStation Plus Subscription service but It would be much better for the company and for the users that the subscription services should be at a bit lower price like Xbox Gamepass. Moreover, the games that PS Plus members will experience should be 10$ cheap on the PS Store.

  • Hey Playstation, I have an idea why don’t you care about your consumers and give all tiers for $9.99 because of the non releases of ps5 games, all the bigs at lauch of ps5, shotages of ps5 and then your combining ps plus with playstion now old games, and trying to make us pay for it, get rid of the ps4 make ps5 backwards compatible and stop being scammy.

  • Australia gets the short stick again no premium but deluxe. Hopefully as mentioned the streaming services come sooner than later, been waiting almost 10 years for PlayStation Now to come down under.

    • Don’t know if you’ve had the opportunity to play a streamed game in a different country or what ever but its terrible, I’ve got fast broadband and it’s still bad even in the house next to the router

  • I wonder, how till this be solved for people who have both? I have PS Plus until 11.2023 and PS Now until 02.2024. How will this stack up?

  • My PS Plus doesn’t expire till Aug 2027, how does effect me? Do I pay the difference for PS Plus Extra?

  • If we already bought previous psone, ps2, and ps3 games on the PlayStation store will we still need to subscribe to the new ps plus service to download and play the games? Thanks in advance

    • They won’t answer your question. They never do

    • thats what i want to know and the answers from my perspective seems to be they are not allowing us to redownload games weve purchased but just adding certain games to be streamable on your ps5 as long as you subscribe and that to me is terrible.

  • How is Playstation Plus Premium any different then what you currently offer right now exactly? Its the same price as if you subscribe to them individually.

  • So they just merged PS+ with PS Now? Wheres the benefits?

  • Will it offer brand new games on day of the games release as well?

    • Thats what i want to no if were getting day one relises like the game pass as if not ill stick with the essential pack

  • This is a downgrade for sure and a terrible deal.
PSPlus at the moment has 3 games -> PlayStation Plus Essential will have only 2 games.
I want to cancel my current subscription as it devaluates!

PlayStation Plus Extra and Essential are PSnow divided into 2 separate services as PSnow had both downloadable and streaming services.
The number of games isn’t the problem, PSnow had a ton of games but streaming was bad and 95% of the games are shovelware. No mentioning of day one exclusives is an additional problem for all that cost.

Remember Plus on PS3? That was an amazing service, this is not.

  • Will all of the PS1/PS2/PSP games I purchased on PS3 be in this catalog of games?

Or will this be a sad selection of weirdly curated games that nobody asked for and with poor to no support for extra scaling/filtering emulation options? Will these games be upscaled to 4K or will they be ugly low res, no effort ISOs?

I’m cautiously optimistic after the way things have been handled for the past couple of generations…

  • unless sony gives me access to all of my ps3 backlog including purchased classics ps1 and ps2 on my ps5 this entire debacle seems pointless and is just them putting every previous purchase older fans have done under a subscription to resell it to us and thats just a terrible deal from my perspective.

  • Really need to offer this on mobile devices.

  • So what i’m understanding by this. Playstation Now Subs will get Plus Premium at no Increased price at Launch, but for how long would there not be any Increase on that ?
Are we talking about June or end of the Year or for how long?

  • So, having purchased a lot of digital content in the past, on the PSN accounts to nothing, since nothing can be played on the PS5.
Now hiding all these old content behind an additional Paywal that costs 216$ a year, and no true backwards compatibility on the console is a joke.

    “For the players”
    Yeah right

  • Also once again Phil Spencer shows us why Jim Ryan is worst. How could you **** it up this bad?

  • The PS Extra sounds good, but game pass has 200+ games and it just costs £10 a month.
Also why cloud?? You could of went the download route. Make an emulator for PS1, PS2, PSP and PS3. Just do what nintendo and xbox do which is updating the emulator with new games each month or so.

PS5 is more than capable with PS3 Emulation.

Cloud is the reason why ps now died, you’re just wasting money and resources on cloud.
I do really love the idea, but i think you guys are rushing it to hop on the Xbox Game Pass hypetrain.

  • I have PSN Plus since 2010 and will not renew if this happens. A bad service with no support and poor content being more expensive? Did you Sony noted Amazon and Netflix doing service for streaming games, Microsoft with Gamepass and Apple joining the war with some new stuff? PLAYSTATION brand does not deserve this fate and neither its players! Playstation was #4thePlayers, now it is #4theMoney

  • So I have my membership paid for the next 3 years. Do I have an option to upgrade to a higher tier? Do we get any kind of trip period for the highest tier? Try out what it will be like?

  • Why not provide cloud gaming services to all members?

  • So it mean we don’t need buy games anymore? We can access to all store games without pay any money?

  • I really need to see the games list before I consider upgrading.

  • Thanks for not adding downloadable PS3 games 🙃

  • All ready pay for ps now and plus… but to be honest if i could mix and match still would go with game pass but on the ps5… dosnt look good this new ps plus at all

  • You need give me option Buy ps1 and ps2 and psp on Psn Store this is so Important Like with ps3 store and Add a lot of games ps1 and ps2 and psp on Psn Store

  • Honestly this is trash. Xbox offers something between the 2 top tiers for much less. Backwards compatibility should have been the focus in my opinion as most of us PlayStation fans still hold on to our catalog of older games and having to look at those games on the shelf and still have to pay for these tiers to play them virtually is a slap in the face. Very greedy but I guess I had already foreseen this coming since the PS3 subscriptions. Sucks I will eventually have to ditch gaming on PlayStation all together.

  • I just wanna play bo2 on my ps5 already. Playing old cod’s brings back so much nostalgia and good memories created

  • Can PS1, PS2 and PSP games be bought seperately from the subscription?

  • Sounds awesome!

Question though: I have 11 month of ps plus left and 3 month ps now. What are my options? I would like the premium.

    Thanks

  • Classic and previous gen games are fine and all BUT SORRY!! This is utter Trash! Xbox Gamepass provides Day 1 release downloads of their “next” generation games. This is why gamepass is so appealing. People want to play NEW games and not a “Trial” that’s garbage. The ideal PS Plus service would be a classic PlayStation Library, indies WITH!! The ability to get Day 1 exclusive and third party releases of “next” generation games, you do that and it’s an instant winner. But! once again Microsoft leads the way with their online services and Sony has to catch up because their vision is skewed. It’s sad. In closing HOLD THIS L, not worth the purchase.

  • Can I just buy the ps1, 2 and psp game À la carte? As I do not care for these premium Netflix style subscriptions and you will easly get way more money out of me if you can.

  • The only question is if i have PS+ for a year already can i get upgrade to premium for the difference?
Other than that it’s looking pretty good right now. Also have to see the library of course.

  • I’m soooo excited for this. We don’t have PS Now in Romania so I’m very happy to finally play come classic games on here. Since we don’t have streaming here, we probably won’t have PS3 streaming either, but I personally don’t care about that since I already have all the PS3 games I wanted to play as PS4 remasters. I assume that Romania will get the Plus Deluxe subscription model since we use our own currency in the store and we don’t have streaming. So a lower price for that will also be a great thing. I cannot wait for June. I’m BEYOND excited. 😁✌🏻

  • Are you going to let other users of the same household backup their saves to the cloud or are you expecting them to get their own PS plus account? Since there is still no usb backup on PS5 this seems like a scummy thing to not allow.
