UPDATE: All-new PlayStation Plus launches in June with 700+ games and more value than ever

PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now come together; players can choose from three flexible options.

Update: We’re making fantastic progress with our launch efforts and I wanted to update you on the latest. We’re rolling out our new offering for PlayStation Plus a little earlier in select markets in Asia, followed by Japan. Here is a look at our updated regional rollout schedule.

  • Asia markets (excluding Japan) – targeting May 23, 2022 (May 24, 2022 in local time zone)
  • Japan – targeting June 1, 2022 (June 2, 2022 in local time zone)
  • Americas – targeting June 13, 2022
  • Europe, Australia, New Zealand – targeting June 22, 2022 (June 23, 2022 in local time zone)

Additionally, we’re also expanding our cloud streaming access to the following locations for a total of 30 markets with cloud streaming access**. The following markets will also offer the Premium tier from PlayStation Plus at launch: Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

We’ve been working on this massive global effort to provide flexible options, quality games and greater value for our members for quite some time now – and we’re just a few weeks away from our first regional rollout. We want to thank our PlayStation community for the ongoing support, and we’ll have more to share as we get closer to launch. Since launching PlayStation Plus in 2010, SIE has been at the forefront of innovation with game subscription services. We were thrilled to be the first console membership service that included a refreshed library of games through PlayStation Plus, and also launched the first console game streaming service with PlayStation Now.

Today, we are pleased to share with you official news about changes coming to our subscription services. This June, we’re bringing together PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now in an all-new PlayStation Plus subscription service that provides more choice to customers across three membership tiers globally.

Benefits from Essential and Extra tiers are also included. Local pricing will vary by market.

The new Extra and Premium tiers represent a major evolution for PlayStation Plus. With these tiers, our key focus is to ensure that the hundreds of games we offer will include the best quality content that sets us apart. At launch, we plan to include titles such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal. We’re working closely with our imaginative developers from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners to include some of the best gaming experiences available with a library that will be regularly refreshed. More details to come on the games we’ll have on our new PlayStation Plus service.

When the new PlayStation Plus service launches, PlayStation Now will transition into the new PlayStation Plus offering and will no longer be available as a standalone service. PlayStation Now customers will migrate over to PlayStation Plus Premium with no increase to their current subscription fees at launch.

As this is a massive launch effort, we’re rolling out the new PlayStation Plus offering in a phased regional approach. In the June timeframe, we’ll begin with an initial launch in several markets in Asia, followed by North America, Europe and the rest of the world where PlayStation Plus is offered. We aim to have most PlayStation Network territories live with our new PlayStation Plus game subscription service by the end of the first half of 2022. We also plan to expand our cloud streaming benefit to additional markets, and will provide more details at a later date.

Building upon more than 25 years of expertise in gaming innovation, this change to our subscription services highlights our continued efforts to evolve our network services business to match our customer’s preferences. With the all-new PlayStation Plus, we’re focused on delivering a compelling game subscription service with curated content from our exclusive PlayStation Studios team and our third-party partners. The newly enhanced PlayStation Plus will enable our fans to discover and engage with more content than ever before, and deepen their connection with the PlayStation community through shared experiences.

We’re providing an early look at our new PlayStation Plus subscription service today, and we’ll plan to share more information with you as we get closer to launch. Stay tuned.

*Local pricing may vary by market. PlayStation Plus catalog titles may also vary by market and tier, and may change over time. • Definitely wanting to see how the pricing works out for Australia and New Zealand on the new Tier system since we don’t get all them available to us which LITERALLY makes no sense what so ever. Got that daunting feeling it’s going to be quite a fair bit more expensive. Which I’m also hoping there’s a lot more PS5 titles/Versions available with this system for that extra cost.

Would’ve been nice to see Sony give the opportunity to make a change to region on your account.

Someone having moved country and probably many others out there..It’s pretty damn annoying.

And yes, I’ve got an alternative account in the country I was from but it doesn’t solve any issues at all.

Games I pre-order end up being unable to use the bonuses and or seasonal passes on my main account.

Which another problem arises, being that I and many other are having to find ways of purchasing PS Plus membership/PS Store credit online we end up over-paying on the exact same product as you would via a pre-paid card or through the store itself.

  • this is nice to see honestly, but we need backwards compatibility with at least playstation and playstation 2 games. you should be able to pop in a disc for a game that you bought and paid for and play it without any hassle or other fees

    • The cost and BC is not worth it, and only a small percentage of gamers care about old games. Its like 5% or less…That is only for the very select hardcore. Note ps4 had zero BC and that consoles was one of the most successful in history with nearly 120mill sold

  • I like the combining of PS Plus and PS Now. I do think though that the naming is a bit much and convoluted . Could just be PS plus, PS extra and PS premium instead of having “plus” in all tiers. Or remove the word plus and just have the symbol “+” instead.

  • people already got ps plus for the year should have a massive discount to upgrade

  • to that person on here who said they got ps plus till 2030 – no showing off because i got ps plus till 2090 !!!!

  • Yea…That’s All Cool And Awesome News BUT Sony Is Missing One BIG Feature That Would Have Help Put Above And Beyond You Guys Forgot To Make The Customer Playstation Plus Accounts Mobile Compatibility I Didn’t Read Anything Saying It’s Going To Be On Android Or Apple Pls Make That Compatibility To Our Phones Then It’s A Win For The Company That Way We All Can Play Our Games On The Go…

  • How much in Canada

  • Ooh can DOOM be agusts ps plus game?

  • i’m exited to try out the “deluxe version” for australia on my ps4….still waiting for ps5 pricedrop untill i pick one up. never paid over 700aud on a playstation 2,3,4 allways got them later in a generation when more affordable. here’s hoping i wont have to wait till ps6 comes out to get my hands on an affordable ps5. i got a feeling this service will take off like gamepass and nintendo expansion pass. as a user of both i am deff looking forward to Sony’s version kudos for finally doing it.

  • Question:
What will happen if l buy play station now for 3 monts, will l get get play station premium for free

    Thanks

  • Good job thanks for your hard work.

  • Hmm, 2 questions from me.

    1) “There are no changes for existing PlayStation Plus members in this tier” is your claim, currently we get 3 games per month, 2 ps4 and 1 ps5, how is this same as
“Two monthly downloadable games” in the new ps+ ?

    2) About your pricing,
PlayStation Plus Essential, PlayStation Plus Extra, PlayStation Plus Premium in order,
Per month is 10$, 15$ (50% increase from base), 18$ (80% increase from base),
but yearly is 60$, 100$ (66% increase from base), 120$(100% increase from base)

  • One thing I find really disappointing from Sony is that I need to stream PS3 games from their server still? That is utterly ridiculous. Yet again relying on the players to have a perfect Internet connection. Why can’t you go the Nintendo route and accept that there have been developers out there that have created amazing emulators, and bring that to the system? The PS5’s hardware would be more than capable. I don’t want to play my classic games with bitrate bottlenecks and lag.

  • So now that you have these games on PS+ and PSP+, I assume you’ll parse our catalogs and let us download or upgrade our PS1 classics? Maybe even allow us to buy PS1,2,P titles for purchase off the store. I honestly do not care about your Nintendo Online like services. When I’m in the mood to play a PS1 game I don’t want to have to jump into a subscription screen every time I want to reactivate the service and give my permission. I just want the damn thing to be there and not worry about being trapped in some payment cycle. It would also be nice to be able to hook up a CD-ROM drive to PS4/5 and play the discs we have. Any off the shelf will work here. Enable PS2 DVD titles to work on PS4/5. PSP I’ll give you a pass on, but if you feel like it, allowing for PSP validation of UMDs through a hooked up unit would be nice too.

I think the subscriptions are brilliant. However the service is not for me, the product is. I’m willing to pay for it. Hell if it works well enough, I might even do both. I’m not looking to be shackled. That’s all this does. I don’t like looking at my credit card statement at the end of the month and seeing 12 subscriptions I didn’t use that month because one dominated my time or one was neglected. It’s annoying to see netflix on my bill for 6 months unused. So I turn it off. Money I save goes to buy Blurays and UHDDs, with I can stream over my network to my PS5 and other devices.

  • Will Spider-Man only be available during the launch period (first month) or as permanently included title?

  • just got ps now till july and i got ps plus for a year so it BETTER carry over to premium in june reguardless 3 months or more and i didnt see anything that said it cant be done

  • It’s cool PS is doing this, but they are really late to the party in comparison to XBOX Game Pass

  • Here is what I would like to know.

Say you have PS Plus until 2028 and you have PS Now until 2024. What happens then?

Hopefully no matter what you still get one of the services until 2028, if its the lowest after 2024, how much to upgrade? $1 like xbox?

  • I love this idea and will be much simpler having both on one platform.

  • No Vita Support?

  • Hola nos gustaría tener PlayStation Now en Latino América, lo tienen contemplado o nos dejan fuera de ese paquete.

Sería un gusto tener la oportunidad de tenerla en México.

  • This, as much as I wish it was a good idea. Is in fact a terrible idea for Sony.

You’re losing so much Interest from your community since adding tax to the store, lack of new consoles, and lack of content for the new console. Literally the ps5 is a hyper fast ps4 that actually isn’t faster because you’re still in the ps4 community.

Nobody cares about retro games enough to make this profitable. Offering demos and trials means less than it ever has. It’s easy enough to SharePlay, watch twitch or YouTube, and get a feel for your game.

Not only will I not have interest in this new tiered subscription service. But the more I lean towards PC/Xbox gaming because the ps5 has been a massive content let down, most new games are retro styled nonsense, sales are almost always a let down and already looted with retro games more than anything else. You make games like cyberpunk offer a refund on their near miss of a release, but allow companies like EA sports to charge full price year after year for copy pasted garbage cash grabs.

Terrible experience these last few years of psn. It’s really too bad because I’ve been a PlayStation guy since day one.

    • Same. I usually love the PS exclusives but PS5 has been somewhat of a disappointment so far, especially with the trend of free-to-play, massive amounts of loot boxes, season passes, battle passes, battle royales, utterly hideous indie games, shovelware, and honestly things that could be run on PS4 or even PS3&PS2 in many cases. Was seriously considering trying out Xbox after 25+ years of PS. Was expecting very big things from PS5. I have hundreds of games, literally the one thing I’ve considered next gen so far has been Returnal.

  • The xbox pass is still better than this PlayStation dont even bother trying to complete with the xbox pass because your Embarrassing yourself for no reason so please have some pride left and just leave it like it was because im embarrassed for and ill almost hate identify as a ps5 user since you failed to grasp the point of offering something that could complete with microsoft. Just because its $5 cheaper for ps now the xbox pass is still cheaper and offers what you place as premium plus so if you have a shred of pride left either follow what xbox offers everything for $15 or dont bother at all because now they know were your weakness in your company and that they can offer more content for way less so your not going to be able stck up to that lets be real.dont make yourself look like a joke please

  • Question for those like myself that pay for playstation now monthly will the price change to the PlayStation Plus Premium cost or will it say the same for the monthly PlayStation Now Plan

  • I recently bought a year worth of the ps plus so does players that already have the subscription when the new ps plus launch transfer to the new one?

  • when looking into this more i honestly think the best option is ps plus extra i mean it depends on the games that are in here i guess but yeah :)

  • I just want to be able to purchase a new Playstation 5 this year directly from Sony. 😭 please send the invite soo. 🙏

  • I really am hoping too see midnight club dub edition on there as one of the games for sure

  • romanianprince26

I’m planning to renew my ps plus membership. do I need to hold off until June, can I upgrade or if I get plus now is there a way to upgrade without paying the base price twice

  • terminxtor_rey42

    Bo2?

  • Interesting! However, it would be of more value if we had the choice to either purchase or download EVERY GAME offered. The main reason I never invested in PSNow is because I could not buy most of those classic games offered; I rather purchase and own those games instead of just renting them, because that is exactly what you are asking us to do. I even purchase the free PS Plus games when they go on sale, since I will lose access to them if I let my membership lapse. These new membership tiers are not QoL friendly at all, in my opinion.

I can imagine the customer service nightmare that will happen if someone has an issue with their membership if they want to move from one tier to another; for example, what would happen if you want to move from Premium to Extra? My guess is that you will lose access to a lot of those classic games, even though you downloaded them. I think Sony should take a last look and rework those “perks and benefits” so they actually “benefit” the players.

  • So my plus subscription doesn’t expire until next year, and cost more than the new ps plus essential. I guess Im just gonna take a loss. Thanks

  • Honestly I believe the true question of how valuable the service will be just comes right down to that list. We’ve seen with Nintendo and Microsoft that they will throw in most but not all their classic library and we’ve seen with the PlayStation Mini that Sony tends to be selective at best giving us some second, third and even fourth tier titles. Would we be seeing classics like Alundra and Croc? Could we see second or third tier titles like Evil Zone or more Battle Arena Toshinden? Would we even see the fourth tier Chaos Wars, everyone’s favorite strategy game? The list is what we need to make that final decision.

  • The upgrade to Premium (tier 3) from PS Now is great….for the handful of people that subscribed to the service. What about the PS plus subscribers, where is our upgrade? Why not do away with PS Plus Essential (tier 1) all together and move us to the Tier 2 plan? I hope there is a generous promotion current PS plus subscribers…..

Oh and online play pay wall could be done away with entirely since most of SIE’s profit comes from Add-ons.

  • Damn… it’s like that!!! Time to invest in XBox.. so much for being a loyal PlayStation fan/custy.. excited to see what Xbox has to offer… did the same thing when I got a PS3 < Xbox360 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • Lmao what a joke, how are you guys charging this much for emulation when your competitors have been doing a more compotent job.

  • What happens to the games I have downloaded on my PS4 from my PlayStation now subscription???? Do I lose all the downloaded games???????? 😐

  • Sounds pretty Epic!! But the pice is a bit steep! $85 would be sufficient! But nah, always got to hit you for that $100 bucks!!!!

  • Great news i hope i can play to the Silent Hill, Dead Space, Killzone 1-3, Fallout New Vegas and more.

  • So let’s say you get the PlayStation essential, but want to upgrade later on during the subscription. How would that affect pricing? For example if essential costs 59.99, and extra is 99.99, since I already have essential would I just have to pay $40 to upgrade?

  • Perhaps I missed something…. But to me it looks like those of us who are already paying for PS plus (but not PS Now) are getting no added benefit without paying more while those who just have a PS Now subscription (with no PS Plus) are getting a free upgrade to Extra.

If that’s the case it pisses me off a little. I feel all current subscribers should get a free upgrade to Extra for the rest of their contract and those who have both subscriptions should get a free upgrade to premium for the rest of their paid terms.

    That’s just my opinion.

  • Is there a upgrade option to the other tiers if U already have a year subscription to PlayStation Plus?

  • If you already have PS plus will it carry over? Probably will but can never be too safe.

  • Finally this is the upgrade that we were waiting for to be available but what about the current subscription with PS PLUS if I wanted to move into another tier of ps premium am I required to pay extra or could I have discount or deduction of total amount please answer this

  • Remember to keep asking for these classic games to be available for individual purchase on PSN as well!
