UPDATE: All-new PlayStation Plus launches in June with 700+ games and more value than ever

PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now come together; players can choose from three flexible options.

Update: We’re making fantastic progress with our launch efforts and I wanted to update you on the latest. We’re rolling out our new offering for PlayStation Plus a little earlier in select markets in Asia, followed by Japan. Here is a look at our updated regional rollout schedule.

  • Asia markets (excluding Japan) – targeting May 23, 2022 (May 24, 2022 in local time zone)
  • Japan – targeting June 1, 2022 (June 2, 2022 in local time zone)
  • Americas – targeting June 13, 2022
  • Europe, Australia, New Zealand – targeting June 22, 2022 (June 23, 2022 in local time zone)

Additionally, we’re also expanding our cloud streaming access to the following locations for a total of 30 markets with cloud streaming access**. The following markets will also offer the Premium tier from PlayStation Plus at launch: Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

We’ve been working on this massive global effort to provide flexible options, quality games and greater value for our members for quite some time now – and we’re just a few weeks away from our first regional rollout. We want to thank our PlayStation community for the ongoing support, and we’ll have more to share as we get closer to launch. Since launching PlayStation Plus in 2010, SIE has been at the forefront of innovation with game subscription services. We were thrilled to be the first console membership service that included a refreshed library of games through PlayStation Plus, and also launched the first console game streaming service with PlayStation Now.

Today, we are pleased to share with you official news about changes coming to our subscription services. This June, we’re bringing together PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now in an all-new PlayStation Plus subscription service that provides more choice to customers across three membership tiers globally.

Benefits from Essential and Extra tiers are also included. Local pricing will vary by market.

The new Extra and Premium tiers represent a major evolution for PlayStation Plus. With these tiers, our key focus is to ensure that the hundreds of games we offer will include the best quality content that sets us apart. At launch, we plan to include titles such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal. We’re working closely with our imaginative developers from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners to include some of the best gaming experiences available with a library that will be regularly refreshed. More details to come on the games we’ll have on our new PlayStation Plus service.

When the new PlayStation Plus service launches, PlayStation Now will transition into the new PlayStation Plus offering and will no longer be available as a standalone service. PlayStation Now customers will migrate over to PlayStation Plus Premium with no increase to their current subscription fees at launch.

As this is a massive launch effort, we’re rolling out the new PlayStation Plus offering in a phased regional approach. In the June timeframe, we’ll begin with an initial launch in several markets in Asia, followed by North America, Europe and the rest of the world where PlayStation Plus is offered. We aim to have most PlayStation Network territories live with our new PlayStation Plus game subscription service by the end of the first half of 2022. We also plan to expand our cloud streaming benefit to additional markets, and will provide more details at a later date.

Building upon more than 25 years of expertise in gaming innovation, this change to our subscription services highlights our continued efforts to evolve our network services business to match our customer’s preferences. With the all-new PlayStation Plus, we’re focused on delivering a compelling game subscription service with curated content from our exclusive PlayStation Studios team and our third-party partners. The newly enhanced PlayStation Plus will enable our fans to discover and engage with more content than ever before, and deepen their connection with the PlayStation community through shared experiences.

We’re providing an early look at our new PlayStation Plus subscription service today, and we’ll plan to share more information with you as we get closer to launch. Stay tuned.

*Local pricing may vary by market. PlayStation Plus catalog titles may also vary by market and tier, and may change over time. • This is ******** I already have PS now which already has God of war and Spider-Man and all that crap what you’re doing is up in my price to $17 and add in the crappy PS plus that I never used because it was a joke and now I’m forced to pay more for what I already have for $10 a month and you’re throwing the crappy PS now on to my stuff and saying that I have to pay more needs to be the other way around

  • This is horrible, I have paid for ps now for years and Now the 10 a month is getting swapped to ps plus that I never liked and the ps now platform is up to 17 a month. That’s not right. I don’t like PS plus there was nothing special about it now Iam just being forced to add it to ps now. THIS IS JUST A WAY FOR THEM TO RAISE PRICES ON PS NOW. They are fail to mention thatbps now doesn’t work on ps remote app. You have to own the game to play with ps remote. Which I use a lot. Well…use to not anymore. Good bye playstation you just turned into greedy xbox

  • Everyone complaining about ps plus….WHY? you still get to keep your crap service for 10.00 they want ps now member to pay double for adding that crap ps plus at no choice of our own

  • This is cool but when you made accessible ps now to Romania.

  • oh Please PLEASE add The Legend of Dragoon. While they’re at it hey Bluepoint a remake of this game would be the most beautiful thing your team got their hands on it!!

  • that good $17.99 monthly for all playstation games from ps1 ps2 ps3 ps4 psp psvita wooooooo yahhhh
i think like that deal for paying premium monthly
    think i go for it

  • Stop complaining, Sony is literally swapping out bundle of 800 lame out dated games for £8, and instead giving you 400 top-tier new release games for only £4. You realise you’re paying £4 and getting £60 of content once for every modern game you try out right?

  • Now that the two services are being combined, I hope to see more Online Multiplayer games in the streaming/download catalogue. There are a handful the PSNow catalogue (mostly in Sports and Fighting), but it always felt limited due to the Online access being part of PS Plus. Now I’m hoping to see more games become available like Dead by Daylight, Titanfall, and Space Rock Galactic.

  • My question is with both ps plus and ps now service merging will they still offer there yearly Christmas discount cause that would just be the icing on the cake for me.

  • No interest in paying any more for an subscriptions, but if you are allowing downloads of games on a subscription, you better be allowing downloads of games we’ve already purchased.

  • Please can we have better games for PlayStation plus. i dont want games i already own im literally stuck having to buy games on sale 90% for $5.99 that never get to be free at all. destiny is $60.00 why? games that are 8years old should be cheaper.

  • Can we have better games on PlayStation plus im literally stuck having to buy games that are on sale for 90% $5.99. CAN CALL DUTY VANGUARD GO UP FREE NEXT MONTH PLEASE

  • Jim ryan or the genius mark cenry the playstation community would like to see hdr & higher fps or new re vamp playstation plus & v sync for vrr support

  • Dear Jim Ryan,

Neither I nor any of my friends appreciate as you to continue to attempt to turn Sony into EA, Activision or 2K. Please be a darling and resign.

    Thank you,

  • This does sound good in theory….however! I pay for both PS Plus and PS Now, but I renew one during the Days of Play summer sale and the other on Black Friday. Saves me quite a bit of money and I don’t have to pay them at once.

Now I’m essentially forced to pay for both services at once if I still want to keep my benefits. Money’s tight, this is just disappointing 😞

  • Well, this is kinda annoying that we’re still no further than 2014 in NZ/Australia for the now “Premium” service.

Frustrating that we’re left out the loop once again.

Probably be another two-three years before we even get Cloud Streaming.

Whilst yet we’ll be paying more than most people for PS Plus, considering the changes they’re making.

  • I would totally purchase games on this service. Still PSone, PS2, PS3, PSP & Vita(If they become available) games I would purchase. Not paying for a subscription though.

  • Oooo this is awesome for me! I pay like $13/month for PS Plus, and about $15/month for PS Now (Canadian $$). This takes about 1/3 of that cost away. $120/year savings prob doesn’t seem like a lot to most people, but that’s the difference in me being able to buy another game or 2.

  • The big thing I’m actually worried about is the quality of life changes to the PS Plus and the increase in cost for PS Plus.

I get there’s putting a cost increase but I’m seeing more than just an increase, it’s like looking at an entire new company going into the console market with those costs to PS Plus monthly/yearly.

I live in New Zealand and seeing that the “Premium” is $119.99USD/Year is actually really daunting to look at. Considering right now it’s $89.99 over where I live.
That would actually mean if you currency convert $119.99USD = $180NZD just about, that’s not including the GST Tax either. Even $99.99USD is close to $150NZD here which is insane.

For that $180NZD, which is actually over priced by a massive margin AND not to mention everyone’s living in the same world right now with massive hikes on everything.

Owning a PS5 has been a super slow transition to actually playing older titles because of not having a PS5 version of the game (Free Upgrade).
I’ve always been a Sony user but this is quite a massive change is what I’m more shocked at with their approach.

  • Please give the option to purchase and download titles from your legacy systems. If you are able to offer those behind a subscription, you should be able to offer those to purchase. Also, please get a ps3 emulator running natively on ps5. Passionate fans have gotten a ps3 emulator to run on PC and Xbox has figured it out already. I expect you all too. I love Playstation but it is time you celebrate your lineage like you used to do with a robust backwards compatibility program. BC would be such a great goodwill gesture and would give you another stream of revenue for older titles.

    • XBox does not do emulation, they pay a team of people to go through game by game rework it to play on the newer consoles. Not all of their old games work, only the ones they spent time and money on to work.

  • I’m interested, but very much not willing to put money towards it until we AT LEAST get to see the games list. If it’s anything like their Playstation Now lineup, it’s about 70% “classic” games that most people don’t care about, 20% games you’ve never heard of, and about 10% current gen games…that were released two years ago.

  • Merging the two services had to be done, more PS5 owners agree & feeling that way. PS5 owners see advertisements for PS4 games having access to Playstation Now. When we go there, it tells us we can’t do nothing but look while bragging that the PS5 can play any format. I’m sure they get complaints. PS5 owners who paid tons for their machine don’t want to play their old PS4 games when they can play the improved technology they spent their tax refund on. :)

  • I was really hoping this update was going to be related to online being free. Oh how I miss the PS3 days where I didn’t have to pay for online….

  • You guys really just need to allow the PS3, 2, and 1 titles to be available for purchase outright, this just gives me an excuse to continue using my PS3.

  • I wonder if Socom Confrontation and Socom 4 will be online then with the Premium?? Hopefully lol

  • Really just want the Lord of the ring return of the king to be playable on new consoles. Can this happen?

  • Yeah add PlayStation Vita games! PsP games

  • So this is basically everything I predicted they would do, and cheaper! I expected the final tier to be $20, although I did have them guarantee Day 1 Launch for PS Exclusive games. My only question is with regards to the PS,PS2, PSP games. Are ALL of them downloadable? Or Just a “select” number of “classics” downloadable? Streaming is awful so it sucks PS3 games won’t be played at all, but I hope you can at least download all of the others in the top tier.

  • This is cool. I like this.

But I would like to see when my PS3 friends are online on a PS4 is that really too much to ask?

  • If I download a game from PSP, PSX, PS2, etc, will I be able to play it any day no matter if I’m online or not?

The games of the previous consoles will have graphic improvements?
I will be able to play GT3 at 9/16 for example

  • Rumor has it,the other guys are giving multiplayer back. No more paywall over there.

  • Not as bad as I expected

  • They should just make it like Xbox. I pay like $10 and change for access to a pretty decent library of games.

  • What the **** are you smoking with these prices?

  • I want Resident evil 2 daulshock ver Resident evil 3 Resident evil Survivor and Dead AIM Dino Crisis 1 and 2 Dino Stalker Rival Schools 1 and 2 Metal Gear Solid 1 2 substance 3 substances resident evil outbreak 1 and file 2 Silent Hill 1 2 3 and 4 Tekken 2 Tekken 3 Tekken tag Tekken 4 Tekken 5 Tekken 5 dark resurrection Metal Gear Solid portable ops Peace Walker Silent hill Origins Soul Eage and Calibur 2 3 and Broken destiny Medal of Honor MOH underground MOH frontline MOH Rising sun Annnnd the list goes on I hope sony can pull this off

  • The more I think about it, the more mediocre it is. New confusing terminology, 3 different tiers to keep track of, nothing added to base PS+, the streaming services still $100 a year but with PS2 games being switched to a more expensive plan. What does this even accomplish other than renaming PS Now and offering an even more expensive PS Now which is the only place for retro games? This is Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack business strategy, and it sucks. Will it even have all the PS1 games that were on PS3? Still never brought back all the PS2 games…

For the normies who will stick with the cheapest $60 annually, they gain nothing and now the PS Now service has been splintered, with the $100 annual deal being worse now. And if you have to pay $70 per Sony release still, this isn’t even close to a Game Pass response. How about at least guaranteed access to the first few hours? How about SOMETHING? How is it that literally EA Play is better?

And of course, still no effort being put into emulating PS3 or Vita games, even though old PC hardware can run them with software built by hobbyists for free. Sony’s collecting ludicrous amounts of PS+ subscription money, and it’s being put to no use other than continuing to price gouge us. A billion dollar company determined to just sit on their hoard and be absolutely useless in returning that value to the customer.

    • Lots of crying here, This is only a combining of PS+ and PSnow as the article starts with and clearly states. It was never meant to compete with Gamepass bc that loses too much money. If you dont like PSnow just still to PS+ essential. The only negative I see here are the people who only had PSnow who are will be forced into a more expensive option once their subscription runs out.

  • I have a year and a half of the PS Plus subscription right now. how much will it be to upgrade my existing subscription???

    • They haven’t commented on this yet but the email people with both got said as long as the now is active at launch they’re getting it upgraded to premium. I’m currently paid for until 2030 with plus. I subscribed to Now monthly in hopes that they follow the fine print and upgrade the whole thing at launch.

  • This is bad for us Plus subscribers (6 more years on other account) because we paid the same as Now subscribers, but are now given the lowest tier, and those who paid the same get highest tier. But I kinda understand this. Not many are only subbed to Now, probably. They also removed other than 1 month Now subscriptions, so people can’t get it cheaper in the meanwhile.

And it’s not the same as before. One game less, again. You tried to hide that sneakily, didn’t you?

  • I have some questions:
    1. PS plus members will be converted to the PS plus extra edition for free? And if not, how much it will cost to upgrade to the extra edition.
    2. If I will have the PS plus premium edition, I will be able to play PS2 games on PS4? Or just on PS5 because its compatible?
For example, I want to play Ratchet and clank:Going Commando on my PS4. Can I?

  • Ok i just want to know whats going to happen to my current ps plus subscription? we never had ps now in South Africa so i renew my PS Plus every year.

    • your subscription is ok.if you read all you know this but if you whant upgrade.max for your region is ps deluxe (all ,but not ps3 games)

  • need other tier, ultimate tier for all tiers +Sony masterpieces games first day first play. And Sony i whant play ps3 games, but dont play because ps now its foribden for me and for many others.Vote for ULTIMATE TIER With all games

  • Not great. A quick passing comment that PS Plus will still have two free games per month (actually Sony you’ve been giving away three, sometimes four, games per month for quite a while now if you didn’t notice).

Then there is the ‘library will be refreshed regularly’ line. Does this mean all those AAA games like Returnal, Miles Morales etc will be a quick 3 month job and gone like the PS Now headliners generally are. If so, that makes the service fairly average.

Finally, if you were only ever interested in subbing to PS Now (not many I’m sure) then your only option going forward is having to pay £83.99pa rather than £49.99pa like before. So effectively now forced to have PS Plus as well.

Then there is the ‘premium’ tier which is even more expensive but you get to stream PS3 games! Wow! Presumably that’s the exact same PS3 games that are already on PS Now (and 90% of them are garbage). And also access to Ps1, Ps2 and PSP games (yet no mention of what these are).

My Now sub expires in July so I may get a month or two of premium out of it and will then decide whether it’s worth it. I suspect not and will probably be done with Plus at that point as well to be honest as the games are mostly naff and I rarely play online.

  • I’m not sure why we still aren’t getting Vita games. Some of them had touch controls, but not all of them. Very few of them used the back touch area. There’s little reason this can’t be accomplished with the Dual Shock 4 and the Dual Sense controllers since they both have touch areas that aren’t being utilized for anything in any game I’ve seen. Sony continues to slap Vita owners in the face.

  • Am I reading it right that to keep PS Now and PS Plus as they are today, the new price is more than the 2 current subscriptions?

I quite like PS Now, but the only reason I subscribe to PS Plus is to enable online play with certain games. This seems well overpriced to me… if we’ve bought a game with online play, then charging for a subscription to use it is a bit of a racket I reckon.

  • What if I already have PS Plus? Will I have to pay for that subscription?

  • more value means monthly free games from 4 to 2 hahaha

  • If we have years of Ps Plus left and we subscribe to the monthly Now (it’s the only option) will we get our entire time left upgraded to Platinum at launch? The email you sent out seems to suggest this but there’s no confirmation. It says as long as you have an active subscription to both you’ll get premium.

  • Please tell me one of the backward compatible games will be Xenogears… perhaps even Final Fantasy Tactics.

  • Curious If on a PS4

-Can you access the added tiers’ Plus Library of games (PS1/PS2/PSP/PS4) natively? And PS3/PS5 Streamed?
