UPDATE: All-new PlayStation Plus launches in June with 700+ games and more value than ever

PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now come together; players can choose from three flexible options.

Update: We’re making fantastic progress with our launch efforts and I wanted to update you on the latest. We’re rolling out our new offering for PlayStation Plus a little earlier in select markets in Asia, followed by Japan. Here is a look at our updated regional rollout schedule.

  • Asia markets (excluding Japan) – targeting May 23, 2022 (May 24, 2022 in local time zone)
  • Japan – targeting June 1, 2022 (June 2, 2022 in local time zone)
  • Americas – targeting June 13, 2022
  • Europe, Australia, New Zealand – targeting June 22, 2022 (June 23, 2022 in local time zone)

Additionally, we’re also expanding our cloud streaming access to the following locations for a total of 30 markets with cloud streaming access**. The following markets will also offer the Premium tier from PlayStation Plus at launch: Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

We’ve been working on this massive global effort to provide flexible options, quality games and greater value for our members for quite some time now – and we’re just a few weeks away from our first regional rollout. We want to thank our PlayStation community for the ongoing support, and we’ll have more to share as we get closer to launch. Since launching PlayStation Plus in 2010, SIE has been at the forefront of innovation with game subscription services. Today, we are pleased to share with you official news about changes coming to our subscription services. Benefits from Essential and Extra tiers are also included. Local pricing will vary by market.

The new Extra and Premium tiers represent a major evolution for PlayStation Plus. With these tiers, our key focus is to ensure that the hundreds of games we offer will include the best quality content that sets us apart. At launch, we plan to include titles such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal. We’re working closely with our imaginative developers from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners to include some of the best gaming experiences available with a library that will be regularly refreshed. More details to come on the games we’ll have on our new PlayStation Plus service.

When the new PlayStation Plus service launches, PlayStation Now will transition into the new PlayStation Plus offering and will no longer be available as a standalone service. PlayStation Now customers will migrate over to PlayStation Plus Premium with no increase to their current subscription fees at launch.

As this is a massive launch effort, we’re rolling out the new PlayStation Plus offering in a phased regional approach. In the June timeframe, we’ll begin with an initial launch in several markets in Asia, followed by North America, Europe and the rest of the world where PlayStation Plus is offered. We aim to have most PlayStation Network territories live with our new PlayStation Plus game subscription service by the end of the first half of 2022. We also plan to expand our cloud streaming benefit to additional markets, and will provide more details at a later date.

Building upon more than 25 years of expertise in gaming innovation, this change to our subscription services highlights our continued efforts to evolve our network services business to match our customer’s preferences. With the all-new PlayStation Plus, we’re focused on delivering a compelling game subscription service with curated content from our exclusive PlayStation Studios team and our third-party partners. The newly enhanced PlayStation Plus will enable our fans to discover and engage with more content than ever before, and deepen their connection with the PlayStation community through shared experiences.

We’re providing an early look at our new PlayStation Plus subscription service today, and we’ll plan to share more information with you as we get closer to launch. Stay tuned.

  • Anyone know the aus prices and if we will be getting the streaming option?

  • So we’re locked out of our PSOne Classics purchases because of a price tier? wow, just wow… this is low

  • I am personally very excited for this! Better have all the Tekken games.🍗

  • What games Will there be on ps plus extra?

  • Before, like pc user i usually pay 9.99 € at month ,now in future I should to pay 17.99€. why I dont to change company cloud gaming that is more cheap with the same library? And also , will be solved limitation in local multiplayer only for 2 players or not ?

  • Wow this is competitive against GamePass. I would hope Sony tweaks the branding a little. Either drop the Essential name from the base tier or drop the word Plus from all tiers. Examples:

    PlayStation Essential
    PlayStation Extra
    PlayStation Premium

    Or call it:

    PlayStation Access
And add Extra and Premium Access levels

  • it’s great to including both as a bundle but should have a better discount price

  • The only problem that remains now is where is my PC access to games. Wish I could now download God of War and Horizon Zero Down on PC. Heck if Sony doesn’t want to reinvent the PC side of this service why not partner with Steam as EAPlay did with Microsoft. This would be a big game changer!

  • I Hope Price In India 🇮🇳 will be reasonable For PlayStationers To Succeed PlayStation in India,

    SALAAM

  • I’d much prefer actual backwards compatibility… Emulation is very doable Sony, stop being greedy!
As for the 700+ games; nice number, but I’d rather just buy the non-exclusive games I actually want to play on PC, while helping support those developers with a larger share of my money

  • O Hell Yeah and thank you sony for makin this happen.

  • Interesting. Ima definitely pay for the premium year one to get a feel for things. I wonder if there will be any enhancements to the older games (upscaling, increase framerates, etc.)

  • O Hell Yeah and thank you sony for making this happen.

  • That game library be absolutely incredible. I mean utterly top tier. Or I won’t care. Especially since I’m sure you won’t give any subscribers like a free trial upgrade or anything, because that would be decent customer relations, and you are terrible at that. Oh and just in case anyone wasn’t aware, their streaming is only 720p. That better be upgraded to a higher resolution and have a fantastic bitrate, or I’m not going to be interested. I don’t have my hopes up on really being impressed. Nice job not really making the pricing competitive BTW.

  • I get the PS+ Premium thing is an answer to Game Pass on the Xbox and that’s… Fine I guess. But as long as they were integrating support for these older games on the PS4 and PS5 hardware I’d rather them just be added to the marketplace.

There’s room for both. PS+ Premium to have every option available and be able to sample all content but if you want to purchase the license to play those games even should your premium run out you should be able to do that too. That was my issue with PS Now for all of these years. That and my internet connection isn’t the most robust thing in the world. Has trouble with most streaming services so I’d imagine streaming games is out of the question for me.

  • Dear Sony, your “new” #PlaystationPlus subscription remains expensive in these hard times. And still no Day One, first-party games included. I can tell you now it will be a while before people get on board. You have to better. @Xbox remains supreme withe their #GamePassUltimate. Sort this out Sony. Cheers.

    • Why are u even here when we said stop hating. I swear these xbox users are so annoying

    • @djblaster20029

There is this thing called gamers having more than one system. Overall imo gamepass is still the better offer because of day one releases on gamepass.

  • If I live in a country with no PS Now access do I even have the option to get the Extra or Premium version of PS Plus? Sorry if this question has been asked and answered already.

    • You’ll be able to opt for the “Deluxe Version” is what they’re saying because I’m in the same boat, but they haven’t given really anymore in depth details. I’m just more worried at how much more money it’s going to cost for the already near $100/year we have to spend in NZ.

  • I have subscribed PS+ until 2029, will there be any upgrade program for current PS+ members?

  • I get why they are overhauling the system, but it is so much more expensive. And for people like me who are still young and buy the things on their own most of the time it hurts my bank account way more now.

  • It’s not everything but it’s a start will ps1 and ps2 that I bought digital on the PS3 can it be transferable to the ps5 and want type deal is Australia going to get because we don’t have ps now

  • 340 games from PS1-PS3 + PSP isn’t a massive amount. Should be a lot more games than that.

  • I hope the RPG list is stacked with the greatest.

  • so you’re increasing the cost so you can keep up with inflation while continuing to provide a premium service? you monsters!
access to hundreds of classic games to soften the blow? oh you shouldn’t have! 😊

  • omg, how do you report people here?

This guy @iamtylerdurden1 is so annoying and disrespectful.
    get lost pleb

  • Another cash grab by Sony!!
No doubt all games will be old rereleased games.
We want Nintendo games on playstation.

  • soo is the subscription gonna be on the ps4

  • I’m a bit confused by the added benefit of the Extra tier: “Adds a catalog of up to 400* of the most enjoyable PS4 and PS5 games – including blockbuster hits from our PlayStation Studios catalog and third-party partners. Games in the Extra tier are downloadable for play.” The way it’s worded sounds like what we already have with the PlayStation store.

  • So basically the tier 3 membership is exactly the same cost as PS plus and PS now combined? So all they have done is combine them and charge double even though they have made it easier for them to manage memberships now they have not reduced the fee at all. I don’t really see the big change here Tier 2 is the only Tier that is different and most people won’t want it so it’s tier 1 (ps plus as it is now same exact cost) or Tier 3 (ps plus + ps now as it is now and it also is exactly the same cost).

  • I hope there’s a solid upgrade path for people who have existing accounts, especially those of us who just buy Plus cards when they’re on sale and have our accounts paid up for long periods of time. I’m totally down to pay more a month for more perks, but I’ma need my current Plus credit to count towards it in some way.

  • Your middle tier should have replaced PS+as a whole with the top tier being 120 leaving only two options an possibly bringing in way more subscribers than you currently have.

I feel as if this was not really thought out an lacked serious consideration as to what would be more beneficial to building the platform.

I love Playstation but a lot is still lacking for the platform as a whole as far as my specific desires are concerned.

  • Looking forward to more bang for my buck since I already have both. Looking forward to how the service will evolve in the future too!

  • This bugs the living day lights out of me.
I bought Spiderman: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition digitally because it was on sale for a great price. I haven’t played it or even launched the game yet, I was planning to play it during the summer. And now you tell me that I could have saved way more money by waiting and playing it with a Playstation Plus Extra subscription instead (which I still plan on buying on top of the price I payed for Spiderman).

Other than that though… Playstation Extra does sound like a great deal. Significantly cheaper than Playstation Now and will also allow me to play great PS5 games that I would never consider buying at their price point (such as Returnal). I hope to see Sackboy’s Big Adventure and Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart join this selection before September.

I also have the same question as everyone else, I have a 1-year Playstation Plus subscription which doesn’t expire until the end of the year. Will I be able to upgrade to Playstation Plus Extra without over paying?

  • Reminder to keep asking for an alternative way to access these classic games preferably offering them as individual purchases on actual PSN outside this subscription, also you should put every title on the PS3 and VITA stores on sale.

  • So this is their answer to backward compatibility, to charge extra money to get what they promised in the first place. So now instead of being able to play the games I already paid for, through backward compatibility, I have to pay for them again. Sorry **** but I am not going to be paying $120 a month for the priviledge to play games I already own.
Here is a question are they planning to add each and every game ever made into the mix, because when NOW came out I looked into it because I had older games I would like to play again and they were not in the list, which is why I never jumped on board the NOW train.
So now all those with disposable incomes get the creme of the crop and us limited income people have to take the scraps, Thx for nothing ****.

  • Those of you complaining about streaming. I stream PSNow at work on a laptop with 16gb ram and and i5 7th gen processor. Wireless, while running Norton in the background. Most of the time in runs pretty good. So at that PS3 games run even better while streaming on a actual PS4 or PS5. Also most of the good games already have remasters. I do not expect too much from this new service in terms of older games due to licensing.

    • I mean if it doesn’t bother you then have at it. Xbox’s streaming is “pretty good” as well, but its still overall extremely noticeable input delay. I think streaming is neat if you wanna try a game and don’t have to waste an hour downloading it, but outside of that its a hard pass on streaming games.

  • I’ve subscribed to PS Plus since it’s inception in the PS3 days. I’ve never let my subscription lapse, except maybe one month in the early days.

Do you all think that there will be enough variety of “new” PS plus games PS4/PS5 in the middle tier to make it worth the cost of upgrading from the basic.

I have no interest in streaming PS3 games. I still have a functional PS3 that will run all the games I want to play.

My fear is that these games will just be a rehash of all the free PS Plus games we have gotten monthly for the last 8 years or so on the PS4.

Sony should be up front and give us a roadmap of all the upcoming games that will be added to the service. They don’t have to give specific dates, but at least tell us the titles. I would be very angry if 90% of the games are a rehash of former PS Plus freebies, and a few first party PS5 games I already own. As a day one buyer of most blockbuster 1st party games I’m not really feeling the value here.

  • Sony’s new subscription doubles the price of streaming PlayStation games on PC

    • If they give us more and better game I’m ok with that. We will see how it looks when Sony shows all of the cards.

  • Sony’s new subscription doubles the price of streaming PlayStation games on PC….

    • Streaming on PC (or PS4 Pro) is not good anyway because PS3 games are stuck at 720p (even games like Flow or PixelJunk Eden which ran at 1080p) with visible compression artifacts. Also, PS4 titles will still get video glitches and are not “PS4 Pro Enhanced”.

This service is not for PC gamers or game enthusiasts.

  • I’m actually ok with the pricing for the content we’re getting I love that I will be able to play older ps1 2 and 3 and psp games I’m happy that brand new first party won’t be day and date as I think that hurts developers bottom line this isn’t gamepass and I’m happy it’s not.

    • Microsoft pays the studios for day and date releases. The developers bottom lines are not getting hurt.

Sony not doing the same makes me completely uninterested in the service.

  • I honestly can’t get behind this. The catalog of old games is cool, but it looks like they are still doing the same method of before with PS Now with only releasing older games. GamePass obviously can’t compete with playstations long list of old games, but new games come to game pass on release day. I’m not gonna drop $120 on a service that can’t bother to also have games on the service on release day. I already dislike that multiplayer games require a subscription service on both Xbox and PS, but sony double dipping here with these services and still asking you to pay full price for new games is a no thanks from me.

  • Exactly. I might sub for the higher tier for like a single month if there’s an old PS1/2 title that I wanna play, but lack of day one titles makes me just want to stick with gamepass. If they offered day one titles I’d have no problem dropping a full year sub.

  • I have ps plus paid in full until 5/20/23 , how much to upgrade my account to the top tier

  • It seems like you have forgotten there are kids out there who have parent (s) that are on tight budgets, you already get $70.00 a game now youre going raise your services too! When you can’t ven get the Ps5 in the market without having to get one through scapers.

  • No mention of an upgrade path for existing subscriptions?

  • I’m feeling a bit disappointed with this, I thought that with a powerful hardware as PS5, offering cloud streaming for PS3 is a shame given that emulation of PS3 is possible in a PC now. I have a large physical and digital collection of PS3 titles and I can’t play them because you are just lazy, if you plan to compete with xbox gamepass with this offering, surely you’re going to lose.

  • If someone has the yearly version of both Now and Plus does the new update translate to a yearly subscription of Premium?

  • How do you find your messages on this blog?

  • Last week I renewed my yearly PS plus subscription what happens to it in June after the update? Do I have to pay a gain or??

  • I hope Parasite Eve series, Clock Tower, Vagrant Story, Wild Arms, Xenogears, Star Ocean 2nd Story and Valkyrie Profile in there, miss that game.
