We’ve been working on this massive global effort to provide flexible options, quality games and greater value for our members for quite some time now – and we’re just a few weeks away from our first regional rollout. We want to thank our PlayStation community for the ongoing support, and we’ll have more to share as we get closer to launch. Benefits from Essential and Extra tiers are also included. Local pricing will vary by market.

The new Extra and Premium tiers represent a major evolution for PlayStation Plus. With these tiers, our key focus is to ensure that the hundreds of games we offer will include the best quality content that sets us apart. At launch, we plan to include titles such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal. We’re working closely with our imaginative developers from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners to include some of the best gaming experiences available with a library that will be regularly refreshed. More details to come on the games we’ll have on our new PlayStation Plus service.

When the new PlayStation Plus service launches, PlayStation Now will transition into the new PlayStation Plus offering and will no longer be available as a standalone service. PlayStation Now customers will migrate over to PlayStation Plus Premium with no increase to their current subscription fees at launch.

As this is a massive launch effort, we’re rolling out the new PlayStation Plus offering in a phased regional approach. In the June timeframe, we’ll begin with an initial launch in several markets in Asia, followed by North America, Europe and the rest of the world where PlayStation Plus is offered. We aim to have most PlayStation Network territories live with our new PlayStation Plus game subscription service by the end of the first half of 2022. We also plan to expand our cloud streaming benefit to additional markets, and will provide more details at a later date.

Building upon more than 25 years of expertise in gaming innovation, this change to our subscription services highlights our continued efforts to evolve our network services business to match our customer’s preferences. With the all-new PlayStation Plus, we’re focused on delivering a compelling game subscription service with curated content from our exclusive PlayStation Studios team and our third-party partners. The newly enhanced PlayStation Plus will enable our fans to discover and engage with more content than ever before, and deepen their connection with the PlayStation community through shared experiences.

We’re providing an early look at our new PlayStation Plus subscription service today, and we’ll plan to share more information with you as we get closer to launch. Stay tuned.

  • The only issue I have with this, is the lack of PS5 games. I know there are lots of people that still enjoy playing the older games. But for me personaly, I didn’t stand outside in the snow for 12 hours to get a PS5 to play PS3 games on. Xbox offers DAY 1 releases of brand new Next-Gen games. Can we expect to see anything like that? I am 100% a PS person. But Xbox has had way better games offered on thier game pass, which in turn has led me to side with them on game streaming, plus due to the last time I looked at PS Now PS5 games weren’t even available. If Sony can find a way to offer some new games on release, I feel It would have a huge impact on the amount of subscribers to the higher tiers, as well as take people away from Xbox game pass. I still cant believe Xbox is getting MLB the show 22 on release instead of PS!!
    Q. Will you be posting a list of available games that will be included in the 2 higher priced tiers of PS Plus?
    Q. If I already payed for this years PS Plus, is it just automatically changed to the base tier of the new PSP?
    Q. Will there be a way to upgrade to a higher tier by just paying the difference in price, or am I going to be charged the full amount?

    • I honestly think that PS5 titles will get “Time Limited Trials” like we had with PS+ during the PS3 era. I already use the PC Game Pass as a “trial”/rental service.

  • So will there be any upgrade options for current ps plus yearly users or are we just going to have to wait an entire year for it to end or pay up $120.

  • Question will the service be coming to New Zealand? PlayStation now wasn’t available will this be available in NZ?

  • So let’s get this straight…

The middle tier is supposed to be the GamePass killer, but with gamepass MS is guaranteeing new MS studio games are included at launch, and all we are getting here is that we will see “– including blockbuster hits from our PlayStation Studios catalog”? Sure does sound like GamePass is getting new games and all we will see on PS+ are older “red boxed” “catalog” games. If you want to see me buy into this new tier PS, clarify that we will see new Sony games at launch or reduce the price of this tier because it is not the equivalent of gamepass.

  • What if I have 2 years of PS+ and a year of Now, I’ll get a year of premium but what about my 2 years of regular Plus? Is that just lost ?

  • Good! PlayStation is bringing PSP baby!!!!

  • I should be allowed to stream my PS3 purchases on my PS5 without having to subscribe or rent those games again

  • I hope the quality of free games does not get any worse than they have lately, plus, I do hhnk the pricing is a little on the expensive side, plus hopefully Sony will soon get to grips with distribution of the ps5 console in the UK

    • What pisses me off is the cheaper prices if you buy a year’s worth. I’m on a low income. I can only manage this by paying monthly.

  • Hey there PlayStation team ! Name is Daniel and I’ve been a PlayStation owner since the system came out ! Huge dedicated fan ! I was just wondering if PlayStation is gna make there games accessible to via phone device to play on the go!? Just asking , anyways great work guys ! Super proud to be a Sony fan thank you 🙏🏼

  • Nice!! About the Vita games I believe they won’t put em because of the backtouch/touch screen controls. There is a way around it by using the touch pad on PS4 & PS5 but doubt it if developers wil go back to change the controls.

  • I’m curious to see the what Ps and Ps2 games are going to be added. I hope they put some of the harder to find ps2 titles. Give me Valkyrie Profile, Radiata Stories, and the or

  • Sounds all good good to me. PS+ has been kind of lame for a while now and I have subbed to it pretty much since it launched. Having 400+ games to play paying I wee bit more is fine with me. Finally some new (for me) games to try out playing on my PS5. 👍💙🤗

  • Still no Proper PS3 emulation. I’m sorely dissapointed in this service.

  • What will be the upgrade path for those of us that have PSPlus prepaid for some period of time but might want to upgrade to Extra or Premium?

    • Curious about this too – I have PS Plus until about September 2023, so since the UK price for the highest tier is double the basic one I wonder if I get half the months for no extra charge if I upgrade?

    • Pay more money, I have no doubt. Probably a prorated price or whatever.

    • If you have a year of plus buy a year of ps now and when it changes in June-August for us in the UK you will automatically move to the highest teir

  • Um only 2 games a month? Don’t we currently get 3, 2 ps4 and 1 ps5, are we losing a PS4 game each month.

    • I guess so. But at the bottom it says nothing changes for current ps plus subscribers. So I’m not sure.

    • One ps4 game and one ps5 game. The ps5 game might at some months be only ps5 making your ps plus games on ps4 one game.

  • Sorry i know that you have been asked tons of times but Please work with gaigan entertainment to add the market place to war thunder i know you do not get a cut of purchases but it will make war thunder community happy. Please consider

  • This sounds like a good deal overall, hoping that they can get all of the Metal Gear, Batman Arkham, God of War and Assassins Creed games in there eventually so I can either replay or play some catch up. PS2 and PS3 replays is probably the thing I’ll be most excited for.

  • So you’re locking our PS3 PSN purchases of PS1/2 games behind a subscription paywall? Yeah my Plus expires in December & will stay expired.

    • They are currently “locked” as in “locked on your PS3”, but I understand what you mean.

    • Of course. Thanks to the joke that PS Now is. That’s the ONLY reason they don’t allow digital versions of classic games on the PS4 in the first place.

  • I have a years worth of PS Plus, can I upgrade to a higher subscription without wasting that year?

    • You can pay for ps now to automatically move to the highest level. To be honest you can find offers online for cheap ps now. I can see it being a pay the difference upgrade so £49.99 UK and $59.99 USA

  • One of the options should include the ability to add family members like children or spouse to the subscription so they can play online together on games without having to purchase a playstation plus for each individual in a family.

    • Same console or 2 different consoles?

If same console, just activate the 1 holding ps plus as main console. So everyone on that console gets ps plus.

If 2 consoles. Activate 1 console as main console with the ps plus holder, so anyone other than ps plus holder could use this console. The ps plus holder can play on any other console without having to activate that console and can play together with their family.

    • As long as they are on the same console I believe you can do this as long as the payers account is the primary account

    • Main reason people account sharing all over the world

  • Lower the price please these are very expensive prices 😮‍💨😟

  • I can´t reply to a reply but this is just a genius way to give VIta owners a big thanks for the support and also getting them on the PSPlus Premium tier:

If the vita games are difficult to port to others consoles, why not simply have them avaiable for download on the Vita?

    • Because that would require Sony caring about it’s customers a tiny bit. They don’t even have sales on Vita games anymore. I mean, ugh.

  • I just want elaboration on a few things:

    1) Will I be able to buy the PS1, PS2, and PSP games that I want separately, the way I could on PSP/PS3/PS Vita, or are you being anti-consumer like Nintendo and locking them behind a subscription and not letting me actually own any of my own games?

    2) Will there be simple/basic visual enhancements for those games running on emulation? The small selection of PS2 games currently on PS4 have all been upscaled to 1080p and 60 FPS. I expect the same thing for all the PS1/PS2/PSP games running on PS4. An I expect the PS4 Pro and PS5 to offer those same games in 4K, because I know for a fact that they have more than enough GPU power to do it.

    3) What exactly will the selection of games be? Will the PS2 games only be the 50 that are already available? Or will you offer other obvious choices that should have already been on PS4? (MGS2 & 3, Silent Hill 2 & 3, Persona 3 & 4, etc.)

If you allow me to play the PS2 version of MGS2 and play it on my PS5 in 4K 60FPS, AND you give me the option to buy that game and any others separately, I’ll happily pay for this subscription.

But if you don’t offer the ability to buy these games games separately, if you leave them in their original 240p resolution, or if you just have a crappy selection of games, absolutely no one is going to buy this. Most modern smartphones can run PS1 and PSP games at upscaled resolutions through emulation. Xbox backwards compatibility runs all original Xbox games at 4K. Emulators can be installed on the Xbox Series S that run PS1, PS2, and PSP games in 4K flawlessly. To say nothing of what PC emulation can do, playing PS3 games natively.

I understand the limitations, you obviously cannot make the games free, and you are beholden to copyright issues with some games. But if you’re asking people to pay for these things, you have to make sure that what you’re offering is AT LEAST as good (performance and graphics-wise) as what people can get on your competitor’s platform through unofficial means.

    • Totally agree 👍

    • What you can do is try get ps now, now, on free trial and stream a ps2 game and see if it lives up to expectations. That’s if ps now has ps2 games. And if it’s not upscaled to 4k, then I doubt they’d do that by June when the tier system goes live. I could be wrong, I just don’t trust playstation enough.

    • My take is, if Playstation suddenly decided to enhance Nier Automata and some other games of last generation on PS5, that will be a sign they will do it to older games. But take it with a grain of salt. If a PS4 game is not treated how the competition cater to their customer, then that is a sign also.
I’m really on a fence right noe, going to the other team. Yeah, the green one.

    • I love this post.

    • Oh you know they’re not going to offer a buying option. That would be too smart, and too fair.

  • Question
Would I be able to play PS3 or earlier PlayStation games if I were to upgrade to Plus Premium? I have a PS5.

  • What about day one release games, xbox game pass offers this, why has there been no mention of new ps5 titles free to download.
For new ps gamers, this is a good deal, but for the old school boys like me who have most of the titles they are offering, its just not worth it.

    • They already said no day one games whatsoever. However, two or three months later is more than likely.

    • If they do day one release then it will be a trial thing where you get 10 hours to play before you have to pay for it. Issue being they start the trial from downloading start like they have done before. So if you have bad Internet and it says 8 hours download you have two hours play

  • The main thing I am curious about is if PlayStation is going to do something similar to what Nintendo did when they released the n64 plus or whatever its called and offer the higher tier’s for a marked down price for the first year if you already renewed. If they do that great I am more then happy to try the highest tier right away, if not I may just wait till my renewal in December.

    • Heh, in no way is the expansion pack a fair thing for what it costs. Maybe if Nintendo actually had a decent online to begin with, which they don’t.

  • This is a good upgrade, the only downsides are the pricing and lack of Vita games. other than that this is pretty good. Not Game Pass level but it’s still good nonetheless.

  • I was about to be mad at the pricing, but realized it’s only £13. £2 more than game pass ultimate. So might give it a go. Wondering if you can stream PS5 games on the PS4?

  • I have PS Plus subscription until new year, hope I can upgrade and hopefully not a pain!

  • Any reason to why we can’t download the PS3 and have to stream them. I have a really good connection but would be dope to play them off my PS5’s external.

  • What I find lame is that they DIDN’T offer ANYTHING extra for existing PlayStation Plus subscribers!
Yet it seems that anyone that already had PSN will get all the benefits of the Premium plan!!! LAME!!!!!

  • for a grand announcement its just merging 2 paid for services at the same price, no savings, no hook, just a combined service with a new name, or spend more.

Its hardly a revelation is it, now combining the 2 & paying say a third less would be good, then a bit more for top tier, that might have got me.

Sorry in the days of ever rising costs across the board you havent really done anything but a name change, very dissappointed to be honest.

You make a mint on downloadable games, often much more than physical copies, so wheres the grand change & an offer to impress the faithful fans of Playstation?

  • So does this mean college sports and Fight Night coming back?

  • Price is to high to play old games on ps5 why can’t we just do what microsoft did u own it got the disc Congratulations u can play it is it to much to ask Sony !!!

  • Honestly its sad u can’t offer PS5 games as well day 1 release like x box as well untill i can do the i own it i can play it and u offer PS5 games day 1 release im not upgraging

  • Price point is to high for the 2nd tier. Game selection for the first tier is trash. I’ve deleted about every download last year and this year with the exception of 2 games. This might be great for those who hung o to their old systems but it’s a NO for me.

  • Is there an Australian price on this? And what happens if you’re ahead on payments? I’m paid on ps plus until 2023.

  • Will any of these services remove the 1K file limit on the onine storage?

  • Actually was hoping to find crunchyroll in on 1 of the tiers. Would have been nice and would convince a few anime fans.

  • Do you hate the Vita that much to a point that not a single game is included in the selection?

  • I hope the retro game offerings are updated frequently! I cannot wait for the retro games!!

  • Thanks~

  • Love it! :D

  • Fantastic!! great news!!!! best time to have a PlayStation!

  • Something I want to see come with this is an update where our PSOne and PS2 discs work as well as our PSP (and Vita) downloads. I get that PS3 is near impossible to emulate, but PS2 and PSOne discs is doable and with PSP, PSone/SS2 classics, there really is no excuse why we can’t access the store and get our old purchases with them being now emulated on PS4 and 5.

I have a ton of purchases from those categories and would buy more if this is made reality.

  • 120 only 60 more i have nothing to lose and a new world of play I’m in

  • I think it’s totally discriminatory to offer a service to some regions and not others if it can’t be given to all customers don’t give it at all this is discrimination and if it’s not fixed I will be starting a class action suit against Sony for discrimination

  • How much will it be to upgrade from a current PS plus account with years to expire? my ps+ subscription expires on 2025 but I am interested in upgrading to Extra or Premium. How much is that?

  • Dang, those are some expensive prices. Looks like I won’t be getting Premium anytime soon.

Admittedly, though, they’re not super expensive; I was expecting these tiers to be a whole lot more.

  • Will backwards compatibility for PS1,PS2,PS3, and PSP be available on PS4, or only PS5?
