UPDATE: All-new PlayStation Plus launches in June with 700+ games and more value than ever

PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now come together; players can choose from three flexible options.

Update: We’re making fantastic progress with our launch efforts and I wanted to update you on the latest. We’re rolling out our new offering for PlayStation Plus a little earlier in select markets in Asia, followed by Japan. Here is a look at our updated regional rollout schedule.

  • Asia markets (excluding Japan) – targeting May 23, 2022 (May 24, 2022 in local time zone)
  • Japan – targeting June 1, 2022 (June 2, 2022 in local time zone)
  • Americas – targeting June 13, 2022
  • Europe, Australia, New Zealand – targeting June 22, 2022 (June 23, 2022 in local time zone)

Additionally, we’re also expanding our cloud streaming access to the following locations for a total of 30 markets with cloud streaming access**. The following markets will also offer the Premium tier from PlayStation Plus at launch: Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

We’ve been working on this massive global effort to provide flexible options, quality games and greater value for our members for quite some time now – and we’re just a few weeks away from our first regional rollout. We want to thank our PlayStation community for the ongoing support, and we’ll have more to share as we get closer to launch. Since launching PlayStation Plus in 2010, SIE has been at the forefront of innovation with game subscription services. We were thrilled to be the first console membership service that included a refreshed library of games through PlayStation Plus, and also launched the first console game streaming service with PlayStation Now.

Today, we are pleased to share with you official news about changes coming to our subscription services. This June, we’re bringing together PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now in an all-new PlayStation Plus subscription service that provides more choice to customers across three membership tiers globally.

Benefits from Essential and Extra tiers are also included. Local pricing will vary by market.

The new Extra and Premium tiers represent a major evolution for PlayStation Plus. With these tiers, our key focus is to ensure that the hundreds of games we offer will include the best quality content that sets us apart. At launch, we plan to include titles such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal. We’re working closely with our imaginative developers from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners to include some of the best gaming experiences available with a library that will be regularly refreshed. More details to come on the games we’ll have on our new PlayStation Plus service.

When the new PlayStation Plus service launches, PlayStation Now will transition into the new PlayStation Plus offering and will no longer be available as a standalone service. PlayStation Now customers will migrate over to PlayStation Plus Premium with no increase to their current subscription fees at launch.

As this is a massive launch effort, we’re rolling out the new PlayStation Plus offering in a phased regional approach. In the June timeframe, we’ll begin with an initial launch in several markets in Asia, followed by North America, Europe and the rest of the world where PlayStation Plus is offered. We aim to have most PlayStation Network territories live with our new PlayStation Plus game subscription service by the end of the first half of 2022. We also plan to expand our cloud streaming benefit to additional markets, and will provide more details at a later date.

Building upon more than 25 years of expertise in gaming innovation, this change to our subscription services highlights our continued efforts to evolve our network services business to match our customer’s preferences. With the all-new PlayStation Plus, we’re focused on delivering a compelling game subscription service with curated content from our exclusive PlayStation Studios team and our third-party partners. The newly enhanced PlayStation Plus will enable our fans to discover and engage with more content than ever before, and deepen their connection with the PlayStation community through shared experiences.

We’re providing an early look at our new PlayStation Plus subscription service today, and we’ll plan to share more information with you as we get closer to launch. Stay tuned.

*Local pricing may vary by market. PlayStation Plus catalog titles may also vary by market and tier, and may change over time. • Bs money grab took my ps3 games away then make me pay for this bs to maybe get them back, what about the people who already has ps+ for a year do we get upgraded for free?

  • What a trash service. For existing PS+ members everything stays the same. Except we only get 2 games going forward instead of 3. And i bet the quality of those games will even get worse than it is now (hard to imagine). Just look at the Xbox Gold games lineup.
At least Xbox has an amazing service with gamepass.
Arent half of those games they metioned already part of past PS+ offerings ps+ collection or PSnow.
And on top of that backwards compatibility is behind a paywall.

Once again amazing to see that we have old arrogant Sony back. I guess some things will never change.

So happy that i finnaly made the switch to PC. Cause honestly f*** console hardware makers. All of them!

  • No comment, but these are really neat benefits.

  • So… Playstation has been working harder at developing a new tier upgrade system, while neglecting other issues with this roll out. However, PS5 is still barely attainable without going through scalpers.
How about we fix the main issue, getting the PS5 out to waiting consumer’s. (I have mine after several wait lists) still many are waiting for the PS5 before upgrading anything else.
And good questions in this thread for those who have both paid services PS Now / Playstation Plus … how will that translate to transfer of services? Refunds? Credits? I don’t think that has been addressed clear enough.
In the premium service, will there be servers that can handle the online streaming gameplay for those who are “streamers”? No lag, glitches, buffering etc??? Sure hope it’s a service worth investing, otherwise it’s just another way to get our dollars for nothing.
    Cheers!

  • I’m sorry, I really did expect more. I’m excited about the library additions and the subsidized costs for people who currently have PSNow+PSPlus and pay annually, but WHO thought it was a good idea to announce this and NOT have a mobile app for streaming ready to go? The ONLY reason I subscribed to Xbox Game Pass a year ago was because I could play the games on offer without owning an Xbox, or in some cases, play a Series X game on an Xbox One or web browser through streaming. The versatility that mobile streaming brings is really where Game Pass’ edge is here. Remote Play exists but it’s extremely flawed (no support for other controller types, capping at 720p for older consoles, no PSNow streaming through remote play, etc). And by the way, if your explanation is that you can’t release an iPhone app because of App Store rules, my answer is forget them. Xbox has a web client for those customers, you should too. I’m proud of what you’ve managed to do but I know you can do better.

  • The Xbots have invaded I see.

Anyways I want to know if you can buy PSP/ PS1 games separate from PSplus premium and will trophies be added to them?

  • you’ll own nothing

  • Can you please tell me when jump force coming back

  • I have a question I have ps plus paid until 2023 does this mean I’ll have to pay more for the new service or will I be placed in a tier

    • We’ll be placed in the lowest tier automatically….
But I want to know how I can upgrade to Premium. Will I be refunded for what I’ve pre-paid?

  • If we have ps+ on a ps5 then will the ps collection be taken away and put into the catalogue of games or what?

  • I really love these changes is really interesting I hope you guys keep it up with the good work I love it it’s really interesting I am going to be part of it thank you PlayStation for doing this for all of us this is a big impact in the community awesome I am so excited I can’t wait thank you again..🤗🤗🤗🤗🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

  • Thank you Sony. This sounds like a huge overhaul to the service, and its nice to know that i can upgrade anytime i want to get my PS1 and PS2 gaming fix! I still got hundreds of games on my backlog I need to play and finish. I just hope you don’t close down PS3 store anytime soon because of this.

  • I’m not a fan of the pricing of all three tiers. I know Playstation, you guys are trying to be the next competitor to XBOX Game Pass, but with these prices, it should’ve been a lot better. Sorry Jim Ryan, but you’re not Phil Spencer.

  • Well they finally took my tier ps plus idea, too bad that instead of providing people who just want multiplayer a cheaper alternative, they came up with a way to grift more money out of people. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised considering how Gran Turismo turned out. They could have made a lesser tier with just the multiplayer for $10 a year and still did this, but no. Better yet they could have just STOPPED CHARGING TO PLAY WITH FRIENDS!!!!!! Sony is becoming worse with their business practices more and more almost every day.

  • It’s very silly that you can’t play PS1/2 games that you already own on their own store with a PS4/5, but they are perfectly willing to rent them to you for an extra subscription fee

    • Maybe they will clarify this later. I would like to play my PS Classics and PS2 Classics on the PS4. (I bought all of them on the PS3.)

  • Wow!!! Can’t wait to play Skate 3 and SSX Tricky or 3 👀😀🙂🙏🏽

  • Gamepass but worse, got it. I’m not paying 120$ just to play PS3 games when I can on my PS3, plus it’s all streaming . I will just keep emulating until we can actually buy these games

  • I won’t invest in the extra service until Sly and Ratchet trilogies are available for download to the PS4. The streaming service has horrible latency that makes these games very hard to play.

The fact that these two trilogies never came to the PS4 is inhumane. They are a staple in your history, and you’ve never even brought them to the platform, yet you brought Jak trilogy over? Why?

  • All I want to know is if I can play Batman Arkham Origins….the version from the ps now store sucked. Always lagged. Please……they gave had so much opportunities to at least remaster it so it can play on PS4/ps5 but they won’t.

    • Really hope so too, it’s the best game in the series in my opinion and I still hate the fact it never got a remaster like Asylum and City did…

  • I bought digital copies of PS1 games for my PS3. I see that PS3 games will be available for streaming and PS1 games will be available for streaming and download. It would be nice if I could download the PS1 games I purchased for my PS3 onto my PS4 or PS5 without upgrading my PS+ membership. Just a thought and I know that could be easier said than done.

  • Bruh them prices mad expensive

  • Pure greed, and nothing more.

  • This is awesome news! I’ll be signing up for the premium tier for sure. Thank you PlayStation!

  • We did discuss this about Tiers of Ps+ When it was first launch but it didn’t happen till now.

it only make sense, first offering just 3 PS3 games and 2 PSP games with cloud saving is what we got. while game pass Xbox has more games then Plus and that was before Ps now was either a thing.

Merging them makes sense, as game pass is also cloud streaming. also downloadable I think. So the Ps now name will end be PSPP+

    (PlayStation Plus Premium+)

but of course the devil is in the details.

  • I got a questioni have renew my ps plus this month. but what happens in june when the new ps plus launches? do i have to repay for ps plus in june?

    • No. It will be converted to the , lowest tier, essential subscription. PS. From now on, renew your sub around Black Friday for around $30. Its been this cheap 4 years. Via Ebay.

    • $30 for a year, that is. I’m sure the premium tier will be around $70-$80 a year.

  • So a more expensive Gamepass competitor that is objectively worse? Way to go, Sony. I still cant find a reason i can play 20 year old playstation games on my phone but i cant play them on a ps5 with this “special program”. No, thank you.

  • I’m sure PS5 owners will get screwed. Most games will be the Ps4 version. The additional bonuse discounts will be a laughable low reduction in the PS5 upgrade price. Making the service basically worthless. Sony is pushing me more &more 2 PC only gaming. :(

  • So why can’t I just download the PSOne Classics and PS2 games I have already bought on PSN? If PS1 and PS2 games can be downloaded, that means the PS4 and PS5 can play them natively. So why should I pay again to play games I already bought? MS seems to allow all their older games to be played at no extra cost, why can’t Sony do this?

  • You mention PS Now subs automatically get PS Premium but what about if we have 12 months of Plus left do we get any savings towards buying a year of Extra or Premium?

  • OMG if they have the Socom franchise on there that would be so dope.

  • Well this is absolute garbage… I pay yearly for PSNow so I can play older PS games on PC.. I don’t own a console. Why is streaming only available in the most expensive package? I will now be charged more than double and it doesn’t even include ps5 games? What BS!

  • Looking really good.
I do hope that games available for streaming will also become available natively, I live in a country without Playstation Now and even if there was I would not trust the latency over here, and also simply available for purchase as well and not just subscription.
The thing I would love the most is to use my original PS3 discs I got over here maybe even PS2 and PS1, I am aware of how huge mission it’s to work it out, but still.

  • The article doesn’t say how I can upgrade my two years of pre-paid PS Plus to PS Premium…

  • I think this is a well-thought-out move. I will not be upgrading my subscription simply because my backlog has been laughing at me while I put another hour on top of my 1,300+ hours of GTA Online. If that weren’t the case, I would 100% be upgrading. Don’t worry Sony, haters gone hate. I’ve been hoping for this since PS Now was introduced and I’m one of many that are happy it’s here.

  • why can’t we have a half a year

  • Some news about when streaming is coming to NZ (and Australia I suppose ;-) ) would be nice!

  • No native PS3 backwardscompatibility? Disappointing…

  • What happens to the games that make up the PS Plus Collection on PS5? Are those games rolled into this tier, or does that still exist as a stand-alone collection?

  • I like it, but I have never been a member of PSplus. Should I join now or wit until June?

  • Is this app available on Android TV etc.?

  • Honestly I am very happy with this. I already pay $60 for ps plus and $60 for ps now. Getting all this extra stuff is going to be awesome.

    • so since Ps now will merge with plus. At no extra cost you save $60.

I think that a steal. but I want to know how can PSP games play on big HD telly or will I have to use my dusty PSP. :O

  • Any news about the Brazilian PSN? I really want to know if we’ll get the Premium and/or Deluxe…

  • Return PS Plus back to Russia please.
We want to play too, we pay your for it.

  • Sony, please, return back PS Plus to Russia.
We pay your for it, we want play too.

  • Game Pass has entered the chat.

  • As a lifelong fan of PlayStation since the original, I basically never write here, but this news I simply couldn’t sit out on.

I can’t stress enough of incredibly disappointing it is that PlayStation completely ignores PS3 BC.

It not being available on the PS4 was understandable (given the hardware limitations), but the PS5 is more than powerful enough.

If a bunch of enthusiasts, with nowhere near the resources that Sony has, can make an emulator (RPCS3) run ALL PS3 games on hardware that is much less capable than a PS5… So can Sony.

A Premium service should have native PS3 games, period. Sorry, but just streaming games isn’t enough!

You were once the best in the business when it came to BC… You can do better, Sony!

I’m happy for the native PS1, PS2 and PSP games though!

(Ya’ll better include the Silent Hill games!)

    • Yes he is right

    • Yeah… Now that I think of it, the PS5 should be powerful enough… I guess Sony will need to evaluate the cost/benefit ratio. 🤷‍♂️ If people who use a PS3 backward compatibility feature end up being the one who also spend the most on games (physical or digital), then Sony should invest in emulation; but if only 2% of the PS5 owners use the emulator and barely buy any game, why would Sony care?

I don’t even plan to buy a PS5, and I definitely don’t plan to buy missing PS3 games on a “PS5 store”, or even on disc. (I already have my PS3 and most of the games I want.)

  • Game-Pass is scared now.

  • I’m mainly interested in the PS1, PS2 and PSP games, so I’m a bit gutted they’re paywalled behind the most expensive tier.

I wish we could just buy and download the games we want.

  • So
No possibility for ps now only customers, to stay, if they do not want pay for unused ps plus features
    Sad
I have to sell my PS, I think
    :(

  • Ps now isn’t available in australia so what’s the point of it
