Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut arrives on PS5 and PS4 consoles on August 20

Explore the brand new Iki Island, plus PS5-specific enhancements like DualSense controller haptic feedback, Japanese lip sync, and more.

What a year it’s been! As we approach the one-year anniversary of Ghost of Tsushima, we are so grateful for the outpouring of love you’ve sent us since launch. It means so much to see how Jin’s story has resonated with all of you, and we feel incredibly lucky to have such dedicated and supportive fans.

We’ve thought a lot about how to expand Jin’s story, and we’ve also spent the last year poring over all of your feedback about how we could improve the experience of playing Ghost of Tsushima. We’ve been hard at work on a brand new edition of the game, which not only includes a new chapter in Jin’s journey, but also some new updates that are a direct response to some of the community’s most-requested features.

We’re happy to announce that on August 20, we’ll be releasing Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on both PS5 and PS4 consoles. This new edition comes packed not only with the original game and every piece of additional content we’ve sold to date, but a brand-new adventure for Jin alongside a bunch of new features that we’re excited to reveal.

Iki Island

If you’re a history buff, you may know that in addition to Tsushima, the neighboring island of Iki was also invaded during this time period. Today we’re excited to reveal that a whole new chapter in Jin’s journey is coming and will take place on Iki. In this new story, Jin travels to the island to investigate rumors of a Mongol presence. But soon, he finds himself caught up in events with deeply personal stakes that will force him to relive some traumatic moments from his past.

We’ll have more to share about the story of Iki soon, but today we can confirm that beyond a whole new story and new characters, this new island also features tons of new content including brand new environments to explore, new armor for Jin as well as his horse, new mini-games, new techniques, new enemy types, and much more. There are even new animals to pet!

On both platforms, Director’s Cut will also offer new Trophies to unlock for the new Iki content.

PS5 exclusive features

While Director’s Cut players on both PS4 and PS5 will be able to experience the Iki Island content, PlayStation 5 players will have access to a few additional new features.

We’ve heard your feedback about the lack of Japanese lip sync in the original version of Ghost of Tsushima, and it’s something we worked hard to address in this new release. Thanks to the PS5’s ability to render cinematics in real time, cutscenes in Ghost of Tsushima and on Iki Island on PS5 will now offer lip sync for Japanese voice over.

We’re also happy to confirm that Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, and the new Iki Island expansion will all take advantage of haptic feedback and adaptive triggers in the Director’s Cut. There will also be enhancements to 3D audio* on PS5, as well as drastically improved load times, 4K resolution options** and framerates targeting 60 FPS.

Transferring your progress

If you already own Ghost of Tsushima on PS4, you’ll be able to transfer your save to PS5 to pick up where you left off. For new players, the new Iki Island content will be available beginning in Act 2 of Ghost of Tsushima, after you’ve made your way to the Toyotama region.

Other updates

Alongside the Director’s Cut, anyone who already owns Ghost of Tsushima will be able to download a patch containing some new updates. Once again, many of these updates are directly thanks to the constant stream of feedback you’ve been providing us since launch, which we’re extremely appreciative of.

All players will receive a patch with some new accessibility options for alternate controller layouts, as well as the option to enable a target lock-on during combat. And for the person who tweets at us all the time asking for an option to hide your quiver during gameplay: yes, we’ll be adding that, too!

Finally, for Ghost of Tsushima: Legends fans, we’ll also be releasing some new updates, including an all-new mode that we’re excited to detail in the weeks to come. All Ghost of Tsushima: Legends*** updates will be available at no additional charge to owners of any version of Ghost of Tsushima on either platform.

Pre-orders and upgrades

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut will launch on August 20 for $69.99 USD on PS5 and $59.99 USD on PS4.

You’ll be able to pre-order digitally at PlayStation Store, or physical versions from various retailers. If you pre-order at participating retailers, you’ll receive a digital mini soundtrack with tracks from the original Ghost of Tsushima as well as two new songs from Iki Island, and a digital art book featuring a selection of art from Ghost of Tsushima as well as 10 new pieces of Iki Island concept art.

Pre-order at PS Store any time before launch and you’ll get access to download the PS4 version of Ghost of Tsushima immediately, so you can start experiencing the main game early and transfer your progress to pick up where you left off when the Director’s Cut launches in August.

  • I am raring to go back to Tsushima and this epic upgrade/expansion is just the excuse I need!

    VERY excited :)

    • Great news and imo Sony/SP handled this perfectly.

Existing owners can purchase the expansion and subsequent additions/upgrades for 20 or $30 depending on system. I feared we would be locked into repurchasing the entire Director’s Cut at full price to receive this content.

For everyone crying because the Director’s Cut is more expensive on PS5. They gave a framerate patch free for PS5, but this wasn’t a true PS5 upgrade with haptics/faster loading etc like it is here.

On top of that, Legends is/continues to be free. The game has no egregious MTX and SP has earned their money here. If u own a PS5 and don’t want to pay $10 extra for PS5 enhancements then buy the PS4 version and play it backwards compatibile. Simple. U have a choice, just stop whining.

Tsushima is a great game with a free online mode that continues to be supported with free content. These guys deserve the support and I’m appalled at some of u ppl.

    • “If you bought Director’s Cut PS4, you’ll be able to upgrade to Director’s Cut PS5 at any time for $9.99 USD”

OUCH! Not a good sign of goodwill for your PlayStation fanbase.

    • @iamtylerdurden1 🤣. Can’t imagine being a manchild who’s okay with this trash. Not dropping 70.00 USD for ”MUH LIP SYNC BRO”. How about you give us ps2 and ps3 backwards compatibility instead of these MIND NUMBLINGLY DULL AAA MOVIE GAMES🤨. I’ll just stick with my xbox. I’m good.😘

    • People like ZanFear complained about the 9.99 USD for the Ps4 to PS5 upgrade.
Guys since the PS5 is 69.99 and the Ps4 is 59.99, if the Ps4 would get a lesser amount than 9.99 for the upgrade, it would then be abused. Think people, think.

    • ^ A precedent was already set this gen with receiving a PS5 version of a game for FREE for games you already bought/upcoming PS4 releases. But as we can see here and other cases, they’re shifting to charging money for the upgrade for the exact same edition of a game. Not a good move, but doesn’t matter to me, I’ll just wait to buy the PS5 version.

  • Wait wait wait did i read that right? I have to PAY for correct lip sync? This is a new low for you people

    • “multilingual” lip sync dont exist.

    • I think it’s just for the expansion on PS5 as well… Unless they updated the whole thing.
It should’ve been in the PS4-version anyway.

And what are you talking about dregojax?… It’s a matter of doing two sets of animations and including that data in the game.

    • ImAPirateSoSueMe

It’s a PS5 specific feature due to what the PS5 can do. They couldn’t do it on PS4 for a reason.

    • It’s a PS5 specific feature.

And how many games do you know of that change the lip syncing if you change the language..?

    • I have a question. I’ve already sold my ps4 original version of the game. If I buy the ps5 directors cut edition and insert the new disc, will it recognize my previous game save record (I’ve beaten the game once) and let me pick up where I left off? Thanks

    • It does NOT matter what system it’s on, it could be on a PS3 or even PS2 if the memory and storage allowed for it.
Why couldn’t they include a separate batch of data for the Japanese lip-sync-animations just like they’d include animations or audio for other things?
It’s NOT a thing the PlayStation 5 does exclusively as a technical device, that’s only what they want to you to think or what they want to treat it as to push people to get a PS5.

They could simple change or include the lip-sync-animations on the PS4 if they wanted to, but they didn’t bother, and now for this “Director’s Cut” they’re MAKING it PS5-exclusive.

Pretty dirty marketing and a middle finger to the PS4-players. – I won’t get a PS5 for probably years, if ever, so I’m screwed out of logical features just because I’m a “peasant” (who also owns a beefy PC, by the way).

      Screw Sony’s practices, really.

    • To iamtylerdurden1 asking what games change lipsync animations along with language… honestly, every game that doesn’t have pre-redered cutscenes and supports voice acting in multiple languages. That means any game that lets you create or edit your character as well. Skyrim, Mass Effect, Cyberpunk 2077.. and many, MANY others.

Most games don’t have animators animate all dialogs by hand, but instead run the dialog sound files into a phoneme recognition algorithm which pulls the correct mouth pose for each sound in real time. That means if you feed other language files into the algorithm, you’ll get new language accurate lipsync for all of your characters at no additional cost.

To correct dregojax : yes, there is such a thing as multilingual lip sync in video games.
It has actually been industry standard practice for a little over a decade, now. You can even try it yourself on Unity with open-source plug-ins and a couple of youtube tutorials.

I can’t know for sure, but Ghost of Tsushima could be using this technology. That would explain why the PS4 won’t be getting it, because the cutscenes are rendered ahead of time as videos, and rendering/storing as many videos as you support languages would simply be unpractical. However, this would not justify the price on PS5, since this would quite literally take no additional work on Sucker Punch’s part to implement.

If anybody knows whether their lipsyncing is pre-animated or procedural, it would be a nice thing to know.

    • No, you’re paying for an *additional* lip sync along with graphical boosts, a new island, a bunch of digital art stuff, etc.

    • This is only one of the new features

  • Beast_of_Yharnam

“We are so thankful for all of our dedicated and supportive fans…now give us $30.”

    • You expect to get a brand-new expansion for free? No one does that.

    • Right? @mercenary09 it’s not about beign free. if I have to buy the ps4 directors cut upgrade for $20 fine. but to upgrade to the ps5? that should be free since the base GOT is free to upgrade to ps5.

    • I agree that if you buy the $20 expansion then you shouldn’t have to pay another $10 just for the PS5 version that only gives slightly better visuals, load times, and some controller features. Everyone else is doing that sort of thing for free.

    • I got the Collector’s Edition for like 200 Dollars, still get no special treatment.

    • Yeah, this is completely stupid. You might be able to circumvent it if you upgrade your ps4 version to the ps5 version and then buy the expansion. (Not sure if there is a ps5 base version of ghost though).

    • Wow, you really are an entitled one. Seeing as legends modes was completely free which was a big addition to the base game which they could easily have charged for but didn’t. Now want the expansion for free.

    • Y’all throwing complaints at SP are funny. It’s Sony who sets these prices lol it’s at Sony that y’all gotta be mad not SP.

    • They are so thankful they gave us free Multiplayer Co-op mode in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.

They also gave us 60FPS at a higher 1800p resolution for free on the PS5. Do note that PS5 isn’t as good as MS with BC since they have changed this every release so P5S BC is basically gen 1 where Microsoft is already at gen 3

For the new PS5 version you pay extra but it includes more than just 4K/60
On the PS5 front, new players will find that the PS5 version will have lip sync for both English and Japanese voice over. Plus, the PS5 version will have haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, 3D audio, drastically improved load times, different 4K resolution options (presumably a performance and visual mode), and targeted 60 fps.

  • I am thrilled with the prospect of hopping back into GoT. Hands down, one of my favorite experiences in quite some time, and easily my GoTY when it released. Looking forward to it SP, and the upcoming Legends modes.

  • I have the PS4 physical copy. Would I be able to upgrade it to ps5 for 30$? Or do I have to buy it again since is not digital ?

    • Yeah I’d like to know if the physical copy of the game is included with this. I originally bought the collectors edition of the game, but its a ps4 disc.

    • If you have a physical PS5, it’s $29.99 since you have a physical copy. If you have a digital PS5, then you’ll need to get the full digital game at $69.99.

    • “You can also upgrade directly (from original Ghost of Tsushima PS4) to Director’s Cut on PS5 for $29.99 USD”

I guess this applies for both the digital & physical versions.

    • Unfortunately, I have the physical PS4 copy, but a Digital only PS5. Guess I’m stuck playing the Director’s Cut on PS4 only, or pay full price for it on PS5.

    • Just insert the PS4 copy on the PS5 and then go to the PS5 store and purchase the 29.99 upgrade. This will convert you to a native PS5 digital upgrade.

    • If I have the PS4 disc version but a digital PS5, can I take the game to a friend house with a PS5 disc version and used my account and my disc game to get the digital for $30?

    • @QSPR I think even after the upgrade you still have to use the disc to launch the game.

  • Already spent $70 on digital deluxe version at launch, and am now being asked to spend another $30 for upgrades and one expansion? Other games are handling these PS4 to PS5 transitions much better.

  • So if you already owned the game from ps4 & you got a ps5 is the upgrade free?

    • No, 20 bucks apparently.

    • yes, 20$ but merged with the dlc to help swallow the pile.

    • no, if you have de OG PS4 version you’ll have to pay 29.99$. That’s harsh

    • Oh yeah sorry, 20 quid for the PS4 upgrade and then another 10 quid for the PS4 upgrade for PS5.

I personally will be spending 0 quid on it lol.

    • How is it harsh to pay $30? It’s better than paying the full $70 for ps5 version lols. Damn you guys are so cheap and entitled.

    • @MonkeySlime808, I totally agree; it’s $30 for all the new features plus the new expansion. It’s a great game also. Seems more than reasonable personally.

    • Can you read? I mean, I don’t want to be a jerk, really, but they put those details IN THE ARTICLE you’re replying to. It’s all right there.

No, this is not a free upgrade – it’s paid DLC. It looks like there are no plans for a PS5 version of the base game, so no upgrade path at all there (free or paid).

You either buy the game outright all over again with the DLC included as the Director’s Cut (for $60 PS4, $70 PS5), or you buy just the DLC (for $20 PS4, $30 PS5) if you own it already – and the PS5 version of the DLC updates the base game as well as the DLC. That’s it.

    • @MonkeySlime808

Okay, time for some schooling. Metro Exodus, got a free upgrade to PS5 last week and came with an arduous substantial full ray tracing update. Oh….. and the game came out 2 and a half years ago. Fully free, no messing around.

Even Square Enix gave us a free PS5 native version of FFVII Remake with an option to buy the brand new content, whenever I want to.

EVEN EA, yes, THAT bloodsucking leech of a publisher EA, gave, for free, a PS5 native version to PS4 owners of that Star Wars game that I can’t think of the name of.

This is the standard that Sony has to be at because THIS is where we are right now when it comes to releasing PS5 native versions of PS4 games.

If you want to blindly defend it, that’s fine, but it’s still wrong. It wasn’t okay when Remedy did it with Control so why is it okay now?

  • So if you got Director’s Cut on PS4, the PS5 version is still a paid upgrade

Are you serious!? You didn’t even do that with Spider-Man Miles Morales on PS4 to PS5

    • Yeah, this sucks bad. But I’m guessing that the DC will cost $60 on PS4 and $70 on PS5, that’s why the upgrade fee is $10

    • There is a free update with some new content. You are paying for the new expansion basically. Why should they give you a whole new island and story for free?

    • @Mercenary09

But DC PS4 and PS5 I presume are basically the same game content wise. This isn’t like going from vanilla GoT on PS4 to Director’s Cut on PS5, or something like going from Persona 5 to Persona 5 Royal where the content is clearly different. You’re paying 10 bucks just to own the same game you already own on a new platform despite the fact that the visual bump will likely be the same as going from GoT PS4 to the PS5 patch, which was free of charge

    • No, they definitely did this with SM:MM. Remember how they compared it to Uncharted: Lost Legacy? Well that game launched at $40, while SM:MM was $50 for PS4 and PS5. They forced you to pay the extra $10 even if you played it on PS4.

    • @phantom_sees

The free PS5 upgrade was essentially just them unlocking the framerate. That’s it. Here, you will at least get some proper PS5 enhancements like haptics/DualSense support, real 3D audio, faster loading, etc.

The beauty of this is, if u feel like those PS5 enhancements aren’t worth it u can just purchase the PS4 version for $10 less and play it on PS5.

I personally feel like Sucker Punch has unquestionably earned our support by delivering an incredibly robust, high quality experience and a free online mode that continues to be supported at no extra cost.

In my opinion, this is a fair deal and I have no issue paying $10 more for the PS5 upgrades, heck, they earned with Legends, but that’s just me. Luckily u can buy the PS4 version even on PS5. So do that if u feel like they don’t deserve the extra $10.

    • ImAPirateSoSueMe

They kinda did, you could’ve paid $20 from the PS4 version to the PS5 Ultimate Edition which gave the PS5 version (with proper enhancements) and the SM2018 GOTY for PS5.

  • Sucker punch never cease to amaze their fans.

  • 70$ what 😐

    • If you don’t own any of it, yes. You get the full original game plus expansion.

    • $70 for the next gen version of the full game plus expansion, plus the enhancements.

If u own the game u can merely pay $20 to receive the new story expansion.

  • How come we have to pay 10$ extra for the PS5 upgrade? Why isn’t it included in the 19.99 that existing owners are already paying to get the Director’s Cut on PS4?

Seems kinda weird when most other PS5 upgrades are free for existing owners with any new DLC being the thing that costs more(which is understandable). Examples: FF7 Remake Intergrade, Metro Exodus, Greedfall, Dead By Daylight etc.

    • FF7 excludes ppl who own the game from PS+.

The Yuffie mission is $20 by itself and I would bet money that this Iki island expansion in GoT is at least twice as much content.

And Square repackaged the game for $70 as well ($90 Deluxe). Yes, u can buy just the story content for $20, but the main package is 70 or $90. Don’t act like every other publisher is a saint.

Sucker Punch also gave you and continues to give you free content with Legends. They gave you a free PS5 improvement with the 60fps mode, but I guess if you want all the bells and whistles included in the PS5 Director’s Cut, like Japanese lip syncing and haptics etc, it’s $10 extra. But luckily if you don’t feel like it’s worth it you can just get the PS4 version of the director’s cut and play that on PS5.

    • What is the PS Plus FFVII thing ANYTHING to do with this Ghost of Tsushima announcement?

They were straight up about it in March that if you don’t own or never bought and supported FFVII Remake before outside of Plus, you ARE NOT getting the PS5 version too.

I bought the Collector’s Edition of GOT and I still get no free lazy PS5 port, its 30 quid for the lazy bare bones PS5 port, not even any raytracing like Spiderman remastered had.

  • AmericanSamurai1

Can’t wait. Do I get a discount because I bought the digital deluxe edition?

  • What a confusing pricing strategy.

    • Yeah, it’s funny that you save a penny by purchasing the PS4 expansion and then upgrading to the PS5 version.

    • If you bought the special edition on PS4, you can upgrade to the special collectors edition on PS5 for $9.99. Seems pretty straight forward to me.

    • @Amnalehu

Imagine if PC games did this.
“You bought this game when your card was a 1070. Oh you just updated to an 3080? That’ll be $10 to unlock more graphics options”

      Hugely against this

  • This is such a bummer. I ALWAYS wait to buy complete editions of AAA games, and thought that since this had gotten a PS5 update, I would be safe to buy this. Thankfully I haven’t played it more than a few hours or so yet, but 70 bucks down the drain again because I want to experience my games as definitively as possible as the developers intended. And waiting a whole year for complete editions isn’t a guarantee anymore like it used to be. What an industry, just a new middle finger every day.

    • And yes, I’m aware that I can just “upgrade” but as an actual fan of the artform, I like owning my games physically. Even if PS game discs are glorified license strips now.

    • Just don’t be toxic

    • So true and we don’t need people like you Sliusarek. You aren’t helping out here at all by condoning this.

Stop calling people things just because you don’t like their opinion on this awful situation.

    • I got the nearly 200-Dollar Collector’s Edition and apparently I have yet to pay more for this game.

Nah, Sony and Sucker Punch Productions; I’ll play the waiting-game for when you release it on PC in about 4 years and it will be on sale at 15 Dollars in 5 years.
See ya in 2026, you’ll see my pennies then!

    • Some people are so privileged that a game not being free (and never promising) is “awful situation”, LOL.
You guys really lost your mind and think video games are the end of the world.

    • LOL, “see you in 2026” he says.

  • Let me understand this….

If you have Ghost of Tsushima for PS4, you have to pay $20 to get the PS4 Director’s Cut version.
If you have the PS4 Director’s Cut version, you have to pay $10 to get the PS5 Director’s Cut version.
If you have Ghost of Tsushima for PS4, you have to pay $30 to get the PS5 Director’s Cut version.
If you do not have Ghost of Tsushima on PS4, you can buy the PS4 Director’s Cut version for $60 and PS5 version for $70.

This is a one year old game from a first party studio!!!!

    • And if it’s a one year old game, you think they owe you things for free?

If this was PS2 gen, you’d have to spend 60$ on Directors Cut.
If this was PS1 gen, you’d be lucky to get the game at all.

    • That’s correct. If you’re a loyal fan who was there since day one you’re the one paying the most.

    • yeah, so?

  • Kinda steep to pay $30 USD for a new island and Japanese lip sync. The new content better be worth it.

  • Man every day yall make me regret buying the PS5 more and more
$70 for this game again? Are you serious? It’s $20 at GameStop as it is. I’m sure Iki island is big but it doesn’t justify the $40-$50 increase, same with Japanese lip sync. Plus the fact you mention “targeting 60 fps” is not good at all since you’re just implying that there’ll be drops when there already isn’t any on the PS4 version
Also $30 upgrade for PS5 owners? Are you serious? This about the same stuff old Xbox would pull before Phil Spencer

    • Also I kinda saw this coming anyways when y’all mentioned games would be a $70 increase. I wouldn’t be surprised when Bloodborne PS5 gets announced with no changes but 60 fps, haptic feedback and 3d audio to justify the $70 price tag

    • Then buy for 20$ and upgrade… toxic gamers be toxic.

    • I kinda wanted the DLC but I can wait it out. And I don’t care for the controller gimmicks and don’t give a flying crap about lip synch. My PS4 version is good enough.

    • I kind of regret ps5 purchase too….

TLOU2 ps5 patch is “Targeting 60fps” as well but it’s a locked 60fps. GoT will probably be the same.

    • ImAPirateSoSueMe

Lmfao people show me which Gamestop has the game for $20..

      Don’t worry, I’ll wait.

I do agree though on the “targeting 60fps”, that part is weird as hell considering the PS4 version on PS5 is flawless 60fps.

    • ImAPirateSoSueMe

I totally meant please* show me. Not people. lmao

    • The reason Xbox isn’t ‘pulling this stuff’ is because they’re attached to Microsoft and can afford to pour endless amounts of cash into losses in the hopes of improving their future position. ‘Old Xbox’ is just the normal world of profit-making business.

Games almost always launch their GOTY editions at full price; that’s not selling customers the game ‘again,’ that’s a new package for new customers who waited. The price to pay ‘again’ is $20 or $30 and comes with an expansion.

  • Jesus you’re charging 10 for the ps5 upgrade? We just got doom eternal ps5 upgrade free, Bethesda is owned by Microsoft.
This is really low coming from Sony.
Sorry, I love ghost of tsushima and supported it at release but I’m not supporting this.

    • Same here, it doesn’t even look to have ray tracing or really anything visually going for it worth paying any money for.

    • How about you put some effort in discerning the differences between those two games’ upgrades. Also we already got a high rez 60fps PS5 patch AND beefed up multiplayer mode for free with Ghost, so get that if you don’t want the DC

    • @mjmedia12 your last point just makes the whole situation worse. They shouldn’t charge you $10 more for dualsense support and fixed lip sync. This whole upgrade system should have been like FF7R where they gave you the base upgrade for free and charged $20 for the island DLC.

    • @xLogash it can get muddied but for me not quite a fair comparison. FF7R didn’t get Dualsense or 3D Audio support and those aren’t small throw-it-in features, though people will value it differently. I will give you that the graphical enhancements for FF7R are a bit more substantial.

    • you can’t even buy just the ps5 upgrade lol… i bought it day 1 @ $60 and now i have to pay $30. it sucks.

    • Yet u also got a free online co op expansion with Legends.

They also gave a free PS5 upgrade already with the 60 fps mode.

Does Doom Eternal add haptics/adaptive triggers, 3D audio, Japanese lip syncing and other features? Or is it just a res/fps/RT patch?

Doom Eternal has a $30 year one pass and about 10 DLC packs. Sucker Punch could’ve cut costumes from the game and sold them as DLC as well. They could’ve charged for Legends.

Ppl are so naive. Sucker Punch has given us an incredible product that offered free ongoing content and no MTX, but ppl start crying over one little thing? They earned it at this point. They could’ve been nickel and diamonds from the beginning and then if they offered the same price for the PS4 and PS5 version of the director’s cut people would be singing their praises. It’s unreal.

    • it’s not just an upgrade, it’s DLC…

  • Haven’t played ghost yet this is definitely a pick up

  • You can keep your Japanese lip sync and controller gimmicks. I’ll stick with my 60fps PS4 version.

  • This is absolutely fantastic. Thank you!!

Now hoping that Death Stranding: Directors Cut will be as heavy! Also please do Bloodborne Directors Cut with 60 FPS, haptic and triggers and more story!!

    • I second this! Funny how no one blinked an eye at paying $70 for a 12 year old Demon’s Souls remake yet paying $10 for DLC and an upgraded version of a game that’s less than a year old is the end of the world. I think some people would complain if it rained gold.

  • YES! I’m so excited to pre order

  • Oh dear, this isn’t going to go down well when even 3rd party developers like 4A games have given us a free upgrade to their even OLDER game, Metro Exodus and even Square Enix with FFVII Remake. So why not simply charge 20 quid for the extra Iki Island expansion instead exactly like what happened with FFVII Remake that went down very well? Oh right, that would make too much sense for the current PlayStation management.

Spiderman just barely got away with it because of the extra ray tracing. This looks to have pretty much nothing visually going for it on PS5. I actually found Ghost of Tsushima a slog to get through. Took me over 3 months to put in 80 hours because it felt too repetitive for most the part. Days Gone was a far more enjoyable experience that I spent 90 hours on to Platinum but did it in 5 weeks because it was so much more engaging. I do not need to double dip.

So here we are yet again Sony i.e. me, a long time fan, sat here and confused asking what the hell are you doing??? Why are you being so arrogant and ignorant to your fans charging for a basic upgrade???

I’m telling you right here and now, I WON’T BE BUYING THIS JUST LIKE WITH RETURNAL which was way, way too expensive for a game by such a small team. And there are many more people that are going to be telling you this over the next 48 hours. You own PSN, check my PSN name, look into the games I buy off you day one, I’m not lying here.

There is a storm brewing and you are causing it all by yourself. And let me guess. This is all Sucker Punch have to show in 12 months since the game came out? And there will be a PC release too no doubt. More time wasting that a studio should be spending on their next game for us.

    • FF VII Remake wasn’t free. Side story was 10-20$, can’t remember.

If you want to support your favorite developers and want to see more good games, you need to pay. Don’t spend money on things you don’t need and this won’t be an issue.

    • The PS4 to PS5 version of FFVII Remake was free, 14 months after the original version launched.

Stop being toxic yourself and spreading lies and misinformation.
Nobody is asking you your opinion on what you think about us getting ripped off here….. which is what is happening whether you want to believe it or not.

I already supported Sucker Punch and got the Collector’s Edition of Ghost of Tsushima, you don’t need to tell me nonsense about what I support.

I support good gaming practices and things I want to see more of. Why do you think I haven’t bought an EA game in over 8 years?

Again, just leave it. And remember, when ever somebody needs to post loads of comments with damage control………… there has been damage caused.

    • Good job on being a free thinker.

    • I swear the people that complain the most are diehard Days Gone fans and will defend the game to death lol. Yeah pretty crappy upgrade price for sure but why bring Returnal into this? I thought it was worth full price and have over 60 hours into it with platinum. I didn’t buy days gone cuz I saw it was so buggy but you’re complaining about Returnal and how repetitive GoT is…

    • Days gone isn’t any better in my opinion.

    • @Sliusarek
the FF7Remake PS5 Upgrade at 4K NATIVE, IS FREE

    • i agree with almost everything except returnal.. no regrets on my $70 spent there. the game is a master piece in my eyes and i have 100+ hours on it.

    • Your comment about Returnal is insane. What does team size matter if the game size has been scaled up to AAA? That was the whole point of Sony funding the game’s development, and now buying the studio outright. They make AAA games now. Their past doesn’t matter.

    • I hope nobody at Sucker Punch cares about reading comments from petty entitled little ignorants like yourself

    • Fair enough about Returnal. It was just waaaay too expensive for such a game to me, exactly the way Destruction All Stars was going to be launching at 80 quid too but failed even as a free Plus game lol.

The point I was making is, like GT Sport, I told Sony well in advance that I won’t be touching it.
So when each one failed to reach any sort of sales targets the were going for, they know exactly why it failed and the reason they failed was they DID NOT LISTEN.

    • Toxic gamers.

    • It’s not just an upgrade. It’s DLC! They already upgraded the game on PS5 FOR FREE! They are adding more FREE upgrades to EVERY version on the game… for FREE! My suggestion is that if you don’t want the DLC, just stick with the version you have and take advantage of all the FREE improvements the have already added to the game as well as the new free improvements coming next month.

  • Well I’m very excited for this I hope the controller features will be amazing for ghost of Tsushima

  • Okay, so if I have the disc version of GoT PS4 and do the $30 upgrade to the PS5 GoT: DC, do I receive the PS5 version digitally as it’s own thing or does it require me to still use the PS4 disc to play it as other PS4 to PS5 upgrades have. My guess is the answer’s no, as those type of upgrades are typically free and this costs money, but I figured I’d ask.

  • If I own a physical PS4 copy of the original game, can I use the upgrade to PS5 Director’s Cut, to get a digital copy?

  • Held out on PS4 version since it was so late in the gen, Glad I get to experience this director’s cut with updated content. Sheesh, these comments, you guys really need to be more responsible with money. It’s additional content, it shouldn’t be FREE. If $30 is too much, wait for it to be cheaper. Ya’ll making PlayStation look cheap and broke lol…It’s not that serious, and I’m pretty sure you can just vote with your wallet instead of screaming on forums like it makes a difference.

    • Wow, didn’t even support the game originally. Yeah, your opinion is extremely valued, thanks.

  • People complaining about having paid 60-70 Dollars for the game already.
Me who has paid nearly 200 Dollars for the Collector’s Edition… -_-

I should be getting this expansion dumped on my account for free, including the Japanese lip-sync on PS4!

    • Japanese lip sync isn’t possible on PS4 they said that

    • You spent $140 on some game trinkets and you think that entitles you to free stuff?

    • I bought that version too, but I got exactly what I paid for , plus the free content and patch they released in October and with the PS5. You’re not entitled to anything more. If you don’t want to buy the expansion then don’t buy it, they have given you multiple choices if you do want it though.

  • I’m very happy to see a new content for Ghost Of Tsushima happening. I can’t wait! Thankfully, Jin is a main protagonist again! <3
Will there be any physical Director's Cut Edition? Second mask for my collection would be just great. Or nice swappable plates with motive from Ghost for my PS5. Or a special controller. ;-)

About pricing, I really see no problem to pay 30 for Iki expansion and PS5 improvement. I thank devs for working on the game I love.

  • Will it be possible to buy the Iki expansion separately?

    • No, the entire point of charging for a port of the same PS4 game stems on this expansion being shoehorned in with it.

    • @andrewsqual WRONG! The Iki expansion is $20. It’s just bundled in with other updates and called the Directors Cut.

The PS4->PS5 ‘port’ as you call it is an additional $10 on top of that.

      Yes it’s confusing!!!

  • Hoping gyro/motion aiming for the ranged weapons made in too. Haptics and adaptive triggers are great, but fine tuning my aim with gyro is also a big gameplay improvement.

  • Lol, there’s people actually defending you here. 15-20 for new content? Fair enough, that’s how VIIremake did it.
But 10 more bucks for a LIP SYNC FIX? You have to be a braindead fanboy to justify it

    • It’s not just lip sync. It’s dualsense support and tempest 3D audio.
Would of been nice to get some ray tracing though

  • Japanese lip-sync as a special PS5-feature?… Why isn’t PS4 getting that? It’s not like there’s a technical limitation.
It’s clearly a feature to draw people to the PS5 more, but in effect it’s also just giving PS4-users the finger.
SPP is even giving in to Sony’s agenda, all the while the original PS4-version should’ve had Japanese lip-sync all throughout in the first place.

And don’t get me wrong; I appreciated that SPP listened to the fans about the Japanese dialogue, I watched the panel that took place years ago and everything. But why didn’t they just get the lip-sync in there as well for the kind of studio they are?… It makes no sense.

  • Doom Eternal(owned by Xbox) next gen upgrade with Raytracing and DualSense was free. FF7 Remake ps5 upgrade was free and Yuffie DLC is only $20. 3rd party studios are treating PlayStation users better than PlayStation themselves. What happened to “For The Players” ?

    • ImAPirateSoSueMe

In Dooms case, that was already promised as a free upgrade even before the Microsoft acquisition so the fact Xbox owns them now has nothing to do with it.

    • Doesn’t make things any better…

  • Please make the trophies work similarly to how it worked for Spider-Man Remastered. Where transferring my completed save file from PS4 unlocked all the trophies I had earned upon loading in PS5. It was nice not having to replatinum the game entirely and just continue into the content I hadn’t done yet, in this case it would be Iki Island and any new Legends content.

  • How does the upgrade to PS5 Director’s Cut work for the PS4 disc version of the game? Will it change the version installed on my PS5 to the Director’s Cut, that will still require the PS4 disc to play? But then what happens if I delete the PS5 Director’s Cut from my system for space-saving purposes, and then put the PS4 disc in to play again? Will it reinstall the original PS4 version and I have to manually download the PS5 upgrade again, or will it know to install the PS5 version?

  • Lets go! I’ve been waiting for some new content for this game for a while now. It’s a bummer you have to pay an extra $10 for the ps5 update though.

    • Dam I have to pay $30 for the PS5 upgrade? Well I gave Activision $270. EA $120 for BF2024. Got all the PS4/5 deluxe editions. Yeah I’m ok with paying $30. I know it’s worth it.

I’ve got the Collector’s Edition on PS4. How will it work if i play my ps4 disc on PS5? If i upgrade will it be digital on PS5? i really don’t like digital games. And i don’t have a lot of data. I was hoping that “Iki Island” was a standalone game with a disc version like Uncharted The Lost Legacy. And I’m saving up for all the big games so i don’t want to buy Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut (Disc) on PS5

    • you only need to upgrade to 30$ for Director cut for ps5 . every upgrade is digital and also have for ps4 and i will but 20$ for Directors cut.

  • I wish that they would release a free upgrade from PS4 to PS5 without the Director’s Cut.

I’m not willing to spend $30 for a new island and dual sense features.

  • Can we earn a separate platinum trophy with the Director’s Cut if we’ve already gotten the platinum on the original PS4 version?

  • Elite_GamerGT85

Man, I platinumed this gem of a game. Have no issue paying for PS4 to PS5 directors cut. Really really just want those figurines to add to my Game room. I will plant this for the expansion and to revisit Legends.

  • So if I already purchased Ghost Of Tsushima digitally on release day, I can preorder the $20 upgrade and that will get me the Director’s Cut for both PS4 and PS5? And if I let the preorder period expire, then the upgrade costs $10 more and will be $30?

I need to know because I have both consoles, and since all the family wants to play, we’d use both concurrently.

    • I think I got it:
Pay $20 to upgrade the original GoT PS4 to Director’s Cut PS4, and from there, it’s $10 more to get Director’s Cut PS5.

    • That’s what I read. A $30 upgrade fee for ppl that want PS5 directors cut

  • That $10 PS5 version upgrade fee tho 😒

    • I am excited for more GoT and I have no issue with paying for the extra content, but I do think it is really ridiculous to be charging $10 to upgrade from the PS4 version to the PS5 version of the game. That should absolutely be free and I think because of that I will probably end up not buying the DLC, at least until there is a price drop.

Sets a very bad precedent in my mind.

  • What if I bought the digital deluxe version? Will there be a cheaper upgrade option? Only seems fair.

    • What about the Collector’s Edition, will there be a free option?… No. – Cause “FU GIMME MONEY!”, says Sony.
Also; “You’re not getting Japanese lip-sync cause you’re a PS4-peasant!” they practically tell us.

    • You bought the same game as everyone else. The extra you paid was for other things than the game.
I have bought several collectors edition of stuff but that doesn’t entitle me to anything down the line.

  • Yeah paying for the PS5 upgrade is kinda skeezy here my dudes.

Charging for the expansion, I get. That makes perfect sense. But when even notoriously stingy Square-Enix is handing out PS5 upgrades then what the hell

    • No only that, even the utter stingebags at EA gave away Star Wars: Whatever It Was Called, for free on PS5 2 weeks back.

If THAT isn’t the best way to describe this situation, I don’t know what is.

  • Most confusing upgrade strategy!!! Who thought that was a good idea!

The number of people here and on other threads who have mentioned paying “only $20” to upgrade to the PS5 version (it’s actually $30 in total) shows both how illogical this and and how poorly you have communicated it.

I’m excited for the expansion, but nickel and diming us on the PS5 upgrade and locking the Japanese lip syncing behind it is a low blow. Way to turn a clear win into a confusing mess!

  • Let’s gooooo

  • That said, i’m excited for this and I look forward to jumping back into this game.

  • Pretty much I have to pay $29.99 USD to get the Director’s Cut on both the PS4 & PS5 if I already own Ghost of Tsushima on PS4.

  • And its an utter shame for you to drag Sucker Punch’s great and amazing name through the dirt with these dirty business tactics Sony. Again, shame on all you suits at the top. Thankfully you “listen” to us though and will be giving us an update on this, yet another, brand damaging blog post………… any…………….. second…………………….. yeah right.

    • They gave us a free Multiplayer Co-op mode in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, they’ll be adding more free content to Legends, adding free pack including extra accessibility features and more importantly if you don’t want to pay more, they gave us a 60 FPS 4K patch on PS5 for the original PS4 version. I don’t understand how the Iki island expansion and extra content/features is a ‘dirty business tactic’?
