  • Excellent

    • Another solid month, but I personally enjoyed May’s lineup better. Wreckfest PS5 was huge for me.

I find it hilarious that people trashed last month’s lineup and yet they love this one. I’m not that into co op or multiplayer, but for those who are, great lineup.

And I know Virtua fighter 5 is some big mythical thing to people. How many articles did I see about virtual fighter 5 in Yakuza? But it’s a pretty nice get in squadrons is a big game. Sony in my opinion is doing a phenomenal job with PlayStation Plus and Xbox is doing a pathetic job with Games with Gold. I know people get their panties all bunched up over Game Pass but at the very least PlayStation Plus kicking the snot out of games with gold needs to at least be factored into the equation.

  • Alright! I’ve been wanting to play Squadrons

    • You’ll probably be disappointed. I got it on launch and it looks terrible, is incredibly woke and isn’t as good as older games like Red Squadron.

    • Sorry, I meant Rogue Leader (the old Gamecube game)

  • Thanks guys! Anothet amazing month!! ^_^

  • It’s an alright selection.

  • I think squadron is a good game

  • Carnivius_Prime

eh. I’d like to try the PS5 game but again still not been able to get the console. Even today the app notified me but everytime I try I get beat either either due to being stuck in queue or website gets overloaded or whatever.
Not too fussed about the PS4 games here. Not into Star Wars and never cared for VF. But hope other folk enjoy. :)

    • Unless I’m wrong I’m pretty sure someone can invite you to play the PS5 game with them thanks to the free friend’s pass. That should allow you to download the PS4 version trial to play.

    • the real game is trying to purchase the console

  • Great lineup! I love the trend of debuting new games on PS+

  • Shame that a game explicitly advertising cross-play between PS4 and PS5 is only free for the PS5 – I’d like to play this with my kids, but they only have PS4s.

Still a decent-looking lineup. Looking forward to Squadrons on a PS5! Nearly pulled the trigger on that one a half-dozen times recently.

    • Operation Tango has a friends pass so I’m pretty sure you can invite them to play even on PS4. They don’t have to own the game. It’s like It Takes Two

    • @Mercenary09 – thanks for the heads-up. If that’s true, that makes this a lot more interesting. They ought to make that clearer, somehow/somewhere!

This is the first I’d heard of the game, so all I have to go on is the trailer. Seems Sony could promote the friends pass more explicitly to point out the value of including it in Plus, unless they’re afraid of sabotaging sales to PS4 owners.

    • Handling PR for the game & that feature has been in our last 2-3 press releases, social, and all over the Clever Plays site. Alas, I can’t control what the press prints. :( Also, this is live on PS Plus day/date with the game’s official launch (June 1st).

    • @ebeth_0 – Well, I’m not sure if I’m just out of the loop, but since the Plus announcement is the first I heard of this game, if it wasn’t in the Plus announcement I didn’t know it.

I’m criticizing Sony here, primarily, for promoting a PS4+PS5 game, making only the PS5 version free on Plus, and not ALSO explaining that the door is still open for PS4 players to join their PS5-owning friend. Maybe that’s too much to expect in a Plus announcement, but it seems they could have fit it in if they’d cared to.

    • Hey great to see Elizabeth here. Yep Sony has had 1 or 2 blog posts about the game on here before that mentioned it. I know they keep the PS Plus posts short but they really should’ve at least mentioned that in the post and maybe provided a link to the game’s site to learn more. I’m sure they’ll have another post this upcoming week about it though.

  • oppositesleeper

After almost 10 years in silence i really expected more out of Virtua Fighter than a remake that looks much worse than any other mainline ps4 fighter. Squadrons is cool for a lot of people, ive never been into flight sims since starfox days lol. The more modern they get the less i enjoy them. The ps5 game seems like it could have potential for a random indie title i wouldnt have given a second look at if not for ps+ but they make it sound like its mandatory multiplayer co-op so that could kill it instantly.

    • you really have no idea. it uses the yakuza engine and is more then a up rez. i can tell you are nothing but a upset troll.

  • Another fantastic month. Love getting 2 brand-new games. Had a feeling Operation Tango would be on PS Plus since they announced the date a couple months ago.

  • Ok. This month is GOOD!

  • What about character customization? Costumes? Items? Will Quest mode be included? I mean, it’s called ULTIMATE version for a reason, right?

    • That’s what I wondered too. Is it a remake of the original 5 with all the original stuff, or the PSN only version of 5 which basically only had online.

    • it’s a new version but called 5, it uses the yakuza engine.

  • I like this month. Virtua Fighter 5 was my cousin first XB360 game. We played hours on that a decade or more ago.

Star Wars Squadron, ever since AngryJoe was rocking it on VR. Been interested in it.

Operation Tango, PS5 only. Would have liked the PS4 version as well.

  • This is a fantastic lineup.

  • Much better than last month. Really excited to boot up Virtua Fighter 5 on my PS5. I havent played that in ages. Thrilled by Operation Tango. Surprised we’re seeing Star Wars squadron so soon.

    • I completely disagree and while I acknowledge this is a solid lineup, for me personally, it’s lackluster. Not really a co-op or multiplayer guy…

Wreckfest PS5 alone beats this month for me personally. I think part of the problem for this past month is that a lot of people honestly don’t know about Wreckfest.

  • I’ll give the single player part of the Star Wars game a try but the multiplayer and the other games aren’t to my taste.

  • For anyone wondering you can invite anyone on PS4 to play Operation Tango with you for free. The Friend’s Pass allows that. Says it in the FAQ on their site.

    • would be a lot cooler if you could team up with the person sitting next to you, rather than some random person online

    • Yes, but the nature of the game is that you can’t see your partner’s screen and are only connected by voice.

    • “Only connected by voice” is a great idea for all the players who have no ability to communicate by voice.

So it’s a game that I have no way of ever playing unless they add some kind of “accessibility” option.

      Great “inclusivity” there. 😂

    • just stop

  • Tempting to replace my PS3 installation of VF5US withPS4’s, but damn it’s a pain to reinstall PS3 add-ons relying on the old Download List, especially as I’ve had no success redownloading from the PS3’s Store pages, and the new Store website doesn’t allow us to use the Download Queue for legacy systems.

  • Virtua Fighter 5 is getting put on both Now and Plus hahaha wow that’s bad! Most people who have Now have Plus, so yet again we are paying for the same game TWICE!! you really are trying to kill PS Now.

    • At least PlayStation Plus gets good games. Games with Gold gives you nothing. Essentially you’re paying for no games there.

    • Cringe

    • Tylerdurden, first off, nice nickname. Very up to date reference. Second, you might not like the games on Xbox, but you get four over there. not nothing. Stop being ignorant.

  • waiting for next month 😒😒

  • Not good this month but thanks by the way.

  • Worst month for the service so far in 2021

  • Cool, not so fond of the EA game though, whatever that is, yuk.

  • Would yous be able to add lego games or totally reliable delivery service genres like those please

    • Huh?

Are you in some way trying to infer that games with gold is better because they got a 15-year-old Lego game for 360? All I can do is laugh.

  • I’m all in for trying to promote hidden gems through ps plus, but Virtua Fighter shouldn’t be on the lineup. Unfortunately, being included in this promotion isn’t going to revive this game.

The reason it died was because it heavily targeted towards the hardcore/esports fighting game fans by making a deep, but overcomplicated fighting system that didn’t appeal to the more casual fans and even completing the tutorial felt like a huge chore.

For that reason, combined with the fact that the character designs felt incredibly generic, led to the downfall of this game. I mean, why would anyone play Virtua Fighter over Tekken, which pretty much offers the exact same things, but the characters have much more personality and the combat system isn’t that complicated to pick up? (even if the movelists for each character is huge).

    • That’s kind of how all fighting games have gone since the PS3 though. They ignore the biggest segment of their userbase and entirely focus on the small minority of players that play online, and the even fewer who care about boring junk like “Evo”. Trophies alone should tell developers that barely anyone even touches online or “competitive” modes in any fighting game ever, but that’s all they focus on.

Mostly agree about Tekken, but Tekken 7 was the worst Tekken ever made. It has almost zero content (2 hour story mode that ignores the entire cast and then a rubbish arcade mode), useless AI that doesn’t even understand basic mechanics, rubbish balance, long load times, dated graphics, disgusting cross overs. Other than 1 new character everyone new person is a generic included just because they’re from a particular country that has no real story purpose being there, and that’s before getting into all the lies about season pass content (“100s of costumes” (got 12), “brand new game mode” (got an old one), “classic characters will be free”, etc, etc, etc). Basically all there is to do in Tekken 7 is wait around for hours for a match with terrible netcode. When it takes up so much harddrive space because of classic ending movies (that you can watch on Youtube) it’s also kind of hard to leave installed compared to SC6 or KoF or GG etc. It’s the Tekken game that took me from buying every Tekken game at launch to probably not picking them up until they’re 70% off. Which is a shame.

    • I don’t have PS+, but I would gladly give Virtua Fighter a try. I picked up Tekken 7 when it was about 90% off and I mostly enjoyed the story mode (which isn’t of high quality), but I feel it’s the worst fighting game I have on my PS4, although I like watching matches, some people are very skilled at it (it’s beyond me how they master that huge movelist).

Fighting games have traditionally been local one-on-one and Street Fighter series is the best example of this. It has a simple fighting system which is easy to “grow into” instead of artificially mastering. I still fondly remember playing Street Fighter II Turbo on Super Nintendo with my friends.

    • over complicated? vf is the marvel of “complicated” fighters.

  • I I was not expecting a new virtua Fighter 5 game

  • Already have Squadrons so not my month but hey you can’t win them all :P and they have been pretty decent recently so I won’t complain and pretty glad to see everyone else get to Squads it up so that’s good.

  • Not bad at all. Will give Squadrons a try and maybe Virtua Fighter. Operation Tango looked like something I might enjoy until I read communication is key.

  • This is definitely a good month but also shows that Sony needs to combine ps now and ea play with ps plus. Having squadrons and virtua fighter on ea play and ps now starts to really devalue these extra subscriptions. Please no stupid comments of well not everyone has these services, we know that, i am just saying offering games for free from other subscriptions devalues those subscriptions.

    • Last month u was complain about bf5 stranded deep and wreckfast, now u dont!! So stop complain and let others people enjoy, while u dont!
And ps plus u paying for multiplayer!!
And ps now u have 800 games for 60$ but every of that game on ps now cost 20$ or more!! Stop complain you are not only one who paying ps plus :)

    • I don’t subscribe to PS Plus because of multiplayer. If they took it away from Plus and charged for multiplayer separately, it wouldn’t bother me.

I subscribe to PS Plus for the free games and the saved game backups.

It’s ironic that you advise someone to stop complaining and let others enjoy what they like, but assume everyone subscribes to Plus for the reasons YOU do. Just as different people have different game preferences, we can have different reasons for subscribing, too. Think about it.

    • Me too, i dont even care about multiplayer not even 0.1% im paying ps plus for 36 games per year, to be honest with u ps plus is mp services honestly
Paying ps plus for single player story playing mp only if forcing u for trophies!!! Im with u but u cant play a lot ps plus mp games without it! So this service ps plus is for MULTIPLAYER and i wont co plain at all, every game is welcome to join in mine collection
Even farming simulator is good game while it have so many trophy
Where are trophies, there is always fun.

    • I see MP wasting of a time nothing else, mp is not welcome to my life PAL!!! MP IS WELCOME only if its forcing for TROPHIES OTHERWISE, ITS NOT!!

  • VF5: US on release date LET’S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I’m so hyped, this is a great month for a fighting game fan. I’m not a fan of Star Wars at all but I’ll give Operation Tango a chance. VF5:US alone does it for me this month, a revival of a classic game. Tekken is still the king of 3D fighters but I play almost all fighting games and will definitely be playing VF5. Thank you Sony!😁😁

  • SONY bad month.

  • Not for me. Not happy with June PS+ deal.

  • Excellent! Operation Tango looks cool (I love co-op) and I almost bought Squadrons just recently.

    Another solid month!

  • Nothing to see here, move along…

  • It’s another good month, as Sony continues it’s nice selection of both Ps4 and Ps5 games for psn subscribers. It’s a nice trend for Sony to provide new games and Operation: Tango for the ps5 is a nice choice. These new games pay for the subscription alone. If we are dating ourselves and still gaming, we’ve all tried Virtua Fighter 5 as a kid so let’s see if this game brings back any memories including looking for improvements, such as graphics, frame rates, modern feel with less clunkiness controls, etc., as a next gen console game usually does. I’ve played Star Wars: Squadrons and it’sa good but booty great game. but I’m pleased with this selection. Thanks for keeping up with good selections each month Sony.

  • Trash month!

  • Terrible. PS5 game is unplayable for anyone that doesn’t play online. One game is a VR game. The third, VF, might be OK.

  • Good month for me.

  • The total cost of these games is less than a month of PS plus probably … and if you have EA Play subscription (and given that there are only two subscriptions, lots of people do) you have Squadrons for free anyways and Virtua Fighter 5 is 15 years old. Not to be a jerk, but I really have no idea how people find this to be “Fantastic lineup”…

    • Virtua Fighter 5 is a remaster, so look at the price of any remastered game and that will give you a better idea of what it should cost.

    • Less than a month of PS Plus? Are you ignorant? VF5 is a remaster that has been rebuilt using the Yakuza engine. Star Wars Squadrons itself is at least a $20 game. Operation Tango is probably $15-$20 too.

  • I think it’s another solid selection.

I used to hate the monthly ps+ selections but now I think they’ve got things pretty spot on. Nice one Sony!

If there’s one exception, it’s still the risk in buying on-sale items for ps4. I nearly, very nearly, bought squadrons on sale last week! It’s not the first time I’ve come close, either. It’s not great practice to keep doing this!

Other than that – keep it up!

  • Excellent month for me. Since I am big fan of fighting games genre, I’m exciting to play Virtua fighter 5 on my PS4. Star Wars: Squadrons is a plus and add to my library. Along with Operation Tango.

  • oceandestroyer56

Can we share play Operation Tango and play from there or do each person need to have a PS5 to play it together

    • Operation:Tango is fully crossplay compatible and has Friend Pass, meaning you can play with a friend as long as ONE of you owns the game, regardless of the system! :) However, there is NO local co-op as the game requires you to not see the other player’s screen.

  • Wow, a game i wanted and haven’t gotten around to buying, and a game i wanted in a vague i-had-no-idea-that-could-actually-be-a-thing way. Very nice!

  • Put better games next month for PS4

  • This is a slap in the face to people who have both services (Plus and Now), that’s what we get for liking Sony and getting two subs? Shouldn’t we “loyal” users get something special or at least not the same game for both services??!!
You talk about it here as it’s a good thing when it’s actually isn’t!!!

Don’t wanna criticize the game early before playing it but adding a day 1 fighting game to Now isn’t that special as it already has many fighting games to begin with (Tekken, Injustice, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and many others…)!!!

I hope we get more than 3 games for Now June’s lineup and VF didn’t already fill the spot for one of the games, also hope 1 or 2 of those games are better to compensate this lazy act of overlapping the games and spitting in the face of people with both subs!!!

Sorry I know you want us to not be jerks but we gotta let our voices heard and that this is not acceptable (if you even read these comments anyway)…

    • Uh considering they already announced that Sonic Mania, Sonic Forces, and Team Sonic Racing are all coming to PS Now in June I’d say you’re getting more than just 3 games. Witcher 3 is also apparently joining the service

    • @Mercenary09

Umm, thanks captain obvious but you’re a little too late, coming here after 3 days replying to me about the extra games announced… You know, when I typed this there was still no news about those games that they’ll be added… So…… Yeah…. SMH!

  • Needs to be an additional free game or something for people on ps4. As I can’t get a ps5 in my country due to shortages. The back order is more then a year.

    • You’re still getting 2 games which is all we were getting prior to the launch of the PS5 so why should you get another game? Add the PS5 game to your account via the web store or app and you’ll own it when you get a PS5

    • Remember though 2 games was the historic lowest point ever on PS+. For pretty much the entire length of the service you’ve gotten between 4 and 6 games total. So asking for more than 3 isn’t really asking much.

Also prior to the PS5 basically all games have been cross play if they had the option. So it wasn’t that long ago you’d get 5 or 6 PS4 titles in a single month.

As they increased the price just before cutting 2/3rds of the content, they could always just reduce it again…

  • Oh come on last month it was like wow nice games and this month was like ok

  • Uhh why can’t all ps plus content be for ps4 and ps5 stupid behind company we all need to get the 3 game that comes with money u money greedily freaks huhhh trash state of play stuff why just give us themes and profile pic why not give us credit or sum can’t wait to switch to Xbox

  • Jim Ryan said that PlayStation Plus would be the competition to GamePass but I disagree… At least GamePass adds more than 3 games so there is a higher chance you will like a least one game. Playstation should consider adding more games a month to ps+ or psnow even if it means adding a higher tier to the service. Also I think a lot of gamers would prefer more games than the video pass that is being tested in Poland.

  • What abut giving us promised 100GB cloud, instead of 1000 files cloud? I have 91GB free cloud space and can’t upload anything.
