Players will be able to continue to purchase games on PS3 and PS Vita.
Recently, we notified players that PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita devices was planned to end this summer.
Upon further reflection, however, it’s clear that we made the wrong decision here. So today I’m happy to say that we will be keeping the PlayStation Store operational for PS3 and PS Vita devices. PSP commerce functionality will retire on July 2, 2021 as planned.
When we initially came to the decision to end purchasing support for PS3 and PS Vita, it was born out of a number of factors, including commerce support challenges for older devices and the ability for us to focus more of our resources on newer devices where a majority of our gamers are playing on. We see now that many of you are incredibly passionate about being able to continue purchasing classic games on PS3 and PS Vita for the foreseeable future, so I’m glad we were able to find a solution to continue operations.
I’m glad that we can keep this piece of our history alive for gamers to enjoy, while we continue to create cutting-edge new game worlds for PS4, PS5, and the next generation of VR.

I am very glad that you have decided to keep the store open! i love my ps3! i do have and play my ps4, but i have both plugged in for the kids to play on and we enjoy them both!!!
Will there be a ‘closing’ sale on select digital games for psp before its closing?
Well, I’m not feeling like criticizing the hows or whys, I’m just happy with the result and that the PS3 store will remain open. Not every company will admit they misjudged something and reverse a decision, so I do commend that in this case they have. I JUST broke down and got a PS4 recently (I’m one of those who has to spend carefully), but my love affair with the PS3 is still pretty solid, and I know plenty of gamers who feel this way. So thank you. :)

Thank you so very much! I was pretty annoyed. If you look at my purchase history you can see i pretty much only buy games on sale, except for a few years ago like gta 5 and a few other games around their launch date. What I’m saying is, please bring back an occasional sale for ps3 store games(including classics) and psvita/psp games. If you look at my purchase history last games I bought on the ps3 device were during a sale you did in I believe 2019 and I bought Dino crisis 1 and 2, and 1 or 2 legacy of kanes games a few others during a ps1 anniversary sale, as well as a few Disney games during a Disney sale. So please bring back sales on these devices if even say only 2 to 4 times a year.
I plan on buying a full priced ps one game to show appreciation, perhaps front mission 3 since I’ve been playing ogre let us cling together for psp and this is similar genre gameplay. I will also buy maybe a 9 99 ps3 game. But If you do a sale showing your are still listening to us customers, I will spend around 40 to 50 bucks picking up some classic ps1 and some other ps3 games I’d like plus probably another 40 or 50 on psp and vita games. Even if you only do 2 sales a year people will jump on them and spend because they don’t know when the next sale will be.
I like others commenting in here. Still enjoy playing and beating some of my old ps3, ps1, psp, and vita games I never finished and either got through playstation plus or through sales. I can actually still appreciate classic graphics even from ps one and psp.
Also to people commenting on backwards compatability please buy 1 or 2 of the ps2 games available for ps4 to show them you actually want them. I own almost all of the available ones except for the gta trilogy and like3 others. I think the graphics are actually pretty nice with the upscaling of the resolution, but anything else they add would be icing. I even think final fantasy 7 classic on ps4 looks nice which I own.
Which brings me to one last point, the more backwards compatability you do bring to ps4/ps5 with classic games that have enhanced graphics and trophies is an extra strength for ps now. I wasn’t happy with os now before but you’ve improved it a lot. The streaming is much better for ps3 titles and the download list for ps4(which has ps2 titels:) ) is nice. There are a few ps2 titles in there I don’t own and am playing like wild arms 3, and if I’m paying a year subscription to playstatoon now and actually spending some of my time playing ps2 games kn a ps4, you should take notice.
Last final statement and request for you to acknowledge, I love ps3 games in 3d. I know ps4 supports 3d, so using this more with ps4 games or ps3 backwards compatability would be awesome. But right now 3d tv is I guess niche. But I wish Sony would one day commit to pushing 3d again the way it did with ps3, and sell some 4k and or 8k tvs with 3d and bring 3d back because I think it would look amazing in 4k on a bright led screen( which would help cut through the tint on the 3d glasses from the active shutter) I hope Sony is working on something, but we all know if a competitor releases something and it takes off Sony will have an answer for it.

Thank you for listening and keeping stores open, the playstatikn legacy and history is something we want to keep alive and to be able to buy from the people that make and distribute the games and to keep having access to the games we buy. Great decision, and keep up the good work, you made this fan proud!!!
o and like I said once before, a legacy ps store app for the vita and ps3 would be awesome and to see notifications for sales alerts, but j guess thats a stretch. I feel it would help those sales. Many people will continue to own your legacy systems and get them repaired or purchased refurbished systems, so Sony could make money for years off the vita and ps3, if they actually have sales, and a companion app for the phone for these legacy systems would help notify and push sales, then when ps4 becomes a legacy system you can move it over the the legacy app with the other legacy systems. You can also eventually release the inevitable ps2 classic mini and ps3 classic mini, and why not have them connect to a store where purchasing can be made. This was a decision I didn’t understand why you did with the ps one classic, why didn’t you give it access to a digital store for ps1 classics for more money to be made of ps 1 games being sold.
If you ever do release a classic ps2 or ps3, I don’t think people would mind if you enhanced the graphics even beyond upscaling but maybe thats a bit much. Anyways I look forward to them when you release them. But please don’t make some of the games pal if possible, I hear it makes them look squashed because of different res and or they only run in 50 fps max. Anyways thanks, and sorry for the rant.
Thank you for reversing this decision, PS3 is still incredible and the vast offering of games on the store has driven me to buy one in 2021. I’m having such a good time with it and the games I have downloaded off the store. Please always allow us to access this content just like you do with your movies and music libraries from the past. Thank you again Sony this decision will also drive me to buy stock in the company.
Would you care to comment SCEE/SCEA, is it true you told Devs to stop making vita games on the vita store in July and not August?

Can I still download Metal Gear Solid 1 (Playstation 1 version) from the store? Is it best to purchase as PSP Console or PS Vita Console to do this?
Sony doesn’t support older consoles. Psp, vita, ps3, ps4 doesn’t exist anymore for Sony. They have high crazy games prices for older devices. They don’t have ps3,ps4, vita battery for sell. Even back in 2015.
For future it’s better to go to Xbox…
For An PS old time user to see that nobody at Sony cared about their products…they shutdown desktop PC browser stores…Sony is an greedy company.

There’s still honest and play original players on ps3 and vita.
If one day want stop ps3 and vita service, please make an eternal discounts for all games and keep still purchase. Maybe for ps4, ps5,… too if one day that gonna happen.
If you want make the sony classics development department from ps1, psp, and ps2 all games for the next gen like ps vita, ps3, ps4, or ps5. Maybe oneday ps vita and ps3 all games become classics games too.
