Players will be able to continue to purchase games on PS3 and PS Vita.
Recently, we notified players that PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita devices was planned to end this summer.
Upon further reflection, however, it’s clear that we made the wrong decision here. So today I’m happy to say that we will be keeping the PlayStation Store operational for PS3 and PS Vita devices. PSP commerce functionality will retire on July 2, 2021 as planned.
When we initially came to the decision to end purchasing support for PS3 and PS Vita, it was born out of a number of factors, including commerce support challenges for older devices and the ability for us to focus more of our resources on newer devices where a majority of our gamers are playing on. We see now that many of you are incredibly passionate about being able to continue purchasing classic games on PS3 and PS Vita for the foreseeable future, so I’m glad we were able to find a solution to continue operations.
I’m glad that we can keep this piece of our history alive for gamers to enjoy, while we continue to create cutting-edge new game worlds for PS4, PS5, and the next generation of VR.
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us – we’re always listening and appreciate the support from our PlayStation community.
Thank you for bringing up PS3 and Vita store online.
The CMOS battery issues for 3 generations(PS3,PS4 and PS5) needs to be addressed in order to regain consumer trust in the long run.
While I’m exceedingly grateful that the PS3 and Vita’s stores will remain active, I have to ask. Please don’t let PS Videos die. I have a stack of anime episodes and movies that I don’t want to lose. It’s bad enough that movies that came out in and after 2016/17 can’t be added to the download list to be viewed offline on PS3 and Vita, but I don’t want to lose access to all of the movies that I’ve been collecting. There is still a massive demand for PS Video and I rarely use streaming services, since PS Now isn’t offered in Australia.
Please understand that people still love PS Videos and will continue to use the service. There are enough sales offered alongside gaming sales where I still find amazing films and the Big In Japan sales always have phenomenal deals on anime movies and shows. It’s disappointing that a bunch movies offered in other regions and countries cannot be purchased unless you are in that country, but I can deal with that, just so long as PS Videos can continue. Please reconsider the choice to close the store.
Thank you VERY Much!
Please! Please give us another game sale on ps3! Please!
Any chance there will be a PS3/PSVita/PSP games sale in the near future. Cause it is great your not removing the stores, but since many of the games are still full retail price (60,00 euro), i can’t see myself buying them. before this announcement, i was considering spending a lot of money to make sure i would have all of the games if the stores would close. But a sale, would make me buy a lot of stuff. I had a PS3 & PSvita after the sales had stopped, and just kinda had to stare at all those games since they never dropped in prices.
I was thinking the same thing. You guys scared me a bit, throw out a sale and I’ll buy it up lol!
