Abandoned, a cinematic survival sim, hits PS5 later this year

Plan every move, weigh up every decision as you try and escape the sprawling wilderness.

Hello everyone! I’m Hasan Kahraman from Blue Box Game Studios based in The Netherlands. The team and I are working on our new title, coming exclusively to PS5 this year and I can’t wait to show off some gameplay footage from the game in action. However, since the game is at an early development stage, I wanted to announce the game today and show off a little announcement teaser we made.

Abandoned is a cinematic, first-person horror survival shooter set in a highly detailed open world environment and favours a realistic approach to survival.

Abandoned, a cinematic survival sim, hits PS5 later this year

The story

The story is centered around Jason Longfield, who wakes up in a strange forest. Abandoned and not remembering how he got there, Jason soon finds out that he was kidnapped and brought there for a dark purpose. Fighting for his survival, his main goal is escape.

Realistic character interaction

We want to deliver a uniquely personal gameplay experience, one that feels realistic. Every event has an influence on your character. If Jason is out of breath after sprinting (or is afraid), his firing accuracy will suffer. Unlike action shooter titles, firing weapons in Abandoned will be realistically slow. You will need to be tactical in order to survive.

The development

Our studio is focused on crafting a cinematic style, first-person story. This is no fast-paced shooter in which you just run, aim and shoot. Abandoned requires you to hide and plan every shot before pulling the trigger. We want you to be nervous come each and every enemy encounter. To be aware that a wrong move can be the deciding factor between surviving a combat scenario or not.

Immersion through the DualSense wireless controller and 3D audio

We wanted to emphasise realism through user immersion. This would not be possible without the DualSense wireless controller. Players will feel each and every interaction during gameplay – such as being struck by a bullet. Pulling the trigger on a loaded or unloaded gun will feel different. Equally 3D audio will help shape your decisions and tactics, using the accurate positioning of gunshots out in the wilds to help decide your next move.

The power of PS5

Our team is still unravelling the power of PS5 but we’ve made amazing progress so far. The console allows us to process high quality motion capture, all running at 60 FPS and rendered at a native 4K resolution. We#re making sure the environmental quality is as close to the real thing as possible. In all, the result is realistic graphics, smooth character animations and minimal loading screens.

Announcement teaser and release window

While we don’t want to go through the full gameplay details just yet – a full gameplay video will be available soon! We couldn’t wait to give a glimpse of what to expect, so we hope you enjoy this sneak preview.

Abandoned will be available exclusively on PS5 Q4 2021.

  • I hope this will have a coop expeirence. Co-Op horror games are arguably the most fun.

    • Good Lord please no. We have enough Co-Op horror. We need some truly isolating and blood pumping single player.

    • Near photo realistic graphics at 4K 60. I thought it was real life at first. Color me intrigued with this surprise PS5 exclusive. This console is spoiling us with exclusives in year one. Oddworld is spectacular.

    • Oddworld isn’t an exclusive…

  • This looks great, can’t wait to see more!

  • Hope they add PS VR support

  • Announce a PSVR2 version, please!

  • Something is going on here, I’m just going to say this..

    Hi Hideo 🙃

    • No, full credit goes to this developer.

    • Kojima is rumored to go with Microsoft too, meanwhile Sony is struggling with the concept of exclusives, bringing them to pc or running out of timed exclusivity…

    • You know, from most accounts Hideo Kojima didn’t really work on “PT” (he was busy with MGSV).

Plus it wasn’t even the first first person horror, there was those on the PS1. So probably shouldn’t give him any credit. 😁

  • Oh this absolutely reeks of Kojima

  • Sounds interesting. Eager to see more.

  • It feels like there is more to this…

  • Wow! Prepare to soil your pants, everyone.

  • The history looks Nice… I hope that the Gameplay Will bem Nice too

  • Wow this my type of game hopefully I will be able to buy a PS5 before it comes out

  • Please add motion/gyro aiming (as an option)! It really helps with immersion and control, and it’s part of the work done for an eventual, hypothetical, who-knows VR version.

  • i_i__batman__i_l

The game is in early development. Releases Q4 2021. Wait…

  • Wow that looks like near photo realistic and is running at native 4k and 60fps damn…. I’m impressed.

  • Ugh, this looks cool I guess but SIE needs to start talking more about their plans. Having the news cycle be constantly dominated by Microsoft is just not good for my health :/

    • MSFT talkin’ about everything except new games, which is the reason why people buys consoles and people had been bashing them since 2013

    • Yeah, well, Microsoft also BOUGHT BETHESDA to have games that will likely never see the light of day on PlayStation.

    • Remember that time Bethesda released a good, non buggy game that wasn’t really, really repetitive?

      No?

      Me neither.

  • this games sounds great cant wait for gameplay

  • Damn…. This looks good…

  • sir_murder_facee

    Ps5 VR adapter please???

  • What’s with these early development reveals? Was the same with Forspoken, might as well be tech demos.

    • Q4 this year is early development reveal?

    • No, I mean the style of trailer or reveal. Should’ve specified they LOOK like early development, or almost just a tech demo.
Forspoken also just had the character dashing in an empty world. Just comes off a bit incoherent without much care for presentation imo. Maybe due to the pandemic?

  • I love what you’re doing here, huge props for vision, execution, amazing art direction and writing. However I would please urge you to rethink your direction of voice acting — the actor seems great but her delivery is so overwrought and unrealistic, it makes it difficult to get into the story and action. There’s no feature film where this voice usage would work … it therefore needs to be directed better. TLOU is a great example of naturalistic voice direction and acting — please set the bar there.

    • lmao im sure they can afford to “set the bar there”

    • hahah I hear you man… but I dunno, if you can’t make your voice acting not super cringe then I don’t know what the studio is doing. it’s like the cheapest part to make better

  • Looks great can’t wait to play oh wait I don’t have a ps5

  • Dangisuckatgamin

No one else noticed the frame drops at the end during the very small still of gameplay?
    It made me cringe.

  • Very interesting , the choice of weapon especially stands out, 1911. Looks mostly stock here. Curious what God’s town will be like but very silent so far.

  • i can’t wait for play this game!!

  • I think Kojima is behind this project. About mr. Kahraman is no data in open sources and no mentions before. Blue box games could stand for B.B from Death Stranding. Initials are same H.K. Abandoned could be new Silent Hill.

    • B.B could be B.B Hood.

      H.K. is obviously Hsien Ko.

It’s clearly a first person Darkstalkers 4 where you play as a severely underarmed and older B.B. Hood who is now a guy.

  • I don’t know where else to leave this feedback but would it be possible to have one last big hurrah sale for the PS3 and Vita since the stores are closing down? It’s the end of an era.

  • There’s nothing mysterious here other than that they would feature this on the blog. Looks really rough and not promising; probably only here because its being developed for PS5 and there’s nothing else to talk about right now

  • What is a PS5?

  • A what?
